In short, you pay a lot of money for quality and you get an abysmal product. I ordered my other kid from another vendor, same European Linen and it has lasted for 3 years with no sign of thread baring or wearing out. So this place is really like a hidden treasure! My husband and I stumbled into this place looking for a specific book shelf. We have been in the hunt for a ladder book shelf for weeks now and wanting to see it in person we didn't want to order it on Amazon! We were pleasantly surprised when we came into CB2! This is a first for me dear readers. I have never, repeat NEVER given a one star rating and it pains me now to do so. In this case, however, the rating is justified. The issue stems from trying to obtain a replacement part for a platform bed that was previously purchased from CB2. Crate and Barrel refused to help source or replace the parts because according to them "the useful life of the product (a platform bed) is over, and it is not their responsibility." Really after eight years - how pathetic! Equally awful is the manufacturer won't provide the dimensions for the one part for fear of losing their propriety information. Again, the Crate and Barrel customer service team felt this is justified. So I ask is this the kind of supplier you would source your products from? Finally, and this is laughable - as a "loyal customer" they offered me 10 percent discount off the full price of the replacement bed even though it is on sale for 20 percent off. Talk about clueless. So my friends and readers - there are lots of places to choose from to spend your hard earned resources - buyer beware! read more

The lady have a pretty good run down of all the different sets of furniture. She even put together a couple of swatches for us Togo. I think it's important to buy from the store, or call back the associate that helped because as she mentioned, they wouldn't want to lose this physical location. This location is on my favorite street in Berkeley. I've spent many years frequenting the restaurants and seeing 4th street evolve. But one thing remains, this location has some of the rudest staff, they never greet you on arrival or interact with you as you are amongst the store. It's dead inside this store; zero enthusiasm with customers which honestly makes you not want to buy anything. When you initiate conversation or ask a question, the responses are flat and don't feel welcoming. I went into the store today, same vibe- no acknowledgment that you're in the store, not a single greeting from a single employee. With the closure of the San Francisco location and challenges for retail as a whole in The Bay, you would think that there would be some sense of care or simple customer service. The rest of the block is super nice and welcoming, always helpful- this location is not, nor has it ever been. Be warned if you go in. They are not helpful or friendly at all here. read more

My wife and I recently purchased a new set of dining ware (plates and bowls) and went to CB2 because we felt they'd be good quality. The staff were pretty helpful in answering questions and when we made the purchase they wrapped the stuff up in paper to help ensure it'll survive transport. Let's keep it real, CB2 stuff is probably more expensive than Ikea, but we felt it was pretty good quality. The dishes we got also are dishwasher safe. I'm not guaranteeing they won't chip, crack or break as dishes do overtime, but we were happy with our purchase. read more

So check this out, we got there, and then we text messaged the number first, and after 11 seconds of no response (there won't be one, FYE), we decided to call the number. The gentleman on the phone had a very soothing voice, kinda like when a british person reads you your favourite story to fall asleep. Magical. He informed us that he would send someone out there to help us. As we were talking, someone started coming out, which I assume was from the texting messaging. Bought a bed here in Jan' 2021. It broke in Sept. Of 2022. They ordered a replacement and i received it in feb. os 2023. The new bed broke again today, June of 2024. Since they've already replaced my bed, they can't do anything for me now. I'm a single guy who weights around 210 lbs. this bed get very normal use. This store has cool looking pieces and good prices, but based on my experience , do not count on any of the pieces to last more than 1.5 years. I used to hate this store because it was the sister store of the outlet across the street, which was my go to spot for dishes, glasses, and cookware. My husband likes to come here and bring interesting things home. But I love that they have a nice place for me to sit while he shops. He does come home with nice pieces, but they are quite pricey compared to the outlet that was across the street. The other stuff is way too pricey. I'm a fan of CB2. Their Berkeley location has most of their goods in stock, which is helpful. My biggest gripe is that CB2 rarely has sales, making those who like to save a buck wait it out or just buy it full price. They also very rarely have free shipping available on larger items and so on. CB2 has an incredible collection of mid-century modern, yet classically sophisticated. From couches, to bedroom sets to outdoor furniture; I pretty much want everything. I recently just purchased some outdoor dining chairs from their Memorial day sale. They ended up being fairly inexpensive on sale for the price, super chic, modern and comfy. To avoid delivery charges, as they only had a few in stock, I was able to order to the store so I can pick it up there. I also found an online only fire pit I wanted to buy, and they let me order it to the store to avoid those shipping costs! I have yet to have to return anything, but so far the purchasing process has been easy, I love the design and I find that items are well made. read more

Oftentimes at furniture stores, employees start aggressively asking you for specifics even though you might have just wanted to casually browse and get some inspo. I stopped by on a weekday to just browse a bit before picking up my online order at the register, and it felt very nonjudgmental. Went looking for planters - they have a good selection of modern planters that can easily go with any interiors decor . However when I went to purchase it in store , the sales said there was none in stock and hence ordered it to be shipped to me . However to my surprise , shipping was charged to me without letting me know . The customer service did refund to me upon request but I think as a good practice , stores should inform customers if there is a shipping charge for items that they no longer have stock in the store . Either that, or it's for people who really like cheap stuff that reflects the taste of someone who probably thought "Friends" and "Melrose Place" reflected cutting-edge television. In our current economic malaise, I wonder why Crate & Barrel felt a need to have this expansive store opposite their outlet in the 4th Street shopping corridor. It also saddens me that CB2 replaced Cody's Books, which symbolizes how blatant materialism has replaced literary enrichment in the increasing intellectual vacuum of our society. Granted Cody's also sold Danielle Steele and greeting cards, but still, what am I going to do with a set of fluorescent blue martini glasses (see photos)? Well first I love CB2 as a brand, their style is unmatched and customer service is great. My issue is I live in Sacramento and so the drive is long as so paying shipping adds up vs if they had a location nearby. I was in Berkeley to escape the heat tho and wanted to take advantage of free shipping on many non large furniture items (although ironically the next week they offered free shipping on orders over $99 for everything I went in to buy). This location is large, the space seems to allow them to carry more inventory than San Jose (which is also a great store but feels smaller). Best of all I was with my dog and could bring him in and the staff even had treats for him. It was my first time getting away for a long time and needed him with me and they were so accommodating, friendly, and so helpful and patient with us. Their contemporary edgy organic mid century modern style - there's no place like it. It can be expensive but their sales are great and they inspire dupes - that simply don't compare. Save your money and go for just a few nice pieces from them vs cheap imitations that you will trash a week later. Is their furniture "forever furniture"? Sometimes. It depends on the vendor but you know what works well- their review system on their website. If you're not happy use their review system. I've published bad reviews on their site, they respond quickly to fix the issue. And if a product is flawed and many people complain the product is gone quickly. So much of it depends on the vendor. I really enjoyed all my experiences at my local CB2. From ordering plates and silverware, to full blown bedroom and living room furnishings...I have been not just happy with their style of home furnishings/decor, but blown away by their incredible service! I want to highlight my experience with Sharon and Sidney. They both patiently helped me with obtaining information on the products and recommendations when I asked for their advice. They were pleasant to work with, and were both very sweet to my 6yr old kiddo who shopped with me. I also want to highlight Del, her patience with listening to my concerns for an item of furniture that I saw in picture but didn't love when it was delivered...she took totally customer care and helped me solve the problem. We had a rug that took very long to come in due to supply chain issues that had nothing to do with the stores fault. It finally came in and it was too large. I brought it back and ordered a smaller rug of the same style. That was also back ordered and it was looking like it was gonna take longer and longer. I called the store and they were incredibly helpful. They called around and were able to find a store in Scottsdale Arizona that had it in stock and had it shipped directly to me. I ordered a couch last October 2020 online. The order said expected delivery mid-december. The store took my money 1282.48 for the purchase. Late December, I kept receiving emails saying because of Covid and warehouse issues the couch expected delivery two weeks later. By End of January, I called customer service and they said they could not give me a delivery date. I cancelled my order. Walked into the store for an online order. Okay, so we may look younger than your normal crowd here, and "underdressed", but I sure do hate it when I walk into a store feeling like I've done something wrong. I purchased my items online, so that shouldn't have even been the case. My boyfriend and I walked in and just wanted to pick up my online order. There were 3 of them at the counter... no "welcome in, how can I help you?" Instead, we just got pushed away to some old lady behind the counter who grabbed my box.. as I approached and she handed me the box, I kindly asked her where the gift receipt was, she scoffed and made it seem as if I was in the wrong and responded "It's already in the box." Then ushered her non-busy self back to the counter talking who knows what to the other two employees. Yeah, I'm going to check the quality of the product that I ordered before I even send it off as a wedding gift. Considering the rudeness of the people and treatment that made us feel like "little kids", as well as their thrift shop looking furniture, idk what to expect from this. I came into the CB2 building yesterday and for the first time since it Cody's Books closed. As I wandered around, I took mental note of where the counters and certain sections used to be and how things had changed. My immediate impression was that among all the new and shiny store accents and offerings, this building had lost many of it's nice touches (especially the woods, the airy feel, and the meandering layout) and perhaps its soul. Crate and Barrel has done a good job with this "modern and affordable" concept. The merchandise is "hip" and displayed well, and the various staff members were very friendly and eager to help. At the same time, this place is just not my style and after awhile, the overwhelming orange colors (a red flag to a Texas Aggie like me) just became too much to tolerate. Super disappointed with my last experience here. I've been shopping here for years and have spent a ton for myself, gifts and also for photoshoots for various projects that I work on. I regret not having written a positive review in the past b/c I've always kept coming back because they have great design, provide fun inspiration and have nice products. But an associate made me feel so bad the other day. I tried to return a pitcher here that was actually a gift purchased from Crate and Barrel. I SIRI'ed the return policy for Crate and Barrel which read that you couldn't return to the outlet, but I misunderstood thinking that I could return to CB2 [entirely my fault for misunderstanding.] I think part of my confusion was b/c due to a lawsuit, I received a 20% off coupon for use at any CB or CB2 store ... the coupon explicitly stated that I could use it at ANY of their brands so I must have made assumptions about the return policy as well. Anyway, when I tried to return the pitcher to CB2, the response from the associate was "I've never seen this in the store." and when I asked if I could return it, his condescending response was "absolutely not. Do you try to return old navy at Banana Republic?". I was so taken back by the sheer rudeness, for a moment I actually thought he was joking. What happened to "I'm so sorry, but we do manage these brands separately, so unfortunately you won't be able to return it here." I've worked in corporate retail (merchandising, planning, inventory, distribution, omni-channel commerce, marketing and more) for 15+ years and have done my share of comp shopping, returns analysis, store set up, customer service call reviews etc - so I'm no stranger to retail and all the backend systems ... I personally don't have a problem with the policy that I can't return CB to CB2, but I was genuinely appalled by how I was spoken to and treated as if I'm stupid for even asking the question. CB2 is like the Crate & Barrel's hip little sister. Most furniture has a minimalist, mid-century modern aesthetic. The furniture is more expensive than IKEA but cheaper than Crate & Barrel. A nice middle ground for those younger people who don't want the same IKEA furniture as everyone else. I picked up dining chairs ($149) and stools ($129) here. The dinnerware is pretty affordable, but the selection is not as vast as Crate & Barrel. CB2 is one of my favorite stores to browse and I definitely prefer this location over the one in SF. The SF one is bigger, but the staff is much friendlier and helpful here. There is a private lot attached to the store, and I've been here three Saturdays in a row (new apartment) with no problems with parking. I docked a star because I wanted to see a dining table from the newest catalog in person and they said they didn't have room for it. Although they offered to call the SF location to see if it was on their showroom floor, I didn't want to go across the bridge just to look at a table I wasn't completely set on purchasing. read more

This 5 star review is only for Florence who is the manager of this CB2 location and someone who's been with the company for I believe for 15 years. My fiancé and I purchased a table and were originally suppose to receive it the 2nd week of August... we moved into our new place on August 1st. I understand with Covid-19 you can expect delays and push backs but what we experienced was a total nightmare. I kept going back and forth with customer service and CB2 to find out when we were going to get our table... I wasn't getting anywhere. I then called CB2 Berkeley and got in touch with Florence... she was able to get us a loaner table delivered to us on September 21st until we would be actually getting our table that we purchased. The next few months we continued getting delays and then come November when our table was finally ready to be delivered to our new place the table was cracked and damaged which was going to result waiting for a new table and not knowing when we would be able to get it. I've literally kept in contact with Florence through phone or email at least 2x a week. Even when Florence was out sick she was in constant communication to try to make things right for us. It was so frustrating and just a complete let down but how Florence handled everything being that this issue wasn't even her fault she was just trying to do everything she could to help us as this was an online order through CB2... finally we were able to come up with a resolution that was going to make everything right and everyone happy and I'm happy to say that this past Saturday we got our brand new table with 0 damage at our place! We could've easily just returned and canceled everything but we really wanted this table for our place and if it wasn't for how Florence handled everything we definitely would've gone elsewhere. Florence is the perfect example of how any manager or employee should lead/work across any line of business out there... I wish we had more people like her who treat their company like it's their company and their money. She should be leading more employees at CB2 both at the retail and online level... if it wasn't for Florence this would've been an ever bigger disaster. Came to the store to pick up an online purchase around 12:30 pm on Monday 5/3/2021. Service was inept. There was one guy helping another (large looking) guy on the floor and took a good 5 minutes before acknowledging my presence/waiting for help. So I asked him if there was someone else who can help me. He said someone at the check register area should be there. There was no one at the check registers when we came in. As it turns out there was a woman almost hidden behind the counter as clearly I didn't see her. She also seemed overwhelmed by someone on the the phone. And did not thank me for my purchase which I clearly expect especially given how much money I spend on this retailer. In any case I will not likely come back to this store for a while or lower my expectations about good customer service. I purchase a lot from CB2 online and it will likely stay that way.
