Absolutely terrible place ! Car was not starting and they changed the fuel pump without spending any time diagnosing the issue. It refused to start again the very next day. They changed the battery next, even though the previous one showed 70% life. Car kept giving trouble starting every few days, until I finally took it to a different place and they determined that the issue was with the starter. These guys changed my fuel pump and battery for nothing and did not even try to diagnose the issue. read more

Avoid the Richmond Midas location at all cost. I brought in my 2021 Mazda CX-5, only a couple years old, for its first brake service. The car had never had any issues before, but after their work it came back damaged and I had to pay almost $1,500 at Mazda to fix their issues caused by them. When I reached out to Midas head office, instead of addressing the problem and reaching out to me, they had the very location I complained about call me. The manager called me and the conversation was extremely frustrating -- he denied responsibility, took no accountability, and was unprofessional and dismissive throughout. I even have an 8-minute recording of the call, including a highlight where he responds to my concerns with "yeah, whatever." So now I've paid Midas for the original service and paid Mazda to repair their negligence, while being treated poorly by both the location and head office. This experience was costly, unfair, and incredibly unprofessional. I would strongly caution anyone against trusting this shop with their vehicle. You might end up paying a lot more than you expect! read more

The worst customer service I've ever experienced! I have never been so humiliated and felt so insulted in my life! I booked an appointment for an oil change and also asked them to look at the 'check engine' light. I spoke to a guy named Shaun and he said "yes we'll check everything" My wife took the car in and after getting it back, she noticed that the check engine like was still on. She asked Shaun if they looked at the light and he said he was never told about it. Instead of being honest and saying he forgot, he lied! He also said they cannot just remove the light without fixing the problem. My wife told him that we wanted him to diagnose the issue to see what the problem was, not just get rid of the light. He then said it's too late and she would have to bring it in at a later time. My wife called me to ask if I had told him to look at the engine light and I said yes. I then called Shaun to see why it wasn't done and he responded very rudely and said "I don't wanna argue with you" and then hung up! I then went into the store to ask why he had hung up and he became very agitated and belligerent. He spoke to me very unprofessionally in a loud voice, while pointing his finger at me and cursing! I was totally taken aback. I then started recording him and he said he didn't care and continued to speak loudly. If this is how he treats people when he's being recorded, just imagine how he is when he isn't! His lack of customer service skills are 3rd world level. So happy that Nathan is back to Midas Richmond! I used to go to him when he was in Richmond, followed him to Vancouver kingsway branch when he got moved there. Then later when he was assigned to the north van branch, I had to go to another shop. I found out that he is now back to Richmond so I brought the car in for an oil change and check up today. Working close by for between 2017 to most of 2019. On 3 separate service jobs, had to return Multiple times to have them correct poor exhaust pipe part installs, poor gaskets/seals, and check-engine module replacement fixes. Within weeks of these services having to return a Number of times. Lost-leader overselling practices, no longer working nearby, will not return for regular service at this franchise. read more

Stay away!! I'm updating my review to 1 star due to the fact that I went back to the Toyota dealership for my Highlander, and told them about how Midas told me I had to change the brake pads + rotors of my vehicle (set me back $800). Dale, the Midas manager said that the rotors of my vehicle were severely damaged; and even said I'm putting my life at risk by driving my car. Being the typical clueless girl and just plain worried for my daughter's safety, I told him to go ahead and fix it. Well, then I notice my car making this suspicious weird noise so I just brought it back to the dealership, and guess what?! Toyota said last time I had my car serviced (a couple of months before going to Midas), my brake pads were down to 35% but FAR from needing the rotors changed!!! Plus, I find out that the passenger front wheel bearing is damaged!! All after entrusting my car to Midas, that's what I get for trying to save.. I'm NEVER EVER going back here. read more

11 year old OEM car battery finally died today. Got in the car and it wouldn't start. There was a lot of corrosion on the battery posts so I cleaned it up and managed to get the car started... drove it around for 45 minutes to recharge the battery then parked it praying to the car gods that it was just the corrosion on the posts that was preventing the car from starting. Alas, the battery was no longer holding a charge and I couldn't get it started on my next attempt. I managed to wrangle a jump from a passing motorist (thanks Wendy!). I thought about just going to Costco or Walmart, buying a replacement battery, getting another jump in the parking lot to get the car home and doing it myself... but then I realized I'm lazier than I am cheap and decided to just find someone to do it for me. So I needed to find a place with a replacement battery in stock that could do the job same day... on short notice because wherever I stopped my car next was where it was going to be stuck until the battery was replaced. My usual guy didn't have a suitable battery in stock, couldn't get it in until next week and was super slammed anyways, so he was out. Walmart Automotive - Battery in stock, but they couldn't fit me in same day - first come first serve/etc. Crappy Tire - called the automotive service department of 3 different locations... "please hold"... gave up after waiting for 15+ minutes on hold. Yes at all three locations... proving to me once again that Canadian Tire automotive is a complete waste of everyone's time. Before you write off this review because I actually considered Crappy Tire, it's just a battery replacement... After giving up on the big chain shops, I popped "car battery" into Google Maps and Google suggested a nearby Midas, so I gave them a call. The manager York didn't have a suitable battery available but could get one in for me in about 30 minutes. They were really busy (Saturday) but given it was just replacing a battery and I was obviously really needing to get it replaced same day York sorted me out in less than 2 hours. I paid retail pricing for the battery which is what you should expect if you walk in with the stench of desperation (aka "can you do it today?") seeping from your sweat glands. $38.50 labour to replace the battery which is a 20-30 minute job - not super cheap but in line with industry norms. Final verdict: pricing for the battery and labour was pretty much what you'd expect (not too low, not too high), but the service was a bonus - York bailed me out; pretty much every shop is closed on Sundays. I needed the job done same day and Midas delivered. Thanks York! read more

Took my car in for tire slow leak (over a month) check. But after a 'routine thorough check' I was told by Johnathan the front desk staff that in addition to an unrepairable front tire that needs replacing, the rear left brake caliper was 'stuck' and needed to be replaced along with the rotors. They suggested to replace all four rotors because two front ones are 'down to 3.5 mm and rear ones at 2.5 mm'. The price quote initially was $2200. I decided to just do the rear ones and the final price came to $1600. (After they gave me a discount of $25!!!). The staff kept saying it is unsafe to drive without replacing. While just a few months earlier another shop told me the brake pads were 60% worn but does not need replacement... (Later to my amazement, the job was done within about an hour.) I just can't fathom how expensive the labor cost was for a job that takes an hour. I also looked up the cost of all the parts (and they are not original parts) later and they are only a small fraction of what MIDAS charged me. I was ripped off. I'm never going back to that shop again. Stay away from it. read more

If I could give no stars I would. I was very disappointed with the service at this Midas location. I will definitely never go back here, nor recommend it to anyone. I took my car in, as I was having trouble with the heating system. I was told I needed to have numerous different things done to my car at a ridiculous price. It should be noted that a lot of the recommendations were completely unnecessary. It was only after I questioned the customer service agent on what he was trying to sell me that he back-pedaled and said they could fix my car at half of the originally projected price. At this point I felt that I was being scammed so I told the customer service agent that I wanted to come in that day and pick my car up. I ended up taking my car to a different mechanic where they were able to fix everything on my car for under $800, whereas Midas had quoted me $1700 for the same repairs. When I was visiting Vancouver, I noticed that the engine splash guard underneath my minivan was semi detached and just a few inches from scraping the ground. I just happened to drive by this Midas. I got in and explained to the manager, York, that I needed to fix the problem quickly as I would leave town that evening. He was able to accommodate me and get the job done in an hour. York also offered the service for free as a Christmas present. What a pleasant surprise! I was grateful for their help and would definitely visit them in the future. read more
