Chad installed a new operator for our heavy wooden carriage door. Some things you should know: (1) He is reliable. He was responsive when we reported that our original operator was not functioning fully even though he was out on vacation. (2) He is very knowledgeable. He was able to diagnose the problem ("Does your operator not work in the morning but it works fine later in the day?") sight unseen with a couple very quick questions. While I was looking at wall mount and belt operators, he kindly steered us away from those options because they were not an optimal fit for our garage. (3) He is responsive and detail oriented. We had our new operator up and running within 48 hours of his return from vacation. It's super quiet and functions great and between the service and the new operator, we feel we got terrific value and a flawless experience. A well deserved 5 stars. There are a few things I look for in a service company or handyman. Honesty, quality, and promptness. This company (chad) was absolutely a delight to work with. Called in the morning and he was able to show up later in the afternoon with solid honest recommendations. Chad came to our rescue in 2018 when my garage door hinge bolt ripped out and left us unable to close the garage door just as we were packed and ready to leave for a camping trip. Chad rearranged his schedule to get to us quickly. He efficiently fixed the hinge mounting with a gusseted solution that was superior to the original installation and we were able to leave after a short period of time for our vacation. More recently, Chad helped us fix my mom's sectional door after she accidently backed into it. So, I'll let the hipsters race to their keyboards to review the latest $14 martini place. I've reached a point in life where I'm secure enough with my Yelptitude that I can confidently be FIRST TO REVIEW Mid-Valley Garage Door! My garage door opener has been, well, balky for a while. I'd gotten used to it being so loud that it sounded like a coffee grinder amplified to a Spinal Tapian 11. I'd stopped noticing that one spring was broken and decided that I could live with the risk that the other lone spring snapping would lead to the death of a child or poodle thus endangering my 'Father of the Year' award for the 15th consecutive year. I mean, really. If you're crushed in a freak garage door spring snapping incident, it's your time, right? I can't really hold myself responsible for that. But then the damn thing stopped working altogether. Unacceptable. My garage (or as I call it 'that place full of grinding rails, bicycles, Costco toilet paper and oh yeah a 2001 Beetle wedged in one corner") was now inaccessible. So I did what anyone would do. Nothing for about a week. Then I Yelped Garage Door Repair and up popped Mid-Valley Garage Door. I called, the guy set up a time with me for later in the morning. A cheerful guy showed up right on time and with little fanfare, told me I needed a new spring for a number that was less than I had in mind. He then suggested I replace both springs and I thought, here we go. But long story short, the extra spring was only $50 more. So for $200, I got both springs replaced, the unit serviced, some minor wiring repairs and now it's whisper quiet. So quiet that I can now sneak up on my teenage kids when I come home at night. Chad was at my house in a short period of time after I called. After 25 years it was time to replace rather than repair the garage door opener. The job was done quickly with no mess. No call, no show = NO GOOD! I called Mid-Valley Garage Door on a Tuesday to schedule a Saturday repair. Called them back on Thursday to confirm everything was a go for Saturday and they said yes. The appointment window was 10am to 12pm. I had a funny feeling this was going to be a no-show. But I waited anyway. When nobody showed up by 11:45, I called their office and got a voicemail. I left a message, but nobody called back. By 12:30, I was pretty sure nobody was going to show up. So I called another company. They had a technician at my home in less than 2 hours, and my door was repaired by 4pm. Reputation is everythig in the service industry. The worst thing you can do as a business is make an appointment with a customer and fail to show up or call. I have fired employees for doing this. Been putting off dealing with the problem - GARAGE DOOR WON'T OPEN. We live in an old house and the door is over 50 years old and probably weighs 50 tons - the wife says: "Let's buy a new one!" - just like that. Went to Lowe' s and Home Depot - even COSTCO - and the price is hovering around $2500.00. In this economy, we've been told to conserve cash - so I wandered around the good folks of YELP to see if I could find a reputable firm to come out - see what's up - and get an estimate. Called Mid-Valley at 9:10 AM - was told I could have someone there between 10 AM and Noon. Did get a call from Chad about 11:30 AM saying he was running behind but should be there no later than 12:30 PM. Chad arrived at 12:15 PM - looked at the door and told me the spring had broken - gave me a price of $ 210 for parts and $ 80 for labor. Thinking I would need to wait a few days for the parts to arrive - I said: " That's great - go ahead - when will you come back?" Chad replied: "No - I can do it today - I keep these parts on hand." Not only did he do the job in 45 minutes but spent another 25 minutes degreasing the chain/screw - but adjusted the whole mechanism! Door hasn't worked this well in 10 years. Chad says they do new door installations as well - so when we're told to stop conserving cash - going to retire the old door and get us a new one. read more

My garage door wouldn't open so I call to get some helped and they were able to send someone within one day. The person showed up on time and was very pleasant and knowledgeable. He started taking the opener apart and quickly diagnosed the problem was the gear sprocket. He then began working on replacing it for me and while he was doing the work I asked him what the charge would be. He quoted $150 for the part and $79 for the service. $150??? for a piece of nylon! Seemed to me that this was way inflated but I had no choice but to let him finish the job and pay. I told him that $150 seemed way too high for such a small piece and I thought it was inflated too much. I asked him what a piece like that would cost at the store....and this super knowledgeable guy that knew everything about garages all of a sudden had no idea what they cost! RED FLAG! I told him I would pay but if I looked it up later and I was getting ripped off, I would write a review. When he wrote me my final bill he charged less than the $150 he quoted for what is readily available online for $30. I was happy to pay the service fee and the level of knowledge was good. But a 500% mark up on parts isn't a fair practice. I would encourage the vendor to be more reasonable when pricing out parts for clients. read more

I ended up paying over the initial quote amount, as it turns out the initial quote was for just 1 spring, and mine needed 2 springs. Would've been nice if I was asked about type of door and springs needed initially during the appointment, but wasn't that much big of a deal though. Finished the work pretty quickly and gave suggestions on how to keep it functioning properly. Also, he was nice enough to help me sync my garage door with my car's internal garage door button. Chad and Brad showed up on time (on a Friday afternoon) and got right to work. My roll-up spring snapped. They safely replaced the springs in about 20 minutes. Next they set out to test the door....which wasn't cooperating. This is where "ancient" kicks in, and Chad quickly diagnosed the second problem....a bushing in my drive unit had worn out. It turned out that the guy who came out to service my door had not been at his best recently. But the owner recognized that it was no excuse for poor service. To make things right, the owner came out himself to service my garage door and he did a great job! I am very surprised (in a good way) that the owner cared enough to follow up on the incident. We have used this company for years whenever we have a problem with our garage door opener! They are quick to show up and prices are fair. They always explain what the problem is and show us whatever damage they find. Today's issue was a garage door that refused to open. Kenneth came out (I'm sure it was after his normal work hours!), identified the problem quickly and even had the part on hand. He could have easily told us we needed a whole new unit and we would have believed him. But he was honest and said it would be better and less expensive to replace the one part as the rest of the unit was in good shape.
