I've been utilizing this shop for about 10 years, and in that time they have serviced at least 5 different vehicles for me, ranging from domestic to foreign. I have used them for oil changes, brakes, alignment, etc. The reason I keep going back is 1. i trust them, they are honest 2. they do good work as I've never had any negative issues after their services, and 3. their prices are extremely fair. Finding a local auto shop with these 3 qualities is a rare occurrence. Just this past year, my Jeep was substanttialy out of alignment, and they fixed it and it has been perfect since. Jeff (who has been there since I've been utilizing Midas) even took the vehicle, post alignment fix, on a test drive with me, to be sure it was correct . They have worked on multiple vehicles for me w/ regards to brakes, oil changes, etc. Just today I took my car in for an oil change and told them it also seemed to have a slow oil leak. Post oil change, Travis called me and had already looked up my Warranty per my VIN and suggested i take it in to the dealer for warranty covered repair for an oil leak. I also asked them about my brakes, which I figured needed some repairing given the Miles on the vehicle w/o brakes to date. While i was on the phone, Travis went out looked at the brakes and re-verified what was on the report he had already gone over with me. He verified that I likely had a minimum few thousand miles left on the brakes before needing repair (rather than trying to upselling me brakes prematurely, which Other places often do). I truly trust in this local Midas to provide great technical service/repairs with an honest and service orientated approach and will continue to use them for repairs to my vehicles. read more

I thought I could trust Encinitas Midas with my Audi brakes. I was wrong!!!! I had Encinitas Midas do some work on my brakes about a year ago. They have started to squeak so I made an appointment for Encinitas Midas to look at my brakes thinking there was something that needed to be fixed. After Midas looked at my brakes they told me the rotors were the problem and it would be $870 to get the squeaking fixed. By the way I a took my car in without my boyfriend....I was a single blonde with limited car knowledge but not naive! I told the Midas rep thanks for the quote but I wanted a second opinion from my Audi peeps in Carlsbad. Thanks Audi!!!!!! I took my car into Carlsbad Audi to let them look at my brakes. Audi gave me the truth!!!!! Audi told me my rotors were fine and my brake pads looked sufficient, my brakes did not need any maintenance. The squeaking was due to lower quality brakes installed by Midas last year but there was NOTHING wrong with my brakes. Wow! Thanks Audi for helping me get the truth about my Audi brakes. I will NEVER take my car to Midas in Encinitas again. If you do take your car there you may want a second opinion. They tried to scam money from me and they may do the same to you!!!! I have been coming here for over ten years. They have serviced my BMW's, Cadillac Escalade and Lexus. They have ALWAYS provided great customer service, diagnosed the problems ( large and small) and fixed the issue(s) at a very competitive rate. You need to try this place before you go to a dealership or another shop and get overcharged. Oil changes here are quick and inexpensive. This place is incredible! I came in today for an oil change and was very well taken care of by Frank and Jimmy. They, as always, provided excellent customer service from start to finish. Generally I expect to be treated average at best but my experience at this Midas was AWESOME. I knew we had some sorta' brake issue and I was prepared for a big bill. What can I say about this place. The team up front at the desk are very helpful.i discussed my issue with Frank about a small problem and they said they would take care of it . Updating my review again because i just wanted reiterate how i feel. Cars STRESS ME OUT! I have no idea what I'm doing and i absolutely hate dealing with them. I recently got a new car (2008, but new to me) after i totaled my previous one, and i got the car from a private dealer. Made me nervous but took a leap of faith and purchased it. Couples days after it wouldn't start...! I was so upset and said a few choice words but the first thing i thought of was to call Jeff at Midas and it honestly gave me a sense of comfort and relief that i could go to someone and it would be taken care of and they would be HONEST. Dishonest: I brought my car in to fix a coolant leak and do a free code read on my check engine light. Instead, I got a coolant flush (leak not fixed) and charged $120 for an estimate which was supposed to free. The check engine light starts with a code reader that plugs into the car under the dash, and displays codes. This takes two seconds and most places do this free of charge. Instead of telling me the code, Jeff calls me up and says the problem requires $120 fee to find the problem. Me being trusting said ok please find the problem. A few hours later, he calls to tell me that it is a bad fuel sensor. I asked what the code said, and he said bad fuel sensor. I then asked what the extra $120 was for? and he said he wanted to check if wires (since it was dirty) were shorted. In conclusion: He already had the problem identified by the code reader, but failed to tell me that info when he pressed me to do a more expensive estimate (which was really just examining wires for a short which I didn't need). The other thing, the coolant leak, was not fixed, and the problem was not identified. Instead I was sold on getting a flush so my fee for looking at it wasn't wasted. I've been to a lot of service stations over the years, this was bad treatment. I'm new to the area, so I will find another place. read more

My car's check engine light turned on and I took my car to Midas Shop in Encinitas and asked for a diagnostics. Couple of hours after leaving my vehicle I received a call from one of the mechanics, Jeff, letting me know that a scanner indicated two codes: 1) the rear air fuel sensor and 2) the O2 sensor. Jeff gave me a quote over the phone to replace the two sensors; I asked him to not start the work and just simply clear the check engine codes and I was on my way to pick up the car. Shortly after I received another call from Jeff letting me know that they cannot start the car and their computer does not recognize the issue. I went to the shop to try turning it on with a spare key, but no result. Jeff and the other mechanics at the shop did not know why it was not starting and asked if I could leave the car at their shop over the weekend. After another day of working on my car I received a call from Jeff telling me they don't know what's from with car and I have to get it out of the shop and if I have any problem with that to deal with a store owner. Alan was not responsive or helpful in anyway; other than raising his voice on the phone and accusing me of trying to "play him" he did nothing and asked me to return the rental immediately. I tried over and over again to explain Alan that my car was fine when I drove to his shop and not sure what his mechanics did when trying to clear the codes; the car was running fine. Alan refused to listen and kept accusing me of lying. The next day I towed my car at my own expense to the Acura dealership where their mechanics informed me that my car's computer was burnt. I called Alan to and let him know that his mechanics burned the PCM and he is responsible, but again Alan refused to listen to anything I had to say and refused to pay for the costs. read more

Pros: - a $20 oil change - oil change done almost immediately on a Sat afternoon (estimated 45 mins, but actually 30 minutes in total) - friendly service Cons - They told me I needed to replace my tires. I do need to replace my tires, but I don't need $150 sports tires! Sure, even if it is a sexy Honda Accord (I mean, you don't see many of those on the road), it doesn't have a spoiler, it's raised the standard 12 inches off the ground, and my radio station is set at NPR. Maybe that's a hint I'm not a racer and you shouldn't try to upsell me with sports tires, and just quote me the standard ones. Since my bf told me I was being taken for a ride, I held off on the tires -- I'll make a tire trip to Costco another day. If you can resist upsells, I recommend this place. read more

I made an appointment to have my oil changed and turned up for my appointment ten minutes early. I asked how long it would take and the guy told me an hour. When I came back fifty minutes later, I noticed my car was still in the same spot in the front of the business. I walked to the counter, mentioned seeing my car in the front and asked if that meant it was ready. "No," he said, asking me which car was mine. This, mind you, from a man who took my keys fifty minutes ago, who filled out paperwork with me, and who looked me in the eye and said one hour. He then went into the garage and asked how my car was coming along, and one of the mechanics spat back that they hadn't even looked at it yet. I would like to take a moment now to reiterate that I had an eleven o'clock appointment. It was now almost noon and my car remained untouched. "We should have it for you in twenty minutes," the guy at the register offered, with so little confidence that I was mildly surprised he made it through the sentence without laughing. Forty minutes later, a young blonde woman walked in, presented her keys, and asked how long it would be for an oil change. When the same guy told her, with a straight face, "about an hour," I felt like a guy standing on a rooftop, watching some poor victim walk into oncoming traffic, powerless to help. Almost 100 minutes after presenting my car for its eleven o'clock appointment, my car was finally returned to me. If you've got an appointment, a standard oil change shouldn't take an hour, much less close to two hours. My friend warned me against bringing my car here, but opting for what I thought was an easy option, I ignored him. Never again. read more

The first time I went in there Nathan (asst mgr) told me they weren't going to be able to look at my car without an appt. I thought OK, maybe this place runs a tighter ship and they deal with scheduled customers first. That works for me. So I made an appt, brought my car in, and 2 hrs later they hadn't touched it. Tony (mgr) laid the apologies on pretty thick and said if I made another appt they'd make sure everything was taken care of. So I made another appt, brought my car in and left it for the whole day. Still nothing. Got some more "sincere" apologies from Tony though. If only apologies could fix my car. The managers here look like they have some experience on used car lots with all the customer service smoke they're blowing, but they don't do what's really important - say what you mean and mean what you say. I first went to Pep Boys where they immediately said I needed a new tire and would need to leave my car for 2-3 hours....I drove half a mile to Midas where I explained my rushed situation to Jovani. He literally ran out to check out my car, ran back in and told me he had a tire and he could sell me a new one and out it on, but mine was fixable. I am in love with this place. They always explain everything to me - with a lot of patience. My old car was a lemon and they did the best they could to keep it running for me until I could get a new one. And now they are still giving me the best deals and service around for my 'new' used car. I made the mistake of going to another company to get something done (because they had a coupon) and it took a long time, plus they were very condescending when I asked a bunch of questions (turns out the mechanic made a mistake and they were trying to hide it.). Jeff, the manager, is especially focused on customer service. He and the others there are VERY good at letting me know what truly needs to be taken care of right away and what can wait. My recent experience at Midas in Encinitas was marginal-- at best. I'd been a customer here for years for minor things -- oil changes, batteries, etc., most of which was handled o.k. This time around I needed follow up work for a heater fan problem on my vehicle. A problem had developed from the previous work they'd done (totaling about $450 labor charges). But, the service manager Jeff refused to even look into the issue (not to mention blowing off a couple of promised return phone calls). He couldn't be bothered to spend the half an hour needed to pull the car in and inspect the blower motor assembly (which I would have been willing to pay for). Rather, he immediately knew it couldn't be a problem with any of Midas' work, and wasn't particularly interested in finding a solution. Jeff's only thought-- without even looking at it-- was to replace the entire unit from the factory. Of course, he was also sure I wouldn't want to do that due to the high mark ups and cost involved... I felt kind of scammed with this approach. I mean, it conveniently takes the issue entirely out of Midas' court-- "hey, not our problem and we know that without even looking at it!" Obviously, mistakes can be made with repair work-- it happens, and I'm can deal with that. But to flat out deny the possibility (without even a cursory inspection), and then deflect of the entire problem back onto the customer-- that's unacceptable in my book. I'd recommend looking elsewhere for anything but the most basic auto maintenance services-- and be careful with this Midas location even then. read more

The case of the apparently bad battery, and the amazing service I got as a result: I had purchased a nice, like-new used car a couple of weeks prior. One morning, the battery was completely dead for no apparent reason. I thought, "Great, I got a car with a bad battery." I jumped the car and it was fine the rest of the day, so I thought it was an isolated incident. But the next morning, the same thing happened! I jumped it again and drove to my office in Encinitas to work. That afternoon I went down to Midas to see if they could diagnose my battery problem. They went right to work and tested the battery. Interestingly, the battery was cranking out a higher-than-standard amount of power. All indications were that the battery was just fine. Jeff, my very friendly, courteous and competent Midas service manager, suggested we let the car sit for a half hour and then see if the power output of the battery diminishes. So we waited and tried again. Shockingly, the battery was cranking out even MORE power. Jeff suggested that if the car can't start yet again the following morning, to have it towed to Midas so it can be tested from a "dead start." But, I live in Sorrento Valley, not Encinitas, so towing the car that far wouldn't be practical. He suggested I could tow it to the Midas in Miramar instead. So I asked Jeff what I owed him for his team's time checking the battery for me.. He said, "No, there's no charge for that." I then asked Jeff if Midas locations are franchises or corporate-owned. "They're franchises." I said I really wished I could give him my business. He replied that if I would like, I could post about my experience on Yelp. Which is exactly what I'm doing. Jeff and his team are ultra-professional, friendly and service-oriented. If I ever need automotive care in Encinitas, Midas will be my goto place. I know the work will be done well, fast, and at a fair price (I surmise this because I heard him quoting prices to and offering advice to another customer over the phone.) These guys were totally awesome! My car was an absolute mess when I brought it in and I knew it... But I had no idea how truly bad it was! Im totally broke in law school & have to make this car last... Not only did they keep me under budget, but - because my car took hours longer than expected - they drove me to my interview, picked me up from my interview and one of the guys even offered to fix my bike!!! I went there when I had a little squeak in my brakes for a check up. They told me there was a crack in my pad and it was worn down and I needed new ones. Total cost was $325. I took it somewhere else for a 2nd opinion. They showed me the pads and there was no cracks. Pad was still in great shape and had plenty of life. They sanded the pads a little and there was no charge for their work. Brakes work great now. What a rip off Midas would have been! Do not go here! read more

I'm rarely this impressed with a mechanic, but I've had nothing but good experiences with this shop. I had some major work done with my Jeep a year ago, and since then have trusted them for all kinds of diagnostics, and definitely oil changes. I was in yesterday, without an appointment, and they were able to change the oil in my Matrix. I mentioned that the windshield wipers might need to be looked at and Jeff said they'd take care of that too. They explained the high-mileage on my Matrix, and we agreed on an oil. Since I just got this car in July, I don't want to mess anything up. :) Quite pleased with the service, and past service I've gotten at Midas from other managers as well, Tony & Garry have always been super helpful. I checked in, dropped the car off, and came back in less than an hour to have it all finished. My car drove well before, but now it's runnin' so smooth. How often does someone give an auto service place a five-star review? Something about the words "auto service" can put just about anyone on edge. It's the great unknown at times. You're trusting people you don't know to tell you the truth. And all too often people use that to an unfair advantage. If you look at the Yelp reviews for other businesses you'll see how many of them are untrustworthy. But these guys rock. Alan and Dave took care of my vehicle and were straight forward about it. You can tell they're the kind of guys who love cars in general and then made a career out of it. Midas is best known for brakes and alignment work but they do a number of other services so check them out even if you just need an out change. No up-charges here, no BS, just a good garage that gets the job done at a fair price. I'm not the first guy to give these gentleman five stars because they are well worthy of the rating. read more
