Came to Midas today for my emission test. While I was paying for my emission charge, I asked how much would cost to replace the starter. I recently replaced my starter else where and I just wanted to find out. Let me just say the estimate cost that Midas gave me to replace my starter was twice more what I had paid. The reason I asked was because in the past I also came here for my brakes and Midas gave me an estimated of over $1,000 along with parts that didn't need to be replaced then I brought to somewhere else and cost was around $500. I gave the Midas staff the feedback, he basically became very rude, aggressive and he told me you don't have to come here again. The men who work at Midas in Norwalk are pathetic with their b.s. mansplaining. Liars and sexist. They think they have all the answers and are talking to stupid women. Quoted me double the price that two other auto/brake shops quoted me. I only came here because it's closest to my LAW OFFICE so I wanted a quote. I'm doing research and have recorded everything. The guy at front desk gave me some bullshit about the other quotes being bogus because "they won't tell you everything that's wrong." Oh yeah? Two other shops including my dealership of 30 years, quoted between $249 -$325. Of course the so called "men" at Midas (both in back and in front of shop) told me this isn't possible and others are duping me. Ive had cars for decades and several cars at a time and I know what a routine brake job is. I also know when I need and don't need roters! Not only could I confirm this on my own, my husband did too before I even went to the dealership. I've never checked out Midas before ever and Now I know why. NEVER AGAIN. This manshit Midas quotes $455 and told me parts I needed that diagnostics of two other places said I did not need. I got my car out of this dump quickly!!! Please please take your car elsewhere and heed all the negative reviews here. I plan to spread the word widely. They unfortunately messed with the wrong person and don't know my revered position in this area. Hundreds of people will be informed. I wish I had listened to the other negative reviews. A few weeks back, my old Trailblazer's brakes started to howl, so i called Midas for an ASAP appointment. Matt answered the phone and told me to come right in, and promised to get the job done in about two hours, even if they had to stay past closing. So I headed across the street, picked up a salad at Stop & Shop, a craft beer and cigar at Total wine, tapped into their wifi and watched some Sherlock on Netflix. As they neared the end of their day, Matt came out and gave me a detailed diagnostic on the other systems that were heading for trouble, printing out a detailed estimate of each job. While I waited for the job to be completed, we talked cars, tuners. A real pleasure to talk to someone who knows their job and loves their company. Bottom line, Matt made a bad afternoon better than bearable. I hope Midas Corporate knows just how good this shop is. PS. Checked out his estimates with two other repair shops. I wish I could give 0 starts as 1 seems to generous.made an appointment yesterday morning to come in today at 10:00am and at 11:20am my car still wasn't even pulled into the shop. As you can see through the window into the shop I see five employees having lunch and joking around with each other. I politely asked for my keys and walked out. Never again Midas. I agree with the reviewer who wishes they could give zero stars. I recently had a full inspection done on my car in another state as I was going to be driving several thousand miles. The reports from that location came back that my car was in great shape and would be good for travel. After taking my car to this location for a simple oil change they tried to up sell me on which kind of oil after I repeatedly said I just needed the basic. I was then told my car would need over $900 in repair work - not including labor - and that if I couldn't afford it I could finance. I had never mentioned not being able to afford the quote. When I said no, I was pushed pretty hard to at least do half of their services. After telling him that I would take a quote but wanted to check elsewhere I was told my car was not safe to drive. Again, I had just had a full service check done 3,000 miles prior at a trusted mechanic that I had been to several times saying that my car had a clean bill of health. Midas employee also stated several "facts" about my car that I know to be untrue including original parts that needed replaced when I know they aren't original, etc. The whole experience was incredibly shady & pushy. Every other customer in the store while we were there had to argue & push back on prices or additional services. This is worst customer service experience I have ever had. I saw a commercial on TV suggesting that Midas would rotate the tires when they do an oil change. This sounded good, but in reality they're looking to do brake work too, telling me my front rotors were scored. Hold on... all brake rotors get scored - but honestly, mine are still in great shape. When I told them I didn't want to change them today - they got pissy and started to move in slow motion. I had to wait another hour for them to put the wheels on my car. Lesson learned. read more

I went today to get an oil change because everywhere else i called was super expensive. I got basic oil which i think was $20 plus $7 for something to flush out all the sludge bc it had been a long time since i had my oil changed. The guy came out and told me that my battery wasn't running the way it was supposed to, i needed to balance my tires and that everything else looked fine. I know for a fact that i need a new air filter bc my car smells when i turn on the AC and they failed to mention that. Also i felt as though they were trying to sell me things bc i am a woman and he felt he could get one over on me. He wasn't rude or anything i just would rather not be pushed into anything, all i wanted was an oil change. I can have my dad change the battery for way cheaper. These guys are the best. I met with Matt, the Midas front counter service guy who greeted me after I walked into the waiting area of the local Midas store at 377 Main Ave in Norwalk. I needed an oil change. Matt knew who I was since I had an appointment and had researched the past history on my car. In less than ten minutes, the car was up on the lift and being worked on! I had an issue with the shop about year ago that I wish I had handled more professionally. The manager TJ remembered me and he didn't have to help me with my problem. I probably would not have if I were him. Anyway, he stood behind the work that they did, even though the warranty had recently expired. I had other work done there as well and they did a great job. By being professional and courteous, TJ won back a customer and I'd be happy to recommend them. Personal service goes a long way with me and he went out of his way to make sure I was taken care of. read more

Had struts replaced on a 1999 Acura RL, they charged 2X the amount for parts, and ended up paying $1,800 for work that other shops are charging 950. The manage Jose advised tie rod ends needed to be replaced. We checked with two other repair shops, and it was not needed. This shop is a rougue shop and must be put out of business. Do not have work done here, you will be ripped off. Had a break job done in Jan 2014, they changed caliphers and resurfaced the rotors, however when breaking 5 months later, there is vibration in the steering wheel. I took the car back there, and they wanted me to pay $200.00 to have the rotors resurfaced. read more

Can I give zero stars? They told me I couldn't get my oil changed because I needed a new oil pan. They said the last place that gave me an oil change jammed the oil plug and they wanted to charge me over $600! On top of this they said my car needed more work, so ultimately I was looking at $1300 worth of work. I went to Hank May's Goodyear the next day and was able to get my oil changed. All I needed was a new oil plug which cost me $10. Midas tried scamming me. Awful place. Do not go there. read more

Bunch of con-artists at this Midas. Took my girlfriends car for an oil change, and got back a repair invoice for over $2,000. Their con might have worked on someone who does not know anything about cars, but this immediately raised red flags. I got the oil change done and scheduled the next maintenance at the dealer. Dealer did an inspection and found everything that Midas wanted to replace in perfect working order. Stay away from this place! read more

While traveling on business, I stopped in for an oil change, and was in and out quickly enough. While I was on the road back to Boston, I noticed a strange sound coming from my car. I pulled over, and realized that they had completely removed the plastic shielding on the undercarriage of my car, and had broken all of the fasteners while they were at it. So it was just flapping in the wind while driving. This shielding needs to come off and be reattached during every oil change, but they did not bother to unattach it correctly, they just ripped it off. Now it's completely broken beyond repair, and I have to use plastic tie wraps to fasten it. Imaging what I'm going through with subsequent oil changes now. Thanks Midas! read more

Went in to get my headlights fixed. Figured it would be a piece of cake. They told me there was something wrong with the wiring, so I left the car with them over the course of a day. After $160, the lights worked... for about a week. I called them to tell them I was upset, and they did not care nor make any offer to make me a happier customer. Took the car to another mechanic, who diagnosed the issue immediately, and told me the folks at Midas ripped me off. Not going back there ever again. read more

I go there for oil change because they are cheap and close to me. The oil changes are okay but they've always push for really unnecessary services. Flush this, replace that, when i know those "recommendation" are completely unnecessary. If you go there, i recommend you closely review your car's maintenance manual and do only what's been recommended by your car's manufacturer. I personally wouldn't go there again. read more

Wish I read reviews before wasting my time. Went in knowing I needed brakes and rotors expected a quote around $500. After a few minutes they told me my calibers were seized and it was going to be a little over $1,000 and I couldn't drive it out bc of the calibers. I told them that was insane and I couldn't do that. Another guy came out and said he'd see what he could do, brought it down to $800, but I still wasn't having it. As I was waiting for them to put my wheels on an employee was saying how he was glad his wife's car got fixed and she's safe. Question. Why didn't you just fix it if you're a mechanic?? It finally took my boyfriend showing up and saying no for them to actually put the wheels back on my car so I could take it since they stood around not taking my no seriously..As they were putting my wheels back on a girl came in angry and started going off on an employee of rumors he'd been starting about her.. that right there showed me a lot about the guys working at this place... read more

I went to get my oil changed a few weeks ago and they ended up taking the entire front portion of my car apart without my permission and told me I needed nearly $1600 of work done on my car. All I wanted was an oil change. The day after, I pulled up next to a building and heard something rattling loudly, that was echoing off of the building from my car. I took it back to Midas to see what happened. They claim that nothing they did could have effected the now $700 of work that they added on top of the work they already recommended the previous day. Apparently now my entire catalytic converter needs to be replaced, yet they never took note of this upon the first visit. I am taking my business to a shop with experience and no franchise or corporate ties. I know these mechanics are probably pressured to sell up services, but come on, before you pull a car apart, ask the owner first. read more

Had to take jeep twice for tire alignment. Still not right. Also, they told me I had an oil leak, which I did not. Then the car started leaking oil after taking it out of the shop. I went to this location this past Saturday because I was having brake issues. Let me preface this by saying I've never been to a Midas in my life (and i will never go back). I don't believe they care about repeat business and their tactics while aren't illegal are highly unethical in my opinion. They use an old school mechanics tactic to sort of weigh you down in the hopes that you just say yes to whatever they find. I did their "free" detail inspection that included checking whether the windshield wipers worked. After the inspection that took over an hour the manager or assistant manager went through what they found with me. Mind you that Ive been waiting almost 2 hours at this point. They said i needed both pads and rotors and the bill would be around $1,100. After some quick googling and having done this type of work in the past i knew rotors and pads for front and rear would be around $600 max. They were willing to "work" with me and brought the bill down to $700 which i still wasn't happy about but my car was basically in pieces and they said it would take another 45 minutes to put it back together if i didn't want to do the work. I finally caved and just said do it. Oddly enough it took less time to do the brake work as it would have to put everything back together. After speaking to other brake specialists they told me the 99% of the time you can simply drive the car and look at the rotors without taking the wheel off to diagnose the problem. I also found a heavy scratch on a rim that looks like it was done from whatever tool they used to take the tire off and on (drill?). After showing the manager and assistant manager i had to deal with both of them verbally attacking me and calling me a liar. Implying that i was trying to pull a fast one on them. Having been there for most of the day i heard and saw the same tactic (detail safety inspection) being used on 2 other customers. one of which was in there for just an oil change and will likely go through the same experience. STAY AWAY! This place is a complete rip off. They charged me $500+ dollars for 4 pads and another 600 for rotors (i didn't get them). I knew my rotors were fine but I wanted to see the estimate. I always go to MAVIS and I feel like a complete moron for actually going to this place for pads. This will be one of my biggest regrets in letting these people rip me off. Not only did they take forever to put the pads on but I had to go back 4 times to get them adjusted because they screwed them up. I will never go here again and always tell people to go to MAVIS. They do $60 dollar pad jobs installed per axle. That is where I go from now on and I would highly recommend MAVIS. More professional and better quality service. read more

I had been using this shop for routine service on several vehicles for over 10 years and was generally satisfied with their service. I am an informed customer and was able to manage the usual upsell of services. Some things it makes sense for them to do, at the right time. Inevitably, they propose several thousand dollars of service. Yesterday, my wife took it upon herself to bring in her car for an oil change. We reviewed our records ahead of time and assured ourselves that an oil change and tire rotation was all that was required. Anything else and she should just say no, thank you. Sure enough, I get a call from the manager and he starts with trying to sell me a different grade of oil. No, thank you. Then he moves on to the struts based on the mileage and the fact that they had recommended this last visit. No thank you. I do not want aftermarket struts for this car. I remained polite and considerate throughout this exchange and ended by insisting on an oil change and tire rotation. When my wife returned home she announced that they refused to do the tire rotation based on the treadwear exceeding the legal limit. Total harassment. I had checked the tires a week ago and they are wearing evenly and well within usable and legal limits. Now I have to justify myself to my wife. I guess they dont want me as a customer any more. read more

I had my car serviced there last year and they left it unlocked in their parking lot after they had serviced it. My winter coat was stolen out of the back seat while in their possession. I reported this to corporate and had several conversations with the manager, Matt. He told me that his guys didn't see a coat in the backseat... and that maybe it was never there. (Not sure why they would be checking out what was in my back seat....) I wondered why they left it unlocked -- the manager told me that they can see the parking lot from the service area. Hmmm... I'm not entirely sure that they can watch my car while doing work on other cars. Belligerent and rude are the two words that come to mind. (I'm also quite certain that they overcharged me.) I asked to be re-imbursed for the cost of the coat to no avail. (The reason my car was there is that they had to redo work that had been done earlier in the year. My brake light came on recently so I pulled into Midas to see if they could tell me what was wrong with my car. They said it would only take 30-45 minutes for a free estimate. After an hour, a technician told me I needed new brake pads, rotors on front and rear and calipers on the rear. I said I did not have time to do that before work and I couldn't leave my car while the work as being done, and the technican replied that they had already taken everything apart on my car to measure for parts and it would be difficult to put it back together! I was given an estimate for over $1500 for the repairs! I was essentially forced to let them do the work because it would be hard to put the old parts back, even though I specifically said I didn't want them to start work, I just wanted to know what was wrong. As I was waiting, I began looking up the part numbers on my quote and found that they were marking up the parts by over 60%! I was told that online prices don't matter.
