Tricking people by using the name Sam

BEWARE!!! BEWARE!!! BEWARE!!! These guys are crooks and thieves. They claim to be Sam's Auto because Sam has established his reputation so they steal their customers. They even went as far as putting "Sam" outside their body shop. They pulled us over on our way to Sam's Auto and tried to tell us they were Sam. Then they told us to pay a deposit so we would get STUCK using with their terrible service. These guys are NOT LEGIT. Save yourself the surprise later and do not get suckered into their business scam. They copied Sam's Autos colors on their paint colors too so that they can steal his customers who does that?! So STAY AWAY from this place - you can thank me later.

Fake auto shop posing as another to get business

I had the worst experience here. Had to call the police to get my car back! . My insurance company referred. Me to a near by auto shop. I came to this location on accident and asked if they were it. A man stepped out and said that he was Sam and it was his shop saying he knew about my insurance claim and was expecting me. Clearly lying to my face with no remorse. After dropping off my car and filling out the paperwork I followed up with the insurance company. They called me back Mid day saying they reached out to the auto shop and my car was never received. I was panicked and had to step away from my desk so I can give the insurance shop a call , they too confirmed the car was not dropped off at the location. I ended up leaving work going to the location where I dropped off my car and on arrival found my car taken apart. The bumper on the floor all the screws and housing taken off. I asked them what they were doing and the "owner" said he opened up the car so the insurance company can come see it. After speaking to my insurance and looking up information online I found out this was not the location I was supposed to go to and the owner just lied to me so he could get my car in the door. Shady mechanics, now I know why people have a hard time trusting auto shops. I was furious and fought with them quite a bit before they agreed to put my car back together so I could drive it out. The man wanted to charge me for labor and 2 days worth of storage for the "work and time" he put in. I told him I am not paying anything since he lied about who he was and baited me into leaving my car. He wouldn't budge until I called the police. , finally getting my car back I drove to another auto shop to make sure all my pieces were put on properly.

    Honest and reliable service!

I just got my car back from mid America body shop and I couldn't be happier with their service. My car looks like it's brand new. I'd recommend these guys to anybody looking to have some repairs on their car. The pit match is absolutely perfect. I tried to take it to another body shop and they cried about how hard it was going to be to color match my paint color. I got my car back in 2 days. I took it to two other body shops that wanted ridiculous prices. These guts are fair and honest. Ask for Sam who is the general manager of the place.

What kind of paint do you use? My paint started chipping after I got into an accident.

@ Maria, it is an extremely cheap paint. I has a similar issue. My 14 year old Son was sitting at the opening of the trunk, on leg up putting on his shoes , when he hopped off we noticed the bumper paint was cracked. ='(

Sam, the mechanic who helped me, was incredibly kind and even referred me to someone who could fix the issue.

If you're looking for a mechanic you can actually trust, stop searching and go straight to Golf…read moreCrawford Auto Service. Chris and his team are hands-down the best in the business. From the moment you walk in, you can tell this isn't your typical auto shop. They take the time to explain everything clearly, tell you what actually needs to be done (and what doesn't), and treat you like a person--not just another ticket. What really sets them apart is their honesty and consistency. You never feel upsold, pressured, or in the dark. Just straightforward, high-quality work at fair prices--every single time. And somehow, they always find a way to come through when you need them most, even when they're busy. They've been a trusted name in the Evanston area for decades, and it shows in the way they operate and the loyalty they've built with customers. Chris runs an incredible shop, and his team reflects that standard across the board--professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely good people. It's rare to find a place like this. Once you go to Crawford Golf Auto, you won't go anywhere else.

Our first time there and we went based on other peoples rave reviews. He took it on a test drive and thoroughly checked pads, etc. He told us we should do nothing right now - we have at least 6000 miles left. Given the way we drive that's another year. It's heartening to know there are still honest mechanics and he's a really nice guy besides. We had him change our oil!

I have always been a believer that honest mechanics are few and far between. I moved to Evanston…read morerecently and have been in need of a mechanic because of a loud noise when accelerating and tires were worn down. I spoke to a few shops and went to Sam's because of the discussion we had and how respectful Mo was. I ended up paying a fraction (literally 10%) of what a couple other shops had estimated for me. On top of that, he worked with me to work around my schedule. As long as I live in Evanston (or are nearby), I will be going to Sam's to see Mo and team. (Posted this on Google Reviews as well because how much I appreciate the shop!).

I took my car to this shop after my airbag was stolen because they were one of the few places open…read moreon a Saturday that claimed they could handle the repair. They had decent reviews online, so I gave them a chance. Unfortunately, this turned into one of the worst repair experiences I've ever had. Right away, Sunny tried convincing me to include unrelated scratches and dents in the insurance claim and suggested I tell insurance they were caused by the vandalism. I refused and only authorized repairs related to the theft. The shop has signs everywhere about $175/day storage fees. When I specifically asked about them at drop-off, I was told no storage fees would apply because my car was being repaired. That turned out to be false. What they don't clearly tell you is that they may start charging storage fees while waiting for parts, even when delays are outside your control. In my case, they knew from day one that airbags were on backorder due to widespread thefts and recalls. Despite that, they later claimed they "had no idea" parts would take so long and suddenly tried billing over $4,000 in storage fees. At no point did they notify me that storage charges had started accumulating. I only found out after they tried billing my insurance company. When insurance refused to pay, the shop told me I would have to pay and "maybe" get reimbursed later. Communication was terrible throughout the process. I constantly had to chase them for updates through ignored texts and repeated phone calls. I dealt mostly with Sunny and AJ, but neither seemed to know the full status of my repairs. The final straw was when they claimed my car needed dealership recalibration after the airbag replacement because dashboard warning lights were on. They insisted this was absolutely necessary and said the dealership quote was around $1,250. They even texted me saying my car had already been dropped off at the dealership. Three days later, after I followed up again, I learned they had never actually taken the car there. Suddenly the quote had "changed" and they were supposedly calling around for better prices. None of this was communicated proactively. At that point, I picked up my car because I no longer trusted them. They tried hard to convince me not to take it, saying the vehicle was unsafe to drive because of the warning lights. They also refused to release the car unless I paid several days of storage fees. Ironically, less than five minutes after leaving the shop, every warning light on my dashboard turned off. I then contacted multiple dealerships myself and physically brought the car to two. Every dealership told me the airbag module did NOT need recalibration. So this shop was attempting to keep my car longer and push insurance to approve a repair that apparently wasn't even necessary. To make matters worse, the detailing work my insurance paid for was sloppy. There was still glass inside the vehicle after pickup, and they tried charging insurance to replace an interior door panel for "water staining" instead of simply cleaning it. I cleaned it myself. Bottom line: avoid this shop if you value transparency, communication, or honesty. My experience involved constant delays, poor communication, and threats of excessive storage fees while they tried to maximize insurance payouts.
