As of now they get 5 stars. The longer it takes to get the Flushing store open so I don't have to drive out to the Westbury Store, the lower the score will go. If you need it they have it and at a price that is reasonable. Update: After having two really bad visits in a row. I have to give this Micro Center a huge thumbs down. First Bad Experience: Go to do a return and the power in the store keeps failing. After the hurricane so ok. When the power comes back we have to wait for their Tech Support to bring everything back up. Once my transaction is complete the printer at the computer won't work. So I have to rely on the email system to send me a receipt. Which it never does. Second Bad Experience: Order two Hard Drives for Pickup. Say 3 on hand. When I get there they only have 1. I get the only attitude from the girl at the Pick-Up counter. While standing there waiting for a Manager to find out if they have the second drive I am listening to the other conversations going on around me. Each and every person was having some sort of Issue and was receiving the same,"I really don't give a damn about you or your business.", type of attitude. One Manager, Male, Dark Hair, Glasses looked to be in his 30's, was helping another customer making a HUGE purchase and was so unwilling to care at all about anything the customer had to say as was will to let the Customers reasonable request go undone and let what was clearly a purchase worth over a thousand dollars. I decide to take the one hard drive they did have. Mistake. I ordered IDE and they gave me SATA. I can even say things happen. I re-order this morning and go to double check, finding my order has been canceled. I am now on hold for over 20 min. to speak to someone. I am done with this company. I will no longer recommend this company to any Client, friend or family member. Sorry, you guys are on a one way road to failure based upon our customer service. read more

I stopped in for questions and service on my Apple MacBook Pro. I waited 5 minutes without an appointment. There was a place to sit and wait and a place to sit while getting service. The service adviser was patient and professional, he spent 25 minutes with me and solved the problem, which saved me several hundred dollars in repairs. The 5 year old Mac Book Pro had a broken touch pad, the adviser created a workaround solution that was completely satisfactory by disabling the broken touch pad and using an outboard USB pad. No charge , No waite, no pain, great attitude! Five stars. read more

Ironically I was referred here by a Best Buy employee. I went to Best Buy hoping they could help me resolve an issue but they could not and referred me here. Actually, I went to 2 different Best Buy's. I recently bought a sound bar for my flat screen tv which is over 5 years old and only has one hdmi port. I knew I needed a a device to give me access to more hdmi ports to be able to connect my set top box/cable box, sound bar, and television together. I typically use Amazon to buy stuff and ended up buying a hdmi port switch. It did not take me long to figure out the switch only enabled me to switch hdmi access from one device connected to an hdmi port to another. But what I needed was a device to enable me to connect several devices using hdmi ports. I finally got the right answer from Danny Z at this Micro Center. The answer was a HDMI splitter that helped me split the signal to several different devices. Eureka! It really was the answer to my prayers and you would think that this would not be such a complicated issue to resolve these days when almost everyone has a flat screen tv that requires a sound bar to sound decent. But it was. So this ended up being a lesson about where to buy things and the convenience of having access to knowledgeable staff. Sometimes that can make all the difference in the world. read more

After about an hour they found me one for $339.00 which seamed really high. I checked and Bestbuy which always charges list was $259.00 I asked the manager to price match bestbuy right down the road. I had run of bad products over the last year and the GM comes out and wants an explanation, not withstanding the amount of money they received from me, the were concerned about the returns. My husband purchased a computer for my daughter, first he experienced the bait and switch. Good price but not available... Then he was told that a similar/better computer was available. From day one my daughter had problems with this computer. The "mouse" had disappeared from the scroll pad. We returned the computer for repair, but we were told it was out of warranty which it wasn't, then they tried to charge us for repairs. They kept my computer and actually scratched the top of this new computer while it was in the store. I now have to use an actual mouse with this laptop! Buyer Beware!!! read more

I am a student at a university nearby and I spilled coffee all over my semi new macbook on the first day of class!! I was super worried that I would have to get a new laptop that I couldn't afford. When I went in, the people at the help desk were so helpful in diagnosing the problem and were very good about giving me updates for when the computer would be ready. When I went to pick it up, many of the people shook my hand thanking me for my business, which was super nice!! Even though there was significant damage my laptop runs like new. If you're a college student that needs repairs on an apple product, I would definitely recommend going to a Micro Center rather than the Apple Store where they don't give you the time of day. read more

This is my favorite tech store. Micro Center has some of the best prices around. I've been coming here for several years and it never fails me. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for computer-related items. They also sell Macs but their Apple selection has dwindled over the years. The WORST place for business customers of ANY kind! Nonprofits are NOT welcome at Microcenter: CASH is legal tender and acceptable anywhere in the US... but Microcenter If you represent a 501(c)3 not for profit charity and want to shop at Microcenter, DON'T BOTHER you CAN'T! They will NOT accept tax exempt forms, IRS notices of determination or any other proof of tax exempt status for CASH transactions under ANY circumstances. Actions illegal in New York State: Their relegation of Non Profit entities to these special rules are illegal as per New York State Publication 843, page 16, which clearly states "...To qualify as an exempt purchase, both the name of the organization and its employee, officer, or agent must be identified on any bill or invoice. Payment must be made using cash, a check, or a debit or credit card of the organization..." Nor can you use credit\debit cards unless they photocopy it first (!!?!) and it is preapproved by the manager PER TRANSACTION, (shop 10 times, get approvals EACH TIME). Business checks similarly have to be approved by the manager in advance and can take up to a half hour to process (don't even THINK of a personal check). All of these conditions apply for even long term repeat volume business customers (which mocks the concept of appreciating and valuing customer loyalty). For profit business are also treated like dirt: If you represent a for-profit entity everything should be fine right? Not if you are paying by check! The same convoluted, time consuming rules apply and you have to be preapproved for check payments as well. Customer service & Business complaints go nowhere The most logical course of actions for the complaints above would have been to report the recurring problems to Microcenter's management and chain of command. Unfortunately, not only are store supervisors and managers not willing to deal with this issue directly (citing "...corporate policy...") but they will NOT tell you WHO to direct complaints regarding these policies in corporate HQ. They essentially dismiss complaints about these policies out of hand and will literally walk away from you if you attempt to get more detailed information. Bottom line: Microcenter is NOT business friendly! read more

Love this place!! I call it "The nerdery". Where i can go to unleash my inner nerd. I read through some of the other reviews and i was a little surprised because I've never had anything but a positive experience shopping here.... My go to person is Corey. He works in the computer dept. So this review is for him. He knows his stuff, and is easy to talk to. He helped me out a few months ago with my gaming computer build. I told him my budget and what i wanted and he checked out the sales and i ended up with alot more than i expected. It was just like Christmas!! I went there yesterday to buy a new case because i was having heat related issues (i didn't upgrade my case with the new build) so he hooked me up with a new case with xtra airflow. I put everything in the new case and haven't had an issue yet! But he told me if i continued to have issues to come back and see him. Its nice to be able to go into a place and have knowledgeable people to talk to... you've just gotta know how to talk to them too. I have always liked Micro Center, they have a great selection, and are one of the last stores where the people who work there actually have real knowledge of the products they are selling. I never have trouble getting someone to help me. It reminds me of a better version of the old Compusa. Stores like this are important to keep around because you can't always just go on Amazon, sometimes, you need advice and guidance on the right product to buy! When I first went there, I was really impressed and agreed with other reviewers about staff knowing what they were talking about. However, this evening, I really had an experience that infuriated me. In fact, I'll be posting this elsewhere. Here it is: Bought two LCD monitors ONLY because a salesman at this store recommended them. Big mistake. It was nearly impossible to read text on either monitor, especially at bottom half of the screen. (In the store, they display monitors only with a DVD of colorful fish swimming around coral.) Returned both, and told returns clerk the truth: the display was awful. I was then charged a 15% "open box" fee. (Clerk told me the fee was noted in tiny print on receipt.) When I complained about never having heard about the "open box" fee to the manager, he said, "If a customer asks, we tell them." I NEVER, EVER would have bought them had I known. Now, that's $50 down the drain. I got this advice from another customer, who had heard me complaining: "Don't tell them it's not good or isn't what you were expecting. You have to say the product is defective in order not to be charged a restocking fee." read more

Wow...did my butt hurt after leaving here. I came here originally to buy the i7 930 that they were having a special for $199 (lowest anywhere I could find) and an OEM Windows 7 ($109). Instead of sticking to my guns and just leaving with a CPU & Win7, I got roped into buying several other parts. The salesperson seemed pretty enthused and tried to oversell me on certain things. One in particular was a crappy Power Supply Unit. I told him the specs of my machine (pretty power hungry) and he still recommended this unit to me. Fast Forward 4 hrs later. I finished putting together my computer & went online to check out load tests for the PSU (Power Supply Unit). Lo and behold, "It can't deliver its labeled wattage at high temperatures, but this is not the worst of it: ripple and noise level are way above the maximum allowed when you pull 80% or more from the unit's labeled capacity (i.e. 600 W and above), overloading your components (especially electrolytic capacitors from the motherboard and video cards), which can cause your PC to present an erratic behavior (crashes and random resets) and, under extreme conditions, damage components." Moral of the story: Yes, they'll have amazing deals on certain items (mostly CPUs). But everything else is much more expensive than Newegg and the reps there are more interested in making a commission than offering solid advice. Double check on return policy before buying anything here. Also, their warranty/protection plan sounds pretty sketchy. If it's anything like their return policy, I'd avoid it anyhow. It sounded way too good to be true. Stick with Newegg, avoid the microcenter markup + tax. Also, it's not their policy to pricematch with newegg. I am business member of Microcenter. Today I visited the Merrick Ave. store. Unfortunately, I was the victim of the bait and switch. I was interested in purchasing a Seagate 5TB portable drive that was listed on sale for 89.99. Two were listed instock on their website. There were none on the sales floor. A salesperson went back to check, but claimed there was a probable error for the in stock notification. So, instead of providing me with what I asked, the salesperson suggested that the only equivalent was the WD 5TB portable drive, which was 109.99. $20 more for those who don't know math. This is not the first time anyone has been lead astray by these illegal practices. However, I wasn't going to resolve myself to purchasing something that I was not there for. Another case of disreputable sale's practice. Unfortunately, as a customer I have no proof that it was intentional, but the facts lend themselves in my favor; especially when the store makes no effort to compensate me for their discrepancy, by offering an equitable deal that is close to what I had lost. read more

When I got home I discovered that the camera and mic weren't working. So a trip back for them to fix a problem that didn't exist before. I really want to give this place five stars, but I have to take one off because it's just *impossible* to find a salesperson most of the time. Otherwise, this place is great - it's like the computer stores you remember from when you were a kid. Just parts everywhere, plus peripherals and accessories you can't easily find elsewhere. And their selection is ridiculous - they have two sides of an entire aisle literally filled with laptop cases packed so tight that you're afraid pulling one out will topple the entire row. It's the kind of place a geek could live forever. I have a hard time tearing myself away whenever I visit - I always end up with an armful of stuff I didn't even know I needed. Contrary to some others here, whenever I've gone there's never been any checkout line at all, and only one register open - I'm always worried about whether they're on the way out of business. I guess I just go at good times. Back to my missing star - I did try to buy a digital camera once (they're all kept behind a counter) and I could not get anyone to help me for about ten minutes. Maybe I'm just not rude enough, but every salesperson was constantly helping at least two other people. Forget about anyone asking "can I help you?" - you apparently need to butt in to an existing transaction if you want service. (Yes, even on slow days like when I usually go.) I think if the salespeople aren't actually involved with customers, they're expected to be in the back cleaning up or restocking or something - you just never see them loitering around the floor waiting for customers. But they've actually lost a couple sales from me with that policy - I ended up getting my camera elsewhere, and the same thing has happened once or twice since. Most of their stuff is self-service, though, and for that stuff this place is the best brick and mortar store around. read more

My first time at Micro center and I was pretty amazed by the stuffs they had. I was expecting something like Best Buy but it was totally different. The best thing I liked about this place is that the collection they had on refurbished items and also the fact that you can BYOC (Built your own computer). Well these days pretty much nobody can beat newegg.com for price and service, but if you are in a bind and need a part, or you browse their sales circular, this is the place. They have everything here from OEM processors to scsi cards. Certainly the only Brick and mortar store that you can find on LI that is like that. Bottom line is that if I want to buy a whole system I usually use newegg, but this place is great for emergencies and browsing for impulse buys. The sales are often as good or better than the online prices. The only thing that sucks about this place is that most of the time they have like 4 registers open with lines 10+ deep making your checkout experience suck. Since Radio Shack has basically converted into a cell phone & toy store I now go to Micro Center for all my wires/computer part/etc. I don't think I'd ever shop here for a TV (they do have them) but for memory cards and dvi cables, this is my place. The customer service varies depending on which day of the week you stop in. There's always long lines at the customer service counter and check out counters. And don't miss those clearance buckets! The staff are pretty knowledgable although for some reason whenever I go to the Apple section I find that I have to wait FOREVER before someone is available to help. Micro center in Westbury is the worst!! I been shopping there for years but the past couple of years has been terrible. On 8/3/2020 I went there to buy an iPad for my daughter and I was racially profiled. I was told they need Ed to go ran my state ID in the back office to check for potentials pending frauds due the increased frauds on apple products. I assumed all this is because I was paying with a credit card which by the way match my name on my license. I know most places check ID when you pay by Card but never heard of doing a mini background check to buy an iPad for $300. I asked about paying cash, they at first say no ID needed for cash purchase. So I went to the bank and came back to have another sales girl/ Nadorah G. telling me it's doesn't matter how I pay they still need to run my ID. Ridiculous and ignorant. Where is the potential fraud if I am paying cash and I have picture ID to match my credit card. I contacted corporate, spoke to Holly and never heard back. I would never shop there again. I experimented and sent someone to buy the same iPad they never even asked her for ID because she was white let alone trying to take her ID bad a different room to make copies and run. Racist store! Awesome Place and Price match online retailers. I buy all my office and personal stuff here for the most part. I dont mind paying the taxes because if I dont like the product, I just return it. I spend about 15K a year annually here. Recent purchase was the Unify Controller, Unify 24 Port POE Switch and a cheap Wireless AP for a small home network I was cleaning up. Guy who helped me located the products in the store and was helpful. I knew what I wanted, and he helped me find it. Pretty simple, and the pricing was actually cheaper than New Egg. I also buy all my laptops here. I see the negative reviews, but I think a lot of it is ignorance of the customer, and the fact that the employees need to hustle for the commission. I can understand why a employee will rush someone for a $5 usb stick, but the truth is, the customers need to understand that. Also when it comes to PC repairs, that is always a hit or miss in a store like that. Your best bet is to use a local IT company. But what ever floats your boat. I worked for fortune 100 companies for approx 17 years as a Network Engineer and currently work for a mid size Real Estate Management Company (40 user) for the last 12 years and I am very happy with selection. I am not saying you can buy a Cisco Catalyst here, but soho stuff is avail and they have a good selection. read more

Bought a laptop recently and the guy who helped me couldn't answer my questions. He didn't know basic computer terms and could not explain his claims when questioned. Really good store with excellent inventory and excellent prices .... BUT ... Non-existent customer service. I had ordered a TV online (Friday) an I had to pick it from the store. So, on Sunday I drove from Manhattan to Westbury (about 35 miles and a lot of traffic) and got there just about 10 minutes late. Customers were still in there paying and leaving. I approached the guard and told him that I just have to pick up the TV that is already reserved and that's it. He wouldn't listen. I tried to explain to him that I drove from the city and would not be able to come back until next weekend, but he would not listen. He tells me that the manager has asked him not to let anyone in. Fair enough! So I asked him to let me speak to the manager. He tells me, with a very nasty attitude, that he can't go back and call the manager and just turned away and started talking to other customer reps. I understand that he had to be by the door and can't go back to call the manager, but if he had any ounce of customer service in him, he would have asked one of the reps to do it for him, but he instead preferred to start talking to him while I am standing there. I was very upset so I called to speak to the manager next day. The manager also said that it is their policy and the security guard did what he was supposed to. WHAT? I told him that I am not so upset about what he did (although I was extremely upset about him not letting me in, but I understood that he probably didn't have that option available) but how he did that. Then the manager asks me, "So, what do you want me to do?" Excuse me? That really was it for me. That shows that even the manager didn't know anything about customer service. I was not asking for freebies in turn, all I wanted was for him to talk to the security person so other customers don't have to deal with the attitude that I got. Man, I am disappointed. Its a shame that a store with so much to offer is being run by people who are turning the customers away! read more

You should avoid this place at all costs. Salespeople have no idea what's in stock, what the prices are, and just look dumbfounded when you ask them a question. On the off chance you do happen to find what you're looking for and it's not overpriced, have fun waiting on a huge checkout line that moves slower than a slug. Seriously, a slug will get to the front of the line faster than you. Also, make sure you wear light clothing because the air is going to be at least 80 degrees and stagnant, and just to make sure you're as uncomfortable as possible, there's a constant, loud hum in the background, I assume from the bright overhead fluorescent lighting. When you get home and discover that your product is broken (likely to happen - I just bought THREE (out of three) dead hard drives from there), then OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH BOOOOOOOOOOOOYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY are you in for a treat. The returns line is like the checkout line on steroids. Expect to wait at least an hour, maybe 2 or 3. It doesn't matter how many people are in front of you since one person can easily take 30-45 minutes. They do have a 30 day return policy, but they like to penalize you as much as possible for doing so by purposely making that line move as slowly as possible. So next time, you know to just keep whatever garbage you bought from them instead of wasting 3 hours of your life trying to return it. In conclusion, thank god for amazon and newegg. read more

Worst MicroCenter of all locations. This is coming from someone who spends a lot there annually. Mostly at the Queens store and Yonkers location. Decided to check this one out since I was in the area. Everything is disheveled. Employees don't seem to care but hang out like frat boys and chat with each othet, throwing things at each other. And when I washed them where the 3D printers were, one employee asked another and another and by the third employee who didn't know. I just said nevermind, I'll order it from Amazon instead. As of this writing, microcenter has the best prices on cpu's, both retail and online. Their oem optical drives are on par with Amazon and Newegg. The rest of their components such as graphic cards are a little pricer. Of course, you still avoid online shipping costs. Overall, a great store with a very impressive array of componets and difficult to obtain parts for system builders. Their pc cases alone make the trip worthwhile for serious pc geeks and power users. It took them almost an "hour" to find them in the back. One customer service rep doesn't care about the issues and moves at a snail pace. The other is unable to communicate effectively with anyone, especially her manager who is just as useless. One employee did pass us by and after I explained the situation said "that's too bad".
