She responded very quickly to my message quickly when I expressed dissatisfaction with my hair afterward, and offered to redo the color but I'd rather wait for my hair to grow out as it's several inches too short and already has layers of color in it. I arrived at 11am for an appointment that my confirmation said would last until 1:30pm and we didn't finish until 4pm. She did my cut first and then did the baby lights- they added nice color and dimension to the hair as desired. But she then did my roots and combed the color through. While my color was processing, someone arrived for a haircut and had their haircut done while my color sat. Around 45 minutes later, my color was washed out and was darker than I expected- most of the baby lights were no longer visible. She mentioned the color will fade to be lighter as expected, but the result was surprising. I also asked for 2 inches or so to be cut, and mentioned I wanted to be able to put my hair in a ponytail still. When facing the mirror, the length was going great and she showed me it could still go in a ponytail. When turned around, I lost several inches for some reason and there was no going back. She took off even more in the back, and I left unable to put my hair in a ponytail. I'm not sure if there was a miscommunication and she thought I wanted the grow out to be able to be in a ponytail, but I don't think so since she initially showed me she could put it in a ponytail. By 4pm I was tired and hungry and ready to get home- she asked if I wanted to see the hair blown out and styled which I did but just wasn't up for given the 5 hours I'd been there so I said no. There was also another person waiting for their 4pm appointment to start. When I did straighten it at home, I was surprised by my hair. I've gotten cuts that suit curly hair on many occasions and have always been able to wear the cuts straight too. This cut when straight appears uneven and choppy. The transition to the short back is awkward. She'd mentioned that at the end she'd go through and do any evening, cutting of long pieces etc needed but by then, as I'd mentioned, someone had shown up for another appointment at 4 and no additional cutting was done. I'm not sure if it was an off day, if my hair just took a few hours longer than expected or if she typically stacks appointments but things seemed rushed between the clients. I've never had someone try to do a whole haircut while dye sits on and I felt like my dye was likely left on too long due to it which resulted in the darker hair and missing baby lights. I've included pictures of my hair before the appointment length wise, what I asked for, and what I got. Given the many positive reviews, I'd say this could be chalked up to an off experience but given the starkly different results I thought it was worth sharing.

My favorite place to go with when it comes to cosmetics and hair. They have a multitude and diversity of products that can leave customers happy. People usually complain about their service and their service leaves me compelled to write this review. However before that, I want to cover the general area. Prices: Fair/Usually cheaper then usual. A lot of the prices compared to your local shops like a Target or even select beauty supplies compete or are even cheaper. There are definitely products that are slightly on the more expensive side, but that's in every business. If anything Mid-K excels in providing cheaper products to appease both company goals/customer needs. Atmosphere: Covers everything. They are very clean and organized while product is spread throughout. Each aisle covers a specific array of product. If you need hair, you know where to go. If you need make-up or eyelashes you know where to look. Some people get lost and can't remember where certain things are (myself included) since they usually keep up to trends and have to move around product to allocate them accordingly. Sometimes there may be times when certain hot items may be gone, but you can always double-check with the nearby employees and they will come back to check. Service: Awesome. I have come here for a multitude of years and never have run into an issue. I always was skeptical after reading through the reviews left on this page. They are all vehement and enthusiastic when it comes to product and making sure the customer leaves (myself included) with everything they need but more. What compelled me to write this review is what I stated earlier. As bizarre as it sounds, I was doing my typical shopping with my girlfriend when an elderly woman had entered the store. She was shopping around while cracking jokes with an abundance of other customers and the owner, when suddenly she begins to...well...urinate. She was sitting down and urinated throughout the floor and I can't even make this up. As it hits the floor, lot of the people were in shock but also understood there was nothing she could do since she was on the older side. However, knowing this when it comes to public restroom usage I don't think many people are willing to be patient; the owner of the store however rushed to make sure it was cleaned while apologizing with a charismatic attitude towards everyone around. She even tried her best to help the people that asked her questions while she was cleaning the urine (hello leave her alone). Well it's a damn shame that this store is the only gig in town! I took my daughter into pick up some hair care products she needed and being licensed in the beauty industry I asked for my 10 % discount as I pulled out my license . I was told only if paid cash could I receive my discount . I was like what ? Excuse me but this is 2018 and most people don't even carry cash. I said that can't be right. The woman at the front acted like the owner wasn't in and I knew damn well he was because his ass was standing there watching my daughter as if she was going to make a five finger discount and I stared back at him and started watching his blue vested ass walk back behind the fake hair counter. The sad thing about this is the people that own this establishment are Asian and they are profiling their clients and it was very obvious to me what was happening . I honestly hope someone else picks up the torch of selling black haircare products in Ptown, so these greedy ass racists have to sit down with all their activator and edge gel till it dries up and so does their profit margin! read more

It is 12/9 why am I standing out in the rain with about 15 people waiting on the sons owner to open up this business that was suppose to be open at 11!!!! It's damn near 11:30!!!! Im freezing and I'm standing here looking at toddlers and babies all waiting to get in!!!!! I'm going to be demanding a discount!!!! This shit is ridiculous. How r u advertising a 11 am start time AND you know good and damn well this is the only beauty supply store open in Portland open Sunday!!! Highly unprofessional!!!!!!!! Now that he's finally here I point blank asked him about a discount and all he could do was laugh. Wtf. What's funny? When I got to the register I asked again about my discount. If it wasn't for the lady standing behind me and demanding her discount as well we most likely wouldn't of gotten it! 10% discount I'll take because it's the principal!!!! Recently moved here from LA and I love it! It's cheaper, has the same quality/quantity and friendly staff! I tried going to Living Color before as its my first day to really explore Portland and I didn't really agree with their business practices...so now I'm here! I went here seeing Asian owners and got a little worried but let me be the first to say I was wrong to stereotyping because of a previous store. They all did excellent and the other employees helped me out tremendously. Tamekia is a great person who really took her time to help me out and even get to know me a little bit! He came and took my inventory which was around $800 worth. He then contacted me and said they were keeping my product and not giving me any credit. I have pictures of the damaged shipment. The product originally came in boxes but in shipping some of the product leaked and all the boxes were ruined. They replaced some of the damaged product and my rep at the time took it. They are saying all this product I owe them because the damaged products weren't returned? So basically they have stolen all my product and refuse to give it back! Beware!!!!!

I was informed it is a 30 day return policy unless open and then it was exchange only, and only if I bought at this location. The outer box itself had been opened, but the products never used. So I was told it was exchange only. During this exchange, the woman was SO SNARKY! All because I asked for a refund, and mentioning i don't use products sold my SS due to how difficult of a drive it is for me to get here. I waited a few, and decided surely there is something I could use, so I looked online and discovered the Dyson Original was on sale for $399, so i called to confirm that was an acceptable exchange and they had it in stock. She told me yes, they have it and they will hold at the front counter with my name on it. I drove 45 minutes for a bait and switch! I get there, and she told me they don't have it, but they have the $500 one, so no worries! But I dont have the difference, so yeah, that won't work. She threw her hands up and said "well I called you, so I did my job". No mam, I have no missed calls or voicemails. I walked around for about 10 minutes, and had someone else follow and watch me the entire time. I felt harassed at this point, so I walked up to the front cou ter, grabbed my box, and left. I called the Beaverton location, explained the entire situation, and she told me if the products inside were untouched, she is more than happy to give me a full refund, even though i purchased at a different location.

I've been looking for a consistent barber for years here near 82nd Ave and this is it. Be aware. No thrills no frills location. Hole in the wall but gets the job done. Don't expect a shot of liqour or a beer. Get a haircut and hold the door closed on the bathroom cause it doesn't close good type of place. Lol. But great cut! I would refer this place for any men's haircut. I can't speak on women's haircut but when my wife gets a cut here, I'll update this review.

Regardless, at the time, haircut was $7 which was a great price for the service. Now, 10 years later, with time, inflation, due to government taxation, etc...price for haircuts is now $10.00. Admittedly, the place isn't the best looking establishment, but I don't go there to sit and stare at the walls and ceiling. However, despite the time and price increase, the same person still cuts and does a wonderful job with my hair. As long as they keep the prices fair and the good service that they do, I'll keep going back. Try it once and decide for yourself. I learned in the military that only difference between a bad haircut and a good haircut is 7 days.
