Steve knows his cars! I started taking my 2018 Volvo XC90 here instead of the dealership. This time for air conditioning repair. I imagined all the worst because the Volvo dealership (who said they couldn't get me in for 4 weeks) scared me with all kinds of repair possibilities. BUT STEVE..! Two big thumbs up for Steve Lucas and his team. I brought my Trans Am (ie. 1998, black on black) into their place because it was running like crap. These guys diagnosed all her problems and more. I've worked over 40 years in the Automotive (ie. EDS, GM, Chrysler/Stellantis, etc.) so I know a little bit about cars. They fixed just what needed to be fixed. I would check on the guy working on the car periodically, and he cleaned my transmission fluid oil pan to the point, you could eat off of it. I took my Durango in to this shop for the 2nd (and now last) time yesterday. I vaguely recall being unhappy with the 1st visit, but it was over a year ago, and I needed new brakes now. Being on Woodward near 14 Mile already, I dropped in and got a quote of around $400 for a single rear rotor & pads. I was told the brake pads were covered under warranty. I returned to the shop shortly after arranging transportation home and left them the vehicle. They called me hours later saying I needed a new caliper & brake hose. Total on bill $700. I literally told the Manager Steve, "I feel like a hostage. I but need my car back, so I'm forced to say go ahead." Today I go to get the car, and the bill is now $750. So, I asked Steve the Manager if he can do anything for me on the bill being I'm a repeat customer and dealing with crushing medical expenses. To the man's credit, he did reduce the bill... oddly, the same cost as a set of warrantied brake pads. Normally, I would just lick my wounds, knowing I will never go back, pay the bill and move on with life. But something was sitting right with me. I began asking about the used parts being returned to me, and that's when I got an earful of BS. He told me they don't give the used parts back because they are "returned." I specifically asked if the value of the Core Exchange on the caliper was "figured in his calculus?" His eyes glazed over & some BS about they don't get a core exchange credit. Go into any auto parts store and buy a reman caliper. With a core exchange, you'll save about 40%. OK, I know this type of character... I deal with them all the time in my own business, from the other side of the counter. I paid the asking... er... demanding price and left expeditiously. And left my cell phone on the counter. I get to my next destination when I realize the phone is gone. I search the car and definitely no phone. I call my cell phone and it rings several times before going to voice mail. 1/2 hour later I call the phone again and it went immediately to VM, meaning the phone was turned off. I go back to the shop, and pretty much as I expected, was told they found no phone. I asked Steve to ask his mechanics, and as I peeked around in the shop door, I see them snickering. And, I just cannot believe the elderly man in the lobby at the time took my phone. I cannot place the lost phone on Midas Mufflers, Royal Oak, but the price I paid was outrageous. read more

My 2002 Jeep Wrangler (new to me) had a bad muffler, or so I thought. I was fully prepared to pay for a full replacement and instead, Steve and his guy, looked it over and said it only needed a hose clamp tightened. Then they shined a flashlight all around this old thing and told me about a half-dozen things I should keep an eye on, and then filled my power steering fluid and put grease in a front hub (?). Trust me, they could've gotten me for a full muffler replacement and told me, "your power steering fluid box is leaking, that's $400 to repair." Instead, they were honest and treated my car (and my bank account) like I would. Frugal. I'll spend when I need to for safety or to keep the car going, but I can also fill oil and fluids from time to time. I've been pretty luck and have had mostly new cars for the past 20 years, and leased them, so I never had a car long enough to have any problems. Now, I have a classic car but not much mechanical knowledge or skill, and I think I found a mechanic who'll keep me on the road and NOT in the poor house. Steve! He was great. And, did I mention, I was in and out of there in less than a half-hour. Would've been shorter but they were giving me a tour of the underside of my Wrangler (and probably laughing that a guy like me has a car like this and NO idea how to work on it). read more

I had the most amazing experience today. I had called around to get prices for an oil change and drove out of my way to come to this Midas. Steve, who I chatted with on the phone and worked with me at the location was so accommodating. I walked right in and was out in under 30 minutes. After calling ten oil changes places this afternoon.... Midas also beat everyone else's prices for a full synthetic oil change in the entire RO/Birmingham area. EXCELLENT!! Steve Lucas is the store manager. He and his team really know their auto service business. I have had three different companies that were highly referred with personal, historical positive experience tell me I needed $700-800 to repair the muffler and pipes on my 1993 GMC Suburban. Steve performed a correct, fairly minor service for $100 and solved the problem on 12-18-2019. I highly recommend consulting with Steve at this Midas muffler location, he is a rare find. I traveled from Ann Arbor, MI. 60 miles away to come to his Midas Muffler store. Obviously, there are many other locations one might choose I came here for the quality, "smarts" and low price of his rendered service. read more

First time at this Midas shop. I had a very sad and disappointing experience with Steve. I went in for a simple break job. Steve said the front calipers were in extremely bad condition and so were the calipers in the rear. He said the breaks could fail anytime. I have a 2011 ford truck that is used only as a passenger vehicle. Steve gave me an estimate for well over two thousand dollars for repairs to my truck. Unfortunately I did end up changing my front calipers with Steve who made $1,055 off me for tthat day but at least I did not also replace my perfectly working rear calipers. Will not be doing business with Steve again. read more

I'm shocked that this place doesn't have other reviews! We have taken our cars to this Midas and the one on Maple/Troy (same owner) for years! These guys are HONEST and great! We had an experience of taking our car to a dealership for rattling and saying we needed a whole new exhaust system ....to Midas tightening a bolt for free and sending us on our way... Today I had a high/low idle.. and then a check engine light.. I got it right to Midas and they charged me for the diagnosis.. they flushed my system, had my car back same day and said "it COULD BE your ignition/idle system, but that's a $600 part.. hopefully this will work" How many other shops would just JUMP at the opportunity to sell someone that part + labor? As we get our two cars serviced regularly here, I DO still call around for quotes when something else comes up and they are still the best price AND the most honest guys I've ever dealt with! read more

There was more wrong with my vehicle than I thought and I couldn't afford to miss my car for anymore than a day. They got me right in, kept me informed at every step and had my car back to me quicker than I though possible. read more

These guys are complete and total crooks. deserve to have the BBB called on them. I went in asking for a quote telling them i needed front rotors and brake pads. They told me they could not quote me a price without looking at it. So i handed them my keys and off they went to pull it in. Let's keep in mind i told them EXACTLY what i needed. they looked at it, came back with an estimate for over $750 replacing the parts i asked for plus about 10 things i told them i didnt want done (none of which effect the safety of my vehicle) i explained again i brought it in for front pads and rotors to which the guy told me "well if you want to be unsafe i can give you a quote for the bare minimum" he handed me another quote still over $400 trying to bully me "well these are the low quality brake pads, you won't get a lifetime warranty and you will waste more money in the end" i told him i had heard enough and please just put my wheels back on so i can leave.... he only than told me "well alright but it's a $19.95 fee for the inspection" i threw a $20 bill at him (didnt get my 5 cents change...he didnt even offer...oh well) i informed EVERYONE in the waiting room of what happened and a couple even left with no services rendered after hearing them try to rip me off. Sorry im not a ditzy kid who doesnt know better... i told them what i needed, they tried to rip me off.... Don't rip off a car guy..... This place will steal every dime you have and probably STILL not repair the only thing you actually ask them to. My husband usually does our maintenance on our vehicles. Yet when he has to take them in ....we go to this Midas ( 32700 Woodward ). EVERY TIME we get an HONEST and FAIR price for a REPAIR if possible . Note the word ...REPAIR. Other places in the past wanted to REPLACE with NEW.....and alot of $$$. Steve and the mechanics make us feel like we are family. I wish there was a way to express how pleased we REALLY are, because they deserve all the business that comes their way. read more

The weld on the exhaust is far from perfect but it'll work. I would have appreciated a cleaner weld without pieces of the mig welder wire still attached to the "eh" weld. read more

Get a second opinion on expensive repairs! I saved several hundred dollars with another diagnosis. Double check their parts charge online.

I took my car here for an estimate on some front end work. I found them to be nice friendly guys and they quickly had an answer to my problem. The fault I had was the extreme costs of parts listed on the estimate. Feeling that the costs were too high I took the car to another shop, who also came up with the same solution to the problem. The parts however were half the cost of what Midas wanted, the labor costs were the same. Now I can't speak of the quality of the work Midas does, but I chose not to use them based on the extreme mark up of the parts. I did give them the chance to review the parts costs, and advised them that I could buy the parts at full retail for less than half of what they listed on the estimate. They stood firm and lost a customer. As a side note I used the part numbers listed on the quote to do my research, so the retail prices I got from several auto parts stores were in fact " apple to apple " So in short by doing a little research and reading the estimate I was able to get the same job done for hundreds less. read more
