I went in for a simple oil change. After it was done and I got home I checked the oil level. I see the dip stick sticking out about 2 inches from being seated. Not good. And there is a wire bundle that runs next to the oil filter housing. About 4 inches of the protective wire wrap is gone. I see with my flashlight the chunks of what was sitting on the frame below. I will never come back here. First they automatically upcharged me for synthetic on my oil change, without mentioning it. I asked them if they had done this, since the price was higher than expected--they said yes. I mentioned to them they should really ask first before adding an upsell. No acknowledgement, he just stared at me. I told them it was fine, but they should ask first. I was the only person there at the time, no other cars pulled in at all. Oil change somehow took over an hour. After they did not start it for nearly thirty minutes, I asked if the mechanic was on break. The guy at the front suggested I walk around because it would still be a few minutes. I went walking. When I came back and got my car there were dirty shoe prints in front of the driver seat, and they didn't reset my check engine light. I was already annoyed, and doubted it would matter. I bit my tongue. I didn't write a review then. But more than anything, I am beyond annoyed that I asked them if they contact you after the service, and specifically mentioned I did not want them to contact me when they collected my information. And yet now, numerous survey texts, followup emails, and now promo mailers I am receiving from them. I did not ask to be signed up for any of this, and months later stuff is still coming. Avoid. Under new ownership as of last year, and no longer honest. I paid a $40 inspection fee and was told upfront to expect $400-$700 to repair my brakes and rotors. The estimate came out to almost $1,800 (with a bunch of random extras they insisted I needed), and included replacing the rear rotors (in addition to the front). I was told the brake pads on the rear were metal on metal and at 0%. When I asked that they replace the rotors/pads on the front and just replace the pads on the back, I was told this was illegal. I was also pressured into talking about financing with them, which I declined. After having my car inspected (for free) by Precision (down the street), I had the front brakes and rotors replaced for $550. They showed me the wear on the rear, and said I had plenty of pad left. They recommended I come in for a complementary inspection every 6 months. I am currently pursuing a refund on my inspection fee due to a fraudulent report. I brought my 2012 Jeep Liberty to Midas to have a Water Pump replaced. Marcus told me he would diagnose the problem and charge $150.00. Marcus then called me and told me it was the Water Pump and he proceeded to work on changing the Water Pump and there were 4 different prices starting at $150.00 and going to $1466.77. I talked to some other Mechanics and they all said the same thing. If they replaced the Water Pump it should not had been more than $900.00 including parts. It seemed like since I supplied the Upper and Lower Hoses as well as a Serpentine Belt Marcus Charged me more. There were 3 ladies in waiting room before me. * Front staff was talking on the phone and to the mechanic when I arrived. Waited for 10 min before I was checked in. *I was given quote of 30-45min for oil change. *I wanted to get synthetic blend and use coupon, however, I was told they can only do full synthetic for my vehicle, as that is what was currently used. Came here to replace brakes on my 2007 Prius. Was quoted at another shop for $560 but I wanted to shop around. They quoted me $3200 dollars, trying to upsell me for all kinds of stuff. I said I was interested in just getting my brakes replaced because I had an expection done at a different shop and the brakes were the only thing that needed replacing. They said it would cost me $1500 for just the brakes! UNBELIEVABLE! Also charged me $40 to just give me an estimate. No other shop has ever done this to me. STAY AWAY AND TAKE YOUR CAR ELSEWHERE! I used to love coming to this place but their prices have become outrageous. I got my rear breaks and rotors replaced. When I mentioned how much I was charged to a friend I was told I was completely taken advantage of. So I did my research. Breaks are $52.99 per set and rotors are $82.99 each. I was charged $119.99 for break pads and $149.99 per rotor. The whole job was $695.37 which is typically what it costs for both front and back breaks and rotors to be replaced. I would not recommend coming here. Go to your local independent auto spot instead. You're not only supporting a small business but you will also save yourself a lot of money. read more

I dropped my Audi A4T off to Midas at 13745 E.14th St. in San Leandro CA on Saturday 6/22/2024 for a tune up. I was told that the tune up could not be done unless I got my valve cover, spark plugs and ignition coils replaced. This was a mechanics findings. I was told by their receptionist, Billy, that there was a full diagnostic done on my car (a service of which I didn't ask for, so I was not charged) and that's what needs to be replaced in order to complete the tune up. I was told my car would be ready on Monday afternoon due to the work that needed to be done. I opted to pick the car up Tuesday 6/25/2024 so nothing would have to be rushed and I wouldn't be inconvenienced. I received the paperwork on Tuesday once I picked up my car and all that says needed to be replaced, after the work that was done, would be the power steering pump. Thursday morning, 6/27/24, MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON upon start up. I take my vehicle back to the Midas location and their receptionist is being rude, obnoxious and very disrespectfully annoying with his nonchalant attitude to my customer complaints. I asked for the parts that were worked on and he told me they threw them away and I would have to request that service at the beginning before I let them work on the car. I told him I doubt they would throw my parts away, and asked him to go check and he had a smart remark that he made before he walked away from the reception desk. He came back with my gasket cover and spark plugs. He claims the coils were thrown away already. I don't know why the other parts were available and the coils that were replaced would be ironically gone. So, Billy with the attitude, tells me he can have someone look at the car and they'll call me, I told them I'm not leaving until you look at my car immediately because I just paid you $2,134.00 and I didn't make you wait for the payment! Billy went and got a mechanic to "look" at the car and they said it would need a Turbocharger Fouler Sensor. How can you LOOK at a vehicle and tell me that?! I asked to speak with the manager and he told me he's the manager. I asked to speak with his boss A.D., (who ironically contacted me through text after I complained about my check engine light earlier). So Billy tells me, "My boss pays me to talk to people so he doesn't have to. That's what he pays me for." I said, "So you're telling me your boss pays you to talk to people for him even when they request to talk to him?" His reply was yes! I said wow, what type of customer service is this. I demanded half my money back or fix what else you're trying to say is wrong with my car. If a full diagnostic was done on my vehicle like he said, there would have been an indication of a problem from the start. Ohhhh and another thing, KEY COMPONENT TO THIS WHOLE POST... MY CAR JUST PASSED SMOG ON 6/21/2024!!! If anything was wrong with my vehicle, it would have not passed!!!! Midas (Billy specifically) declined to do so and I was so amazed and in shock that this guy is literally an employee, I had to let my friend know how this guy was disrespectful and just talking to me any kind of way. Smiling, smirking, say "okay?" Like he was just not concerned. A young kid not realizing life goes beyond these jobs, you have to show respect out here. You don't know who you may need one day. Treat people with respect. Oh and one more thing! My engine light is still on and the manager/owner (A.D.) of the establishment NEVER got back to me. I called corporate to make a complaint and have this place looked into. Even if it's hiring better staff that will not talk over and argue with customers. Billy's response was, "I'm giving you the same energy you're giving me"... only difference is, I paid $2,134, and getting attitude from staff and you're also refusing to let me speak with your boss! I have the right to be pissed! Seems like there's faulty business going on here and the BBB has been contacted. **UPDATE** IT'S 7/2/2024 AND STILL NO CONTACT FROM MIDAS AT ALL!!!! I filed a complaint last Thursday and I was told I would be contacted within 72 hours!!!! LIES!!!! I had to call yesterday for an update and the young lady told me my claim has been escalated to the VP OF MIDAS AND I WILL RECEIVE A CALL WITHIN 24 HOURS.... STILL NOTHING!!!! They stated they could fix my left brake light and do a diagnose on my car. I dropped off the car last Saturday. When I went today to the shop today to check on the progress, the key was stuck in the ignition and they could not get it out. They also could not get the truck opened. They have fed me a bunch of BS since I left the car. I am not just waiting for them to tell me they have got the key out of the ignition, the trunk can be opened, and the car is in the same running condition when I left it in their care. Had my car over night to try and diagnose an electrical issue. Went in on the afternoon the following day, car wouldn't start as the battery had been drained. Had to leave an additional night. Picked it up the next day after I was told they didn't have the ability or understanding to fix the issue. Upon getting into my car, I discovered my windshield had been cracked, an issue that previously didn't exist. Two impact marks left from a tool dropped. Chris the manager, who when was told my windshield was cracked, asked which one? Not a great sign when the manager doesn't know what a windshield is. I pointed out the crack and impact marks to him, to which he said, not our fault, we didn't touch the windshield. Only the front door and engine bay, though as I drove by the night before to see where they parked it, it was left under an Owl Transport van in heavy disrepair on a lift. Wouldn't acknowledge that the inspection report stated nothing about my cracked windshield, despite it mentioning my brakes are at 60%, the tread life on my front tires was getting low and I may want to replace that, what my oil looked like. All important information from the initial inspection. Chris refused to acknowledge the damage or take responsibility for the liability this presents driving the vehicle.if it was there initially, to safeguard themselves, they would have recorded it. It was not. When you leave a car with a mechanic, you at minimum expect it in the same condition as you left it, not as it was returned to me. I had an oil change here and the owner told me I needed my tires and brakes replaced. When I said my brakes seemed fine, they didn't make any noise and my car is still pretty new, they said "the brakes get changed with the tires" I said I never heard of that before, and was told "that is how it's done, the rotors will get messed up then I would have to pay more for the rotors to get ground down if I don't replace the brakes". I was quoted $1000 for these services I took it to two other places who both said my brakes were fine, didn't need to be replaced at all! WTF???? Is it because I'm a women and they think I'm a total idiot? Or do they just try to take advantage of everyone?? I've been coming there for years for oil changes and this is how I'm treated?? Arrived around 9am on a Tuesday and was quoted a 1.5 hour time frame but was finished within 1 hour but my coupon was for a 17 point inspection and a tire rotation and oil change but when I asked about a tire rotation he said the best tires belong in the back and he asked if I needed it but that's a question I pay them to answer. So they didn't do a rotation because I supposedly didn't need it. Then I didn't get any paperwork on an inspection so I wonder if it was even done. They had a lot of cars this morning so I wonder if they just did the oil change only and skipped the tire rotation and inspection. Based on this experience I will probably not be back. Not getting any paperwork for an inspection and not getting my tires rotated because he said I didn't need it when really they probably didn't check is very concerning. Took my car here today for what appeared to be a cylinder that needed to be replaced, I already had 1 replaced last year with the previous owner and the price was definitely more this time compared to what I paid last year which is ridiculous but I needed it changed because this is my commuter vehicle. I received a call to pick up my car that it was ready, I arrived not too long after the call and was told my Mike the manager that he had just received bad news about my car and proceeded to tell me that I needed to have my radiator replaced and asked if my car ever overheated because the hose had been broken. I had just took my car to a previous mechanic for tune up and oil change and he said nothing about my radiator, my car has never over heated, I have never had an issue with that, when I arrived at Midas this morning I wasn't having any problems with that. I left Midas and drove down to Davis street to pump gas, as soon as I left the gas station my car started over heating, I'm lucky I made it home. Called my dad to come take a look and it appears that either they broke it on purpose or on accident and said nothing, it was a clean cut. I AM NEVER GOING BACK TO THIS MIDAS I AM TELLING ALL MY FAMILY NOT COME HERE, STAY AWAY. Have some integrity in your work! I came to your location because I was sick and tired of Hayward's "upsells" and excuses for not doing the complete service they advertise for their oil changes, including tire rotations. So while you adjusted the pricing in your system to match the quote you gave me on the phone for the recommended brake service, which was still quite expensive despite the "free guaranteed brake pads", the fact that you failed to disclose (on your website, in the store, or at the time of estimate) that you REFUSE to accept the Midas-branded credit card from Synchrony Car Care as payment completely blindsided your (now former) customer. This experience proved that it takes YEARS to build customer trust, but only a few seconds to flush it down the toilet forever. Don't go here. My first review was before I even received service. I walked in and Chris said if I wanted and $10 discount to leave a review first. So naturally I did. Who doesn't want to save a buck nowadays. So I got a follow up text a few weeks after I spent nearly $700 for my front brakes and rotors. I told them that now they are squealing more now than ever before.....brought it back....they said a pebble got stuck as the reason why it made the noise.....noise got louder. I texted to bring it back for a second time. This time he stated it was the back. How could it be the back when those were replaced AFTER they did the front. Never will I return to Midas and you should beware. Don't count on the reviews below because I guarantee most of them are before service was rendered. I pointed this out, and they still let me have the free service. I've been to this Midas a few times and I had a pretty good vibe from the start. They are professional, quick and no nonsense. They are also pretty busy, which is usually a good sign. I went there because my car was making an awful rattling sound. They were too busy when I went and so I went to a another place that day. The other place said that I needed a $1000 fix. I went back to Midas a few days later and within 15 minutes they diagnosed the issue as a $25 weld job. They fixed it and all is well. They saved me a huge chunk of cash. I was beyond satisfied with the service provided. The guys here are friendly, effective, and no-nonsense, and I like that. What particularly impressed me is they were just as able to provide basic service on a Mercedes as some of the other shops in the area, without taking the attitude that fancy cars should require fancy maintenance costs. They have the necessary equipment to reset the car's maintenance counter to indicate the service was performed. They quoted me the price to perform an oil change on the phone and that is precisely what I paid - no bait and switch once I arrived by stating additional work was needed. I've told the owner that I would like to use the coupon as it was on their website, he refuses to take the coupon and repeats himself like a toddler. He did not explain why they have that coupon listed on the website if they're not accepting it, neither he did not ask if I would like to proceed with the regular payment -- flat out denied service like I can't pay for it. I haven't been here for oil changes since I moved away from the area but I decided to go back because I love the complimentary services (tire pressure check, fluids check and refill, window cleaning, and interior vacuuming) Paul and his workers offer here. My car has been sounding like a loud dead whale every time I'd turn the wheel which I suspected was related to power steering and Paul confirmed it for me. In addition to my oil change, I believe Paul added some kind of lubricant and now the DEAD WHALE SOUND is completely gone! And he did that for no extra charge! My ears thank you Paul! Because of this experience Paul's won me over as a loyal customer and this location will be my go-to spot for all oil-changes and maybe other repairs!
