The manager tonight refused to price match a home version of office365 that was sold on Amazon. When I asked him if he could show me where the price match policy was in the store he just looked at me told me that office 365 is the only software item he cannot manually override. My son purchased an Acer Predator from Microcenter on 6/7/2017 and asked for the best warranty - I was with him and he was given the 2 year accidental damage protection plan. The laptop proved too heavy to take to college and he wanted something lighter. The salesman had told us we could bring it back if it wasn't the right fit for him within a few weeks and he did. My son purchased an Apple MacBook Pro and asked for the same coverage. They sold him a 3 yr protection plan which Broke down to 3 years of priority care and 3 yr appl macbk/air care plan. Since he asked for the same, he felt it was the same. There was no reason to question the salesman. It turned out he bought one plan, but there was another one that was a little bit more $$ that he didn't offer him which would've covered everything. The MacBook got a drink spilled on it and when he went to the store to swap it out, they kept it for a week and then finally decided it would not be covered. I went today to pick it up and talked to 3 different people - Eric Grierson, Knowledge manager (who understood why I was mad, but said the conversation was going in circles and there was nothing he could do), John Leisure (Apple Sales Consultant) and Thomas Oatts (Retail Sales Supervisor) and no one stood behind what happened to my son, but kept saying that their salesperson (who is no longer with the company) would never have done that. We have been a frequent customer of Micro Center since 2013 and have a list of receipts, we normally have a lot of confidence in the company but now I am worried that other customers don't realize what their warranties cover either and that a lot of other people will be in the same circumstance as us. Out $1500 with them asking for an additional $600 from my college student to fix what they did wrong. The records that I have and the records that Micro Center have are similar in detail. However, the reason I filed the complaint is because of the warranty. When the original purchase was returned, my son requested the SAME warranty. After visiting the store, I was told that the SAME warranty was available, but WAS NOT sold to my son. Why would the salesperson make that decision for my son?? Based on the salespersons decision for my son on what warranty he needed, the computer is not covered. This continues to be my complaint. Why would I pay an additional $600 when it was the stores error and not ours. My son was 18 at the time of purchase and I don't know what the salesperson was thinking or if he felt my son could not afford more based on his age. This is what I am worried for - not only for my son - but for every customer that walks in the store. Each customer needs to be made fully aware of every warranty that is available and what it covers and what it don't cover. When I bought my computer as well as my daughters from Best Buy, when I left, the warranty was crystal clear. When my son asked for the same warranty, why wasn't he given the same warranty. I'm not really into computers and besides the pretty purple mice they have, and the cute mouse pads, cute keyboards, and some video games I couldn't care less about this store. that's not to say it's not good. I'm in here all the time since my boyfriend loves this store more then anything (besides me of course) literally in there almost every weekend. the only complaint I'd ever have is how hard it is to get my boyfriend to leave! seriously he can be in there for hours. they need some chairs or something for the bored girlfriends because I know I'm not alone! I see other girls being dragged around yawning too. this place is great though for computers and stuff like that. I have some awesome video card for my sims now thanks to this store. also an awesome dvd burner :) and they were quite helpful when I needed something to link two of my computers up to 1 monitor. read more

Boy did she know her products! We ended up buying the i7 Surface 6 with 16GB memory. She also helped me pick out a great gaming monitor. Disclaimer: This is a follow-up to Tom W's review (see below) The short version: If you need to buy an Apple product, there is an Apple store literally right down the street at Roosevelt Field where people will at least pretend to be happy to answer your questions and sell you things exactly as advertised. The long version: In the few times that I have been here I felt as if the store was expecting the merchandise to sell themselves, and that human interaction and having to explain the subtle differences that justify one price point versus another was some kind of a burden. They can probably tell I am not their target clientele so it's understandable if they have no interest in helping me. Between our mortgage, car payments, caring for my parents, and saving up for our kids' future, we haven't have the luxury of time or disposable income for shiny things like tablets, HDTV's, and iPhones. Yet last Monday, for about 60 minutes as my husband drove to Westbury, updating me on his progress, we both felt a sense of excitement building. He said Microcenter has put last year's iPhone on sale for an irresistible price, and a rep has kindly reserved the last remaining unit. He says it's time to update my phone. I said my phone is okay. He said all the pictures I take of the kids with it turning out blurry is not okay. I said I don't need it. He told me I deserved it. Then he said it comes in gold, with a finality of knowing he had me convinced. I reminded him to check in periodically with the rep as he drove, just in case. And when his last update "I'm here! I'm parked! Five minutes to closing" full of excitement was followed by 30 minutes of radio silence, I knew something was not right. When he finally called back, he told me that when he arrived, the rep he was in contact with suddenly said that the phone was no longer for sale. The rep was unsympathetic, the reasons he gave were conflicting, inconsistent and illogical, but the store was closing and there was nothing he could do. The disappointment was surprisingly brief. Almost instantly, the conversation was back to what's the route home with the least traffic? When is our daughter's next doctor appointment? How about picking up the prescription from the pharmacy on the way back? That instant where people temporarily turn their attention away from the day-to-day and think about a delightful gadget or futuristic luxury is the essence of the allure of technology. Without that excitement, products, stores, and even entire brands quickly whither and die. And therein lies the difference between a visit to an Apple store and a visit to Microcenter. The former kindles and thrives on that excitement by engaging the customer while the latter suffocates and snuffs it out by bullying the customer. The former is an uplifting escape to one brand and one visionary's mesmerizing gospel of the future, the latter a stark and demoralizing reminder that your wallet and not your person is the focus of attention when people expect you to overpay for things you don't really need. read more

I've never been to any other microcenter, but what I do know is that vast majority of the employees aren't very knowledgeable when it comes to PC building. There are a select few, but that's about it. Pricing can be good and bad. Good in that sometimes you can find an unexpected kick ass deal on a really good refurbished or open box sound card, etc. But generally their prices just plain suck. $12 for a SATA cable is a bit ridiculous. However if you're in dire need of some computer parts and need them ASAP, then I guess they're pretty convenient. If you know how to, and like to build your own computer, this would be the place. Come here AFTER you got some IT and other computer related knowledge under your belt. Micro Center is FAO Schwarz for adults. For tech enthusiasts, they have,and I am not even exaggerating, everything. When you make enough trips to Micro Center, you kind of take for granted that whatever it is your need for your build or your project is in stock and easy to find. Possibly the only thing more remarkable than their selection is the store's no-nonsense feel. There are no giant banners and life-size cutouts to distract you and tell you what to buy. Everything from the lowest bargain-basement-priced parts to the high-end ultra-high-performance parts have their price and specs clearly marked, in the same size font, on the same 3x5 size card. I really appreciate this small detail because it makes me feel empowered as a consumer to make comparison and reach my own conclusions as to what I need for my application and how much I am willing to pay for a marginal unit of utility, performance, or just straight-up bragging rights. There is absolutely zero upselling and for people who may be less well-versed in tech, the vast selection and no clear push for one product over another can understandably feel overwhelming. The layout of the store is also commendable. Someone with Vulcan logic obviously made decisions about where everything should be placed. Building a computer? The CPUs are next to the motherboards, which are next to the cooling hardware, which are next to the power supplies, etc. Setting up a 3D printing studio? The printers are next to the filaments, which are next to the software, which are next to the scanning solutions, etc. The sales associates, possibly because they are often so focused on helping each customer before moving on to the next, can be a little hard to get a hold of. Once you have their attention though, they are very knowledgeable and happy to help you out. Like the store where they work, they do not try to upsell or push you to a more expensive product you don't need or a warranty you do not want. Yet also like the technology that they represent, they can sometimes lose sight of the human side of their work. I have had several experiences where salespeople have flat-out refused to hold an item, even for 5 minutes, because i'm stuck in traffic trying to get to the store, or refused to sell something as advertised on the website because the manufacturer gave unclear instructions on item pricing. Store policy they said. Thankfully, every single one of my mishaps have been resolved fairly. For every 1 employee who has had a negative interaction with me, 3 others have followed up to find a way to resolve our differences. Corporate gets involved, customer relations guys, this is obviously a company that cares about its reputation. I understand that every business has rules and policies and customers and employees alike have to respect, but I hope more people who work at Micro Center can remember that while they sell cold, precision-manufactured aluminum, silicon and glass, at the end of the day the store's mission is to provide a service to customers who are human and who have feelings and expectations that come before following rules and regulations to the letter. read more

Don't shop here. Not even if you have to! Humans should be treated better than this! I can't believe they have become this horrible. Micro Center has been my firm's and personal go-to store for all of our technical needs for at least a decade now. We easily spent $20k+ a year there. Time to make a permanent change. After today's experience with their general manager, I won't go back there again and on Monday, I will be instructing each of my employees that Micro Center is no longer an authorized vendor. I had sent my representative today to return a simple cable, inadvertently purchased together with a monitor, after the sales person insisted there was no cable with the monitor. Of course, there was. Simple mistake, no big deal. A 30 minute drive in each direction and 15 minutes on the return line, but, no big deal. The big deal started when the clerk accidentally processed a return for the entire order, and not just the monitor. This would normally cause one problem. My representative did not have MY credit card on him, which is NOT necessary for returns, but IS necessary for repurchases. The second problem was that this purchase was made in 2015. The fiscal year is now closed and the credit card has been paid. The tax accounting data has also been finalized. As such, I cannot have returns and re-purchases of technology that is already on my books for 2015. The manager on duty got involved. He claimed to be the highest ranking employee in the store today, although there is no way of verifying that. This did not help. It might have helped, had the manager been a competent and intelligent individual. He was not. When I asked my rep to put ht manager on the line, I explained the problem to him and told him that he could not re-sell me the monitor, but simply had to void out the return transaction and then process the return solely for the cable, his response was simply "Don't tell me how to do my job!" He did not allow me to respond to that, but rather handed the phone back to my agent and advised him, a dignified 65 year old professional, that since I was in possession of the monitor and the store had processed a return, unless we re-purchased it, he would call the police and report it as a theft. I rarely encounter even the lowest level of employee, who would treat his company's customers with such rudeness and hostility, not to mention intimidation with empty threats (police do not prosecute accidental refunds by stores as theft by customers - and a store making such hollow threats, should not be shopped at!). Ultimately, on standing his ground, the only resolution my agent received was that the entire transaction was then cancelled (including the refund for the cable) and the manager advised that we had to call the accounting department on Monday to resolve the 'issue'. I don't understand what the issue was, since the simple solution would have been to do what he ultimately did and THEN, process a refund for just the cable. This experience is so disgusting to me, that quite frankly, I am seriously considering boycotting not just this store (which is a given, unless MicroCenter fires that manager by Monday and shows me proof), but the MicroCenter website and their Queens location, where we probably spend an additional $10-12k a year. I know that might be going a bit overboard, but now that Amazon has same day delivery, and given that B&H has lower prices, as does Newegg, what's the point in trying to build a relationship with a local store, when the store doesn't want my business? Don't go there. Save the aggravation. Order online from a good vendor like Amazon or Newegg, and you'll get whatever you want without having to leave your home, deal with MicroCenter's atrocious lines with only one cashier on duty, and most importantly, without the customer service from hell! read more

Micro Center in Westbury had been one of my favorite stores since I moved to Long Island several years ago. I've purchase a number of things, including an AIO PC, router, WiFi extender and two SSDs. And just last week, I bought a monitor and wireless keyboard/mouse combo to complete my home workstation. That said, I had a terrible experience last night that has completely changed by view on this store. As I have often done in the past, I went to the Micro Center website to look for any good deals that sometimes arise. I came across a Dell XPS 12, which I had always wanted but was a bit out of my price range. So I was ecstatic to find that my store had one in stock in new condition for just $449! The next morning I received an email confirmation that my order was ready for pickup. A manager, went to check out what happened, only to come back and tell me that they had no new ones in stock and that I should have received an email saying that the item I ordered was a used clearance product. I knew this was not correct because the one I ordered had a SKU of 279729 and a newer CPU, which is clearly stated on my pickup email shown above. This was different from the open-box item they tried to sell to me, which had a SKU of 996264 and an older processor as seen here: http://www.microcenter.com/product/426887/XPS_12_Convertible_Ultrabook_-_Carbon_Fiber Because the product was discontinued, the manager said he could not order a new one. Instead, he'd work with me to find a product that they had in stock which was "comparable" and discount the price. As I'm not the arguing type and even though I doubted they'd have anything like the XPS 12 in a price range was comfortable with, I was willing to compromise. So after waiting for 15 minutes, he finally sent over a customer service rep to see what they could find. This person, whose name was Gi, was actually very nice and forthright. He also told me what I already knew, which was that it was unlikely that I'd be able to find a product for anywhere near the same price. The only comparable ultrabook with similar specs was an Asus Transformer Chi 300, which was $150 more expensive, despite -- as he pointed out -- having an underpowered CPU. I was getting pretty frustrated. I'd been there for about 45 minutes to deal with an issue that was clearly the fault of the store. So Gi called over the manager and I told him about the only system that was comparable. Of course, there was no way he was going to give me that one for the same price. Apparently, a royal screw up like this wasn't worth $150 to rectify - even for a loyal customer who had spent thousands at the store in the years prior. At this point, I just wanted to leave. So I asked the manager if he could provide me with a coupon or voucher in the amount he would have discounted had I bought an alternative product, which I could use on the unlikely event that a comparable product ever materialized. He said that wasn't possible but gave me his card and said to call him and he'd "work with me" if I did find a similar product in the future. Yeah right. The worst part of this was that he didn't even bother to see if any of their other stores had a new one in stock that could shipped to the Westbury store. What I suspect is that the one I ordered with the correct SKU was in stock. But they either sold it by mistake to someone else or one of the employees took it for himself because it was such a great deal. Then they tried to dump the clearance item on me thinking I'd be none the wiser. Boy, they must believe that their customers are really stupid. Ultimately, what should have been a 5 minute order pickup ending with me leaving with a product I was truly excited about, proved to be an hour long lesson in futility that ended with me leaving with nothing more than a promise from a guy that showed very little concern for what had happened. This experience left such a bad taste in my mouth that I felt compelled to create a Yelp account just to write this. Later today I plan on returning the monitor and keyboard/mouse combo I purchased last week - not because I don't like them, but because I can't in good conscious give money to any store that would treat their customers like this. read more

If you are or want to be a geek (in the sense that you know how to build, take apart, and can diagnose computer issues), this is your Mecca. If you are looking for a great price on any electronics, this is your spot as well. They don't have as wide and varied a selection as J&R, but enough that will make you happy. I just hope for all of your sake and my husband's that MC can keep its doors open and the amazing deals coming! read more

The best computer store I've ever been too. A vast selection of products - almost everything you can think of that would be somehow related to computers. Help in the store can be hard to find, but only because everyone else is being/looking for help too. The employees know their stuff. The prices here tend to be kinda over pricey at times. I would give negative stars if I could. You cannot call this company to get status. You get pushed to a National number. Heaven forbid you have an issue and have to speak to a manager. I contacted the chat service on your site and they had another store contact me who did not have my laptop. He was in Flushing and my laptop is in Westbury. Best part they were going to have the Westbury manager contact me. That was Saturday and it's Wednesday. Great customer service! This place sells second hand garbage and cannot deal with the repairs in a timely fashion. Spend the extra few bucks and go to Dell, Apple or even Staples. 3 out of the 5 "new" laptops I have bought at Microcenter have had issues in less than a year. Worst customer "service" experience I have ever had. Now a bot will reply back and tell me they are "sorry" for this "inconvenience". Do not waste your time with this place. read more

This place has it all. Especially since CompUSA has gone out of business and Best Buy isn't ideal to buy parts for computers. The staff at this location are very knowledgeable. Each time I am visiting to replace or repair parts of my PC , there is a staff member eager to assist me. In other establishments, associates making the sale is the objective. But here, the associates primary goal is to help me make an informative decision on a specific repair giving all known options. One associate even had told me about an upcoming sale on laptops knowing that I was ready to spend my money that day. I was grateful to wait the week out because I got a much better laptop then the one I was originally interested in and for about the same price. I highly recommend Micro Center for PC purchases, parts and or accessories. read more

Very bad service overall in this micro center. It lacks employees ALL THE TIME! Even when there's a 10-15 people line, there will only be 1-2 counters open even though there are like 8 of them. Some employees choose to stand around looking at people rather than helping people at the counter. Their prices are pretty good but their employees need some serious work. This review is for Micro Center's online tech support... I purchased a Winbook Security DVR about three years ago and forgot the admin password (after it was changed during initial setup). Contacted Micro Center's online tech support and they were able to provide me a super admin password. Eventhough I needed to provide proof of purchase for the DVR (which I couldn't), they were able to find a record of my purchase in their database. The tech person was very patient and helpful which made me a believer that Micro Center stands behind their products. read more

This has been my go to spot for electronic equipment for years now. Some of the staff members are not knowledgable. i.e. I asked a staff member which external hard drive he recommended for my sons PS4 because we were going to upgrade the memory and he said we couldn't change the hard drive only the Xbox. I was not in the mood to school this unknowing child on tech. Especially systems that he should be familiar with or excuse yourself and get someone who can answer my question. I chose to ignore his response and I just chose for myself a brand that I used for my old PS3 upgrade. Besides that some of the staff members just stand around and talk to each other while customers such as myself are looking for assistance. Maybe I'm expecting to much from people but if you're at work shouldn't you work? Overall, it's a good place to go. That being said... I recently purchased an AMD processor. When I put together the new computer, the thermal paste stuck to the heatsink (fan for cooling), and the processor popped off with the heatsink stuck to it, damaging some pins. I brought it back four days after I bought it, and they were not willing to let me return it nor would they even speak to AMD about the warranty, so I am disappointed in how they dealt with that, that is not the customer service I am looking for. read more

I am providing follow up on my previous review (as a reminder I had taken my laptop for battery replacement, first they ordered the wrong battery then the replacement battery was dead and in the process they lost my digital pen). Despite multiple phone calls and emails, Micro Center still has not addressed the issue with the computer battery that they replaced as well as the digital pen that they lost. This is a very disorganized store with extremely poor customer service. I wish I have never taken my computer to this place for repair. Be aware and stay away. read more

They replaced the hard drive on my iMac after I discussed that I only wanted to replace it if I could get the same performance and . Although I haven't too many troubles with the hard drive...it is slower than my original and i am having trouble running programs that never had problems before (they freeze up unexpectedly). My biggest gripe is that I am bombarded daily with multiple junk emails from them. I have unsubscribed 10 times and have called them as well but they don't care. read more

This place makes me bored and cranky. There's nothing pretty or interesting for me to look at. It angers me to see so many things I don't know the name or function of in one enormous location illuminated by blinding fluorescent lights. I kind of hate it here. However, my boyfriend absolutely loves this place and his face lights up like a child on Christmas day who's about to get a unicorn/race-car hybrid when I suggest that we should visit this place. He could spend hours excitedly looking at and commenting on the thingys I don't know the name or function of. What he doesn't buy on Newegg he buys here, in order to make his awesome computers. Note: I am an Asian-American - this has relevance in the 2nd half of my review. Stores that sell PC parts have become an incredibly rare commodity. As a resident of Connecticut, I used to envy New Yorkers who have local access to Microcenter brick & mortar stores since we don't have anything here except for Best Buy (which barely qualifies as a PC parts store). The hour or so drive from lower Connecticut to Long Island isn't too bad if one strategically plots out the purchases to negate any loss in gas/time (especially since Microcenter sometimes has deals that beat even Amazon & Newegg). On May 25th, 2012, I did exactly that and purchased two CPU & Motherboard combos. The system e-mailed me indicating that it was ready for store pickup and I made the drive the next day on a gorgeous sunny Saturday afternoon (May 26th, 2012). Upon arriving, they genuinely had the stuff ready for pickup but had REFUSED to sell me the second CPU/Motherboard combo. They cited a store policy where they do not sell more than one set of a CPU/Motherboard combo per customer in order to prevent the local Asian PC re-selling community from clearing out their inventory. ** Having worked retail at a different electronics store in the past, I genuinely *understand* why they have such a policy in place. However, I wonder if they would have enforced such a policy had I not been Asian. ** I asked to speak to a manager in an effort to professionally and politely plead my case. I showed her my Connecticut driver's license to prove residency and assured her that I do not belong in such a community. Unfortunately, she stood her ground and I left with only one of the two CPU/Motherboard combos. Amazon received the rest of my money later that afternoon. This experience burns me 'til this day -- enough to write this review over two and a half years later. I have been and will continue to refuse making the hour+ drive down from Connecticut. It is not worth the gas or time (not to mention a high chance of hitting nasty traffic along the I-95 corridor) only for them to refuse my money via a false assumption. read more

If you're looking for rude employees who are incompetent and do not know anything about computers or electronics, by all means shop there. If you're looking to have to make more than one trip to return a product that will not work and not be what you need because you stupidly assumed the employees were knowledgeable, by all means shop there. read more

This store needs more sales help. 20 or more customers on floor only 2 sales people available, not a good look. Micro Center needs to hire more people. read more

I ordered something to be picked up in the store. 18 minute pick up. I never got a confirmation, called the store and spoke with someone who said they were very far behind in their services. I got to the store an hour later and they still didn't have my product ready. After waiting an additional 30 minutes for my product, they proceeded to tell me to go to the back of the line which I just waited on. 18 minute service? More like 18 hour service. This place is useless beyond words. Go buy your stuff elsewhere. read more

I have used micro center for over 10 years and have been very satisfied with the staff knowledge and products. Recently I do not know what they are doing but there is no communication and the service technicians are lying to get a buck while holding your computer hostage until you pay the inflated charges. All I requested was a hard drive install and was over charged for labor and install with no diagnostic testing done on my computer. Buyer beware read more
