We called Stanford auto repair, which was the only repair shop that was open on a Saturday afternoon. Even though it was half an hour before closing time, they told us to come right over. They diagnosed the problem and fixed it, staying late to complete the work. They were incredibly helpful, courteous, and friendly, and we highly recommend them. read more

Don't go here ...the guy claimed to be a Porsche service tech so I dropped off my Porsche to look for an antifreeze leak and an oil change ..the leak was never found and they created another leak from my oil filter housing by not replacing the gasket ...I went to Porsche and they told me I needed a water pump which was leaking and an oil change because the housing was leaking and they had to perform an oil change to see if that was the problem...I went back to Stamford and the lady tells me oh that mechanic was fired last week ...don't go there read more

Stay away! They are thieves and incompetent. I had front end problems, and only went to Stamford Auto Repair b/c my then-mechanic required an appointment and I felt my car needed immediate service. The car was driven once by a mechanic, and he determined that new front struts were needed. They were installed, and were found by my regular mechanic to drop the minute the hood was opened. They also misinstalled a part for my power windows. They somehow reversed the polarity so that when I hit the button to raise a rear window it goes down, not up. When I brought my car back to have the struts reinstalled I had the same front end problems afterwards as I did before they were initially installed. And they continually tried to sell me parts and work I didn't need. Again, they are hustlers, thieves and incompetent. Go elsewhere... read more

Here's a bit of advice. Avoid Stamford Auto Repair on East Main Street. We were given a quote over the phone of $385 in parts to fix the steering tie-rods etc. along with $125 to do the alignment and a few hours of labor. Our final bill was almost $2K because they did the ball joints on the suspension without consulting us first and revising the quote!! (parts alone were $730) We paid, but my wife laid into them over the phone. It's so upsetting to be so misquoted. At least be somewhat in the ballpark when it comes to quoting parts and labor. This place is horrible. The KID at the front desk does NOT have proper etiquete, he can barely talk you like a normal human being. Does not clarify any information on your vehicle, has no social skills and has NO BUSINESS working in this place or anywhere else with how he conducts business. Short story: Avoid this place like the plague. After bringing my truck there 3 times for the same 2 (seemingly minor) issues and $700+ later, my vehicle is literally in the exact same state as it was before. I hardly post reviews and often ignore the extreme lows and high reviews, but feel obligated to share my horrendous experience to hopefully save someone else their money and time. Long story: I first brought my truck here to fix the engine light (oil sensor issue) and my AC was not pumping cold air. Called to schedule an appointment and gave all the information. Show up, repeat everything again and the front desk guy takes zero notes. Few hours later he called to tell me that they reset the check engine light, nothing is wrong with the car and it's all done and come pick up the truck, so I then remind him about the AC. He then forgets to call to tell me the truck is ready and it's a couple days before it's "fixed". 2 weeks later, I brought the truck back because the check engine light came back on, because they only reset it and didn't actually fix anything. This time he replaces the oil sensor, resets the check engine light. 1 week after that, the check engine light is back on and AC doesn't blow cold air. I brought the truck in again. They told me that the AC has no leaks and they recharged it. They also have no idea what to do about the check engine light and to bring it to the dealer. Shortly after that, after not even driving the truck the AC is broken again. If you want to spend money for them to not fix anything, this is the place for you! read more

I had a light on my dash and I brought the car in. They originally said there was damage to my control arm and we're gonna order the part but it would take a week to come in and it's not safe to drive my car around. They recommended checking auto zone and they would only charge me for labor Which was around $434. When they finally took of the part they said my steering knuckle was broken and That was a special order for around $275 for the part alone. I said no I rather try a local junk yard cause that's where they we're going to buy the part from anyways. I got all the parts and when I finally got my car back they said the light is still on and they thought the work they did would shut off the light and requested that they do another diagnostic to see what's going on..... like what do you mean. It's already been 5 days for you to look at my car and the day I'm getting it back you said there's more to do.... No way! The labor alone cost me close to $600 which I don't mind paying as long as I had a smooth running car. That was not the case. The tire looked slightly crooked when I got home. And driving on the highway made me nervous because I could feel that something was off. Now I have even more problems then I did before, thanks for nothing. read more

I was at this shop back in May 2021, I brought my car in multiple times for an AC issue. My car was seen 3x. Each time I was charged diagnostic and each time I was told my AC seem ok and all it needed was a re-charge which I did and paid for 3x. At the end the AC was still not working and after paying for recharges left and right the issue was the compressor which they now wanted to charge me $1600 for. I took my car to the dealer and they diagnosed right off the back that it was the compressor which now leads me to believe they only wanted to drain my money. NOW ISSUE #2, they talked me into doing breaks and changing my tires the 3rd time the recharged the AC, I requested my tires to be replaced with another 4 set of continental tires (which is the only tires i put on my car) I was given a quote and I gave them the go ahead, when I came back to pick up my car I came back to my car having "TOYO"" tires which is not what I agreed to, of course they talked up the tires about how great they are and all and at that point what else was I to do, I needed them and they were on my car. Fast forward 3 months from this, my tire pops when my father (a 67 yo very cautious drivers) swerved to avoid some idiot hitting him while trying to merge into his lane. Now I am left with a blown tire that this repair shop is taking no responsibility for when they were the ones that shoved these cheap tires down my throat mind you they charged me almost the same as the continental tires would have cost me. I will absolutely be reporting this business to the BBB for lack for transparency, for doing unnecessary services on my vehicle to charge me more and for not standing behind any of their work. IF YOU WANT SOME ADVISE STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE AND TAKE YOUR CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP IT WILL COST YOU LESS IN THE LONG RUN AND THEY ALWASY STAND BEHIND THEIR WORK... Brought my car in for a "specific " Hwy noise problem. Never test drove the car on the Hwy. They fixed another issue claiming that They needed to do so. Ok. $700. Brought the car back 3 weeks later because I don't drive the car a lot and noticed that the issue remained. This time I demanded an accompanied test drive. Driver said brakes/rotors and caliper should be replaced but isn't sure the noise will go away. Which would cost an additional $700. Oh and I should replace tires too. Who knows what that will cost me. And to top it off the owner argued claiming I said specific things that I didn't (because a customer was watching and the owner needed to sound right). It's funny, when I returned to the shop for the test drive he asked me who I was and what car did I have. Lol. But he remembers what I said when I dropped off the car to be fixed initially. Bottom line is yes maybe down the road I would of needed to replace those parts. Tires brakes etc. And the reason why they do this is because it's easier and more profitable for them to replace every possible thing to fix a problem rather than fix the exact problem. If it's in your budget to process of elimination to fix your car go to Stamford Auto. Otherwise go to a mechanic that can pinpoint the problem from the get go! read more

Amazing place! My husband's car had broke down when we were driving from NYC to Norwalk, CT. We called in for a part and quote, which they had when no one else did and gave us an accurate and fair quote (according to the tow truck driver). When we arrived they checked the car in a timely manner and recommended places to go in the surrounding area. After a long discussion and many questions (on our part) with Isaac (the owner), we decided that it was best to sell the car to the junk yard. Isaac set that up for us and kept our car for us. He even refused accepting the money from the junkyard that we wanted to split with him. Isaac and his staff genuinely cared about the people and have a lot of knowledge of cars. I would highly recommend them to anyone and I would make my way out to him from NYC if and when we purchase a car. Long overdue review: I found Isaac through yelp a few years ago when I had an Mercedes ML350 that had a ton of oil and engine issues. After a horrible car buying experience, I was worried about going through another bad experience trying to get the car fixed. Glad I found Isaac! He is an HONEST and very knowledgeable mechanic who will give you an honest opinion on whether or not it is worth spending the money to fix a car. In my case, he advised me that it was not worth spending thousands to fix the used ML350. I had purchased someone else's problems and had to trade it. I had an issue with my tire pressure, which ending up being a slow leak between the tire and the rim. It ended up being a reasonable and quick fix that I needed to get done before I was going out of town. They showed me exactly where the leak was and they took my tire off of the car itself. Everything was great originally and everyone was very nice; however, once I began driving again on the highway, my car began to vibrate and shake - which is what had happened once previously when the tires were not positioned properly and balanced. I unfortunately was heading out of town and unable to bring the car immediately back to the shop, but I did go back 4-6 days later and this is when they told me that my brakes probably need to be fixed, I need to pay for an alignment, or I need to pay for balancing. I explained my situation and they continued to tell me "We take tires off all the time, we know what we are doing". I thought this was a good shop at first but quickly went downhill. Stamford Auto Repair refuses to take any responsibilities for what they did wrong, instead of taking proper measures to not make another problem while fixing a problem already. read more
