Called around 10:45am to schedule an oil change I was told the only available times are 1:30 or 2pm. I ended taking the 1:30 appointment, but when i arrived my car wasn't started being worked on until 2...ok. For a simple oil change and i guess inspection took almost 3 hours?! Didn't leave out of there until almost 4:30. Technician kept telling me it's done and almost done for an hour. Don't lie just tell me how long it gonna be, i would've gone else where. If you're looking for a place for emissions testing. Avoid this place. Went to this shop on a Saturday afternoon around 3pm to have an emissions test done. The guy at the front said there were three people ahead of me. The place did seem busy so I said I'd run some errands and come back. He cautioned that they would shut down the machine at 5pm sharp. I returned at 4:30 pm and a woman who said she had been waiting 2+ hours for an oil change (!) mentioned that she had witnessed people being processed pretty quickly for oil changes at about 15 minutes each. At 4:30, the same guy told me, "Sorry, there are three people ahead of you." There wasn't anyone in the waiting room beyond the woman with the oil change and a couple waiting for a repair. I asked him, "Where are they?" and he had the chutzpah to try and gaslight me and say, "I don't know. They're walking around." I told him that was bullshit and he was straight up lying and left. I could see they were busy with the couple of folks they were already servicing and it was the end of a hectic day. That's fine. I could understand if he said something along the lines of "I'm so sorry. We're straight out and I don't think we'll have the time." I had the three year alignment subscription and I have been here. I took my car for wheel alignment and i was never given an alignment report. I requested one and however still ended up not getting any. The pricing with this guys is a disaster as I took my 2019 Honda CRV for an engine oil change. I went the day before and was told it was 84$ plus tax and surprisingly the next day I show to a different guy at the desk it is 92$. I asked about it - and they said it is what it is. PLEASE stay away from this place! I got my car towed to this location and they charged me $169 for a diagnosis. They found out that a coil was damaged so I asked them to replace it; however, they said that they couldn't guarantee me that that would make my car start, which means that they would have to do more diagnosis until they actually find out what the program was. That's not right. What's the point of paying $169 for a diagnosis? How many diagnosis did they need to conduct before they figured out what the problem was? That's a rip off. I ended up towing my car to a different mechanic. A very frustrating experience! Again, stay away from this place if your car needs a diagnosis. read more

One (1) of my exhaust gaskets between the exhaust manifold/catalytic converter and middle exhaust pipe rusted out, and my car sounded like a truck. I needed a shop to replace the gaskets. I had an appointment for an estimate with Midas on Main Avenue in Norwalk. CT. Within 20-minutes, the Head Tech (manager?) had me under the car and explained that he could not "just replace the gaskets" because of the rusty bolts, but gave me an estimate to replace both exhaust manifold/catalytic converter pipes, middle pipe, and gaskets. The estimate came to $2800 for parts and $1250 for labor. Sales tax and "shop supplies" added another chunk of change, and my total estimate was $5142.00. He also added that Midas offered a finance plan to help me with the payments! Gee, thanks. I promptly drove to my neighborhood garage and asked them for an estimate to replace the gaskets. I was quoted 1-hour labor plus the cost of gaskets. I had them do the work and happily paid them $268.00 out the door. Needless to say, I recommend you stay away from Midas on Main Avenue in Norwalk. read more

I needed CT emission testing to be performed. I called ahead and spoke to Matthew who is a really nice guy. I brought my car in and Matthew relayed that the testing would be done within 30 mins. I went across the street to Bobs (where your weekend begins), shopped a little and came back about 40 mins later. Voila the car was done. If I could give bonus stars I would!!! I was changing my own oil and had an issue with the filter that I was unable to resolve myself. I called on a Saturday about 30 minutes before they were closing and asked whether they could help me out. Not only were they incredibly nice but, gracious as well and said bring it in. I was notified by the DMV that my mother's car needed to get emissions testing. I called Midas and they said it was first come first serve during their business hours. I went down there and was lucky, as they were working on other cars, but no one was waiting for emissions. I don't remember his name, but a big, tall fellow with a beard seem to be running things, and he was as pleasant as can be. I was very quickly in and out of there and things were done efficiently and professionally. During my very short weight, I struck up a conversation with someone waiting for their car who is having an oil change. She said she always comes to this place because they do a good job and they don't keep her waiting unnecessarily. Having discovered an honest and professional shop so close by I will use them for my car and my mother's car whenever routine things are required, such as oil changes, etc. read more

Really fantastic shop for people who enjoy dealing with numb skulls and getting screwed. Called in advance to MAKE SURE THEY COULS PUT COOLANT in my car. They said yes. I drove my car that had just overheated 45 seconds to get to them. I had just broken down. I'm a mechanic, trained, and know what I'm talking about. My radiator hose blew off and I desperately needed coolant. What happened when I got there is beyond infuriating. They try and capitalize on the fact that I'm desperate and say, "we can't give you coolant, we have to charge you $160 for a flush." What a JOKE. It's a machine that does a flush first of all, so $160 is a total rape to your pocket and secondly... my problem was that my radiator hose came off because I didn't put it in correctly. My bad. But to deny me coolant? Sayings it's company policy to not sell coolant? Like what bastards.... seriously. Total bastards. Car lost most of its coolant and they're trying to screw me. What a bunch of junkies. The older guy with the peppered hair was the real scoundrel. Couldn't even be apologetic or sympathize, straight up cold hearted dude. I followed the instructions on the Midas website which prompted me to get an estimate via email. I provided the information on my car and requested an estimate for break pad replacements. I received a call shortly after to set up an appointment - when I let the caller know that I followed the instructions on the Midas web site and would like an estimate .... His reply was very rude and told me I would need to make an appointment and they would provide an estimate at that time. Clearly if someone takes the time to go to Midas, there is a greater chance they use their service. When I told him that I was only following the process outlined on the Midas website - he simultaneously said have a nice day and hung up. Came to Midas today for my emission test. While I was paying for my emission charge, I asked how much would cost to replace the starter. I recently replaced my starter else where and I just wanted to find out. Let me just say the estimate cost that Midas gave me to replace my starter was twice more what I had paid. The reason I asked was because in the past I also came here for my brakes and Midas gave me an estimated of over $1,000 along with parts that didn't need to be replaced then I brought to somewhere else and cost was around $500. I gave the Midas staff the feedback, he basically became very rude, aggressive and he told me you don't have to come here again. I was like really... for sure I won't, this place like to over charge customer and they are not honest. read more

After some post service research, I realize I probably paid close to $800 more than I could have if I had taken it to another mechanic. There should be more care and explanation for the cost of certain services, not just "you should replace these ". I still can understand why certain parts I got and labor costs what they did. I have had two experiences with this Midas and both were bad. A couple of years ago I brought my car in and they tried to tell me I needed thousands of dollars of repairs to my car. I couldn't afford it so I told them to fix just the emergency stuff and it still was over a grand. Took it to my normal place and they told me there was nothing wrong with the car. My mother just had basically the same interaction, only in her case she had been told two weeks ago that her car was in fine shape (minus the brake pads which were wearing out) so she brought it to them to fix... And guess what! Thousands of dollars of repairs are needed. Do. Not. Go. Here. They are scam artists and rude on top of it. read more

I brought my car in for an oil change - they were able to fit me in with an appointment the same day and I waited about an hour. The staff at Midas were very professional and helpful. They gave me fair prices and treated me with respect, which as a woman isn't always the case at car dealerships/auto body repair shops. They explained everything to me and answered all my questions. Called Midas and asked for estimate for brake pads only. Desk person said I needed to come in to measure size of rotor to get price for correct pads. Ok so I said I'd come right in. Get here and the desk person said they will do full inspection and it will only take 45 minutes to an hour. The place is very quiet so I say sure. It's now has been 1:45 and I still don't have estimate or my car. Although the mechanic said I also need rotors. I very nicely told the front desk person twice I need to get back home. They did work on my Tahoe in 2016 and not only did they identify a problem and chose to fix but they installed the part wrong and caused further internal damage and said they were not responsible. 6/25/19 I finally have my registration plate for a 15 year old Karavan boat trailer that I purchased in RI along with a 17 ft Boston Whaler; thanks to the Midas team. DMV gave me a temporary plate and told me to have the boat inspected to verify the VIN number. I asked who could do this and the DMV gave me a number of places including Midas. The left rear signal, brake and night light needed to be replaced as well. I called Midas and I was told that the inspection and repair could be done. Unfortunately, the VIN number on the trailer could not be found ( the sun completely bleached the old plate). The Midas manager said I would need to take the trailer to Hamden DMV (there are only 2 inspection stations in the state, Hamden and Wethersfield),to obtain a VIN verification. They did repair my broken light and needed to rewire the whole trailer light system because of a lot of connections corroded from being in and out of salt water. The inspector in Hamden said I would need to contact Karavan trailer company which I did and was able to purchase new VIN stickers. Midas team inspected the trailer with new Vin numbers and I was able to obtain my new license plate. This whole process took over a week to do. I feel the Midas team did everything to assist me with repairs and to give me appropriate information at a fair price. I would highly recommend the Norwalk Midas Team. Roger W. You should avoid this Midas shop. I brought my car in and asked for a quote to replace the break pads. After 40 minutes they came back and told me that I would have to replace the pads, the rotors and the calipers on all four wheels. The price was astronomical. I decided to take the car to my dealer and get a second opinion. They told me that the pads need to be changed but that the rest of the breaks were just fine. Here's a tip. If this Midas shop tells you need a significant service, thank them and take your car elsewhere for a second opinion. read more

This is for the Midas in Norwalk on Main Ave. My tires were low because of cold temps the prior nite, so I stopped in at Midas on the chance that they would fill them as a favor. They were happy to do it. Since I was due for an oil change, I asked.. and lo and behold they were able to fit me in right then... I was in and out in 25 minutes. They found a couple issues and actually SHOWED me on the car.. told me if I ever wanted to get them fixed, they could help. I did not feel like I was getting upsold anything. As a woman, I always worry that I will get ripped off on any car repairs. The person who helped me, TJ, was wonderful. He has been at this location for 12 years, which says something about the stability of place. read more

First off, I brought my car in because my brake lights had been coming on and off. Finally, the light was solid and I knew I couldn't drive for much longer, but I am a mom, I need my car. So when I brought it in, I didn't need to be judged for driving my car across town for a week with the light on. That was completely unnecessary to be told, "So you been driving this thing with the brake lights on for a WEEK?" with side eyes. So, I left my car with them and got a ride home and waited for the call. A few hours later I get a call telling me that I was "just in time." As if my car was going to implode spontaneously. They told me that my brakes in the back were completely shot, that my right caliper was leaking brake fluid etc etc. When I asked for how much it would be, they started adding things up and the price was about $1,400+ when I cut him off. I said I would just take the car back because I couldn't afford that. When I said this, the response was, "We have financing." When I said no thank you, I would take my car back I was told, "Well, this is super dangerous. I wouldn't drive this thing, you should have it towed." As if I didn't drive it there with no issue 2 hours earlier. So, I picked up my car and took it to my dad's mechanic who I should have gone to originally. I didn't tell him what Midas had to say, just waited for his call. When he called me back and told me similar issues to what Midas said, I asked how much. I was told $200. Midas was going to charge me $1,200 MORE than what was needed. $1,200!!! A bunch of thieves. Don't go to Midas in Norwalk, CT. They are just looking to scam you. read more

Needed two new tires on my way from NYC to the Cape, and after trying a couple of other places that couldn't help, I wound up here. The guy at the desk, Matt, was really friendly and professional, gave me a few options, explained everything I needed to know to make a decision, and got the car up and the old tires off. Fair price, fast, and courteous. Normally there's a grim and angry mood in car repair places, but the people who work here and the other customers are all smiles. If I could leave less than one star, I would. I chose this shop because it didn't have worse reviews than others I'd seen - first mistake. I showed up right before work and knew I needed and oil change and some brake work done. I get a call a couple hours later with a laundry list of items that allegedly needed to be repaired - alignment, struts, calipers, brake pads, brake rotors, oil change, and wiper blades (mind you, I could see just fine while driving, so I'm not sure where the need for wiper blades came from). They quoted me $3800! When I asked what they could do for me because that price was absurd, they told me about their credit card, as if I don't already have enough lines of credit, as someone who has student loans, other credit cards, a car payment, etc. I asked if there was anything else that could be done. The manager calls me back and brings the estimate down to $3200. There was a bit of back and forth and he finally brings it down to around $1050 - this really makes me wonder how they went from such a large number to a still, slightly-less expensive amount. I ended up going to Best Brake in Stratford, a shop that was recommended to me by a friend at work, with 4.2 stars on Google, and which has been BBB accredited since 2005 (Midas in Norwalk is not). I was told that I did not need all the items that I was told at Midas (a real shocker) and was quoted $360! What a relief! I will never recommend Midas in Norwalk. I should have checked with my coworkers before bringing my car by, as they said they've been scammed by Midas before. read more

Dangerously installed the wrong lug nuts onto my wheels (employees simply installed regular nuts instead of the correct acorn nuts and charged me ~$8 each). I wasn't informed that incorrect parts were installed on my vehicle and my wheels were damaged as a result. I have an ongoing complaint with Midas corporate and will seek full refund and repair for damages incurred. Some auto shops are bad, this one in my case was dangerous. Talked to them on the phone three days ahead of time to explain exactly what was going on several days in advance. Dropped off my car on Saturday at 1:30. Got a call at 5:30pm saying they didn't have the right parts and I said I would just take the car back without the service. They said they wouldn't let me have my car back without charging me for labor (for not fixing anything). They were closed on Sunday but assured me they'd get it done first thing on Monday. I called at 10:45 and still no part. I just want my car back so I can take it somewhere I trust, but they've now got it hostage and won't give it back unless I pay them. Never again. read more

Beware of this Midas shop at 377 Main Ave in Norwalk. My daughter had some work done on her car there last year. She was furloughed from her job due to Covid so she had to finance part of her bill ($1550) with a company that Midas uses, Easypay Finance from Carldbad, Calif. After a year she could not understand why she still owed $1100 on a $1550 bill. I am her dad (from NJ) and she asked me to look into the situation. After finally tracking down the company and getting permission to access my daughter's account, I was astonished and taken aback by the finance rate my daughter was being charged! Can you believe 95.99%!? This is not a typo. It's no wonder why she couldn't pay off this loan in a year. Is this rate even legal? I called Easypay and they were uncooperatve with me in trying to find a solution to maybe refinance. I then contacted Midas headquarters in Florida and expained the problem. Customer Relations there told me that many Midas locations are independent franchises but they would reach out to the Norwalk location and see what they could do. I did receive a call from a guy named Matt and he essentially told me that's the company they use and he could not do anything about it. He said my daughter should have paid off the loan in 90 days so she wouldn't be in this predicament. Sarcastically speaking, that was surely comforting to hear, but she was only collecting unemployment at the time and could only pay the required minimum monthly payment. He was totally unsympathetic to the finance charge (95.99%) and more or less told me that's the way it is and he could not and would not offer any alternatives. That is just not good customer relations and I urge all future customers needing car repair to look elsewhere. Just read other customer reviews about this location. I wish my daughter had.
