I was borrowing my boyfriend's mom's car at 8am when the key fob decided to stop working in the pouring rain (disaster). Luckily it was parked in the same lot as Midas, which was generously open. I walked in and asked if they could help - Ray (the manager) and his team were so so helpful and warm. They unlocked the car with the dead key and helped me start it. Thank you SO much Ray and team! WARNING! AVOID THIS BAIT AND SWITCH! Letting you all know not to do business with Midas on the Post Rd. in Fairfield! Received a written quote for new brake pads and rotors last Thursday. The quote was for $1,090.00. Based on that quote, I made an appointment to have the work done today (4 days after receiving the written quote). Dropped the car off for the repairs. Received a phone call stating that the work that had been quoted would now cost $1,600.00!!! I asked them to honor their written quote. Then, they said that they would do the work for $1,400.00! (still 30% more than they had quoted...for exactly the same job...no additional parts or work that was not included in their original quote). This was the most unscrupulous bait and switch experience that I have ever had! I don't know how they can stay in business when they treat their customers so dishonestly. Just wanted to let my neighbors know about my experience, so they can avoid getting scammed by this local business. If I could give this business ZERO stars, I would! read more

went in for an oil change, of course the price deal of 59.99, didn't apply to my car, never mind it's not stated anywhere on the website. They also did a 21 point inspection, trying to add all these ridiculous things that are " recommended" by Mazda but oddly not in the service manual. Engine " tune up", haha, a bunch of useless crap they pour in the tank. Then they said I needed 4 spark plugs, total of $400!!!!, lol, ripoff central. Very cheery reception and was almost sold a 4 wheel brake and rotor job for $1,345. Until I called a local Mazda dealer who quoted me $850. "Do the right thing" I have dealt with Midas in Fairfield, Ct for well over 20 years. In that time I have never had a complaint. As a matter of fact, I have seen them go above board to satisfy customers. I have also dealt with NAPA Auto Parts for a number of years. Rarely have I had a problem, and when I did, they were always quick with a resolution. These two are NOT part of the nightmare I was placed into by a major auto dealership. Both #Midas and #Napa proved to go beyond expectations and deserve your business for it. My neighbor works at the dealership and offered to get me a steering gear box for my van at her cost, which was very nice of her. They didn't have the part so they ordered one from NAPA. When it was delivered to the dealership, I was notified and had my wife go down to the Parts Department and pay for it. I had Midas install the part because they have an extremely competent mechanic that has been working on my vehicle for as long as he has been employed there. There has never been an issue with installation of any kind. After receiving my van back, I drove no more than 30 miles before the gearbox secondary seal blew out while I was driving home with my family. It was near impossible to get it back to my house. It was there, in my driveway, that I discovered my power steering fluid all over my van and dripping onto the driveway. Midas confirmed the problem and notified me I would be liable for the labor to reinstall the part since the part was defective, not the installation of the part. And so I called the dealership I purchased the part from that guaranteed replacement. And here is where the nightmare begins. I called the parts department at the dealership and got into a pissing contest so I asked that my issue get escalated. I was told it would be. Hours later, nothing. So I filled out an online request form and received an email from an employee higher up the ladder. I told her of my problem and she suggested I speak to their Service Manager. I responded I would rather it be kept in house without any more of my involvement since it was already hostile with the parts department. The dealership said they would give me a new part but they would not replace it for free because they didn't install it. I can understand if there was a question of installation. By me or someone incapable of mechanics and not in the possession of a certificate from UTI or some other qualified school. The dealership also argued that since it came from NAPA, it was their responsibility. I sent another email to the higher-up, explaining my reasons as to why the dealership should assume liability and replace the part since the labor itself was 3.5 hours long. Quite expensive. She responded that I would be receiving a phone call the next day to resolve the problem. The next day, after some telephone tag, I was told by a Parts Manager in a very offensive way, that I was to call NAPA and speak to their representative as they were going to assume responsibility and pay for the labor. To which I was happy to call about. But once I did, I found some unpleasantness perpetrated by the dealership against my own character. NAPA was told by the dealership that, firstly, I purchased the part through my neighbor and NOT the dealership, so they weren't liable for anything but NAPA was. And then to top it off...they told the Representative from NAPA that I threatened to take the dealership to Small Claims Court!! I informed NAPA of the dealership's indiscretions as well as applauding NAPA for stepping up to the plate. All I really wanted was for the Dealership to do the right thing. All they wanted to do was the opposite. Bad mouth me and my neighbor and liable my good character. Presently, my van is being worked on, thanks to the good graces of Midas and NAPA. They made the effort to do the right thing regardless of what their actual liabilities were. It shows INTEGRITY in a company when they perform in manners like this. It shows Customer Worth when they act like this. I had a legitimately good experience with these folks. After driving over a bit of debris on the highway and having an exhaust pipe break itself off, I called them looking for a quick diagnosis of the issue. They had me in the door ten minutes later, and diagnosed the issue fifteen minutes after that. I was expecting an upsell, but the fixes offered were all necessary, no extra bits as far as I could tell. The price did seem steep, but after se checking around at other places I was familiar with, they seemed to be offering a very reasonable price, so I asked them to go ahead with the repairs. As it turns out, they were offering a good deal because of a price miscalculation on a part, but to their credit they admitted the mistake and took the cost on themselves rather than surprising me with a sudden price increase. And throughout my experience with them, they were friendly and helpful, providing accurate predictions of time required. They made a repair I was concerned about dealing with into a quick and easy process. read more

I was there for changing my brake pads, they ask for my social security number, " then I ask why you need my social security number? They reply just for the system". AVOID...the manager tried a classic auto repair scam. I asked for a brake inspection on a 46,000 mile Chevy vehicle. Diagnosis: at minimum needs new rotors, pads, recommended purchase of "Midas slide service" brake caliper lubrication, and absolutely can't leave without 20 new lug nuts at $180/set, discounted to $100. Total estimate just shy of $1,700. When I disputed the diagnosis I was told "the numbers don't lie" and I could take their estimate anywhere for comparison. So, I went to the Chevy dealership next door. Their diagnosis: rotors turned, new pads, no need for lug nuts, and caliper lube is a standard procedure included in ANY competent brake service. Total cost at Maritime Chevrolet a bit over $600. Pay $600 instead of $1700...THOSE numbers don't lie. read more

How to go from 5 stars to 1 star in one day. I would ignore all the other 5 star reviews as they too, like my old review were based on a completely different staff. I have been using these guys for many years. They have served me well with five star service. These people were not just a service shop, they were people I'd consider friends who treated me as such also. Now under new management, the new manager started off lying about that fact when I asked if they were under new management, ask me to bring it in right away, then looked at me like I was crazy when I said I'd wait. I explained I needed an assessment to determine what was causing a noise--I was not sure if it was a wheel bearing, exhaust leak, or what. Something that an experienced mechanic could determining in a few minutes. So I he told me to bring my vehicle in right away, and then did nothing with it, making me wait when they were obviously unprepared to access my issues. I didn't see any of my favorite mechanics. Just a lot of talk and no action. Typical of shops that gouge you by waiting until you are desperate to get your vehicle fixed and agree to anything. Well I voted with my feet. Formerly, if the shop could take me, they would take me right away, and if they could not, they would tell me when it was good to stop by, and if I would need to leave it. Often they did not charging me for assessing a problem, and they also allowed me to bring in my own parts for replacement, a significant cost savings. These folks wasted my time. And if you lie to me, and won't look me in the eye, guess what? I can't trust you and won't do business with you. NOT RECOMMENDED. read more

Wow! As a woman, I'm always hesitant about taking my car to the shop for repairs. Not so much with Midas in Fairfield. Never have I felt so well taken care of by a shop. All possible repairs were explained to me. Brian (the Assistant Manager) walked me through how my brakes system works in a way that I could understand. I never write reviews but because of the service I received at Midas Fairfield, CT - I just had to say something!! The manager Mike explained everything that was wrong with the car and actually walked me to the garage and physically showed me the worn out parts and hazardous tires. I saw the problems with my own eyes and was able to make sense of the bill. His assistant Zack was helpful over the phone while I explained what I thought was wrong with car. However the real wizardry lies in their mechanic Paul (the cat lover)! He went above and beyond to make sure my car was safe and fixed several little things I hadn't even noticed - these were not even on the bill - he did it "just because" they were broken and he could easily make them and my car better for me! Another example of amazing service! I just had Midas service my 2005 GMC Yukon as it was not blowing any hot air in the cabin and was running at a high rpm when idle. As you can imagine I was burning a lot of gas due to this. I called a dealership and they were quoting me for stuff that was not related to the problem! Midas identified the issue immediately and fixed it for half the cost of the dealership! The bottom line is always do your homework and trust this Midas, they have been in fairfield for decades for a reason. read more

These people saved me! I was traveling many miles from home when my brakes starting making an awful noise. My husband said to look for a Midas. Brian, the manager on duty, listened to my situation (my son had an admission interview at a local college within the hour) and helped me immediately. He could not have been kinder. We left the car with him and ubered to our appointment. Brian texted/called me the whole time giving me updates on the lack of brake pads, parts order, pricing, and timing of the fix. Been going to this Midas for years, last three trips in have been less than spectacular. First issue was being charged $10 to balance tires, after purchasing tires through them. And most recently, being told that they had to order the part three times, an online coupon that was offered was rescinded. I do not often write reviews, but felt compelled to warn others about this insanely greedy, over priced station. I simply got JUST my rear brakes, ONE caliper, and TWO rotors replaced. The quote I got from another Midas for the same work the next day? $600-700 dollars is what I was told from another Midas. This Midas charged me $1241 for the job. They took full advantage of a guy who does not have a single day off from work, and someone who does not know a lot about cars. They knew I needed brakes now or never. They tried to create awkward small talk but knew I was upset. When I called management to see if they can alter the cost to somehow a little more reasonable the manager said $50 refund or we can discount the front brakes. He admitted that it was over priced yet he offered only $50. He gave me a few days to decide if I'd rather have the discount on my front brakes or the $50. I declined the brake work. I would never get ripped off by these guys again. I called the regional manager back multiple times to inquire about the $50 credit but this coward wouldn't even answer his phone or return my calls. Bottom line? They charged me $1241 for a job that should have been HALF that. They are absolute crooks and took full advantage of someone that does not know much about cars. I will never in a million years go back to this place. I honestly don't know how these guys live with themselves. They rip people off and They know it. Oh, and the guy that took my car for a test drive was about 6'7" 300lb. My seat felt like a different car. On top of that? I heard them order pizza for lunch. Guess what was on my stearin get wheel? Pizza. Guess what my car reeked of? Nasty, chewed up pizza. Needless to say I was treated horribly and will never be paying ANY Midas a visit. Not just this one. I have used Fairfield Midas for all my car repairs for the past year or so. I would not bring my car anywhere else. They have consistently provided great service at a reasonable price. Joe, the owner, is honest and explains the needed services throughly. At one point, a mechanic at a different shop told me to sell my car because the engine needed to be completly replaced. I took it here for a second opinion. They fixed the engine for less that $500 and it has run for another 25,000 miles with no problem. I came in to get an oil change, tire rotation, alignment, and new brake pads on the rear. Upon pulling up, the assistant manager comes out and when I tell him what I want done, he says "Theres no way I can rotate these tires. You're going to need new front tires. I can look at these and tell you theyre below the standard." So I ask him to please test for that, since I'd like to see it on a piece of paper before purchasing a new tire based on his word. His response was, "Okay, but don't be surprised when the assessment says you need a new tire. I've been doing this for 10 years." I also told them I could feel the car was out of alignment. "How can you tell?" He asked. I had to laugh... because I can feel it's out of alignment. He must have thought I was an idiot. I left for them to do the oil change and assess the car. I come back, and they estimate for me 1600 dollars worth of repairs. They tell me I need new Pads and Rotars in the front and rear. Also... surprise surprise, I did not need new tires. They tested absolutely fine. The boys at this shop probably thought they saw me a mile away, good thing I know a thing or two about cars and I KNEW I didn't need new brakes in the front. These men tried to take advantage of me because I'm a young adult woman. They seriously tried to have me FINANCE the cost of the repairs. I took it to a firestone my parents use and paid 450$ For new rear brake pads and rotars, a rotation, and an alignment. Please, if you're a young woman or do not know a lot about cars, make sure you have more than one shop estimate your repairs before settling with this one. They are con artists who are just out to make money. read more

If you refuse, they will refuse to release your car saying it's "not safe." I had to get the BBB involved to get back the money I was owed. They are absolutely taking advantage of people. read more
