I did not know when I walked into Midas, that I had entered, the belly of the beast, the land of thieves and crooks. Right now; I am currently realizing my dream of a better life in a better place. And recently, I purchased a vehicle as my carriage into that nirvana.... I brought it to Midas for them to inspect it. I trusted them. How wrong I was..... They told me my car was on the brink of complete and utter failure. I was devastated.... My dream, now dashed. A single tear fell from eyes as they slithered "FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS." For two moons I did not slumber. But alas, a good friend offered me good counsel. I took it to another shop. An honest shop. A hardworking shop. I would say the name, but I fear this will get this warning removed. This shop informed me that nothing was wrong with my vehicle. I took it for another opinion and was told the same thing. That's when I felt it.... The cold sharp knife in my back. Midas betrayed me, and tried to ruin my dream. And for this, I offer no forgiveness. I went in for a new muffler. Unbeknownst to me, they took apart my brakes in the front and back and declared them unroadworthy (despite the rear ones being new). Then they showed me a picture of a part that had broken in the process. They attempted to charge me for things I didn't request and hadn't approved. Did a walk-in oil change last week. Service was dialed! Quick (45 minutes as estimated, maybe a few minutes less), thorough, and they honored an online coupon I found with a quick google while I was there. Communication was perfect--they pinged my mobile with a .vcf to save their Contact and then, when they completed work, a link to the full 5-point inspection report which outlined the checkpoints by URGENT, NON-URGENT, and POINTS PASSED and provided actionable suggestions for the urgent/non-urgent things needing attention. The report also had photo documentation for relevant checkpoints, like a photo of the dipstick for the oil level item. Jeff followed up with a text this morning to make sure "Everything great?" and I thought yeah, everything WAS great. Recommend! read more

my boyfriend took his car in to have new tires put on (bought them with a buy three get one free coupon) and when the "complentary" diagnostic check was run, there were 3 problems classified as urgent and 9 more listed as concerns. he had recently had his car looked over at the dealership and they had not mentioned a single one of these issues. when the service advisor called, he had mentioned that it would be at least $1500 to replace the supposedly rusted rotors and loose steering column. he mentioned that the brakes were supposedly so bad that they didnt think it was working at all, and said he was surprised that we weren't hearing any noise related to the steering column. upon opting not to fix the "urgent" issues right now, they proceeded with the tire change, and said it would take 60-90 minutes. 2 hours later, we still hadn't heard anything so we called to get an estimated time of completion and were told that a bolt was so rusty it snapped right off as soon as they touched it and they had to go buy a new one, and it would add about $6-8 to the bill and the car would be ready by closing time and the key would be left in the drop box. the advisor tried not to give us a total price when we paid, and did so reluctantly when asked. 20 minutes later, we got a call saying they needed more parts and it would be an additional $50. this is an extremely shady, untrustworthy garage that has forever lost our business. read more

Oct 7, 2023 In a torrential rain storm on my way home to NH my wiper control servo failed as I was merging onto I-89. I could barely move and crept to Midas 90 minutes before closing time on a Saturday. Closed Sunday. Susan and team located a supplier for the part and they stayed open late to get me and my wife out of a terrible bind.... rain wasn't going to let up until Sun. After speaking with my folks about my experience with Midas they pointed out a couple things to me that made me feel Midas had actually ripped me off... 1. They did not tell me about my vehicles warranty. (I could've taken my vehicle to GMC and had my brakes fixed for free opposed to choosing to rip me off by making me feel it had to be done there and now, charging me over a grand.) 2. They did not give me my parts they had removed back. (perhaps this is part of their schemey ways?) I honestly felt they were looking out for my safety, now I'm not so sure. Everybody deserves a trustworthy garbage with honorable employees. I'm not sure Midas has this honorable sense of touch sadly. Besides being always more than fair and honest, MIDAS on Williston road has only ever provided me the highest quality of service. Dave, Joe and Chris and the whole team are among the best guys with whom I've ever dealt in the last 20 years of which they've had me as a customer for 10, but I can't remember the last time Ive gone in for the same repair twice because once the guys there fix something for me their workmanship seems to last. So these days I'm generally pretty reluctant to go anywhere else because as long as they're able to keep me on the road as they've been doing, I've got no reason to take my 2005 vehicle anywhere else but MIDAS. I would like to preface this by saying I never do this kind of stuff but this experience motivated me to create an account to help the general public. About a week ago I slid into curb and popped tire in downtown Burlington. I had my car towed here because it was a AAA partnered shop and AAA would cover up to $50 on my bill. I figure $50 off two new tires would be nice, so I said go for it. My car was brought in Tuesday evening and wasn't looked at until Friday afternoon. I called once a day to find out the progress of my car and I was assured each day that "it was next on the lift" . When it was finally looked at I was told the process took so long because "paperwork was misplaced" Upon inspection they allegedly found $700 worth of critical work that need to be done along with a new rim for another $500. When questioned if I really needed a new rim they said "well..... maybe you don't really need a new rim". All credibility out the window for me. I spent $200 and got it towed Upstate to a family friend who is a mechanic who couldn't find any of theses "urgent fixes". He got me two new snow tires and I was back on the road. Though this is 100% speculation I have a theory on this is; I recently moved to Vermont and my car still has NY plates. I had a bad experience and planned to speak to the owner when he returned from vacation. Then I read the reviews and realized that calling him was pointless: this is just the way they do business. Like so many other unsuspecting people, I went in for an oil change. I was told that the rear brakes would not pass inspection, I should replace them immediately. Oh and I needed to replace the muffler too. My car has 30,000 miles. As luck would have it, my annual inspection was at the dealer the following day. Did I pass? It took 1 hour and 25 minutes for an oil change. Although i gave them a coupon for $29 they billed me for $39 and then apologised.I saw that the young man checking me out couldn't find the diagnostic check that Midas offers with every visit, and proceeded to skip it and cash me out, I asked why he didn't review the diagnostic information with me. He went out to the shop and returned saying the technicians didn't do one. I pointed to the Midas mission statement on the wall written in large letters and reminded him that I should have received one. He explained that "the techs always cut corners at the end of the night" and he offered to schedule another time for me to come in. I work two jobs and already spent an hour+ when I could have just gone to oil n go. So finding time to come back especially around the holidays would be impossible. And since I had just recently purchased this car, I wanted to know if it needed any repairs. I walked out but then immediately returned after rethinking the phrase "the technicians always cut corners at the end of the night" as I was on the way to pick up my son. As I approached the counter I asked the young man if the older gentleman next to him was a manager and he confirmed. This means the whole time I was questioning the Midas mission statement and questioning this blatant disregard for it, he could have helped or intervened at any moment but stood idly by. I stepped back as the manager had just begun helping another customer. I immediately overheard the customer questioning his bill and the diagnostics he received. The manager began to explain that the info was erased and then "rebuilt". At that point I spoke up and said there are obviously many things askew with this shop and that my experiences would be reflected in my reviews. He waved to me and said have a good night. I would never give this shop my business. The Friday before Christmas I had to have new tires put on my car, oil change and new windshield wipers installed. I was brought to my office by the courtesy van driver who went way up and beyond in helping me when he picked me back up when my car was ready. He helped me load and unload a car full of things. The employees at the shop even sweetened the deal with a gold box of truffles, I should have sweet talked them into extra boxes, lol.... When they realized they did not have the correct tires in stock, my fault I gave them the wrong info, they were able to go out and get the correct tires, in that snow storm and install them on my car before the estimated time to finish. This Used to be a place I liked to take my car, and thought they were fair. However, my last appointment left a horrible taste in my mouth, and I will NEVER bring my car here again!! They do take advantage of people, especially if you're a woman, and the work by technicians isn't consistent. Called Midas Monday told them my 4x4 was acting up and my alignment was off balance. Kyle got me in told me step by step what they were going to do fixed my 4x4 system in less than an hour and it was jammed packed today. Secondly the mechanic found that my back two tie rods had some pull and recommended I get them replaced before I get an alignment. They let me go back in the shop and check the tie rods they had some good pull to them it was obvious they needed to be replaced. Got my car in that day ordered the parts at reasonable price gave me some coupons and awesome customer service. Got a call few hours later my truck was ready to go, no problems. I read a lot of these older reviews and it's hard to believe I went to the same shop they did. Cars break and when they break it's expensive obviously it's a chain mechanic shop so they have a protocol they have to follow. Just be knowledgeable about what's wrong with your car ask questions and take advice. I understand not all experiences are the same but from what I saw today they did better than some mindless non personality mechanics I've ran into throughout my life. 6/1/2019 Saturday, I received no calls from Midas again. I called Midas right after noon, and Chris was not there working, so I spoke with a lady customer service and after I waited on the phone for over 10 minutes, she came back and told me that the car would not be ready that day. I mentioned to her that I was promised it would be ready today as I needed to drive back to New York that weekend and I was promised every day that it would be ready the very next day and the absolute deadline was that Friday the day before (but then Saturday with additional issue). She had my number and asked Chris to call me back after 40 minutes. Chris apparently was on vacation and he was not aware the shop did not work on my car at all on Saturday, and after he spoke with the manager on duty and owner Peter, it was concluded that they could not deliver the car as promised on that day and they would need several hours more to work on it after the weekend. I told Chris it was definitely a failure on the promise I received and I needed to travel back to New York that weekend with no delays (I injured myself in Montreal and needed to return to New York with no delay for medical treatment). I informed Midas that I just could not wait anymore and they don't have more time to fix my car any more, I would need them to stop the repair. I was called back after half hour, Chris said he discussed with the manager and the owner and they would have two options for me: 1. Take their loaner car to drive back to New York and come back after a week to pick up my car after they have more time to work on it. 2. They will stop the repair and will take a loss on their side for the partial repair they had done. I clearly told me I could not delay my trip back and I would not be able to spend more time and money drive back to Burlington VT which requires 700+ miles plus 12 hours + driving, not mentioning the cost for gas, tolls and hotel I need to spend in addition to the entire repair that went from original simple to $1077 to $1800 plus. I told them I would stop the repair. 6/2/2019 Sunday morning, I stopped by Midas to retrieve my personal items in the car and discovered there was a letter asking me to sign off the car to them. I declined since the title belongs to my father and I left note for Midas informing them I will ask ASPCA Charity donation tow truck to come to pick up the car the following week. 6/3/2019 Monday morning, I called ASPCA to tow the car. ASPCA contacted Midas and called me back saying Midas won't release the car till I pay the fees. I was feeling deceived at that time, the agreement was Midas will take the loss on the partial repair they did already. There was never anything mentioned for my family to sign over the car to Midas so they could try to re-sell it to recover their expense. I called Midas and spoke with Chris, he told me he will ask manager or owner to call me back. I received no phone call back that day. 6/4/2019 Tuesday morning, I called Midas at 9am again and was told they will call me back. 10am, I received a call from its general manager Edward H. Spoke with him, and he informed me that Chris was the employee and promise was not done by last Saturday for my car's repair was possible. I was also informed that they would have to take my car or put a lien on it, and they won't release the car to ASPCA charity till I pay the bill of $1077, he could give me a discount of $77. I have till next Monday to decide to give them the car or pay the $1000, or $35 a day "storage fee" will occur. I kindly asked them to drop off the car for me to Brooklyn and I would pay for the promised repair fees, but I was told they can't do it. The entire experience was extremely frustrating and awful. I never expected promise could be done and let down day after day, and no compromise what so ever from a big and reputable business like Midas. Leaving individual driver with no mechanic repair knowledge completely stranded and helpless. All my family wants to do, after losing the family car miles and miles away from home, is to donate our car now in Vermont, to our charity ASPCA car donation, without incurring any more cost/expense/lien from this frustrating experience in Vermont. Just take the loss as promised. We lost our car in Vermont and experienced terrible unresponsive customer services that we needed to call just to find out things were not done or more issues found every day. Definitely procrastinating repairing service provided, knowing we had an absolute deadline. For travelers passing the region, I would recommend you avoid this repair shop if you expect the repairs to be done as promised and on time, find another shops on BBB.org. read more

Was assured that if i dropped it off at 8am they could do it. Dropped car off at 7:50am. Called to check status at 1:15 and was told they hadn't even looked at it yet. At some point during the day they must have know they wouldn't get to it. A simple phone call would have allowed me the chance to make other arrangements. Nothing. About a month ago, Midas installed an alternator in my car. While in North Carolina on vacation last week, the alternator failed. I found a NC garage who installed a new alternator for me. The garage spoke with Midas back in Vermont, and Midas told the garage to put in a new one and Midas would reimburse me for the expense of the alternator when I returned to Vermont. When I returned to Vermont, Midas gave me a check for the full value of the alternator and reimbursed me for the rental car expense as well. This is why I am a loyal customer of this Midas. read more

Spoiler Alert: these guys are 100% scam artists. Take your business anywhere but here. My girlfriend has a 2006 Kia Rio with 65,000 miles. She took her car here for an oil change. These asshats pulled the age old "lets try to screw over the unsuspecting college girl" trick. They gave her their complementary once over only to find that *gasp* she needed a COMPLETE brake job. Front pads, rotors, back drums and shoes. They told her that it would not pass inspection the way it was, and warned her that it would be "extremely dangerous" to continue driving it. They convinced her to let them do the brake work (by scaring her) and quoted her $697!!!! She dropped her car off at 4:30 (closing), the women worker told her that since it was closing time, it wouldn't be worked on until the next morning. I woke up at 7:30am (when the shop opened) to call these guys to question their astronomical price and ask specifically about the back brakes.Manager told me he personally saw the brakes and they were shot, would work on price and call me back. 10 minutes later he calls back and drops $40 bucks off the price. I told Manager that I was no longer interested in his service for that price, and that I questioned whether there was even anything wrong with the back brakes. He got offended and said b/c my girl already agreed to the job, it was going to cost me an hour labor to "put the brakes back together." After calling him out, saying that the car was dropped off at closing, and that there is no way any work had been done, he agreed to park it. We then took the Kia to Dolan's in Burlington confirmed we did the right thing. They checked her brakes, said her front pads were pretty worn and rotors were scored but the back brakes (drums and shoes) were COMPLETELY fine...they estimated they still had 50,000 miles on them! We were out the door for $220 with front rotors and pads (they recommended replacing the parts but said it was by no means dangerous to drive). Moral of the story - go to a mechanic you trust. The only reason they are getting a star is because it is required! I brought my Jeep to them back in February for an oil change. I told them I did not want them to do the inspection that is done with any job because I had literally (the day before) had my car inspected. The gentleman at the front desk (I'm assuming was the owner) tried telling me that my car needed $2,000 in repairs!!! I told him that I did not want them touching my car, that I would have my mechanic look at it. He had the audacity to try to get me to sign up for their credit card and then when I refused he tried to tell me that my car should have never passed inspection. Needless to say I brought it straight to my mechanic who said there was absolutely nothing wrong with it, and to never trust a place that gets commission off of parts.... I've gone to Midas three times for an oil change, and every time they found something wrong with my car. The lowest estimate that they've given me for repairs is $682.80; that wouldn't have worried me as much if their diagnoses had been consistent. The first time it was my tires and battery that were dangerously-low; two moths later, after no work had been done, then they said that I needed a new brake system and that my tires were good for another 5,000+ miles; and the third time that I went there I heard them pounding on something, only to have them show me that my muffler was falling off of my car, yet my car didn't start making any loud noises until I drove out of their garage. I gave them three chances, and each time they lead me to disappointment. They're not even worth the $19.95 for an oil change; I won't trust them again with my car. I'm going to Dolan's Auto for a check-up on my car, they're a great family-owned, honest, and local business in Burlington, VT. read more

I have been going to this place for a few years out of convenience as they have a courtesy shuttle and will bring me to and pick me up from work while my car is in the shop. However, those rides have definitely cost me much more than a taxi fare over these few years. The "complimentary" service checks always result in an expensive endeavor. Each visit results in a laundry list of "highly recommended" services that are explained as urgent and unsafe to leave unresolved. The quotes here are astronomical. It seems as though they will throw out an outrageous price just to see if it sticks. Every time if you question the price, they are quick to drop it $50 before even discussing. Why not just start $50 lower on the quote? The parts prices are inflated from the cost you would pay at Advance Auto Parts by 100-300% based on my personal experience (this is much more than a reasonable margin) and prices received directly from the parts store. If you bring in your own parts, they charge a higher labor rate which ultimately ensures that they earn the same amount of profit either way. If you call around, quotes at other garages will be 30-50% cheaper and/or the service doesn't actually need to be done. After negotiating for 30 minutes with the person at the desk as well as the manager (Les), they were willing to drop my total bill from $1,100 to $830 (a 25% reduction). Clearly they are starting at an unreasonable price if they are willing to cut 25% off the bill in the end. I figured after a few years, I would be able to build a trusting relationship with these guys. That turned out to be nothing but a bad hope and a dream. I have finally decided to take my business elsewhere. If they can't quote an honest price with the first quote, how can I be sure that the work they are recommending is even needed? This place needs to work on providing an honest service at an honest price. Even then, I wouldn't go back. read more

My late June experience here is why, despite some history to the contrary, I keep coming back here (apart from its close proximity to my home?!?). After dropping may car off the day before, in the hope of an early look at it, Kevin called me in a timely manner late the next morning and explained in detail the nature of the (muffler) issue. He then went on to assure me he would have the necessary part the next day --a Saturday, I might point out--plus informed me there was a reliable means to save upwards of $300 on additional parts, an offer to which I acceded with some trepidation. Outreach and response from the staff the next day lacked his confidence and authority, but the work was done sooner than I expected after a less-than knowledgeable response to my late morning phone inquiry, so I was satisfied. Given my complicated financial situation (new dad), this being my only vehicle, and a host of other things that should have ultimately made my vehicle unserviceable, Susan made it happen. A few months ago, they told me I had a blown head gasket. I asked if they had done a block test to check for combustion gas in the coolant. They said they had not done this test, which seemed weird to me because that is how every other mechanic in the world would check for a blown head gasket. I just did the block test myself (costs $30 to do yourself). I did not find any evidence of a blown head gasket. Midas tried to trick me into a $1200 repair that I didn't need. After waking up to find that our rental car had a flat tire, We were not feeling like our weekend getaway to Vermont was off to a good start. The good news was, that we were parked in our hotel parking lot (not the worst place to discover you have a flat,) and serendipitously, there happened to be a Midas Auto Center across the street. We slowly drove the car over to Midas and kept our fingers crossed that this would be a repairable flat, and that it would be able to be patched quickly. The service we received was courteous and prompt, and the owners went out of there way to squeeze our repair in, so that we wouldn't be stranded on the first day of our vacation. Beyond the excellent repair service, the owner also spent some time sharing some hotspot ideas with us, and even printed out information and maps. In the end, this shop's generous and courteous management saved the day (literally,) and helped get us back on the road in no time. Thanks! read more

Told me I needed $1200 of brake work..I said no, paid the $30 brake inspection charge and asked them to put my car back together. Waited 7 days to get on the schedule with a mechanic I trusted. I ordered a set of tires through tirerack.com and had them shipped to Midas for installation. I hadn't been to the shop prior to this service. I contacted them a couple of times to ensure the tires had been delivered, make an appointment for mounting and balancing, and to ask a few questions about the process. A team member, Kyle, worked with me and made the process pleasant, convenient, and simple. He treated me as though I had been a valued customer for many years. The tires were installed quickly without any issues. They inspected my vehicle for any safety concerns or problems and did not find anything wrong. Waiting for the service was actually enjoyable because of Kyle's kindness, professionalism, and good nature. Not only did they not charge me to look at a car i was possibly going to purchase.. they let me hang out until the crazy guy i was going to buy car from came over and would not let me put on the lift... these guys were sooo busy, but took the time to help someone in need out. If i hadn't brought it there. I would've bought a Audi A8 with a blown head gasket.. i will be a life long customer there, and recommend anyone to bring a possible vehicle they are going to purchase there.. After a really awful experience at the Jeep dealership in Inwood, NY (Forgot to change my oil) Mark & Chris went above and beyond to save me money on my oil change and brake change. They were fair and thorough with the work performed on my vehicle. They even did a temporary fix for my muffler to ensure I'd make it back to New York safely since I can't afford to get it fixed at the moment. As a solo female traveler I do feel a bit safer knowing there are mechanics out there that aren't trying to take advantage of me. read more
