If I could give 0 stars I would. Not only did they mess up my car. But they did not fill up any of the fluids I paid for. The next week, my check engine light was coming on because the coolant wasn't filled. Then I had no windshield wiper fluid on the highway when we had a bunch of slushy snow. When we tried asking for clarification on what work was done she interrupted and spoke over us several times. Recently had an oil change done on my car at Midas-Old Seward. As the car was finishing up, the service rep let me know filters and rear brakes needed to be done. I informed the shop I would schedule that later. Upon receiving my paperwork, there was no notations of filters and brakes work needed. When I inquired where is the notations of work needed to be done on my receipt, service rep responded, "Technician wrote on another paper." I had to ask for copy. When dealing with Steve in the past, he not only provided the paperwork detailing any findings and/or future work required, but I was sent a text/images of the work needed. Thank you Steve! Husband brought his truck in for his breaks and tire change about 3 months ago. They did fine on the breaks but while they had possession of the truck damaged a rim and a couple of hub caps. They were upfront about it and said they would replace them which we appreciated. Fast forward 3 months the rim has been "on order" with Ford and still nothing. When we call in for updates all the manager can say is I called Ford and left a message nothing else I can do. Update from my last review. After I got the oil changed they had put a bad O ring I guess, had a slit in it so all the oil they put in leaked out of my car for the next week. Took it back and told them and they fixed it no charge. All that oil leaking could have ruined my engine but it's ok now. March 2022 took it back to them For another oil change. Cost 105. Yelp has an average amount and they said 127 so Midas has a fair price! I dropped it off at 9:30 and they called me at 2:30. I think it had been done for awhile but nobody told me. I have spent around $600 there in the past 2-3 months replacing my front tires over and over for bubbles, tires blowing out every 2-3 weeks. I am a very safe driver, usually transporting only to and from work. These are just very cheap tires. I had brought my vehicle in on a few occasions to get repaired what they did not fix ,that I paid a lot for. Long story short I'm a single mother of four and my vehicle is what gets me to my medical appointments the worst is I have a bad heart condition and I also use my vehicle to get my children to school and pick them up,I brought my car back in because they did not fix what I had paid for it was around $729. My vehicle was still doing the same thing I had brought it in for, misfiring. They called me before closing to come get my vehicle and said that they had repaired it. I was happy and my child and I walked to get my vehicle. I get in the vehicle and my son said the car was still shaking, mind you my son is 5 and had enough common sense to know something was still wrong with my vehicle. I took my Toyota RAV 4 to Midas on Bragaw st in Anchorage to switch out my tires. The tire pressure light was on when I picked up my vehicle when the work was done. I was in a hurry when I picked up my vehicle and I thought it would go away when I correct the tire pressure. So I did not go back and have them correct it. Then, I checked the tire pressure when I get home that day, the tire pressure was all good. Then, I thought the sensor needs to be reset during my routine maintenance to make the warning light goes away. I took it to Kendall Toyota for routine maintenance and the technician told me that one of my tire sensor was missing and it would cost $152 to install a new one. It's been over a month since I took my vehicle to Midas on Bragaw st. I know I have nothing to proof the light came on right after the service provided by Midas. I hope people reading the review would be cautious when they take their vehicle to this Midas or any other tire services shops. And I hope to bring those bad services into light so the company will have a chance to improve the quality of their services. read more

Egregiously overpriced! $46.50 for a quart of synthetic oil? How do these filthy turds sleep at night.

I can not recommend this place highly enough! I was moving into my new apt on a Monday and found out my alternator was dying. I purchased an alternator from a nearby auto parts stores, called Midas, and Steve got my truck in right then and made the repair, even though I wasn't an existing customer. 2 hrs later I was back on the road. Fast forward to the next day as I'm finishing my move. My truck dies. I call Steve 7 mins before Midas closes and he has me drop the truck off via tow truck. At 9:30am the following morning, he calls. The alternator the parts store sold me was a dud. He's already called the store, which told him I had to retrieve the dead alternator, bring it in and exchange it. He tells them that's unacceptable because I have no vehicle, and they are 2 blocks away from him and need to just bring the new alternator to him. They oblige. By 1:30pm, I'm picking up my truck and back on the road. Huge kudos to these guys, and to Steve for repeatedly getting me back on the road in a timely manner and for advocating on my behalf. Also his warmth, kindness, and sense of humor are on point! I will definitely be recommending this place and returning to it when I need service next. read more

**Update** Midas corporate commented on this but never followed up as they stated they would. They get two stars because they were quick. My tire needed a patch. I called at 3:45 pm on a Saturday and was told they are closing soon but if I could be there soon they could do it. This was not a problem since I was across the street. At 3:50 I asked the guy behind the counter about buying tires for my other vehicle and his reply was come see us another day we are about to close. The sign on the door says they clearly don't close for over an hour so we sat there in silence for the next 20 minutes until several other people called in to ask about tires also. If you don't want to sell tires you probably shouldn't work at a tire shop. I needed 5x 37in tires at $500 a piece. Good thing Costco is willing to take my money. When I went to check out the same guy tried to charge me more than what was posted on the sign right behind him. When I brought it up he said oh that's our old pricing. I said well then you should probably change your sign. He proceeded to half back to the computer to make the changes. Throughout the rest the time I was in the store he continue to make snide remarks such as "we just have to make sure everybody's happy with their price today". read more

They ripped off my boyfriend with a crappy oil change and they did not even bother actually checking if his passenger taillight worked since they claimed they "fixed" it before returning back his truck. Also, they charged him extra for something that's not hard to do. Don't worry, he barged back to the store and told them upfront how he's not stupid and that he's a "f**king mechanic". The lady at the front desk was unprofessional and rude; she didn't look or seem to know much about vehicles to begin with. We went home and fixed it and his passenger taillight works now when you hit the break (which they couldn't even fix) but now the taillight doesn't work when you click the lever right. ALSO, he knows the owner of that Midas, so hopefully they'll be getting their a**es chewed. read more

I initially had a pretty bad experience that was then adequately resolved by management. The bad experience was around the diagnostic and evaluation of what work needed to be required and some work needing to be told it was "OK" until the instant I pulled out of the shop and then all of a sudden it was not "ok" and it was additional work that had to be required that was missed. This was pretty upsetting and I initially left a pretty negative review. The management then reached out to me and I think we came to a resolution about getting that work done and found overall they were responsive and fair. I've been to this and the other Midas AK locations multiple times with multiple vehicle and my experience has generally been positive until this recent visit and in the door the first time I probably would have given them a 5 star review but for this particular visit multi-day experience I will give them a 3 to balance out the overall experience. The negative experience though did let me learn a lot more about the people that work there and a lot of them are long time employees and they all seem committed to customer satisfaction and quality. Things to be aware of that a front end inspection is a different inspection than a brake inspection and the brakes are only given a high level inspection vs. a more thorough inspection. Which they have a diagnostic fee associated with each plus a shop fee. If you get work done though in some cases though I believe they generally include that inspection fee into the other services so its not a separate add-on charge. My recommendation is to work on communication of the diagnostic services and spending more time going over the detail of the inspection report to clearly communicate the priority of maintenance items and their actual conditions such as measurements and other such things vs. general high level terms. As well if something is 'on the form' whether it be on the invoice summary form or the inspection form be sure to point it out in all communications over the phone, at pickup, etc. read more

Ever since we found them we've stuck with them, great customer service, very fast and timely efficient not only were they able to help us fix the mechanical part but Steve who's the manager there went out of his way for us over and over again, these guys need awards! They communicated with us on everything, helped us every step of the way including the paperwork and the headache dealing with insurance and paperwork. Not only do I recommend these guys, but I'm very impressed on how much they went out of their way to help us, normally at a dealership the vehicle would be stuck there over night, not here! i see i am not the only one who is dissatisfied with midas. They destroyed my brakes by putting ceramic pads on instead of changing out the rotors. however, they charged me for changing out the rotors. i am now stuck with an astronomical bill of over $1800.00. the ceramic pads destroyed so many components that i am having to replace everything. Pads, and rotors as well.  Midas is unwilling to reimburse me after speaking with owner, jeff lientfer. he starts out saying he is not a technician and finishes with we put ceramic plates on all the time. there is no way i would allow you to work on my truck again. warranty or not. which is what he offered. Incompetent mechanics and scam artist customer service staff I received poor quality service on oil pressure switch and valve cover gasket set replacement that took 4 visits until I had enough of their nonsense. I phoned Midas if they had an available appointment to change the gasket cover set causing the oil to leak (diagnosed by another mechanic). This other mechanic did not have an available appointment that day so I took my vehicle to Midas. When I spoke to Nathan from Midas, he assured me that they can take care of my van that day. I dropped off my van that morning, thinking they will fix the problem that day. I communicated to them if they could check any other problems causing the leakage and he said they will. Unexpectedly when they were about to be closed that day, Nathan called me and said they did install the gasket valve cover set wrong, so they have to redo the install all over again and told me to pick up my vehicle the following day. When I picked up my van, there were visible leakages in the area where the Midas person parked my van. I spoke to Jeff and raised to concern. I requested if they could reinspect my van again and they did. I drove off my van thinking they fixed the leakage problem. I asked Nathan and Jeff in the front if there were any problems and he said there is none that they saw. After a few days, I noticed my van was still leaking. So I phoned Midas and Jeff told me to bring the van in so they can check. After the second visit, my van is still leaking and smelling like burnt rubber coming from my engine. My vehicle experienced a new problem such as dying when I stopped in the stop light. It just died which never happened before. So I called them again and told me to bring my van in. I kept my patience and hopes up. People do mistakes all the time and I just have to give another chance. On my third visit, the Midas staff in the front didn't tell me how long it was going to take. So my four-year-old daughter and I waited there for about 3 hours, hoping that it would be the last day coming to Midas for the same problem. Several days after, I still noticed my van is leaking. This time, it was dribbling like crazy and it created a small puddle of oil wherever I parked and smoked when I drove it. When I put my heater on, it smelled like burnt rubber. So I phoned the Midas shop again and they checked my van on Wednesday, AGAIN for the 4TH time. This time they told me the oil filter adaptor housing gasket is broken and I have to pay $139 for them to change it. Thinking again that will solve the leakage problem so I agreed to pay the cost and get it done. My daughter and I waited for about 4 hours in their shop before we drove off our vehicle again, thinking there were no more leaks. My van is still leaking, this time I had enough. My husband talked to Nathan. Nathan told my husband that there are multiple leaks and even lied that I told them I just want my gasket cover set replaced which is not true. My purpose of going to their shop is for them to fix the leakage which I communicated to Nathan when I dropped off my vehicle. Nathan nor Jeff never communicated there are multiple leaks and I would be expecting leaks and coming back and forth to their shop multiple times. I was expecting the Midas people to mention to me that there are multiple leaks during my 4 visits. He even told my husband that I chose them bc Midas is cheaper which is not true, actually Midas is more expensive even with the military discount. I chose them because Nathan told me that they can fix the leakage that day which they did not on their first attempt. I called Midas for the 5th time, trying to raise concern about their poor quality of service. I told him I want my refund but they refused. I won't ever bring my vehicle to them anymore to waste my money and time. We have several family around the area and many friends, I will make sure they don't make the mistake of bringing their vehicle to Midas. Poor quality job and scam artist staff. I wish they just admit their mistakes and would stop this nonsense with me. I'm tired of wasting my time and money at Midas. I feel like, they took advantage of me as a lady not knowing much about vehicles and being an ethnic minority. I did not raise my voice nor show I was mad, even when my daughter and I were coming to their shop multiple times with the same concern for our vehicle. For the management, I hope you hired the right people and please tell your staff to take care of your customers and listen to them. I read the first review for this location (it said that they charged for a tire rotation and didn't actually rotate them). So when I went in, I marked all the tires before requesting a rotation. After everything was finished, I looked at the marks and asked them if they rotated the tires, they said yes. I pointed out the markings and they asked me to give them a few more minutes for the rotation and they grudgingly did not charge me for the rotation. While they were rotating my tires, the technician didn't rotate the tires to the correct rotated positions and had to be corrected once I asked about the correct rotation positions. Then they stripped three nuts and had to run out to buy me new nuts. The technician who failed to rotate the tires and then stripped the nuts is Austin. The name of the manager who was only grudgingly cordial is Fred. These employees are borderline incompetent and rude to boot, acting like my requests to fulfill the services I had paid for were an annoying inconvenience. read more

My advice is shop around for better pricing. They quoted me 1140 to replace pads and rotors on my Subaru. Took it to an independent shop who charged me 620 for the same work. Their shop rate is outrageous and they pad the hours in their estimate. You will find a better deal almost anywhere in town. In response to the corporate response below. This is a Subaru Outback perhaps one of the most popular cars in Alaska. You can buy (retail!) brake pads and rotors, off the shelf, at any number of auto parts stores within a mile of your location for a fraction of your quoted prices. With respect to labor - if you go to the trouble of removing a tire, pulling the caliper and installing pads, it takes literally 5 additional minutes to swap out a rotor. Charging an additional hour of labor for work already done, if not illegal is certainly deceptive. Your business model seems to rely on consumer ignorance and the perception that a national chain will be better or cheaper than a local shop, which obviously is not the case. read more

Absolutely one of the most crooked businesses in Anchorage. First of all I had an 11:00 appointment that turned into a 1:00 appointment which cost me over $30 in Lyft fees to go to my doctor appointment. Had I known it was going to be 1:00 I could have driven my own car. The issue I was having is the knob that controls where the heat is coming from whether defrost, floor, or front vent was not working. I was charged over $90 for them to tell me that it would cost over $1,500 in parts and labor to fix as there was a broken part in the heater core. This didn't make sense so I had another mechanic I knew come to my house and reattach a cable inside the dash and charged only $75 and the problem was solved. So Midas lied to me, couldn't even keep their word on an appointment and then they were going to gauge me for OVER $1,500!!! No one should ever do business with them! "There's a sucker born every minute" must be their motto! I asked for an oil change and a tire rotation, but I only got half the job. The oil change may have been done, but the tires were not rotated. When I picked up my vehicle, I saw that the right rear tire was exactly where it was when I dropped it off. It had a distinguished mark on it from a previous flat repair. I asked the service manager if he was certain the tires were rotated. He checked with the tech. The tech said yes. Was I mistaken? No. I spoke with the tech, and I explained that I knew undoubtedly that the right rear tire had not been moved. Don't waste your time or your money! Thinking I get piece of mind; Instead, got pain in the ass. I brought my vehicle in for an oil change and they recommended I get my pads and rotors changed. First day I got my vehicle back the right front was scraping and grooved the rotor. Brought it back and they fixed it. As soon as they machined the rotors from there on out I had tons of noise when stopping. I brought it back a second time they said it was rocks which I don't believe because of the metal to metal noise I heard. Third time I bring it back again he comes back with the "rocks" excuse but says if it will make me happy they will re-replace the front rotors and pads. Fourth time giving my vehicle they come back and tell me my hub bearing is bad and hitting the rotor which I then take it to the dealership. The dealership says no it's not the hub, it's the caliper hardware rubbing on the rotor which they fixed. Fifth time I bring it to a different Midas location which honored the life-time, replaced rotors and pads free and guess what they did it right this time, no noise! For $1200 brake job it would of been nice if they got it right the first time instead of making 6 individual trips. I don't have time to play dick-around.
