If I was able to read the reviews before I was assigned them via Home Depot, would've never gotten this far. True to the other reviews, they called me shortly after my purchase to tell me that the garage door I ordered would not work and that I would need to buy one they supplied. Of course, the one they offered to use was not available on the Home Depot site. The price they quoted was double my purchase price and installation fee. Checked yelp and see that other people suffered the same fate. Home Depot couldn't even return the installation fee so this is what they bank on. (only thing to note was that in one of the garages there was cardboard boxes, trash and some debris left behind that my maintenance team had to clean up, but nothing too major.) Horrible customer service. They came today to install our garage doors. The installers worked very quickly, which I guess was bad. One installer closed the garage doors for me and opened them, nice. when they left I closed them a few hours later it's not working. I called and they couldn't come back for 6 days, after supervisor now 2 days, regardless, this is bad service. I expect the day of installation it should be working and no matter what someone should come back. Very poor service. read more

To say this company is horrible would be an understatement. We bought a garage opener on Home Depot website and added an installation as well. The price for the installation was by far the best around these here parts. We were looking forward to a new opener installation and then that day came and we came upon a harsh reality of A & J Doors. Turns out this horrible company is the only one subcontracted with Home Depot in my area. A guy came to install new opener and we immediately felt uneasy with his persona. He was abrupt, seemed agitated. So he started unpacking the box and stuff went flying. A car clicker landed on hard concrete floor and I asked him politely to be more careful with new equipment. He mumbled something so I left him to do the job. Not even 10 minutes passed and he came knocking on my door leading into the house. Telling me he won't be doing an installation after all. Asking him why and he told me to talk to his manager. Meanwhile, he is throwing new equipment back into carton box. So I reached out to his manager and immediately felt a metal in her voice, confirming they won't install new opener under some bogus reason that something is not right with the door itself. But the rude tech confirmed that door is well balanced before he unpacked the box. I asked her what will happen to the installation fee of $150 and she said they don't have any way to collect it unless installation was complete. And there was her biggest lie! Right after I expressed my frustration about service not complete, she said I can talk to Home Depot and they will cancel my installation. Turns out, A & J Doors marked the job as complete and collected my fee of $150! I was going in shock when I called Home Depot and found out about that . Meanwhile, the moody tech Scott was long gone while I was on the phone with his manager and left garage door wide open! What a douche move it was! My honest advice to anybody out there, stay away from A & J Doors company and if you purchase your garage opener through Home Depot, just buy the item and hire some third party company to install it for you. Not A & J Doors! Their low rating speaks volumes and nickel and dime ripoff strategy will eventually catch up with them. read more

I'm always fascinated by the different experiences for the same company. Mine, with A&J doors, was perfect. I quoted two custom width contemporary steel doors with two local companies, and both came in at $3400 per door, installed. Lowes price on essentially the same door was $751 for the door and $698 for the install, each - under half the cost. Both were fully insulated steel doors with steel inside and out. However, Lowes couldn't make a custom width or custom color; but I figured to paint them myself, and I could live with a standard width. I ordered the doors, and Lowes contracted with A&J doors for the install. Art, from A&J, came out shortly, was helpful and knowledgeable, and said that A&J could remove the end caps and shorten the doors by 2". He also agreed that they would deliver the doors to me a few days before the install so I could paint them. The door builder, Wayne Dalton, was surprisingly good at communication, but nevertheless it took 7 months for the doors to be built and delivered. Not A&J's fault - mostly just the pandemic and the surprisingly high demand. A&J informed me of the delivery date and scheduled the dropoff - correctly - and I painted the doors, a fairly easy task with a roller. A&J then scheduled the install, which happened this morning on schedule. Rick and Freddie, the installers, did an absolutely first rate job, and couldn't have been neater, better at communicating - and could not have done a better job. All this for about 40% of the cost if I'd ordered through a garage door company. Incidentally, the Lowes salesman was great - until I placed the order - then he was terrible and offered no help for the process. All of the "Goodness" came from A&J read more

Wow, these reviews made me really nervous and in the end we had a GREAT experience. We ordered a garage door opener from Home Depot and A&J Doors was our installer. Chris showed up, was on time, and had the old garage door removed (and that original install in this house was done by what I can only describe as someone who either has ZERO knowledge of ha going a garage door opener, or they were higher than a kite and didn't care, I'm guessIng the latter is the case). Chris got the old one down, new one up, safety sensors in, opener on the wall, and helped us program it to WiFi, in an hour and a half. Chris was really nice and easy to work with. The day of the scheduled install Michelle from their headquarters called to say they had a problem, that 1 of the panels to our double garage door was missing from the order. She immediately upgraded me to a door they had in stock. That was a big upgrade from uninslated to insulated. I didn't even have to ask, she offered. I expected to wait for weeks but this installer called me the next day after I bought the opener and paid for everything at Home Depot. I accepted the next day appointment the company offered. The customer service rep on the phone checked the opener's make & model and suggested me to buy another model since the one I bought won't be covered under the warranty. I don't know how else everyone has done with their service. 05/04/2021, I had to replace a garage spring, because the old one that had lasted for years broke. The guy said, he was going to replace it with a heavier duty spring so it would last longer. Will it lasted, until 08/17/2023, then it broke. I believe he said, it only had a one year guarantee. If he had installed a truly heavier duty spring, like he told me, it would have lasted for years, like the old one. Luckily, I didn't pay a lot of money for it. Oh well you get what you pay for. I went with a totally different company and I've got a 12 year guarantee. So be careful for what you pay for. I trusted him. Oh well that one was on me. read more

Run. They do Home Depot installs. If you're in SF, they wait till you pay for their on-site initial inspection to tell you you need a lead certificate to get the install completed, otherwise it can't be done. My guy pretended to confirm my measurements, gave his little spiel about Home Depot getting caught disposing of lead doors improperly so I need a lead inspection, and then took off. I got the lead certificate. They didn't think that was going to happen, so when the installer showed up with doors never properly measured during the on-site, they 'discovered' they had the wrong size. 2 more weeks of waiting. The installation was the bare minimum to say they were hanged. Missing pretty much all the door parts/accessories. It took 2k to get a proper company to come in a do legit install. Happy to do it Avoid this company like the plague. If you're not getting ripped off, perhaps you're just not noticing or just a first time home buyer learning the hard way. The technician arrived on time, he was very knowledgeable and made sure to answer all my questions. When the technician returned to complete the work (I had to order a new part), he was very professional, arrived on time, finished way sooner than expected and made sure I was comfortable with the new product before leaving. There were no hidden fees or charges. I would 100% recommend this company. Home Depot contracts with A&J Doors to install doors bought there. We called around because we have a support beam 5 feet inside our garage, necessitating a special type of install. A&J came out TWICE for an estimate, measured, and guaranteed that they could do a "high install" in which the door rolled up vertically into an arch area/pocket in our garage ceiling, and stated that the door would not hang over the garage once rolled up. We agreed to the install. Then the owner went on vacation. We had to contact them several times to schedule the install itself because they'd forgotten about us, but then they finally scheduled the install. Install #1: Two men came, looked at the garage and said "uh...you want a high install? That's not going to work." I explained that A&J Doors had measured twice before and guaranteed it. "We'll look into it." And then I returned into the house. When I came back, they'd done a regular install job WITHOUT my authorization (horizontal, going directly into the beam). It hung over the door by a solid 7-9 inches when opened. They also stated that the motor A&J Doors told us to buy wasn't going to work well with the door. The men didn't care whether we were satisfied or not, just stating that they'd knock a little off the install fees. My partner wondered if they treated me this way because I am a woman and they didn't think I needed to authorize the work. The door closed very slowly and sometimes took two presses of the button to work. We contacted A&J Doors about the miscommunication and inappropriate install. They promised to sent a manager out. We scheduled an appointment. Install #2: Two different workers came out. They were clearly not management, but appeared to be contracted by A&J Doors. They proceeded to say the same thing...that a high install wouldn't work and it wasn't possible. They then did a horizontal install just a couple of inches higher, leaving less door hanging over the edge (just a few inches). But still the wrong type of install. They said that the motor should work fine, but at this point, I didn't trust anything they said. The door works okay, but I'm highly suspicious of a company that guarantees a type of install that they can't actually do and then doesn't communicate with their contracted workers AT ALL to guarantee their work/install job. They either lied to get our business or have poor professionalism to not follow through with the correct type of install. In sum, I do not trust this company at all, and will never use this company again. read more

Chris came out to install a garage door opener. First he fixed a broken hinge that holds a section of the garage door together then continued the install. He made it look so easy by being well organized. After the opener was up and operational he proceeded to test it. What he discovered was the garage door would hit the corner of the cabinet that came with the house. He said that is what caused the hinge to break and it had to be removed immediately or the settings would be off. A simpler solution - Chris pulled out his sawzall removing the protruding corner. Problem solved. He also lubricated the hinges. Also he spent a few minutes showing me how to program the controller and how to test the springs. I highly recommend A & J Doors. read more

They came and instead of installing the door they tried to sell us a different unit and refused to install the unit we bought from Home Depot even though we had already paid for the installation. We complained to Home Depot who said they will send us a different installer. These people came again and again, they tried to sell us another garage door opener.
