I would compare this place to a Best Buy, but WAY BETTER. Their staff is friendly, and per my knowledge the workers aren't sales people, they are actual Tech people. So they aren't going to upsell you. I went in a week ago on a recommendation from my work's IT department. My wireless internet wasn't reaching consistently to where my office was in the house. I went in with my information thinking I knew what I had to get and I'd be able to get in and out real quick. I know I don't know much about technology, so I made sure to ask for help, and the Rep was very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. She understood what I was needed, even though I may not have been asking it correctly. She knew what my budget was and respected it. She also noted that if what I purchased didn't work, there was another option, but at more of an increased cost(still within my budget). I did end up returning the original extender I bought and purchased the upgrade. Again, still within my budget. After trying that one out, it worked better just didn't work completely. So I ended up returning it a few days later. There was a 30 day return on both items I purchased, and each Cashier was kind enough to inform me prior to me asking. I feel like that is great customer service. Making sure the customer knows policy verse expecting them too. The line seems very long each time I have went, but fear not, it does move quickly. Overall, while it's in SLP and a bit of a drive for me, this place is where I will be going if I ever have tech-issues or needs. Definitely better then Best Buy IMHO. read more

I work for a small nonprofit. On Friday 9/13/24 my board chair and I visited Microcenter to purchase 6 laptops and 1 desktop computer for our technology upgrade. After picking out the 6 laptops the sales clerk said that weren't sure they wanted to sell us this much of their inventory. When asked why - she really didn't have a suitable answer. After getting approval from her manager to sell us the laptops we picked out an All n One HP desktop to complete our order. During check out one of the managers came over and saw our order totally over 8K. Upon seeing this he called another manager who said that they will not take our credit card for this payment and that they would prefer cash. I thought they were playing because of the pure absurdity of the request. But when we attempted to pay with a check they denied our order. I next opened our bank account app. so they could see we had over 100k in our checking account and asked if we could use our company debit card. Once again we were denied, at this time the manager said, "It's only 4:00pm the banks are still open. We would feel more comfortable if you went to the bank and got us cash for this order." At that time the realization that the 2 White managers were not going to sell the 2 Black customers the technology we had spent 3 hours picking our for our nonprofit. I requested another manager and was denied this request and told they have the right to refuse to sell their products to who they see fit. As we had the money, which we could produce and pay for our purchase a number of ways we still we were denied. At that time it became apparent that this store and there management were not interested in our business. This awareness message is for our other culturally specific nonprofits and the any BIPOC customers who may be considering doing business with this racist company. Please don't, take your money to Best Buy where the prices are cheaper and they do not allow their management to deny sells based on their internal biases. Rich. Well after waiting fir someone to come over to show me which one was compatible the associate said we don't have any. I love Micro Center! I mess around enough with electronics that it's pretty common for me to need/want something from here. They have SO MUCH STUFF; just about anything you can think of related to computing can be found here. PCs, PC peripherals, and anything you'd need to build your own PC. They have Apple stuff too (iMacs, Macbooks, etc.). Laptops, 2-in-1s, tablets, even a few mobile phones. Their monitor showroom is so comprehensive that they're like, what the heck, we'll sell big-screen TVs too. Cables! Adapters! Interfaces! Extensions! Things that are combinations of some or all of those things! So many combinations! They actually have staff circulating to help you find stuff like that; it's clear that they get some kind of compensation for that because they mark the things you buy if they helped you find them. I've had at least a couple of visits where I really didn't have the exact answer to my problem until one of those staffers sleuthed it out for me and put their little sticker on my purchase. So I clearly like this place a lot, and yet I didn't max out the stars. See, I live in St Paul, so this isn't convenient for me. Once upon a time there were places called "Radio Shack" and "Comp USA" where I could get all this same stuff. And so now it seems like the only reason I like Micro Center so much is that it's the only place left with all these things. It's not a particularly shiny-clean store, and maybe they'd keep it up a little better if they had more competition. But I'm very grateful this place exists, and I'm glad it's crawling with employees that want to help solve their customers' problems. They also have a repairs and services section, and an online presence so you can just order in advance and pick it up there. And cables. So very many cables. NOTE: This is not a place to shop for software. The days of brick-and-mortar stores lined with shelves full of boxes of software are a pleasant but vintage memory. We call this spot "Geeks R Us." /giggles Seriously, these folks 'get' us. My husband and I are nerds, but old school. Like VGA old school. When it was time to finally upgrade our gaming rigs (I swear, if I died in game, it was lag!) we were assisted by Joe Wilson, aka the best cat fan and game buddy bar none! He set us up with two PCs, a wireless keyboard (yes, my husband spilled Coke Zero near it that same evening; I will never learn!), a new trackball mouse (I'm a button jammer), speakers for the new PCs, a new printer... Yep, we had a long shopping list and Joe made us feel like he was our personal shopper. He was super fast, very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. We were happy to spend our money here. And so it goes... my ancient monitor did not like the fancy new graphics card. My husband was up and running using an HDMI cable, but I lacked that option. I wasn't thrilled at the thought of buying a new monitor, but realized that even buggywhips become outdated. Back I went to Micro Center, this time getting assistance from Chris Gilde. I explained the situation and he handled it with pro speed and efficiency. He explained that the DVI option was a good middle ground (digital v. analog) for my monitor and even helped me find the cable long enough to accommodate my sit-stand desk. Any time a tech solution works elegantly AND costs less than $20? SCORE! I'm happy shopper AGAIN! Aside, for those of you that notice such things: Both associates had cool glasses. My experience is bittersweet. This location has a lot to offer. Product is great and well organized. I've been here multiple times and my experience has been disappointing. Overall the staff practice prejudice/racist standards. On multiple occasions I've experienced being blatantly ignored, watching my white counterparts being happily welcomed. I will say there have been two associates that have been proactive in their service and I gladly gave them my business (I don't have time to allow my pride to get in the way of what I came to accomplish) This review is for anyone that questioned their experience and to shine light on experiences I've had here. Last example of my point of this review. Standing in a long line, as I approach the point to wait for an available register, a white gentleman working the register came available but decided to pace back and forth, not doing anything but pacing, as soon as another register became available, I proceeded to checkout there, making it one step beyond his register, he then calls for the next person behind me which happen to be a white male to be helped. If this were the only example I had, I'd reflect to myself but I have multiple, 8x the stories. I appreciate the approach of the MicroCenter in providing some free advice on questions on computers. Recently I had a problem with a desktop and it was resolved at a reasonable price. More recently I had a suspicious bit of software on my laptop and brought it in and was able to have Jose Ortiz look at it and he figured out what the problems was and solved it almost instantly. I remember his name from my previouse work on my desktop, and he texted me as the repair and diagnosis was going on so I knew when to come in...all very assuring to those of us who have little idea of how to deal with something that comes up on our computers. My pc stopped booting Windows 11 and was locked in an update loop... completely unusuable. Took to. I to enter repair desk, and was asked to pay a $40.00 diagnostic fee. Two days later was told it was ready for pickup. Connor had found the software problem, resolved it by doing a restore followed by an update and all was perfect. Total charge was only the 40 bucks. I bought a Lenovo Think Pad at MicroCenter some 15 years ago. It is still running great!! I stopped in last week to look at Lenovo Pad, which is like an I pad. Price was great! I am going to use it like a Kindle. Michael, an older customer service person that helped me, was very efficient and helpful. It took him less than a minute to find both the Lenovo Pad and a protective cover. MicroCenter is the store my tech repair guy always recommends to his customers and it's because the place is so well run. read more

I have gone into Micro Center on two different occasions based on recommendations from two different people. Both times I needed service on a laptop. Both times they said "oh we can't do that". This is in spite of the fact that my laptop is manufactured by one of the mini vendors they say they are authorized to service. They appear to only want to run diagnostics and replace parts. I went back to the last person who recommended them and told them they needed to stop recommending Micro Center since they don't do the things that this individual thought they would do. read more

My macbook pro was a hot mess when I brought it in. It had a cracked screen, a battery that needed replacing, (couldn't do that in the middle of the semester!) and a keyboard that had definite wear. I put in an order for a replacement screen, and they also checked to see if the battery was covered- which it was. My computer looks NEW. I spent less than half on my repairs than it would have been cost for a new one. They replaced the cruddy looking keys on my keyboard, and I suspect it's cleaned as well. This is above and beyond. Everyone I interacted with in person and over the phone was also pleasant and knowledgeable. : ) Thanks Microcenter! As a computer parts fanatic I can say I'm properly biased but this place saves you for all parts related needs. Frankly many of the cpu, got, and internal bits compare directly with online prices. There is a classic micro center experience- knowledgeable slightly pushy staff (not over bearing), grocery store-style aisles, and plenty of fluorescent lighting. Payed them almost a thousand dollars to do a water cooling loop. Along the entire process I messaged the service number to see how far along they are, I never got any word back, and I know it's not because I had the wrong number because they where more than willing to ask me questions on that same number. And when I came in the store to ask someone in person, all I got was the guy at the counter complaining about how understaffed they are. A month and 9 days later, I couldn't have been more disappointed with the end result. While aesthetics aren't everything, this objectively just looks wrong; random bends that serve no practical purpose, and the choices with fittings are very clearly attempts to compensate for a messed up measurement. And while not shown, the cable management isn't good either, every cable was just tied into a mass of wires. And to top it off, the day after I came to have them put in a single m.2 drive, after looking at it the guy at the counter said that since they would have to drain it they would have to charge me for it. We went in tonight to pick up some items for a computer set up (monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers, etc). All of the staff were very friendly and helpful, as they have been with every one of my visits. One employee tonight, Joe C, was particularly helpful. He was very knowledgeable in the products and honest in his suggestions, he was polite and friendly, and helped us stay within our budget. It really made for a wonderful experience! The best is at the end we learned he was a new employee, still in his training week! (We were hoping he would get our commission for helping us so much ). The check out line was long, but it was within the last hour of closing and it generally moved quite quickly - there were a lot of employees running check outs making it speedier than I thought. I remember the same thing around the holiday season this past year, seems like a long line but always moves pretty quick. The rating is for the disks and peripherals that I buy here. I wouldn't buy a board or anything like that, based on my past experience. If you're looking for speakers, keyboards, and stuff like that, this is a good source for it. Don't waste your time at Worst Buy. We once needed a crossover cable. I happened to be my a BB and ran in to see what they had. They wanted $25 for this simple cable. I decided that I wasn't going to waste $20 on this cable. A few days later, made it over to MC and found a crossover cable for $6. They even had the same brand and type as BB, and that one was about $15. I don't need gold-covered connectors and such, so the $6 cable was going to be fine (and it was). I get ignored in this store until I'm at the checkout, so I'm glad that I never need help finding what I need. It's interesting to have these guys walk right past without saying a word and ask a person near you if they need help. I won't go into why I believe this to be the case. Anyway, I end up in the store a couple times a year and they usually have what I need. Otherwise, I just order it online. read more

I bought a highly recommend Ender 5 plus, recommended over the one I was looking at. I was having issues so I went micro center today to see if I could get help with it. Big mistake as I was ignored, insulted, belittled, and written off by not only sales staff, but by the front end manager. What I got was told that I should have bought a better printer, creality is crap, the person that could help you is to busy making money, anything with bl touch should be avoided, you can bring it back but take it apart first our time is too valuable to waste on that, not surprised it's crap from china, and my favorite was " Well you fucking bought it, should have choose better ". I have to admit that when *I* shop here, it's always fine. Maybe the lines get a little long, but it's a computer store, and that's kind of the nature of the beast. However... My wife and daughter recently went to shop for a notebook for my college-bound kid. The treatment they described sounded completely foreign to me. They both said that the staff completely ignored them and when they finally cornered someone to help them, he spoke to them as if they were idiots (one is a mechanical engineer and the other is headed to the U this fall to study microbiology [so proud!]. NOT idiots.) I decided to investigate. I'm a scientist and this called for an experiment. My hypothesis: The employees at Micro Center treat everyone the same and my ladies were overreacting because they went there on a busy Saturday afternoon when not many employees were available to help them. I convinced my younger sister to let me watch her shop during a not-very-busy time, mid morning on a Tuesday. We were in the store for 20 minutes. I was approached by 5 different employees offering to help me and I think one was a manager of some sort. My sister: zero. Not a single person working there even acknowledged her. She made a show of looking like she needed help with a keyboard and two different guys looked down the aisle, saw she needed help, and walked a different direction. I was stunned. How can this be?? Half the population is women and they have income to spend! If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I would have thought my girls were exaggerating just a bit. They absolutely were not. I see other reviews here about poor service and I notice that a lot of them are written by women. This is unacceptable! Micro Center! Join the 21st century! read more

Terrible customer support. I purchased a PowerSpec laptop that is only sold by MicroCenter. The power adapter is not working, so the laptop can not be used. I've been trying to purchase a replacement. It is listed as sold out and you can't order one. The only phone number is to the national center. They say a manager would need to help me, but they won't give me a phone number to a manager. Two people have said they'd send a message to the manager of my local store and the manager of a store in CA that has the only one available. Neither have called me. I'm willing to pay for the item and shipping but no one will help. The compound useless with out a power adapter and is needed for online learning. This is no way to treat paying customers. read more

Micro Center is one of our favorite spots. Well, it's actually my bf's favorite spot. We go there almost every other weekend to check out sales, special, computer parts, games, motherboard, fatherboard, or whatever boards for computers. They have a lot of computer-related items, flat screen tvs, apple department, laptops, computer accessories, game department, lots of softwares, and clearance items. Their prices can be both lower or higher comparing with other electronic stores and online, so this place is not final destination for everything. You still need to check around and compare prices if you want to do any major purchases. Ive only made a couple of small purchases. I mostly just tag along for a ride. My bf did purchase a couple of big purchases, and unlike other reviewers, we've never had any problems on anything that we bought. The best part of the store is the sales staff. They certainly know what they are talking about, and they are incredibly helpful. They are never pushy, and they are always happy to give us information and talk to us about whatever we ask, whether or not we we end up buying things. Two Christmas ago, my bf wanted to buy a new gps for his dad. When we were at Micro Center, even though the place was so crowded, the staff was still so helpful, and even went out of his way to print out the detail of a couple of GPSs that my bf asked. Last Fall, when my bf wanted to buy a new laptop, he went to Micro Center so many times to check the laptops. The staffs were so nice and again one of the staffs in the laptop department even went out of his way to check things online for my bf and they did the geeky nerdy tech talk for like half an hour. Just recently, my bf wanted to build a dvr or something like that. This place does not have a Genius Bar! My 4 year-old MacBook Air was having some heartburn starting up after I wiped it clean. I was directed to MicroCenter by the Apple web site for a Genius Bar appointment. I showed up on time and waited in line. When my turn came up the tech took one look at my laptop and said "This will have to go to the Apple techs in the back. It will take at least 3-5 days." He literally did not lay a finger on it or even offer advice on how to update the startup. Absolutely worthless. I suggest that you not go to MicroCenter for advice/service on an Apple product. read more

My experiences at Micro Center have run the gamut from outstanding to miserable. In recent years the latter has been the norm and thus I seldom shop this store any longer. Generally speaking the inventory of tech goodness here is good but prices can be hit and miss. Now that CompUSA has left the stage Micro Center is the sole big box computer retailer (let's face it, Best Buy stinks in this department). Staff at this retailer is not well-versed in the products they sell, especially on the Mac side. While helping friends and family make tech purchases I've been given incorrect information and specs for several items. Unfortunately this has been experienced on repeat visits. In earlier years this never happened but recently it's the norm. They have a wonderful selection of books and periodicals that's unmatched in the Twin Cities. This retailer does mass mailings advertising giveaways or insanely inexpensive buys on certain items. Unfortunately they don't tell you that they stock very low numbers of such 'deals' to get you into the store only to discover they sold out of the $1 widgets ten minutes after the store opened. Again on the Mac side you're better served by going to the Apple Store or First Tech in Uptown (spendy but good). read more

Saint Louis Park Microcenter! Been going for many years. Love it, especially the Apple Department. I buy all my Macs there, I appreciate the personal touch over the crowds at the Apple Store. And at how many stores will the manager come out and personally THANK you for buying a computer? Good for drives, tools, cables, adapters, media, the list goes on and on. I am generally recognized and cordially greeted by the long term staff. There really is nothing in the Twin Cities to replace it. I once had Apple lose my $100 rebate, the manager, the same one who thanked me for my laptop purchase, came out and PAID me the money on the spot. You won't see that at Best Buy! If you are not a technical person you might be a bit overwhelmed at first, but you will always get help if you ASK for it.
