I took my daughter's Bronco Sport in for an oil change and a tire rotation, but fluid checks so that it was safe for her to go back to college. John sent me a picture showing the water pump had a small leak. He informed me that it would be warranty at a Ford dealership and helped me with the documentation. His paperwork included a web link to the vehicle's full inspection. Super honest guy. The pricing, scheduling, drop off and pick up all were easier / better than expectations. The shop is very clean and they work on everything from classic cars to daily drivers to fleet vehicles and do it all from tires to engine and transmission work. Unlike other places, John did not try to get the add on sales. I went from his shop to the Ford dealership to deal with the water pump and while the Ford dealership did agree to the water pump under warranty, they had some suggested add ons to extract more cash. I like dealing with an independent honest shop like Chapman Automotive. I highly recommend Chapman Automotive. read more

Been visiting Chapman's for a number of years with no problems. No longer. I've given them $1000 of dollars and had very good results, up to now. Took my Mercedes in a few weeks ago for a problem and they charged me $100. OK, but nothing was fixed. Took it back a few days later and this time it was $432. Still not fixed. Been working with the owner, John Chapman, but he's now decided not to talk with me. Always too busy and NEVER returns my calls. Do yourself a favor and use a different shop. I came here for an oil change for my Rav4 and was pleased with the quality of service! My appt was for 215, but John let me know he had a rush of cars come in and to come back at 3. This allowed me to run a few errands with the free time. When I got back at 3, John took my car in right away and the techs started working on my car. I was out of the door by 4! The most honest and friendly, knowledgeable and quick auto shop you'll find!!! Frankly, I lost faith in mechanics years ago. I had decided that I was going to work on my cars and that was that. Unfortunately that was a lofty goal, and frankly unattainable with the demands of maintenance that comes with having multiple vehicles. I had taken my series 100 Lexus lx470 (land cruiser) to at least 3 separate shops around San Diego. All said that the engine was shot, wouldn't hold compression, and assured me I needed new heads or recommended an engine swap. After letting the vehicle sit for almost 2 years. John and the team at Chapman's had the car for a day before telling me they solved the problem. I'm now driving the cruiser everyday and it drives like newTheir ability to diagnose and troubleshoot is on another level - think investigative automotive, lol. Called to make appointments for me and my husband. Guy makes a point to tell me he will not do appointments back to back for same customer. No problem I understand completely, if they don't show, he loses 2 slots back to back. No big deal. I made an appointment for my car, and would leave my other car there to be done thru out the day. 2. I was 20 min late to my appointment (sorry we have dogs and kids) and I had to have someone take us both since both our cars would be there. I walked in the door, all the guy John said was "your late" not welcome not even hey there you are, just rude. He did a crap job on my truck. Didn't top off fluids or anything. Just a bad experience. I was searching on Groupon for a good priced oil change deal and found Chapman's on there but saw on the reviews that they have better deals on their website. I decided to go that route and I called to make an appointment and was able to get in the next day! They are efficient and very knowledgeable about repairs etc. They have a large lobby that is nice and cool with A/C and free coffee. Chapman's was great, it's a small family owned business and you can tell they really care about their customers here. John gets on the phone and says you have to come now and I don't feel comfortable scheduling an appointment for you for tomorrow. Then says I can't guarantee anything now, you will just have to wait. John and his team have been so good to me. John saved me from getting scammed by another auto repair shop in San Diego. I believe the engine heater hose broke and another auto shop tried to quote me 9,000.00 and told me I needed to get a whole new motor. Also it would take a month and half to repair. I went to Chapman and John told me that just my hose needed to be replaced. He told me the other shop would have just prettied up my existing motor and would have sold me my own motor for 9k. Chapman replaced the hose and gave me back my vehicle the following day after I had it towed to them. read more

Edit: Came in November 19 2019. Just saw this on my Yelp profile and figured I would rate my experience. Came in for an oil change. Got a Groupon online and ended up having to pay an extra $8. Said on the Groupon it covered the oil change but apparently they still had a fee which wasn't listed. Wasn't worth my time to fight it so I accepted it. Took about an hour and a half, they were busy so I don't mind that part. The part that is wrong is after they told me I needed new tires. They kept trying to push me to get new tires right then when I was trying to get my keys back. Saying they highly recommend I get them now because my current ones are going bad. The thing they didn't know is I had gotten new tires (Costco ones so not cheap) a few months before that. I took it down to discount tire about half a mile away just to confirm and they said they are basically new (which they were but I didn't tell them). Not sure if I just got a bad employee that was trying to sell me tires or what. But their are other mechanics less than a mile away that are more trustworthy that won't try to sell you on new tires read more

Found a coupon for this place and went to get my oil changed. SUCH COOL PEOPLE! The guy behind the counter helped me clear up some misconceptions about cars and taught me a few new things while he was at it. They changed the oil and rotated my tires in record time. I think they told me it'd be about an hour to an hour and 15 minutes but it didn't even take nearly an hour. My Honda CRV 2014 had a dying battery along with two front tires that were on their last legs. I arrived at the company counter, told my sad story, and the man, Bob, immediately had a mechanic, John, check the battery, told me what I knew: it was weak. He also checked and told me what I also guessed: tires were in need of replacing, tread was worn thin and with a hole, plus two already patched holes from earlier times, elsewhere. John gave me an affordable estimate of all work and replacements, and since it would take 2 hours, Bob drove me home, and then picked me up, later, for return trip to my finished and waiting car. It was no hassle, good prices, and a pleasant waiting room with coffee and magazines, plus, a sweet old dog whose owner, I think is Bob. I could see that he is a very good, thoughtful pet owner, From the beginning conversation, I knew these men were trustworthy, honest and had integrity. Should any other problems arise, I will seek them out for help. Also,their location is on Pacific, though they have a San Marcos Blvd. address.
