I've been coming here with my car for over 10 years for great service and the super nice, friendly employees! They are prompt with service if you make an appointment and I always trust the quality of their work and recommendations for maintenance. These guys tell it to you straight and I've never once felt that they are trying to upcharge me or sell me on something I don't need. Their inspection reports now even include photos, so you can see exactly what may need fixing now or in the future. As someone with basically no knowledge of vehicle mechanics and engines, I appreciate their honesty and clear explanations. Prices are very reasonable and you can usually find coupons online as well if you check their website. The shop is spotlessly clean with a waiting area with complimentary coffee pods, water, tv, and secure wifi. Today I stopped in due to a tire losing air. Got an appointment within 3 days. During the appointment I got to enjoy their comfy waiting room with a coffee machine which was good and tasty. It took them about 2.5-3 hours to mount, replace, balance and align the rusty Tahoe... that's decent on a Tuesday after work. I went in to have a muffler pipe re-clamped because it had come loose, they recommended welding it because there wasn't enough space for the clamp, and the welds ended up looking like someone who's never touched a welder had done. They also installed two hangers near the resonator but the spots they welded them made the tailpipe hang at almost a 45 degree angle and it looked horrible. I called them back the next day and they offered to fix their work if I paid for a new pipe to replace the piece they welded. I opted to have them clamp the main pipe after the Y pipe because there's no sense in trusting them to weld it right a second time. After having the rework done yesterday the tailpipe is still hanging fairly low and they didn't check all the connection points and the resonator separated from the muffler while I was driving as it got noticeably louder. I pulled over and took a picture on the side of the road. I ended up getting under the truck and reconnected the two pieces myself. Get those guys some welding training and maybe start rechecking the work before calling it done, especially after someone comes back to have low quality work remediated. The only reason you got two stars is because you guys tried to fix the work. read more

We have been coming to this Midas for 15+ yrs. Manager Rob is the Nicest guy! Always helps us balance between what needs to be fixed, what we were willing to pay at the time (& what can wait a bit longer). He helped us decide what to do when one car was beyond repair. He even helped us when we called from WI when the car was acting up! We trust his judgement. Different mechanics have worked on our cars during our 15+ years going there, but this Midas location has always done good work. We credit these guys for keeping our cars running & even delaying having to buy new when we were about to give up. The waiting room has several chairs, magazines & they have WiFi. It is on a very busy corner, near 35E. Take a right in if you are coming from the East. Go Lex Pkwy, Race, Alaska if coming from the West. I have never been so disappointed in my life. Not even one star worthy. I have come to this Midas for years for oil changes and other minor items. I will NEVER come back here again. And I have told all of my family and friends what horrible bullshit service I just received from this place. I am a 26 year old female that knows nothing about cars. That was taken advantage of by the Service Manager Rob Forrest. My previous oil change I was told I needed an alignment, so I came in this time asking for an oil change and an alignment. Right away he told me they may not be able to do one depending on if anything is loose. Oh what do you know they called me a half an hour later to let me know they can't do the alignment due to needing a tie rod. Not knowing anything about cars I was sure that was true. But not for $455. I took my car to a well known mechanic in the neighborhood a few days later to get an alignment and a tie rod. Only to have him call me to tell me NOTHING is wrong with my car. I don't even need an alignment. Saved myself $455, found a new TRUSTED mechanic, and learned my lesson, For that 1 star was given. read more

I first encountered this shop when I was driving home on 35e from work for a quick lunch and my tire blew out on the freeway right at my exit (w 7th in st paul). I knew the midas was there so I limped myself over there. They were able to get a new tire put on for me in 1/2 hour & I was back to work with nobody the wiser! And my car has skinny performance tires which aren't always easy to find, yet they had them in stock! I have since gone here for a few different things and have been very impressed. They are courteous, don't try to sell me anything I don't need, and have always been johnny on the spot, getting me fixed up right away. During rush hour evening traffic recently, I sustained a flat tire with quick deflation and needed to pulled off the 35E exit. My closest exit option was at West Seventh St. A safe stopping area was to my immediate right, directly into the Midas Auto Service Center parking lot. I couldn't believe my luck that they were still opened and able to immediately help with taking off the flat tire and installing my spare. They not only saved my day but were fast, efficient, friendly and offered advice. Would highly recommend this service center. read more

This place... where to begin with this place. They used to give me such great service and are very friendly, but they haven't been able to fix all of my car problems right away. Granted, I have an old POS, but they should have been able to identify the problem(s) faster and fixed them by now. The heat in my car went out and they told me I had to replace part of the vent system. $150 later the heat only worked when I would apply my foot to the gas. So they said the circulation flap was bent and had to replace that. The heat worked for all of 2 days and they didn't realize my coolant holder is larger than on normal cars and hadn't filled it. They refilled it. Again, the heat only worked when my foot was applied to the gas. So far they have only charged me for trying to fix it the first time. The towing company dumped my car at their door on a Friday night and I filled out the early bird drop-off form. They open at 8am and my car wasn't examined until 2pm the following day. They said, "We have it in the shop and it's working fine." That's wonderful! My car ALWAYS works when it's in your shop. I could care less if it works in your confined, heated space. Take it out on the road so when the heat doesn't work and it completely breaks down and smells like it's about to catch on fire; then you can tell me nothing is wrong. They kept the car longer and seem to have finally identified and fixed the problem, but we'll see. read more

I resisted giving the "neutral" rating of three stars, to give them the benefit of the doubt. On the one hand, the shop was clean, counter staff person was friendly, wifi worked and they had free soda to offer. They also took my car in right away and I was a walk-in for service. **On the other hand** I was there for just over two hours, and charged an electronics diagnostic fee, for them to determine that the reason my headlights were out was that I needed new light bulbs. The bulbs, I believe, cost about $10 at Autozone. In the past, I have replaced my own light bulbs - pop the hood, disconnect the connection thing, pull the light assembly out, remove dead bulb, put in new bulb without touching it with bare hands, push light back in, reattach connection, put hood down. I will admit that I did not check my own light bulbs because I noticed that both were out, and I thought that was unlikely. As in, what are the odds that both light bulbs went? That said, I am not a mechanic. I feel like troubleshooting "lights out" for a mechanic should start with: are light bulbs dead. (Right?) I also would have accepted the 2+ hour of waiting for them to realize it, since it didn't occur to me either. I get it, both lights out at the same time... **However** charging me the electronics diagnostic fee? That is what feels wrong. When I looked surprised, the polite man at the counter said, "I am sorry, but I have to charge you for it because we've been working on it for two hours. I can charge you full price for the light bulbs and discount the additional labor charge on bulb replacement, but still charge you for electronics diagnostics." I'm going with four stars hoping this was just an unusual thing, and giving them the benefit of the doubt. They seem like nice people. If I go back, I will update my review. read more

This is not the normal shop I go to for mechanical services but it is located close to my work where the shift cable failed in our company parking lot. I was going to have my car towed to my mechanic in Roseville (way across town). An associate told me to go to Midas because he goes there and was happy with them so I ordered a tow and the tow was able to pop the cable in where it should have been so I could drive it to Midas. The problem was diagnosed and serviced and they sent me on my way with what I believed was a repaired car. Drove to get some gas and stopped to buy my daughter a soda from a C store and the shift failed again. So I called and was told to get a tow and to bring it back to the shop that way. I am told that the part originally put in does not meet a design specification. Midas got a different part that meets the design specifications for my car and paid for the tow. The whole experience wasn't pleasant for me but the Midas staff went out of their way for someone who was not their customer to make sure I was happy and they were very accommodating. Their warranty on parts and labor does mean something. I would recommend them and special thanks to Shawn for coordinating the services. read more

The most terrible place I've ever visited. Too expensive and they do a terrible job. After checking my car they told me that I needed the left wheel bearing changed because of the strange sound ( I visited another place and it was simply fixed in minutes). Furthermore, they didn't tighten up the front wheels. I started driving and almost got into an accident. Had to come back immediately. They didn't even say sorry. This is the only shop (The one on West 7th Street in Saint Paul, Minnesota) I had doing the oil changes on my 2015 6 Cylinder Honda Accord, since the day I bought the car with low miles on it from Inver Grove Honda. At some point they overtightened my oil pan bolt and put in an oversized bolt to try and cover up the problem they'd caused. This oversized bolt didn't match the threads of the hole, so overtime the bolt just continued to eat away at the threads in the oil pan. Eventually this oversized oil pan bolt failed, and it no longer was able to form a seal at the oil pan. So my mint 2015 Honda started leaking oil. At first I didn't know why every light on my dashboard was going crazy. But I wasn't far from Inver Grove Honda so I took it directly to them. They found that the oil pan had been destroyed by Midas and so they had to put in a new oil pan. Cost around $960. I called up Joe Stranik who owns Stranik Incorporated and two Midas shops around town. Stranik was a total jerk and refused to accept full responsibility for the damage. He offered me around $300. I told him to go soak his head. I am now suing them in court for the $960. Also, I do have a letter from Inver Grove Honda agreeing with me that Midas did destroy my oil pan by overtightening it and putting in an oversized oil pan bolt. Stranik didn't care, he seems to want to go to court. I offered to settle with him for $800 and he said no and that he would prefer to go to court. What a cool local business man he is. He makes millions off of the community and refuses to accept basic responsibility for the damages his workers caused to my Honda Accord. He did say I could have brought the car to them to put in the oil pan! Really! Like I want these idiots who don't know how to tighten a bolt on an oil pan to do more work on my Honda! I wasn't about to ever let them touch my car ever again, so of course I brought the car to Inver Grove Honda who always do a professional and competent job of repairing my Hondas. They do all of my oil changes now as well. Be very wary of bringing your car to Midas, He owns the other Midas shop on University as well. I wouldn't bring my car to either one of their shops. Stranik is essentially a man with little or no ethics. If they damage your car, you are on your own. Expect no help from them. read more

This Midas location was a godsend for us. We were on a vacation from Texas to Duluth, headed back home, when our car sputtered our at the exit by this Midas. I was able to coax our vehicle into the Midas lot. They quickly identified the problem. We were out of oil, but we had no warning since our oil light did not come on and the car seemed to be running normally. Midas Services our car, advised us to check the oil after every couple of fill-ups, and had us back on the road in 45 minutes. We made it back to Texas safely after another 2 1/2 days of driving. When we arrived home we found a letter discussing a class action suit against our auto maker for high burning oil in vehicles such as ours. So it has been a week since I dropped off my 1978 Chevy c10 that I am getting ready for street machine nationals off at Midas. I took my truck up for a simple job mounting some rims and tires brand new by the way! I went outside because it felt like it was taking longer then it should to get it done. When I go out I see Rob the manager on the tire machine with my brand new rims trying to work the tire on. I was like ok I guess he just started them just now so as I'm watching Rob hits the pedal on the tire machine and my brand new rim flys off of the tire machine and lands on some metal that they have on the side Rob thinks it's pretty funny and laughs about it and starts joking with me and tells me I just broke his tire machine no you broke it Rob with your inexperience. My rim is now damaged because your inexperience Rob still thinks it's funny and all I want is my rim fixed or repaired! I ended up calling Midas corporate the next day but it's been a week and haven't gotten back to me. I ended up bringing my truck to the local Bp where they got the job done in under thirty minutes. I went to W 7th Midas because my exhaust was starting to rattle and had an exhaust leak, and I was hoping to get an estimate before it got any worse. I rolled in about 4:45 expecting a wait to have them check it out. I was happy there was NO WAIT, they happily put it on the lift, and diagnosed the problem as a broken weld, and leaky spot at the clamp. I was excited they were able to minimize the cost with a new piece of pipe and clamp, leaving in place the perfectly fine muffler and resonator. Best of all they could do it right away. Out the door in under an hour. I'll definitely be going back for more business there. The manager had a happy personality which I really like too. read more
