It's fine in a pinch. That is, if you can stand waiting in the absolute worst design for a check out line that thankfully no one other store makes you suffer through. Call it the line of distraction, as it's filled with useless trinkets, magazines and candy. Expect to wait unreasonable amounts of time as the cashier desks are under staffed, and when the mediocre-at-best manager finally notices, he lazily offers the people who just got to the back of the line to check out with him instead of those who suffered more than 15 minutes to get to the front. Definitely the best computer store in the Twin Cities. They have just about everything you could possibly need, a repair center in shop and the lowest prices and best selection I have found anywhere. Also every time I have had problems with a product I purchased there they were great about returning for store credit at the very least. The only downsides is that they could have a larger computer selection and $500 for a 3 year warranty can seem a little steep but at least their not like Best Buy where they have to actually ship your computer out of state leaving you without a computer for a couple weeks. read more

There are tons of places to get computer equipment and computer software these days. They are really hit and miss it seems with both customer service and product availability. Micro Center in St. Louis Park, MN seems to be able to strike a nice balance between the two. They have a huge and wide selection of computer equipment and software, including refurbished computer equipment, an Apple and Mac area, a gaming department, and much more. The customer service is really hit or miss on many occasions. When you can get someone to help you, they are quite helpful and knowledgeable. However, a lot of the time, it is really hard to hunt one of the workers down. So if you need any help, enter Micro Center at your own risk. i didnt spend much time and here and i have low low tech aptitude but my time there was well spent and the store was cheap with a great selection and i just had the feeling that they have everything you would need for a computer and that it could be the cheapest ever. the guy that helped me was a no bs guy who didnt demean me for not knowing the phrase "computer stand," and allowed, without laughing, "the thingy you put your computer on so it doesnt got all hot." they had a great selection of them- wayyy better than office depot earlier in the day, and they were lightweight and cheap. the rest of the store had tech gadgets ididnt recognize but it looked pretty sweet. usually i get tense and anxious in computer stores with an urgent need to leave immediately. not at all here. i do think the name is a little cocky though- maybe it would lose a half a point for that. but then re-gain a half a point cause it is right next door to the fabulous burlington coat factory. read more

Update after dropping laptop off for repair under extended warranty. Our laptop screen was full of lines, which had occurred occasionally before but went away when the computer was rebooted. We could tell that it was letting us log on, but restarting wouldn't fix it anymore. We also had 2 keys that had come off the keyboard. A tech from Micro Center emailed us, "My recommendation is to send out to our Depot for repair, which is $276. It is looking like this is a motherboard issue. As an external monitor will not display." They said the repair would not be covered, as we must have caused accidental damage to the motherboard. We argued this point, but to no avail. We chose not to have Micro Center repair our laptop. We picked it up, and found that they were very defensive about their diagnosis. At the counter, they claimed they had found water damage and cat hair in the laptop. (This had never been mentioned in our discussions, and we don't have a cat). We brought the laptop to ChipHeads computer repair. They thought it sounded like a screen problem, not a motherboard problem. They hooked it up to an external monitor and it worked. When told about the supposed water damage and cat hair, they opened it up and looked inside. The tech said he could see dust, but no sign of water damage (or hair!). In the end ChipHeads replaced the screen and were able to re-attach 1 of the keys, all for $168.00. It worked just fine! read more

Probably the worst customer service experience I've had in any type of retail store. Period. I came in knowing exactly what I wanted. I needed the cheapest, crappiest system I could get my hands on for a throwaway, low requirement purpose. I was going to use it in a kitchen just to display a basic spreadsheet where I could adjust quantities and have the amount of ingredients update. They WOULD NOT let me purchase anything under $300. They would sit at their computer and pull up more expensive options telling me that what I wanted wouldn't handle what I needed. A 386 running Windows 3.1 would handle what I needed for crying out loud. They kept giving me incorrect information to try to convince me to purchase a more expensive system. I don't know if they were ignorant or flat out lying. I was looking at a Chromebook for about $150 and they told me that there was no way to load Microsoft Excel on it. I wasn't sure if that was true, so I asked if there was any way to install any kind of spreadsheet software on it. They answered "No". Completely false. Not only are there a number of third-party Chrome OS apps that manage spreadsheets, but Microsoft Office Suite is now supported in its entirety. There was also an EXTREMELY low end Acer running Windows 7 for around $200 that I inquired about. The employee simply would not let me buy it. He kept telling me things like "Oh that machine will only last 9 months because the CPU will always run at 100% capacity" and "The software will update and then it won't run anymore on this machine". Give me a break. I'll load a legacy version of Linux if I have to. I didn't need any significant kind of processing power. I just needed an overblown calculator that wouldn't break the bank in case it got damaged in the very uncomputer-friendly environment I would be using it in. I eventually just had to walk away. The staff would not let me purchase what I wanted. I will never be shopping at this store again, which is sad because I like to buy as locally as I can. I will just have to order online from other sources from now on which is usually more convenient and cheaper anyway. If anyone from this store reads this, the staff involved was working the laptop kiosk on March 13, 2016 at approximately 2:00 PM and should either be retrained or let go. If they were following company policy, the biggest reason I started shopping at Microcenter was they weren't nearly as pushy as Best Buy in the past and wouldn't try to force me into purchases that I knew I didn't need. If they change that attitude company wide, they have lost the only reason I can think of to recommend that someone shop there. TLDR: I knew what I needed. I am very experienced having worked in the IT field for over a dozen years. They would not let me purchase what I wanted and kept trying to get me to buy a more expensive option. I had to walk away without making a purchase even though they had what I wanted in stock. Will never shop here again. read more

Sent it back again,returned me a refurbished unit that fell apart taking it out of box.They promise new in the box replacement. 4th unit never arrived. 5th unit is a refurbished unit that does not work,I take it too micro center.They say they can't do nothing cause I do not have original computer.WTF now it is Feb 2018.At this point I'm done and file a small claim in court. 5/24/18 went too court.Judge tells them too settle this so she does not have too.They would not even take a judges advice.Next day get courts decision in my favor! You can even order it online and go pick it up..."18 minute pickup". The main problem is that you'll spend 30 minutes in line waiting to pay for whatever it is you want to buy. I purchase everything computer or electronics-related at MC. Whether it's a relatively inexpensive but durable small laptop for me to drag around all day every day, or a basic level desktop for an elderly relative, a giant TV, or some sort of weird accessory, they have it. The people that work there are nerdy in a good way and know their stuff. They don't talk down to me or sell me stuff I don't want, and are pleasant in their demeanor. They seem to genuinely enjoy their job of helping people find what they need, which is a treat in today's environment. My only issue is the crowd and the long line today. I know they're as efficient as they can possibly be, but the line today was crazy. There were plenty of employees (thank you!) but only so many cash registers. Maybe I should just stop coming on Saturdays and that would fix it. I'm sure that's half of the issue - a Saturday afternoon is likely to be the busiest time. And the other half of the issue is idiot shoppers standing in the middle of the aisles like they're the only people on the planet. Really, people? This is how you behave? I had to say "excuse me" about 20 times to make my way through the store, because the other shopper dorks just stood there like they were in their own living room. So I'm not going to let my rush-hour choice of shopping time affect MC's rating, because it's not fair. They were working as fast as they possibly could with every register operating, and it was rush hour. AS for the customer that wanted to hold the merchandise before s/he paid for it, I really like the fact that they put it up front while you wait in line to pay. I'm sick of looking like a shoplifter just because I'm in a store, so it's fine with me if I don't have to carry it around, and then they don't have to watch me like a hawk. Plus, I don't want to lug it around, anyway. Shoplifting is a huge deal, people. If theft happens, we pay more for our stuff. It's that simple. Worst customer service...ever. This is my second attempt at this review as my first became too lengthy due to the number of issues during my visit. While I am not a "techie" but came into the store knowing what I needed. When asking for assistance, I was sent back and forth to different areas of the store only to be ignored and left still seeking what I came in for. I was also given an incorrect price quote and given wrong store hours so when I went to pick up my computer, the store was closed. While I was able to enter the store, went I attempted to pay I was told my credit card was declined- even though there were sufficient funds in my account. Last trip to this place. Walked in and wandered trying to find help of any kind for 15 minutes. Guy gave me a cable swearing it was going to successfully link my old projector with my new surface pro 4. asked him if he could demo it so I could be sure. sent me to the tech door, saying, "Just walk in and they will help you". Walked in and a mean, fat lady didn't even acknowledge my presence for 5 minutes. Then she grumpily says, "Did you sign in on the computer?" Over the past few years, I've purchased quite a few items from Micro Center. They have a huge selection of every type of item, which is quite surprising because their locations are actually kind of small. The store is jam packed with good deals. One thing I really like about them is that they have lots of employees roaming about looking for someone to help. So, it's easy to find what you are looking for, and maybe a few additional items that you didn't know you were looking for. Hands down, this is a much better place to shop for electronics than Best Buy, Circuit City, Wal-Mart, or Target. read more

This past Saturday, there were 28 people in line with 3 check outs open. I have a hard time understanding why they don't handle this better. I would always drive by this location on my way to 394, and wonder what was Micro-Center, "The Computer Department Store" . Based on its sign I envisioned a cheesy place that rips unknowing people off, a store that sells over-priced E-Machines or maybe something like Rent-A-Center. I don't remember what brought me there, but I wish I had gone sooner. There's a smell, new electronics? Anti-Static packaging? Whatever it is, it immediately brought back memories of the old Comp-USA in Bloomington, which for me is a very good thing. If you have ever wanted PC related stuff, but find Best Buy far too expensive and limited, you need to go to Micro-Center. If you have ever wanted odd electronics, or parts, or cables, and are put off by Radio Shack's re-vamp to cell phones and R/C Cars, you need to go to Micro-Center. If you have ever said, "I wish Newegg.com had a retail store" Guess what, there is, it's called Micro-Center. The prices there are usually around Newegg's, sometimes cheaper with sales and rebates, even including the tax. The best part, you can pick it up, look at it, and take it home that second. No waiting for shipping. Imagine buying a computer case, and being able to inspect it for dents before you take it home. But woe to anyone who needs an employee to grab something, I once waited 30 minutes to get processor that was in a locked cabinet. Due to small floor space a number of items are pulled by an employee, and there's no paging system, no real system in general, it's just first person to grab an employee gets service first. It's by far the worst thing about the store, they offer an option to buy stuff online and then have it waiting for you at the service desk, but I think that takes away from the unique retail experience Micro-Center has. Also as others have said, the small floor space leads to a kind of hodge-podge system of shelving and displays. I think it adds to the atmosphere, but there's no way my wife would ever go there by herself. Finally I will say that I once spoke to a manger on an issue and the service was great. I headed there to purchase a brand new Xbox 360, one of the white ones that had been discontinued and being sold at a discount. The site said they had 2 in stock, but when I had an employee pull one I was informed that they could not find either of them. After speaking to a manger he offered a me two options, a refurb at half price, or one of the new black ones at $50 off. I know such a thing would have never happened at Best Buy, which is why I still choose Micro-Center when I need anything computer related at a retail store. read more

I think of trips to MicroCenter as necessary evils. Yeah, they've got a lot of stuff. But I have been in there several times and with one exception, I was ignored by every sales person I saw (I see this behavior at Best Buy, too -- hello guys, there are middle-aged women consumers out here too!), couldn't find what I was looking for, and encountered obvious BS instead of an honest "I don't know" when I asked a question. I had a small mechanical problem and stopped in to find an assortment of springs. The old man at the front door told me i should buy a new keyboard rather than repairing mine. Thanks a lot. I said to him, "Why would I throw a perfectly good piece of equipment in a landfill, when a 10 cent spring is all I need?" He grudgingly directed me to the wrong department. i finally found the department where the parts actually were, and was told there, again, that I could buy a new keyboard very cheap. the guy was flabbergasted at the notion of fixing something. I understand that they want to upsell at every opportunity, but this was just stupid. Don't get me wrong, I like the store for their selection. They have just about anything you need. I would not recommend Micro Center. I've gone there for years but would never go again. Their insurance doesn't cover software and I got conflicting answers from Service and Sales about coverage. I bought $500 Dell Computer only 1 1/2 years and had to pay &300 more for a new battery and cord. Now they wanted me to pay $100 for software installation. I love that Micro Center has several locations around the country. When I moved from out of state, I was incredibly pleased to find another branch of my favorite computer store in the St. Louis Park. Like other reviewers have said, the store is well-stocked (I took my computer-nerd boyfriend in with me the first time I went; he found the prices to be reasonable and the selection second only to the internet.) The Apple department is even better stocked than my hometown Micro Center, and there are several aisles of accessories (Seriously, check out the aisle of laptop cases and bags.) My only gripe is the lack of variety in camera straps, but then again, this is primarily a computer store. Expect to find accessories and hardware at various price points (For example, their selection of 10-key pads ranges from $8 to roughly $50.) The checkout line is more efficient than the one at my hometown MC, but could stand to be even more efficient. I've patronized Micro Center for years, though I've only bought a computer there once--a 9 year old MacBook that's still truckin' (including writing this review). Anyway, my 8 year old iMac died recently and I spotted what I assumed was last year's model for $850. I reserved one online and just ran out there, 35 minute drive. I go to the pickup window and they bring out this generic brown box. It's a refurb!? But nowhere in the online sell page does it indicate such. It gave me the impression that it was new. Very annoying. It's probably a decent deal for a decent machine, but I was mad because I'd been misled. Guess I'll just have to keep looking for that new iMac. I'll still shop at MC, but with a little more skepticism. read more

I have been here a few times to pick up a few parts that i needed for various products, and overall the experiences are always the same. Products: Decent products that are mostly priced properly, but there i always have a hard time finding products that has been released for a while(ex, Video cards-I could not find any GTX 900 series GPUs once the GTX10 series was being released.) Customer service: Very spotty. Sometimes you can find an employee. Even more rare is an employee who is free to talk. There have been times when i was unable to find a single employee(busy or not) for a full 7 minutes while looking for one. I have no experience with their service desk or PC building services. Check-outs: A smart design for the check out system, but a few times there was only one person on check-outs when they needed more(spent 20+ minutes waiting in line). read more

Here was my Micro Center experience: 1/16/2015 - Stopped into the store, intending to purchase a refurbished desktop - Sale person told me there were only a total of (3) refurbished units available in the entire store (the website shows 51), and that I would be better off buying a new machine; he also wandered around reading various product cards off to me, as though he had never seen them before; I left 1/17/2015 I attempted to call Micro Center sales today. Spent 2+ minutes in automated voice hell, was placed in a phone queue for another 2 minutes, then the phone rang off the hook for another 2 minutes, then the call hung up on me. Great store for affordable electronics. If I know what I want, I usually buy it online and pick it up for quicker transaction. If I didn't, then it I'm on my own at that store even if I have questions. Salespeople are either busy with customers or busy chatting with other employees. Google has been more than helpful to me when I'm there. The employees also have these stickers that they have with them whenever they sell an item to let the store know who helped them when the cashier rings it up. Most of the time, an employee will just put their sticker on an item beforehand. Seen plenty of employee stickers on items that's sitting on the shelves. Bottom line, know what you want and educate yourself before going there and it will be a little better. read more

I would rate Micro Center five stars. I shop often at Micro Center and have purchased multiple computers and televisions from the St Louis Park location along with a large assortment of other items, keyboards, mice, speakers, camera, hard drives, and assorted electronics for hobby work. Their prices are very competitive even against large online locations and I have always received good service. I have also had to return items from time to time and have never had any issue returning items for either a refund or exchange. I have only had to use a warranty one time and the problem was taken care of quickly. The only real downside is if you go on the weekend expect the potential of a very busy store where you'll likely have to wait to get help and the check out line can be quite long. On thier website you can order items ahead of time and use the quick checkout, I have seen people use that line but haven't done so myself so can't speak to how well it works. However, if you are going to Micro Center and you know you'll have questions on a product I would recommend going later in the day on the weekend or during a weekday where you'll like be able to get help right away. read more

The one thing you can be sure of at microcenter is that the lines will be crazy long. Also, the workers will have all the attitude of an apple "genius" with none of the swagger. I only come here when I need to, and what I'm buying today I will end up returning, because they won't price match a 125 difference with a specific online retailer. Enter at your own risk. Went to micro center this morning to get a video card. Not sure if that was my problem. The guy in the hardware department assured me that the card was my problem and walked me past the $400 cards to a card that was on sale for $30, after asking me what I used my computer for. After choosing that I wanted a way to extend my WiFi farther, and another person showed me a way to do it over my electrical lines. I bought that item for under $30 and checked out. Both items were a snap to install and tested out perfect. The help at the store were very helpful, and I will be back for a monster big tv soon. Looked like great prices on them too. read more

I purchased a laptop and LG tv two and a half years ago. Also purchased the 3 year warranty with it. My laptop wouldn't reload one day so I called them for help. He told me it would cost me $39 for them to help me. WHAT!!! My contract was only good for the software, yea right. So I took it to another dealer, they told me the Windows 10 was not loaded correctly, which by the way, micro center put in, yeah right. So they fixed it for me, I purchased another tv and didn't have to wait ten days to get my laptop back. Totally unacceptable, I think you would of rather had the money for the tv instead of $39 to look at my laptop. Total losers and will never return. read more
