Nice store and nice pieces. We were looking for a record shelf so we purchased a beautiful large wall unit. We decided to add the fee to have it refinished and there was a little bit of electrical work to be done for a light in the bar unit. We received the shelf in the estimated time but when I got home and inspected the piece there was a quarter sized blob in the new finish where the stain ran. I reached out to the owner and he offered to send some wood moisturizer that was supposed to be included at delivery anyway. The feed n wax did nothing to resolve the stain blob. He offered to pick it up and redo that area but we already waited almost 8 weeks for the shelf so that would be a big inconvenience to wait some more. The refinish job was $665. Seems fair if they do a good job. They also charge sales tax on the refinish which I think should be labor and non taxable. Maybe I'm wrong but at my business we do not charge tax on labor. 7 hours at $95/hour sounds like labor. The other thing that sucks is that about a week after we had it I realized the light inside the bar should turn off when you close the door. There is a little sensor that is supposed to push in when you close the door and that does not make the connection so the light was never turning off. It was so hot and melted some of our records before we figured it out! Good thing it didn't burn the house down! Now we have to manually screw and unscrew the lightbulb when we want it on or off. Pretty lame for the hefty price tag. Beautiful shelf but I recommend electrical and refinish be done elsewhere. read more

One of the best sources for Danish and American mid century furniture. Julian, one of the owners is extremely knowledgeable and helpful providing the history and provenance of each piece in their showroom. Let's also mention their showroom in Berkeley, it's quite large and full of wonderful pieces from around the world. Their website is also one of the more modern sites for retailers in this category. If you happen to be in the east bay, you must stop by their showroom. Be prepared to spend at least an hour to explore the treasures. I stopped in purely by chance and walked out with two wonderful floor lamps. Yep, it's that kind of place. Go in without purpose, walk out with a great addition to your dwelling. It's not cheap, but the prices are reasonable for well curated, well finished midcentury furniture. As others have mentioned, the salespeople are knowledgable and not pushy. A great shopping experience. They also have a collection of new furniture (we bought one of their sofas). This allows you to choose fabric material, etc... The style is interesting - I'd call it midcentury inspired. If you have any interest in midcentury furniture, then you need to at least go and browse. I legit want to buy everything in this store. You feel like you're on the set of Mad Men or the Brady Bunch. The best thing about his place is it's all REAL midcentury modern! Original or vintage or whatever you want to call it. When we walked in all of the pieces looked so nice I thought they were newly built! But it's not! Julian and his wife fly to Denmark and other parts of Europe to browse estate sales, bring the pieces back, and restore them as needed. So badass. If you like midcentury modern, this is the place to go. So much better than buying from big box retailers like West Elm or CB2 because you are getting the original and supporting a local business!!! It is a little pricey but reasonable for the quality and work that has been put into them. Most pieces are over $1k, dining tables $2-3k, chairs and sofas also $2-3k or above. They also offer free delivery all over the US??!! Insane. And we have our delivery scheduled for our South Bay location after the piece we picked out gets cleaned. We finally bought something here. Alan's Stressless recliner was no longer comfortable for him or easy to get out of. We looked for alternative chairs and found the perfect one here, an Arne Vodder lounge chair in rosewood and green leather that had once been part of a set gracing a conference room in Denmark. There were two left in the store. It's graceful and beautiful, but most important, it is comfortable for him. One button was missing. They performed a light restoration to it, including replacing the missing button, cleaning the leather, polishing the frame, and making sure all joinery is tight. It was sent to the upholsterers and was picked up this week. Desiree kept us posted during the process and we arranged for the chair to be delivered between 11 and 12 this morning. In the middle of that window it was delivered, just beating the rain that was predicted. It looks gorgeous and Alan is sitting in it now. read more

This is truly one-stop shopping for midcentury furniture. The passionate owners make several trips to Scandinavia and the UK each year to source furniture. Their shop/warehouse is a very well organized treasure trove. Julian, who manages sales, grew up with midcentury furniture and can tell you the pedigree of any piece in the shop. Most of the furniture is in "as found" condition and just needs some professional attention to bring it back to glory. The advantage of this system is that the customer gets to decide on finishing details before the work is done. We bought a glass-topped coffee table that was perfect for our space. We were a little hesitant because it had some damage that concerned us. Though they did not over-promise, Julian and Desiree, who manages operations and restoration, thought it was a solvable problem. We brought in a chair that's in the same room as the table so that the refinisher could coordinate the shade of stain that was used. When the table was delivered--sooner than originally estimated--we couldn't find the problem spot! It's a truly beautiful job. Beautiful furniture, knowledgeable and charming owners who "under-promise and over-deliver." What could be better? We'll never buy from auction sites again. read more

The warehouse is a mid-century playground- they have so many beautiful items and I can't wait to add to my collection! When Julian came to deliver the chairs, he was so kind and careful. I met Julian when my boyfriend and I were looking for a headboard, back when Julian and his ex-business partner, Gabe, were operating out of a small garage, and back when, to see one piece, fifteen other pieces had to be (delicately!) removed before it. And even back then, in their very early stages, while operating out of that tiny space in Noe Valley or The Castro or wherever it used to be, Mid-Century Mobler had the very best furniture at the very best prices. Is this a bargain basement? No. If you're looking for such, I'm happy to take you on the estate sale-circuit with me, where you can occasionally still find a diamond in the rough. Wow. Service. I mean, seriously. I've been looking for a slatted bench for some time. I was hoping to find a vintage Nelson. However, they are very rarely found in good shape at a reasonable price. Just moved to a cool loft and decided to decorate in mid century modern. I saw 2 chairs (Z chairs) on this site but had some questions. Julian was so responsive and helpful. Once I made my decision, he let me know that production would be started the very next day and within 3 weeks my chairs were complete and sent from California to Kentucky.
