"Contaminated oil?" That is the color of newly changed oil.

This is the first and last time that I will be going to this midas. I would not recommend that you get your car inspected here. It is a money grab. They will look for the most insignificant reason to fail you so they can make more money off of you. They failed me for "streaky wipers." For one, there was no photo or video evidence of this in my report--just text. I asked them to show me the streaks and I couldn't make them out. They told me they would pass me if I paid $55 for new wipers and a $10 installation fee. After looking on rockauto for 2023 Getta GLI wiper blades, I found them there for a little over $10 (left and right total; see attached image). I ended up telling them to just fail the safety and I will get the wipers and install them myself and pay again [elsewhere less shady of course] to get a pass. The price of new wipers, 5min self installation, and a new safety inspection ($27) is less than what I would have paid to let them change my wipers out for a pass. Now, I question how factual their report is vs. how much is motivated by taking more money from the customer's pockets. Here's why: 1. I changed my oil a week ago and their report has my engine oil as "contaminated - service required." Picture of my oil from their report attached if interested (The oil I changed from the car was black, this is a light amber color--what you would expect from new oil). 2. The report has "recommended flush" of coolant system. Their evidence? A picture of the reservoir/housing that holds the coolant (see attached image). 3. They wrote "Issue identified with Body" in the exterior part of the inspection. I have no clue what this was regarding. They just uploaded a video of them walking around the car showing the flawless body of the car. There is no issue with the body of my car. This might have been reported in error (i forgot to follow up on that), but again, are they really paying careful attention here when they complete their reports? On top of this, I didn't appreciate their customer service. They were argumentative when I wasn't even taking it there. Their technician mentioned "I'm doing too much" when asking if I could get the wipers from Walmart for cheaper and come back to install and reinspect. They really made a big deal out of me simply questioning their inspection report as if I was completely in the wrong to be doing so. I would rather pay more money to go to a more trustworthy, caring, and customer friendly source than Midas.

Spilled oil from a poorly sealed drain plug

I went to this location for a routine oil change. Since the shop is under new management, I decided to give it a try. A few days later, I discovered a large amount of oil on my garage floor. When I brought my car back, I was told the technician hadn't sealed the oil drain plug properly. The manager offered me a free oil change, but I explained that my garage floor was stained and I expected them to take responsibility for cleaning it. He agreed, said he would make some calls, and promised to get back to me. After a week with no follow-up, I reached out again. He told me someone would come the next day--but no one ever showed. This location continues to be disappointing. The workmanship was sloppy, and the customer service even worse. Offering free oil changes isn't a solution. My garage is part of my home, and the floor needs to be professionally cleaned--or repaired if necessary.

Scammers, literally don't disclose that they'll charge for a warranty on brakes that you didn't ask; they'll say that they waived your evaluation/inspection fee then bill you an extra hour for labor. They broke not 1 but 2 of my tire lock keys (I had 2 sets, 1 on and a spare set) and didn't tell me after replacing my front brakes. I later discovered they were broken when I went to take my car to the dealership for rear brakes and saw that both keys were broken. The manger Andre proceeded to get disrespectful with me on the phone and tired to place blame on the dealership which hadn't even touched my vehicle. He claimed the his shop didn't damage the key despite being the only shop to work on my vehicle in the past 6 months. He offered no immediate resolution, I had to call multiple times and then was told I would have to drop off my vehicle and wait several hours for them to extract the locks (5 lugs) and replace them vs quickly swapping them out and offering to compensate me for a new lock set! So now I've wasted several hours of my day, haven't gotten my brakes replaced and out $100 for a new tire lock set. Furious is an understatement. PLEASE AVOID AT ALL COST IF YOU CAN. Lesson learned just take your car to the original dealership. Update: after having called corporate customer service to file a complaint in order to speak with somebody other than Andre regarding my tire locks - since he claimed he was the manager and no one else I could talk to (which I found out was a lie, and he is actually the locations assistant manager) I received an angry return call from none other than Andre! He proceeded to verbally assault me and harass me over the phone about filing said complaint to corporate because he " would receive the merits). He proceeded to tell me how they did me a favor (by destroying my tire locks and placing trash brake pads on my vehicle that caused it to squeak loudly every time I use the brakes), that I was ungrateful, that he felt as though he had given me superior customer service and that I was being recorded before abruptly ending the conversation/phone call. Thankfully, I was able to get in contact with two superior Midas employees: Randy and Brian, who were both very helpful and getting the situation resolved. I was able to finally able to have my brake pads and tire locks replaced today 5/3/24 (my initial visit was 3/15/24) at completely different Midas (Market St) as I felt unsafe returning to the ROXBOROUGH Midas location based on Andre's behavior.

I called later the next day and they said they were still working on it. By the 3rd day I needed it back. I went in and they said they couldn't check because they didn't have the right equipment. Wasted 3 days to not even check. Because of that, the manager gave me a paper saying I could get a free oil change due to it. It's now today and I went to go in and get an oil change and the new manager said it couldn't be used because the old manager was giving it away. Waste of my time. Don't go there.

I have overlooked a few things that were suboptimal service wise but not this latest incident. I made an appointment for an inspection for 10am, received a confirmation the day before, and arrived a few minutes before 10am to drop off my car. Upon arrival I was informed that they were short staffed and could not accommodate my appointment, nor could they reschedule it until FOUR days later. There were three employees behind the desk and not one bothered to call me or email me to let me know they could no longer accept my appointment before I made the trip down there. Then they had the audacity to send me an automated email that I missed my appointment. Unbelievable. I booked a sitter to watch my baby to go to this appointment and the lack of common courtesy (and now wasted expense I incurred) is just totally unacceptable. I realize they don't make money on inspections but that doesn't allow you to deprioritize and screw over a customer. Beyond disappointing and I will absolutely NEVER go back. Avoid avoid avoid.

After coming here for 4 years for their overpriced and deceptive services, I'm taking my business…read moreelsewhere from now on. Granted that I don't know much about cars, I initially trusted the highly rated google reviews on this place since they seem to be run by honest people who are trustworthy. I really should've trusted my guts after my car's AC suddenly stopped working after taking it in for a yearly inspection here a couple of years ago, but I kept coming back in hopes that it was just a one-time thing (when I took the car back to have them take a look at it after that incident, they claimed the issue was not reproducible that there's nothing wrong with it. As if by magic, my AC suddenly worked after I picked up my car from them). This year, I dropped my car off with them for the yearly inspection and oil change (each of those services cost at least $100 btw). I was pretty busy at work when they texted me several images of my car tire. When asked if it needed a change, I was told it's highly recommended but not needed to pass the inspection. On the other hand, since I just replaced my car battery, I needed to drive my car in order to generate sufficient emissions data for the inspection. When I called them to ask about the tire issue on the phone, I was also told that the tires would only last around 25 more miles before they gave out. Since I don't wanna risk having a flat/blown out tires, I asked them to give me the quote for the cost of the tires. On the phone, they mentioned a set would be around $621. I thought it sounded a bit expensive, but after checking online, it seems like a reasonable range so I proceeded with it. They later sent me a text that all services (oil change + state inspection + 3 tires) would cost around $840. Mind you, whenever someone mentions a set of tires, one would assume they meant the entire set of 4 tires unless you're driving a tricycle. I didn't pay much attention to the part where they mentioned 3 tires since I thought it was a typo. Nope. I was fooled. They REALLY meant the change was only for a set of 3 tires. Since I picked up my car at the end of a workday, I didn't have much energy left for anything else than to just get home and rest. Granted that I've been going to this place for the past 4 years, I also thought that my loyalty to them would allow me to trust them with a high level of service. To hell with that expectation since none of the following were provided on the day I picked up the car: 1) the digital invoice (they link they sent on the day of service did NOT work), 2) the physical copy of the invoice, 3) the information on the tires' warranty, which they claimed verbally was only 6 months from the date of service or based on the tires' thread life, and 4) the safety inspection results. Before I picked up my car, I looked up Yokohama tire's website (the manufacturer of the kind I purchased), and it clearly states that they offer a warranty up to 65,000 mile and a 30-day trial satisfaction guarantee. After mentioning this to Ken's Auto on the call, they said that guarantee is only applicable if I were to 1) purchase 4 tires, and 2) submit the claim on my own on Yokohama's website. Granted that I last changed all 4 of my tires at Costco at the same time, I fail to understand why they'd only change only 3 of them ESPECIALLY if it would limit me from being able to get the manufacturer's warranty honored. Any automotive resources would also tell you the replacing either a set of 2 tires (front-wheel drive) or 4 tires (all wheel drive) simultaneously would be optimal to prevent uneven wear and tear and maintain balanced handling. This place has snake oil dripping down their teeth when they mentioned that the last tire didn't need to be replaced since it's still in good working condition and that I'm being charged fairly since I wouldn't be able to find a business that'd install my tires without charging for the labor costs (hello, Costco does this ALL the time). The part that pissed me off the most was how gaslighting they were about all the things they mentioned on the phone call and texts as follows: 1) they claimed they never told me my tires would only last 25 more miles, and 2) they claimed they DID inform me that I'd be charged for 3 tires by the 3 text images (despite the fact that they look like they're pictures of the same tire but from a slightly different angle) as well as on the phone (a complete lie). If you're looking for an honest and trustworthy car shop, this place isn't it. Keep looking elsewhere and save your money. Update: In response to Ken L.'s reply, I'd like to clarify that the estimates were provided AFTER the complaint call. The link to the invoice on the date of the service only says to "contact the shop to reshare the link". I was probably put on blast/speaker by the business during the complaint call rather than when the original conversation concerning the tires issue and pricing. So much for customer service...
