All good things must come to an end. We have been going to see the same auto mechanic for over 20 years. We enjoyed going to see our mechanic Dan about as much as you can enjoy going to see someone that is going to cost you money. :) Anyhow Dan was always honest and great to work with. Dan has retired and as fate would have it, we had some repairs that needed to be done. So I turned to YELP for help and located Lloyds. Lloyds was getting some great reviews which is always a good sign when dealing with anything automotive, so we decided Lloyds it was. I initially contacted Lloyds on their website for an appointment as I was out of town at the time and it was a Saturday evening. I received an email reply and call Monday morning and they were able to get me in the next day. My wife dropped off our truck in the morning and they then drove her to work. What a great service. I'm sure there is some limit on how far they will take you, however still a great service. We received a call late morning on what the problem was and we were told they could fix it and we could pick up our truck that evening. How about that for quick work! We paid over the phone and the whole process was very efficient. A few weeks later we were again out of town and had some car issues. (We're not going out of town anymore). Once again Lloyds was able to get us in right away. Again they called early afternoon with an update. I believe I spoke with Nick or Jim. They had advised that they noticed a couple of other items are our car would be needing attention soon. This type of news is like getting a check up from the dentist and the dentist telling you by the way you need a root canal. The difference here is I really appreciate the notice and efficiency. With our car we plan to hold onto for another year and this saves us time and money as we would have had to come back later for these items. So even though it was additional money, its great service to advise us of a future need. Lloyds has been great to work with so far. They have been really efficient and extremely fast with their service. The drop you off at work is also really nice. Conveniently located on Grand Ave, a big shop with professional and friendly service. Car parts break down. Repairs are expensive. It's to be expected if you drive a car. After trying multiple other shops in the area over the years, I'm glad I landed at Lloyd's. They have given me the least painful experience when it comes to auto repair services. They never try to sell me anything I don't need, but they do thorough inspections and let me know about possible maintenance that will be needed in the near future. The first time I came to Lloyd's, there were three problems with my car. They did not force me to complete all three repairs at once! They offered me options in three steps, with three different prices. The first option was the cheapest and included only the repairs that would fix the major safety issues. The other quotes were more expensive, and included repairs that were needed but not necessarily safety issues or things that I could not drive around on for a little while. I really appreciated their attention to the safety of my vehicle, and the option to wait on less urgent repairs. I eventually returned to complete the other non-urgent repairs. The employees are incredibly friendly and are able to explain very technical issues in a way that I can understand. I was sitting in my car crying when I called Loyds. From the moment I first spoke to them to the moment I picked up my car it felt like a big hug. I had just been told by another shop that they thought it was a rod but they didn't have a diesel mechanic so bye, when I called them. The people at Loyds we caring and kind. It was important to them that I understand what was happening with my car how much it was going to cost and when I would get it back. Quickly by the way. Another place said they couldn't start it for a week. The person who drove me home told me that this was a place where people liked to work most over ten years. I have to say that makes me happy. I can't believe I'm about to write my most glowing Yelp review about a car repair shop, but seriously, I was so impressed by the level of service I received today that I had to share. I blew out my front tire the other day and was dreading having to take it into a Tires Plus or similar outfit where they practically browbeat you into purchasing additional services or parts while simultaneously treating you like the biggest moron on earth (or if you're a woman, the dyslexic red-headed stepchild of the biggest moron on earth). After seeing Lloyd's on AAA's website, however, I decided to check them out. Everyone I met at Lloyd's was extremely friendly. They were able to explain exactly what my car needed without being patronizing and the service was fast and efficient. Turns out the car didn't need some of the work I thought it needed, and the rates were reasonable for the work that was done. From my first experience with Lloyd's (when the phone was answered in two rings) to the moment I picked my car up (ready the same day and work/cost exactly as estimated) my experience was fantastic. When I mentioned that I'd like to drop my car off before work, the technician told me they'd be happy to have someone give me a ride to work. Within a few hours of dropping it off, I was called with an update: my foreign and difficult-to-work-on car had a coolant leak, they had a source for the necessary part, and the work would be done before 6 pm. He gave me an estimate for the work, answered my questions, and was friendly and helpful. They were extremely busy in the shop (as I was waiting for the ride, several people showed up wanting to drop off cars without an appointment) and still they did the work well, quickly, and at a reasonable cost. I'm very picky about where I get my car worked on. It's one of those quirky European brands, which means a.) many places can't even touch them and b.) those who do charge a whole lot of dough. Lloyd's services all sorts of imports and domestic cars, including mine. Most importantly, they stick to their (very reasonable) estimates and deliver quality work on time and on budget. It seems like not too much to ask, but so many mechanics can't do this. They also always make sure to clear an estimate with me, which shows how much they respect their customers. Backstory: I got new plates when I paid for my tabs this year. Front plate, I changed with no problem. The back plate was a different story. Apparently my less-than-subtle screwdriver prying combined with years of rust to hermetically seal the plate to the car. Aggh! Different plates on front and back? That's a recipe for a big ticket. No appointment, late in the day and yet they helped me with graciousness and a seemingly miraculous lack of judgement on my non-existent automotive skills. For everything. Our neighbor recommended Lloyd's to us and I am forever grateful that he did. Not only do I LOVE supporting a local shop and being able to have an option other than the dealer, but this particular local shop happens to be top-notch. My husband took our car the first time and came back to report that "that was the best, most clean, most awesome service shop I've ever been to." In addition to being a pretty building, we've found the service at Lloyd's to be outstanding on so many levels. Among the things we love: -Honesty and integrity. They do what they say they will do when they say they will do it. Period. -They are realistic. We recently bought a new car after the guys at Lloyd's diagnosed my husband's car as needing a repair that would have cost $2K. Rather than trying to convince us to pay them to do the repair, they advised us in a straightforward manner, helping us weighs the pros and cons of cutting our losses on the vehicle and honestly trying to help us make a good decision rather than just looking to make more money. -They honestly want to help. They often will squeeze us in on a Saturday or other day to try to make it convenient for us. When we were buying that new car, we called them several times for advice and actually had them look the new vehicle over before we purchased. Every time they were helpful and gave their time freely (on top of squeezing in the inspection). -They call before they do anything we have not discussed and explain what needs to be done, why and the cost. And they talk in English. -They are actually cheaper sometimes. They charge us less than $30 for oil changes... I used to pay more than that at the oil and lube chains with a coupon for more shoddy work. -They care about your car and your business. I can't tell you the number of times we've had someone at Llloyd's say something like, "We change your oil and rotated the tires and while we were in there we noticed that XXX needed to be fixed or tightened or filled or changed, so we just did that for you while we were there. No charge." If it's something small or requires the twist of a wrench, they will just do it for you as a courtesy because they want your cars to run well and for you to be a loyal customer. -They get to know you. The guys at Lloyd's learn about you, your driving habits, etc. If we ran into one of them around town, they'd call us by name and ask how we are. We've reached the point with Lloyd's where we have built up a lot of trust, and if the guys there suggest we do something, we usually tell them to go right ahead and do it. It is incredibly refreshing to have a service shop we both like and trust, and I am more than happy to endorse their work, their work ethic and their services to anyone. Gush! read more

Hands down, the best, most wonderful experience at an auto shop ever. They are quick, efficient, and most important, extremely trustworthy. When I first moved to the Cities I went to a few places and they all tried to take advantage of me. This place has never suggested any repairs beyond my regular oil change (about $38) and when I do need repairs, I will only go to them. It's such a relief to know I can trust my auto shop! The online appointment scheduling is great, they always confirm your appointment within 24 hours. Also, the location is great, it's about a block away from the Caribou on Grand so it's nice to drop off your car and go have coffee, and they call you when they are finished. I read the reviews and decided to give them a call... Man, am I glad I did... The issue was a corroded wire... A lot of shops would have done a lot of unnecessary work on the truck and charged me some outrageous amount and they may or may not have fixed the original issue... I completely recommend Lloyd's... Not a huge deal to be honest, wasn't in dire need to get replaced but, I called asking how much it would cost to do my front break pads and rotors on a 15 Altima and I was referred by a friend to check this place out because of value. Maybe I was misquoted but Midas, the actual NISSAN dealership, and just about everywhere else were around 200 or under but when I called Lloyds he told me around 450ish ! that was a easy decision. Yeah. It's very rare that you get great service and quality work. I had a mechanic say, choose two. You can get two of these but not all three: 1. Fast 2. Good quality 3. Cheap Lloy'ds is timely and great quality. When you rely on your car for your livelihood, #3 becomes less relevant and the focus is on the first two. Lloyd's delivers on all three (my European vehicle is generally not cheap to fix - so my pricing isn't comparable to what the average repair would cost with them, but they seem very reasonable). They have been more than fair with my generally very expensive repairs and apply a AAA discount to ALL their customers regardless of AAA membership status. read more

I brought my car to Lloyd's automotive after my A/C blower stopped working. I had read very positive reviews, especially from young women like me who were satisfied with their experience at Lloyd's. Initially I was treated kindly and was even offered a ride to the light rail so I could get to work. The first red flag for me was when I asked for an engine scan because my check engine light had recently lit up, they said it would be over $100 for a scan (I went to Jiffy Lube the next day and they did it for free). After dropping my car off I got a call from Lloyd's with a very high estimate on a replacement for my blower. I was suspicious so I asked my father to call the shop and discuss the repairs. After this call, Lloyd's called me back with a reduced estimate. In the end, I asked for a second opinion from an automotive shop that I trust. Though not as conveniently located for me, the estimates they gave me were well under the price Lloyd's provided. Overall, I did not have a positive experience. I feel like they took advantage of me due to my inexperience in dealing with automotive services and lack of knowledge about cars. I will not be going back. read more
