I was considering purchasing a new laptop and I spotted the Microsoft store on 5th Avenue and decided to look at the Surface Book or Surface Pro 4. I was undecided but I was very impressed with the design of the store. So I did a little research and found that this is intended to be the flagship store for Microsoft's and the first to have more than one floor. They are putting that space to good use. It has a open door front that leads you into a clean design layout with tables of with key Microsoft product just like Apples does at their store. The second floor features a large community theater, where store employees will hold training sessions and other events. And they have their technical support specialist up there also.There's also a huge section of the main floor devoted to Xbox, and a dedicated third party PC showcase, which will feature a slew of consumer and business hardware. The best part for me was how cool it was inside and a easy escape from the NYC 90+ degrees summer heat. read more

I have been trying to receive help with a Reference number that I had received in November of 2019. I feel that I have been ignored by Microsoft regarding this issue. I continue to hear that Microsoft cannot retrieve data from a closed account. I have been sending this same email to cdoccm@microsoft.com and msft@microsoft.com, since November of 2019. But I continue to get ignored regarding the reference number 1487708181. I understand the issue with retrieving data from a closed account. But when I originally filed the claim in November of 2019 and received the Reference number of 1487708181, my Microsoft account with the email address of michaelmccoy72@yahoo.com was still open. * So, shouldn't Microsoft still have this information. An investigation should have been completed back in 2019. * So, where are the results from the investigation? * Where is the communication between myself and Microsoft regarding the breach on my former account? * I submitted a copy of the Police Report Tracking number, to Microsoft. One of our business Surface laptops had an issue with the USB port and I went online at 7 p.m. the night before to schedule a 9:30 am appointment for the next day. An email confirming my appointment was received right away and I the next morning I headed to the Microsoft Store on Fifth Avenue. Upon arrival, several staff greeted me and one asked me if I needed assistance. I mentioned service for my device and I had an appointment, and was cheerfully guided to the second floor to connect with Jasmine. I have dealt with Jasmine in the past, as she was the one who rang up the many Surface Laptops we purchased in August 2017, as a matter of fact her name was on the receipt of the device I was bringing in. Jasmine warmly greeted me with that super huge smile of hers, and confirmed my appointment. She had two other people she was dealing with, but made sure I was seated at one of the bars to wait. It was fine since I was fifteen minutes early for my scheduled appointment. Here is what made me smile, Jasmine came over and said "okay, what problem are you having with the laptop." I explained that any USB device can't register because it only goes in part way. Jasmine picked up the Surface Laptop to look at the USB and quickly determined the issue. Apparently, a small clear ball -- the kind that comes in the silica packets was stuck under the bottom of the USB port. This would be correct since the packet in the laptop bag happened to burst open. I cleaned the bag, but one of the little balls must have found its way into the USB opening. Jasmine went to find tweezers to pull the item out. She had just left, when Julio came to the bar to greet me. I relayed Jasmine's finding to him, and said she would be back with an item to dislodge the item. Julio went across to the other bar and opened up a drawer and pulled out a paper clip, and then calmly plucked the little intruder out of the USB port. I laughed because I keep several unbent paper clips on my desk as a tool for everything. He provided me with his USB device to ensure the port was working. At this time Jasmine came back with her tool, and laughed upon finding out what Julio used. All of this took less than five minutes. Julio saw my terrible receipt copy and took the time to email me a clear one, which I can save and use if I needed to return to the store. All-in-all, it was a wonderful experience getting my device serviced at this Microsoft Store. Thank you to Jasmine and Julio for quickly handling the issue and making me laugh, even though I hadn't gotten my morning cup of joe yet. This store is and will continue to be my "go to" place for my company's -- and my personal, devices. read more

AVOID AT ALL COST!!!!! This review is after dealing with Microsoft Tech Support for 4 months over the phone!!!!!! The staff at the store on 5th Avenue, NYC is professional and knowledgeable. I bought a new Pro Computer in January 2020, they did a fantastic job! I switch from Geek Squad to Microsoft Tech Support, Big Mistake!!!! Since the store has been close, I've been calling agents from all over the World: Nicaragua, India, Philippines. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! The agents are clueless, they don't know what they are doing, they hang up on you, when they don't know the answer and they are very, very unprofessional and disrespectful!!!! The group of "advisers" are a "clown act". Struck one guy who preferred Apple products and who had limited Microsoft software knowledge. A scheduled 30-minute appointment took 90 minutes because the first 30 minutes were spent with the advisor looking at his screen where I had explained the problem (part of scheduling the appointment). This was done in silence. He then explained that he was doing "the paperwork", that "they were short of staff" (with four of his colleagues having a jovial conversation behind him), and finally asked me "what the problem was". The circus act continued when he asked a colleague to help (at my insistence). This guy had spent the last 30 minutes trying to chat up another customer and didn't seem to know any better. Finally, a senior person was introduced and he understood the problem and the solution. read more

I brought my MS Surface Pro 6 into the store yesterday because a couple of days ago I tried to turn it on and nothing happened. No warning beforehand - nothing. I bought it 13 months ago - meaning the warranty period ended last month. Someone greeted me at the door, I explained why I was there, and he guided me to the correct desk to have it looked at. I explained my problem to Jaime - and he asked me a few questions while looking it over. After going in the back and talking to his manager, he said that even though my warranty had ended, they would give me a new Surface to replace my dead one. So, we did some paperwork, he made sure I could set it up correctly and I walked out with a new Surface. Of course, it's sad that a $1,000 item could die at any time with no mishandling from the owner, but at least they were willing to replace it. We have had a few similarly great experiences at this store and would definitely recommend them to anyone. Jaime was really knowledgeable and friendly throughout. Moral of this story: BACK UP YOUR DATA! You could wake up one morning to a computer that won't turn on and lose everything! read more

Thank heavens Microsoft has a place staffed with humans. At least you have a shot at getting help. What I want to know is - how does Microsoft ever get new customers? They seem to hate us. I dare you to get help online without already having an account. Its just a 'chat' with an unbelievably stupid virtual assistant that can't help. It PRETENDS its going to connect you to someone....but NOOOO....it just asks for your account number or transfers you to another useless virtual 'assistant' which will ask you the same questions. Not one of those computerized chat personalities is helpful. Microsoft.....listen up.....new customers and potential customers DON'T HAVE ACCOUNTS YET ! Understand that? We can't sign in! Sometimes another options - to PAY for support - PAY for support for a product you JUST PURCHASED but can't get installed ? ! ! ? Even calling is useless. Microsoft windows 10 with it's automatic updates is the worst operating system I have ever used. Every time it updates, my computer slows down. Bad enough it takes you computer away for hours (4 for the last update) but then nothing work as it should. I think it is a plot by Microsoft to make you buy a new computer more frequently. There must be a way to PERMANENTLY disable the automatic updates..My next system is probably going to be a MAC. XP was better than Windows 7 and 7 was better Windows 10. Earlier this year we had a great experience buying an Xbox for my 8 year old son. But this time we went back and waiting in line for him to drive the virtual car on the 2nd floor. He had driven the car last time when here for his birthday no problem. But this time after waiting in a long line that gave no indication of any height requirement the woman who was managing the line said he was too small. We asked if we could support him with a jacket or something underneath and she says no. Weird thing is she don't seem to have a clue what she was doing. The kid in front of us who ride had to keep signaling to her to hit the button to start the machine and I finally told her to turn it on. Obviously she has no clue what she is doing and no sense of customer service instinct. My son left in tears because she would let him ride the car. She was a real tight ass! One of the great reasons to live in New York is that we live in a retail showplace. Apple, Nike, Microsoft (among others) all want to immerse natives and visitors in their Brand...Past, Present and Future. There is a "genius bar" type set-up, where you can get questions answers and certain problems solved...perfect for an issue with a "Surface" or a Microsoft phone, not so much for laptops out of warranty from other manufacturers. Despite what the negative folks write, the 5th Avenue Store is a wonderful way to engage customers...two monstrous floors for Microsoft product repairs, tech questions, warranty replacements and shopping...for current Microsoft products, software, games and the like. If you are on the CRM list, you can even get invitations for the occasional seminar or class for kids. read more

Extremely knowledgeable about the products and helped an old guy get it (sort of). Had a second visit and dealt with stretch who also knows his stuff. I was considering purchasing a new laptop, so while he looked at new phones, I perused the store. Ernest saw me looking over a laptop and came over to assist. He asked a few questions regarding my preferred laptop usage - personal or business; I said both but mainly gaming. He showed me the Alienware 15 and the Surface. Then he asked if I wanted to check out the other Alienware products on the third floor. Welcome to a gamer's paradise! A dark room of people gaming on beautiful PCs with excellent resolution. Never thought a broken computer would lead to a 5 star review on Yelp. Yesterday my Surface Pro 3 died on me and I was devastated. I started blogging recently so my laptop is so crucial now a days. I scheduled an appointment online for 6:45pm and arrived at the store at 6:30pm, and to my surprise they took me early. I was walked upstairs by Eddison and asked to have seat at one of the tables and he would be right with me. I pulled out my device and he assisted in troubleshooting my sad and dead device. In less than 10 minutes he was able to determine the battery on my beloved Surface pro 3 device was dead. The good news in the midst of all the bad news among-st losing a week's worth of blog posts WAS I HAD WARRANTY. I was able to pay only 50 bucks for a new device and walk out with it the same day. Not only did Eddison walk me through the warranty process he also set up my new Surface Pro and download all the updates as well. The space along is beautiful and includes a total of 4 floors which I believe 3 are open to the public. The store is well staffed and their employees are all professional & helpful. Microsoft is trying to outdo Apple service and sales. This is the best Microsoft Store in the NY Metro Area. Pleasant and helpful staff make sure you get what you want and need. Pablo solved my problem then made sure my Surface Pro was operating perfectly which I was delighted about. Warranty repairs are made quickly and efficiently. They give you a new one promptly out of their inventory if it can't be fixed. read more

It's a Microsoft store, it feels a lot like an Apple Store except all Microsoft products. The store itself is very beautiful and nice looking. I came here on the grand opening so it was very packed and I can't comment on the "customer service". The first floor is all windows phone and laptops, while the second was Xbox/Gaming stuff, the third floor is the "Dell experience" level which is just Dell paying Microsoft for shared retail space really. Overall it's just another retail store, but it's fun to tinker with all the gadgets. read more

It's a cool space and on the third floor you can play video games for free. I know it's not their fault but there were a lot of people in there that had strong body odor so it was hard to stay in the room for more than a couple of minutes. Just to be clear I haven't been happy with my surface pro 2 since before i received it. They announced the larger 3 would be coming before mine even shipped. Anyhow...I spent 9 hours trapped in my apt with the india support team trying to link my verizon yahoo email account (poorly suppported by verizon and everyone else). I kept asking for an appt but india refused to give up. Finally they closed for the day and at one point they did email me but i said i was super unhappy and only wanted an appt and they never replied So i walked in to the 5th ave store without an appt. First, i was there about an hour and the guy could not figure it out. He asked me to leave it and made me go home for a charger because they said they didn't have a charger to match my 1 year old machine. THE MICROSOFT STORE DID NOT HAVE A CHARGER COMPATIBLE WITH MY ONE YEAR OLD MICROSOFT COMPUTER. What a hassle so unprofessional They called me and said i had some signs of virus so they were scrubbing my machine but no update on my email. They asked for my email password, which i had written down for them, again. Later that week they called and said my password was wrong and i suggested they log in via internet if they weren't sure. Finally they called to pick up but still said that the password did not work. I went in and logged in via internet to prove my password worked. Then 3 guys looked at my surface for about an hour or more and finally one guy found the answer (wonky set up) in a manual. A microsoft manual. What a hassle. Hopefully the new machines are better becuase the store was pretty crowded. And the apple "geniuses" had quite a time setting up my verizon email on my phone and ipad. read more

Had to let them keep my Surface overnight but got a notification as soon it was ready. They fixed everything and even upgraded my version of Windows. Service takes way longer than they promise. I needed my Lenovo battery replaced and the store agent told me it would take 1 week - it's been 2 already and they haven't even started fixing my computer. Not sure if the agent quoted the wrong time or if they are taking longer than expected for this routine repair. On top of that, they said they would email me every step of the way and I never received any email. I just call the store to get updates. Save your money and time - go to a local repair shop or work directly with Lenovo and have someone come out to your house. Going through the Microsoft store is an unnecessary and cumbersome step. read more

ANTI-APPLE! I contacted corporate and no answer. Just awful, don't care or get it. I walked into the store and my first observation was a ton of blue and green shirts standing around, store empty. No one even looked up. Employees seemed miserable. Then a young man approached me and asked if I needed help. He told me he was very new there. I asked him about the Xbox One and had various questions. On my first round of questions when he could not answer so he asked another employee who was standing by a computer a few feet away looking at clothing for himself online with another employee. Really? He seemed bothered and did not even have the decency to look up. Gave a really quick response then walked away. Then I asked some further questions and again he could not answer so he went up to the front desk as I followed to ask another employee just standing there not seemingly happy or enthusiastic. That employee also seemed bothered and did not look at me. When he answered the question I said to him "I don't know what you just said." To which he replied "Well he'll explain it to you" meaning the young new employee. It was like I didn't exist. I was then completely annoyed and asked for the supervisor who was a young lady standing right beside him. He was cavalier about it as if it was not problem because it was a buddy system. He said "She's right here." OK so then I proceed to tell her what a horrible experience it has been, in the middle of my story another employee comes up to to her having an issue with his phone and she stops talking to me and directs her attention to him. I wait patiently and then she simply apologizes (not very genuinely) and says she'll take it up with training. Thank you and good bye. WOW. I was shocked and appalled. Remember the store was empty. I admit I am an Apple loyalist but there is a reason. I have never walked into an Apple store without full satisfaction and more. The difference is night and day. read more

Total incompetence.. I called the store to ask if they have the 1TB version of the 15" Surface Book 2. They said yes, they have it in stock. So, I ordered an Uber to take me 50 blocks uptown to the MS Store. When I arrived to the store, they inform me that whomever checked the stock for me was incorrect, because they didn't have it in stock. To make matters worse, the employee suggested that I must have called the wrong MS number. So, that's 2 hours of my time and $40 worth of car fare for nothing. Meanwhile, B&H has the item in stock and I'll be picking it up when then reopen on Sunday. I will not be doing business with the NYC Microsoft Store again. The next time a customer calls them wanting to spend $3300 on one of their products, they might want to put a little more care into how they treat them. read more

Was looking to try out the popular game Fortnite on different devices and looking to see which device I wanted to buy. However, one of the employees came up and said that "fortnite wasn't allowed" in the store, and continued to UNINSTALL the game from the device. Why have the game on every xbox and PC if it isn't allowed. The store has demos so you can try the devices. Disappointed that I couldn't play the game I wanted to play. read more

I have been to many Microsoft Store Locations and I was extremely excited to get to see this flagship location. I walked in and was greeted and asked if I needed help which was great. As I walked through the 3 floors that were open (of 7 which is advertised verbally as you walk in) there was a lack of interaction and excitement. The 3rd floor game floor was visually amazing and when I asked I got help. I asked the 1st floor how I can see the Microsoft Gaming Studio and was told they do store tours every hour on the hour. So I waited..... I came back for my tour and I was informed that the other floors (besides the first 3) were not "activated today" and I couldn't get the tour that I was told I could get that I waited around for. Not a horrible experience but definitely not the Microsoft Experience I was expecting from prior store experience. Kinda lame. I guess they have the B team on week days.. read more

This was probably one of the best finds that my boys and I experienced in NYC. We stumbled upon this store on Monday morning at around 10:30am. We have never been in a microsoft store before and just went in because my son wanted to check out the driving experience (Porsche xbox game) in the window. After both boys demoing it, the sales guy suggested that we check out the 3rd floor...we had no idea what to expect. We rolled up there and found a huge gaming area. About 10 gaming stations were set up along with other things. All free of charge. The boys sat down and immediately began playing. My son noticed an elevator that said "holo lens" on the 6 floor...he had heard about it. I inquired with the attendant what that was...he suggested that I signed up downstairs for a "tour" on the hour...I had no idea what that was but I was introduced to Calvin and he proceeded to register us for the VIP tour (once again, free of charge). At 11am, Calvin proceeded to give my boys and I an awesome tour of the whole microsoft store. He explained everything in detail. We felt really special to be able to go to the e-arena on the 5th floor and see where the gamers have their tournaments. We got to sit the seat and truly experience the whole thing. Then we went to the 6th floor and was give a special demo of the Holo lens. He really took the time to let us try them on and experience it. We ended with the Imax demo. The tour lasted 45 mins and this was by far my boys' favorite experience in NYC. I really appreciate Microsoft for having such a tour for the common folks. read more

My friend and I woke up this morning and made plans to buy a surface lap top from the Microsoft store at 677 5 ave today. As I walked in there were 8 Microsoft helpers right in the front by the laptops. Not one of them greeted me or said how can I help you. I walked around the entire store looking at laptops testing them out and typing on the computers and still, no one acknowledged me. My friend and I were figuring things out on our own when finally a young man in a yellow shirt came over. Two minutes later a white couple walks in. All the helpers were falling over themselves to say hello and ask if they needed help. We immediately got offended. We said to the helper in the yellow shirt, why weren't we greeted or even asked if we needed help like they are. Is it because we aren't the right shade of white? As you may have guessed we are Black. The helper tripped all over his words trying to say that at least he is over here now. Unacceptable behavior from Microsoft workers! The white couple only came in to play on the game in the corner and left. We however were actually going to spend a few thousand dollars today. I don't want to spend money with companies with prejudice, incompetent workers. I pass. I decided not to buy from Microsoft. I went to the Apple store and purchased 2 laptops and a desk top. read more
