Julian and Desiree are the best. They are soooooo knowledgable about designers and the history of the furniture they have in their store. They take their time with you, answer all of your questions (I tend to have too many questions because I am blown away by their inventory and want to know everything- what kind of wood is this? when was it built? is this a famous designer? blah blah blah... you get the picture). Beautiful, most amazing Danish (mostly) furniture - seating, credenzas, couches, vanities, coffee tables, desks, lamps, and a few incredible Italian and British pieces too! I love coming in here and seeing the goods! They get new shipments in all the time and some incredible pieces go on sale - they also keep their online website really up to date (I go on there all the time to scope it out). I will be back! I bought ten Arne Vodder Danish Modern chairs from the early 60s from Mid Century Mobler. They reworked and refinished the chairs to absolute perfection. They handled having them recovered in beautiful leather. These chairs now look like they came out of a 1960 time capsule. They delivered them in perfect shape to my door. The quality of the pieces and the level of service here is top-notch. After finding a 3-drawer dresser I liked online about 5 minutes before they closed for the day, I called in and Jason offered to hold it for me till the next afternoon. When I came in, they had a bunch more pieces to choose from from a delivery that had just arrived, and they were super helpful while I mulled around and ultimately chose one of these new pieces. They were also very accommodating to a weird delivery request, and did an amazing job refinishing the piece before I took ultimate delivery. Wow, wow, wow. First, if you're into MCM, and the hubby and I certainly are, this place is as close to Mecca as you can get. Racks and rows of beautiful finds to complement your MCM decor. Julian and his team travel the world to find these gems and bring them back - it's more than worth the trip from Sacramento for us. We had the great good fortune to come across a set of 4 Pantone Cone Chairs on our last visit. Not only did Jason EXPERTLY reupholster them, but Julian found a fifth on a recent trip and is scouting a 6th for us to complete the set. These chairs are breathtaking. Everyone comments on the perfect re-upholstery work, too. We also purchased a walnut credenza that will be re-purposed to a bathroom vanity. Because we are going to put sinks on top, we told them not to bother with refinishing before delivery. But they did anyway, and their generous gesture turned an already-beautiful piece into an amazing piece of furniture. They delivered all of this straight to our door 90 miles away, they kept us in communication the whole time, and they're just a delight to work with. I worked mostly with Julian (who co-owns the store with his wife) and also worked with Jason. Julian was extremely attentive, informed, and enthusiastic about the pieces in the shop. He was patient as my wife and I ogled all of the amazing furniture in the shop over and over. I got the sense that he really cares about his work and just wants to share his enthusiasm with others. All of the pieces are sourced by Julian and his wife (whom I didn't meet) and they ship them from Italy, Denmark, Norway, Scotland, England etc. to Berkeley. The credenza (low sideboard) we picked out needed some minor work done to refinish the top. When it arrived it had some drips from the finish down the side and on the front. Jason immediately responded by offering to take it back and clean it up for us. Apparently the light in my apartment revealed more than what was visible in the workshop--something that should be remedied! However, they re-delivered it the same day so I really can't complain. I had been on the hunt for a vintage, heirloom quality credenza for several months, and not just any credenza would do. We had certain space requirements and I desired one that was solid and in superb condition. Weathered and worn teak need not apply. After scouting stores, pickers, and markets all over the Bay Area we paid a visit to Mid Century Mobler and I was very impressed with their selection, knowledge, and the outstanding customer service. Desiree is warm and approachable and her depth of knowledge goes beyond know what wood was used in a given piece. We found the perfect credenza for our little space; for being almost 60 years old, it was in near perfect condition and the rosewood is simply stunning. While the price was a bit high, I knew that if I passed it up I would forever compare all other credenzas to this one. White glove delivery was included (thanks, Patrick!) and the level of the service - from step one through the front door to walking out with a receipt in my hand - was amazing. read more

If you have a love of mid century modern furniture, this place engulfs you in glorious inventory! Each and every piece is top quality, and the selection can't be beat. They had everything we wanted. The most difficult part of the experience was stopping! Setting up delivery with Jason couldn't have been easier. He was super communicative and made the whole process painless. And when he showed up with our furniture so carefully packed in their delivery van, it looked even more fantastic than it did in the store. We're obsessed with Mid Century Mobler at my house. We started shopping with them back in like 2015/2016, I want to say. Their showroom is clean and easy to navigate. Everything is well displayed, and all you need to do is ask if you'd like to see something more closely or be shown all its features. Everyone that has helped me there has also been a wiz at the history and uniqueness of each piece we've inquired about. So shopping there can even be educational! They offer a variety of mint condition as well as well loved and ready to be either just re-homed or fully revived. I admit I love that they're branching out to newer high-end pieces, but haven't fallen for any of those items myself... yet. They have an excellent online presence so you can shop them on Insta as well as their website, but nothing is quite like going in and chatting with Julian and Desiree. We've gotten some amazing pieces from them, a corner bar unit, entry way planter table, two rosewood planters, a leather magazine rack, the best record cabinet and most recently our crowning purchase (though the bar is everything!) a newly restored elevator table. This is a much overdue review for Julian and his team at Midcentury Mobler. Julian is so knowledgeable and helpful. I wandered into his store recently relocated to Berkeley in December 2015 looking for a credenza/buffet. Julian helped me find a gorgeous rosewood by A. H. McIntosh. His team lovingly finished it, and it looks fabulous. We also found an amazing wardrobe, also in rosewood, that is modular and somewhat reminiscent of IKEA, although much better quality. Julian and his colleague delivered both items, including reassembling the wardrobe. I will definitely be a returning customer, and highly recommend this business. Mid-Century Møbler has developed quite a reputation in the Bay area and beyond (I've met furniture store owners in Oregon who shop with them) for hard-to-find mid-century and Danish pieces. Their move to a larger space in Berkeley provides a much improved shopping experience. The space better showcases the extent of their collection, which they often refresh with compelling new finds from their trips to Copenhagen. The quality and breadth of their collection aside, what really struck me about my shopping experience was the service. Jason is incredibly knowledgeable and very friendly. I learned a lot from him as he took me from piece to piece explaining the craftsmanship, history and providing very honest assessments of his collection. After walking around the store and learning about the pieces with Jason, I was better able to articulate what I was looking for and he found something that was perfect for me. Jason was also very flexible, allowing me to put the piece on hold for a week (with a deposit) as I made a final decision. I never felt rushed and when I did purchase, he happily accommodated my schedule for delivery. I spent many weeks shopping around the Bay area and online looking for furniture but never found anything as appealing as the pieces at Mid-Century. It has now been a couple of weeks since I made my purchase and I feel excellent about my new furniture. Not only am I thrilled with the piece but also with my experience at Mid-Century. We had a great experience. We were looking for a wing back chair that wasn't huge, and found a really lovely period 1040s chair with original upholstery (somewhat ripped and tattered) at Mid Century Møbler. Both Desiree and Julian helped us evaluate it and all of came collaboratively to the idea that it would be great to save the upholstery, saving us the money for reupholstering but also it would be impossible to find similar fabric today. Basically they worked with us to save the chair in its original condition. Of course it looks used, but the rips are fixed, the pilling is fixed, and the chair looks kind of fantastic. I have been coming to this store for a pretty long time, always admiring the beautiful mid-century furniture. The selection is pretty good. I never felt pushed to buy anything and always felt welcomed to just browse and ask questions and chat about the furniture. Well, at last, I found the perfect credenza--an English G-Plan. They finished it exactly like I wanted it, even re-staining some parts to make it perfect. Delivery was free and when they arrived they made sure I was happy with it before bringing it in. It's a shame I can only give Mobler 5 stars! Julian and company flat out rock! I was in a fever to score a writers desk a few weeks ago, and discovered Julians old space in San Francisco mere days before their move to Berkeley. I had spent a few long, intense days hunting down a desk for our condo and saw a ton of great pieces and selection all over the Bay Area, mostly around the Mission in SF. I saved my journey to MCMObler for last, and I was simply blown away!! Moblers selection is staggering, simply awesome! They have, by far and away, the best inventory in the Bay Area. I saw some pieces that I literally salivated over, and the inventory just goes on and on and on. ALL of the furniture that I saw was in great shape, Julian and his staff do a great job of preparing and refurbishing the pieces, all of the inventory just glistens in the store! I finally pared down my wish list to about six pieces. Believe me, whatever piece you happen to be looking for, Julian probably has three of them. I was in the shop for about 2 hours and Julian walked me through the inventory very patiently and was a tremendous help! Julian could not have been nicer and was super patient with my thousands of questions. He really loves his business, and was very helpful and informative! I purchased my secretary desk right around the weekend that he and his staff were loading up multiple moving vans and schlepping everything over to Berkeley. He and his staff must have been swamped and exhausted, but he was great in sending me updates and all of the information that I needed via email. His attention and care about my order was fantastic, especially considering I caught them during 'hell week' of moving! Jason (?) and Thomas delivered my piece a few days later! They could not have been more pleasant and helpful, and I was all set up in a matter of 2 days after falling in love with half of the stuff in the store. They even threw in a complimentary bottle of wood polish so that I can keep my secretary desk looking brand new for decades to come! In sum, this place is simply magical. KILLER inventory, Julians service and attention to this customer was great, and he even had an old Olympia typewriter to bang on to test out the secretary desk that I brought. Julian could not have been friendlier or more helpful!! If you love Mid Century Scandinavian furniture, this is THE MUST SEE shop in the Bay Area!
