Car was having an issue with its wheel that was real concerning and wanted to get it checked out. Called them at 5:15 and they closed at 6, just to see if they could check it out and they happily did. I had to bring back a few days later and they did an excellent job with great diligence and for a very reasonable price. I came in to Midas on Stamford's main street for a replacement of my tires. If you're reading this review, please heed my warning. Do not, under any circumstances, allow them to lift your car. As soon as I drove my '87 porsche 944S home after they replaced the tires, I went to inspect it to make sure they didn't damage it. Lo and behold, two dents on the rocker panels where they lifted the car. I immediately went back to Midas to ask to be reimbursed. However, they denied all fault and told me that my car must have come in damaged. After speaking to the manager of the franchise, I only got the same answer. I'm in the process of taking them to small claims court as I write. If you value your automobile, don't take it to this location. They're a bunch of inbred crooks. read more

We took our car for a muffler service and was charged $1500!!! which took all of a couple of hours. Two days later, we had a car engine light come on. They offered to do a "diagnostics" and of course determined that the problem was not related to the work they did. Yes, this could very well have been a coincidence, but I highly doubt it. We've kept our cars in top shape and had it maintained regularly. It all sounds very suspicious, more of a gut feeling really, and my gut is telling me this place is not trustworthy. read more

I had to take my car three times and turned out not much repair was needed. They did it for free as only minor problem had to be fixed. I took it for engine repair after flood damage from Ida for which they could not determine what the cost was. Once again they did not charge anything. Seem very honest. Get an estimate before agreeing to the work and check with other shops. Their parts cost are 2 to 3 times what they should be. Brake drums for a Toyota Corolla should be $40 a piece, this location is charging $99 a piece, plus labor. The brakes shoes cost about $30, they're charging $66. Over seven hours to get four tires replaced. Made an appointment online three days prior and never received a confirmation - supposedly there were computer issues. Was told I needed four new tires and the tires would arrive in an hour. Left with the car for a couple hours and came back. Tires still not there. Left the car there and came back an hour later - car still sitting in the parking lot. Car finally starts getting worked on and then I learn that one of the four tires delivered is incorrect and have to wait for the correct one to arrive. Was told the correct tire would arrive in five minutes - did not leave until over an hour after that. Whole process started before 9AM and ended around 4:30PM. To add insult to injury I found out there was an "instant 100-off special" for purchasing four new tires - this was not offered to me nor was it reflected on the receipt. read more

I would not recommend this Midas to anyone, unless you know your car well because they will "create" work for themselves with your car. They did something to my car after they looked at it for something TOTALLY different... but now needs $2,000+ worth of work. There is always "new" management at this Midas for some reason. read more

I called early morning Saturday to see if it were possible to fit me in for a synthetic oil change and fortunately, they were able to! I drove right over and the two staff members I spoke with were both really friendly and helpful. When I asked if there were any discounts or coupons online I could use towards my oil change, they said that there were a few coupons on the site but unfortunately, none for synthetic oil changes. They said they would speak with their manager and see if there was anything that they could do for me. I sat for a few minutes but eventually left to walk somewhere for coffee while my car was in shop- I think in total it only took about an hour and a half (and thats also probably because I came in without an appointment and they had other customers who did make an appointment. The prices are a little high for me, but I was given a $10 discount and that was nice. I have other shops I'd go to first based off of cost alone, but I'd come back as they squeezed me in, we super friendly and pretty quick. the location is nice too since you don't have to sit there the whole time and you can easily walk around downtown. read more

Dropped my car off on Friday night for service on Saturday morning with my suspension and front brakes. Got a call from the shop on Saturday morning informing me of what they found, and their suggested work. Told them I would come down to the shop to get a better understanding of what was wrong and the options I had. Arrived at the shop by 8:30am and briefly talked to the workers, discussed my options, and signed off on $2,000+ worth of work (parts and projected labor). Was told that my car would be ready by the middle of the afternoon. I got a call at 8:45am from the shop asking if I knew where the wheel lock tool was in my car. I told them I did not know where specifically, but I had the car worked on in February at a different location and they were able to remove the wheels using the tool, so it should be in my trunk. The worker told me they would search around the car and let me know what they found. (When I went to pick the car up I learned that Midas' "expert technicians" broke the locks on my front wheels because they could not locate the tool, even though I was told I'd get a call letting me know if they found the tool after calling me at 8:45am AND told them the tool was in the trunk, which I later looked for and found right where I said it would be.) I got a call at 10:52am indicating that all of the work on my car was complete. Arrived at the shop before 11:30am, paid the amount due and received my invoice. Today when I was reviewing the invoice, I saw that I was charged $593.71 for labor. My understanding was that I would be charged $124/hour for labor (2.5 hours @ $124/hour= $310). I called Midas customer service and ended up talking to three different people about this issue. Each of them explained that each job has a "state regulated" amount of time attached to it, approximate work time is usually a little bit higher than actual work time because unforeseen issues come up, etc. By two of the higher ups, I was also told that I should be happy because "Midas' great mechanics completed the job quicker than expected" and "if we lived in a world where technicians were paid by the number of hours it took them to complete their work, we'd live in a world of very wealthy technicians because they'd all do their work very leisurely" by each person I spoke to. It is clear that Midas knows their policy is very dirty, and they have created talking points to have their workers regurgitate when they are questioned about it. I understand that all repairs do not go smoothly, and sometimes there are additional issues that come about, but I believe that customers should pay for the work and time put into their car- when a job takes 2.5 hours to complete instead of the projected 5 hours, the customer should not be charged for a nonexistent 2.5 hours of additional labor. Will NOT be returning to any Midas location. read more

I have never written a Yelp review before, but the service with this company is awful enough to prompt one; it is shoddy at best and dangerous at worst. Do not be fooled by relatively low prices and the guarantee of free brake pads for life. You are much better off--and safer--visiting one of the many stellar local mechanics in the Stamford area. I began working with Midas at this location when I had major brake repair done on my car three years ago. In those three years (with only 30,000 miles put on my car driving between my home and the train station in that time) I have had to replace the brake pads and rotors no less than three times, with a fourth on the rear because the installation continued to cause noise and vibration for months after the original installation. Even when the rear pads and rotors were replaced due to poor installation, I was still charged for labor. More recently, one of the two calipers they installed seized and caused my brakes to fail on I-95, nearly causing a dangerous accident. I had the damage reviewed by two separate mechanics who both confirmed the same caliper failure, and commented on the low quality of the part used. After calling Midas, and going through two management levels, they finally offered to repair caliper that failed with an identical one from the same manufacturer, but could not guarantee any discount over $200 on a $1,000+ repair (if they could provide any discount at all--which they only "might be able to do" by "putting pressure on" the SAME manufacturer that provided the caliper that failed, as they could not even promise to provide a different part or a range of different qualities). One of the gentlemen I spoke with actually suggested that it could not have been a caliper problem at all, despite multiple diagnoses and personal confirmation, as both calipers would have necessarily have had to fail at precisely the same time for anything they installed to be at fault (this is absurd). I was incredibly disappointed that the company failed to stand by their work for a regular customer or even offer to provide three miles of towing services to their location, despite the fact that what they installed failed dangerously in a far shorter period of time than normal. If you have brake work done here, expect to be back to visit frequently, to pay more than you expect each time, and to be kept waiting for long periods during each repair session. Your safety is more valuable than free brake pads; go elsewhere. read more

I recently had a very good experience at Midas, on Main Street in Stamford CT. The Y-Pipe on my muffler cracked and the car sounded like a truck. Went to Midas and worked with one of the techs there, Simon, who was excellent. He put the car on the lift and showed me exactly where the problem was. He gave me a quote of $1,900 to basically replace everything, but said he could also try to weld where the crack was instead. He was very upfront about the fact that he could not guarantee how long the weld would last (two weeks/one year?) because all the metal near the weld area was so rusted. But the weld was only $250, so I asked him to do it. He did the weld two weeks ago, and the car purrs like a kitten now. If I keep the car, I know I'll eventually have to do the $1,900 repair, but Simon's honesty allowed me to put off an expensive repair to some later time when I'm feeling wealthier. I was very impressed with Simon's expertise, his honesty, and his great customer service ethic. I would highly recommend him to everyone. read more

I went in for an oil changed and of course they found several things wrong with the car that needed immediate fixing. Fine, I had them do the additional work because I'd rather be safe than sorry. The service was efficient and friendly, but as I was going through the paperwork, Eddie asked if I wanted to sign up for their membership rewards program. Turns out, he was signing me up for a credit card that I DID NOT WANT. At no point during our conversation did he say anything about a credit card, he just talked about getting points every time I came in, etc. Now maybe I should have pushed a little harder, but if a salesperson is trying to sign me up for a credit card, they typically use the words "credit card" in the conversation. This never happened. I just hope that the work they did on my car is more reliable than the sales people here. read more

DON'T GO TO MIDAS! I'm a young girl who doesn't know anything about cars. So I went to Midas. I went in to get my steering noises repaired and came out with nearly 1k in repair. They insisted on changing my radiator which was not even a concern (there was no overheating). I should've been suspicious about how many times they called back to give a "discount" and to convince me to change the radiator. They also declined some important services WITHOUT MY CONSENT because I said I wanted it cheaper. Since they changed the radiator, I've been having problems on problems. The last time I went there, I was given such an attitude by Shawn that I was absolutely done with them. Eddie would be so helpful and polite, but the way Shawn spoke to me really upset me. I went to Midas because I heard a scratching noise on my brakes and someone recommended them. I left my car there. I should have taken the time to look up the reviews before I left my car, but I didn't in one of the reviews I read the woman said that they refused to give her her car back and they told her that her car was dangerous to drive and they strong-armed her. I later received a call from the shop saying that my car was going to cost almost $2,000, but if he took off some of the work he could bring it down to $1,300 to have the brakes repaired. He asked me if I was in healthcare and said he was going to give me a discount. I asked him why would he ask me that. he said they were looking through the trunk of my car for my wheel lock. I thought why in the world would they search through my car they should have called me and asked me where the wheel lock was I suddenly didn't trust them. The bad review with them searching through my trunk was all I needed to confirm that I wanted to get as far away from them as possible. I told them give me my car back and I returned to the shop to pick it up. I tried to talk to the mechanic who was working on my car as he pulled my car out but a man rushed him inside and would not let him talk to me. He told me he would call me a tow truck I asked him why he said because your car is dangerous to drive and if you do drive it you will be putting your life in danger. I told him that was okay then he became angry and his face changed and he got on the computer and started banging away typing pounding the keys. I remember the review that I had just read I said to myself they are doing the same thing to me that they did to the woman. if you don't want the work done by Midas their attitude completely changes. he then again told me my car wasn't safe. He handed me a piece of paper and said I had to sign before he gave me my key back. I looked at what he had me sign. I asked him for a copy he said your copy is in the envelope. he must have thought I was stupid because once I signed he never gave me a copy of what I signed. At that point he became downright nasty and was snapping at me. I told him that I was going to take my car 2 someplace to have what he told me verified. I said "if they tell me what you said then I will know that you told the truth" but I told him as a woman we are constantly taken advantage of and I wasn't going to have it. My personal opinion which is based on my experience is that if you take your car to Midas in Stamford Please be aware that whatever they tell you they will expect you to accept it unquestioningly, or they will be nasty and bang on the computer ask you to sign something and refuse to give you a copy of what you signed. regardless of what the final outcome is with my car I will never ever go to another Midas anywhere in the world because of the nasty way the man treated me. read more

Went here for brakes and was told I needed new pads, rotors, caliper, back break alignment and flush = 916.00. Gave this list to Meineke and they quoted me 700.00, and the guy said he doubted I needed new calipers. Went to Hank Mays and didn't' mention what Midas had said at all. They came back and said I need only new breaks, rotors and flush only. I didn't need the calipers or the back break aligned. Total from Hank Mays = 503.99. Midas overquoted and overcharged me by 400+ dollars. This place was a rip off. Needless to say I didn't get my breaks done here. Beware and get a second quote if you risk coming here. read more
