NC Automotive came highly recommended by a long time friend. The first thing I noticed was was the shop's cleanliness, quickly followed by the warm welcome of Cindy at the front desk. Then came the service. I dropped my wife's minivan off to have the front brakes replaced. There was excellent communication throughout the whole process, including a very thorough written assessment of the whole vehicle, which included color photos and a write-up of not only the issues I knew I had, but other areas of concern that were identified during the the initial inspection. The quoted price was fair, I approved the work and the brake service was completed the same day, because they had the parts in stock. When my wife came to pick up, she was thrilled to find that Eric (the owner) had not only completed the work quickly, but also solved a curious situation that we had been dealing with: when making left hand turns, the van would alert us that the sliding door was not closed, even though it clearly was. As it turned out, the little rubber boot that covered the sensor/switch for that door had become worn enough to keep it from being pressed completely which caused the car to think that the door was open. In closing, I now understand why this shop came so highly recommended. I can't think of a single reason why I'd take my car anywhere else. I have a 2012 Ford Escape that had been neglected over the last few years. Found this shop through AAA. Rex and everyone are really outstanding. They went above and beyond to get my mess of a car back to purring like a kitten. I had to get a new battery installed (among other things) and needed to get the car smogged, they drove it around for me until that was possible, which is really not their job. I can't recommend this place enough. My car was in the shop for a few days and I was always informed of what they were doing, when they thought it would be ready, and how much it would cost. Complete transparency and exemplary professionalism, not to mention just really good guys. Rex should bring his pugs to the shop though, maybe but them in little mechanic outfits, otherwise there is literally nothing this shop could do to improve. read more

Most recently, he serviced my 2013 model SUV with 102K miles. At this age and mileage I knew it probably needed some work. We found North County Automotive "by accident" but not because of an accident. :-) We've been using them ever since. We've taken four of our cars there over time -- mostly to keep up with regular maintenance. Owner (and head mechanic) is knowledgeable, skilled, honest and humble. The charges are fair. He doesn't do work that doesn't need to be done. He looks out for the safety of the vehicle. He recently was also able to fix an electrical issue in one of our power seats -- something we would typically have needed to take to an electrical shop. First to start off with this place has a very nice secretary. Now to why I brought my car in, I had a misfire that I couldn't diagnosis myself and wanted to get an answer. Dropped the car off for a diagnostic at 9:30 and received a phone call around 1:00. The mechanic said that they've done tests and still couldn't figure out what the issue was. Also said they're gonna need more time to find out what the problem is. At this point I was charged for more time to figure out what's going on. Fast forward to 4:30 I get a call saying they've narrowed it down but wasn't still 100% on what the problem was. Now I understand it's tricky with an engine misfire but I could read the code that said cylinder 5 misfire and replace the fuel injector, after I already replaced the spark plugs and ignition coils. After picking the car up I go home and get a call the next morning that they forgot to put my engine cover back on. What the okay cool I'll come by and pick it up. Get to the shop the cover is on the ground next to the door. After saying I'm not gonna go through with them installing parts I decided I'll do it myself since I know how to. Now as I'm working on my car I notice my positive module on my battery has a cover was not on and just sitting next to it. That's not right, then I continue to my engine where they ripped my heat shield foam that protects the coils and wiring from the manifold. Not very pleased with how my car was handled. read more

I am so grateful to finally find a trustworthy repair shop that does great work at a great price. My Jeep seemingly "blew up" on the freeway, spewing smoke and steam and the engine shut down completely. I was sure I'd blown an engine on my 153,000 mile Jeep Wrangler. I had met Erik at a neighborhood event and he seemed like a very knowledgeable great guy, so I had the car towed to his shop and dropped after hours. He called me early the next morning to let me know I had blown the radiator and that he had already ordered a new one. Also, he found a couple of other items that definitely needed attention while he had it up on the rack and gave me a quote to take care of everything. He had pressure checked the cooling system and compression checked the engine and assured me that it was not damaged. Car was ready that night running better than it had in a long time, and the cost was about half of what I thought it would be. I highly recommend North County Automotive. They are awesome! read more

After reading Erik's reply I cannot say that I feel any different about this shop's honesty. I received one email from Erik, on 6/27/18 so I would not say I have received "multiple" attempts at communication. With regard to the estimate and the diagnosed problems, I suppose we will just have to take your word that there indeed was a blown head gasket problem and that problems will surface in the future. For now, the car is still running smoothly with no problems resurfacing. I apologize if you disagree with my post but I do believe my young and naive son came very close to being charged over $4K for repairs that may or may not have been necessary. read more

I brought my car in for air conditioning repair after I had gotten two previous estimates ranging from $1500 on up to $3000 (obviously by a shop that didn't want to tackle the job.) They told me they would have to take out the entire dash to get to the parts and it was a difficult job. Needless to say I was discouraged by these evaluations. I decided to get one more estimate and by a stroke of good luck I found Eric at North County Automotive. First of all he has a positive, can do attitude. He presented in a professional and knowledgeable manner and explained that there could be a few things causing the problem. After inspecting he said the A/C needed a mode door actuator and a blend door actuator. The estimate was $1000 at most. I authorized the work. He was able to install both parts by only removing the glove box, not the entire dash, and best of all the price was $700! I am so thrilled with Eric and the office staff at North County Automotive. I usually take my 2012 Toyota Sienna to Toyota of Escondido every 5000 miles for its complimentary care oil change and multipoint safety inspection and because it is still under warranty. Well the last time I went in my air conditioning had gone out and they told me that to see if there was a leek they were going to charge me $250 for them to put dye in the system and I told them no I will take it to someone else. So I took it to Erik at North County Automotive and he discovered that my radiator that was replaced 2 1/2 years earlier had been installed incorrectly and not even attached to the frame of my van. So congrats to Erik being able to diagnose and notice a BIG problem that the Toyota "professionals" didn't notice the 8 times I took it in for its multi point inspection and the 1 time I asked them to see why my van isn't blowing cold air! read more

Magnificent! I went into this establishment for a vehicle diagnosis because I had a pesky check engine light that needed to be checked. Erik the awesome mechanic was able to spot the issue and didn't pressure me to fix everything. He was able to describe my vehicle issue with ease and educated me on the appropriate steps needed to fix the problems. I did not feel pressured to pay for things I felt were unwanted and he was able to take me in immediately. My car has been running smooth ever since. As far as the prices, he was the most affordable around and they were able to save me money short term and long term. The service I received here from North County Automotive was top notch. I have found my family mechanic with a family like atmosphere. I had my girlfriend get an oil change there and they were prompt and gave her the best oil and oil filter with a great price.
