I ordered 2 Chicken Shawarma wraps and a beef shawarma wrap from here. It's a restaurant inside a market. The restaurant side was very busy with a line. It moved fast, and my wraps were done way before the promised time. The wraps were decent in size, healthy filling for sure, so a great value, just not sure if wraps with tortilla are my thing when it comes to Mediterranean food. I would much rather prefer some pita bread. I also feel like both the beef and chicken lacked seasoning. The chicken was cubed as opposed to sliced strips. Overall it tasted good just not sure if I'd return anytime soon. read more

Right at the NW corners Foster & Clark Street is an awesome bakery and grocer serving up authentic imported and homemade Middle Eastern products. The selection they offer is smallish but the quality of what they offer is better than most places. Olives, pastries, veggies and all the ME staple you need. The pita bread selection is one of the best I've come by and always fresh. You can shop and then grab lunch or dinner in their attached cafe which serves up wonderful sandwiches and traditional plates and salads which also happen to be huge! A plate will almost guarantee you a second meal at home. Their wraps are exceptional and full of flavor accompanied by their homemade sauces and dressings. I'm a huge fan of their Gypsy wrap as well as their the falafel. Try their ME rice it's pretty tasty! One of the few fast casual places I know who still have real silverware instead of plastic and quality napkins. A huge thing for me. The dining area is cozy yet large enough that you're not smooshed in next to some stranger so that you can hear them chew. A great stop for a quick non fast food bite and authentic Middle Eastern fare. read more

Very cool spot! One side is a little restaurant where you can walk right up to the counter and order some amazing food. Theres a good amount of tables to sit and enjoy the food, but we also saw a few people taking their orders to go. The plates were prepared quickly and were absolutely delicious! We ordered a meat combination plate to try a bit of everything, and it was a ton of food for a reasonable price. We were able to share 1 combo plate between two people! After eating you can walk right over into the connected store that has a huge selection of baked goods and groceries! We only briefly walked through the grocery to see what they had to offer. I cant wait to go back to do some actual grocery shopping here and try some of their other menu options very soon! read more

When we walked in, we were immediately taken with the charm and coziness of this market which included a deli and bakery.The refrigerators were well stocked with home made goodies like hummus, lentil soup, sauces and more. Still a great place! My only recommendation is that they need to add expiration dates to their food. Nothing is dated. How can customers know when things are expiring? There are shelves and shelves of baklava. There are fresh soups and tabouli. Please make sure there are dates for people. read more

What happened to the delicious chicken schwarma?!!? This place USED to be my favorite. No discernable seasoning, no crispy bits, barely any THOUM garlic sauce. Meager pickles despite asking for extra pickles. Little chopped up cubes of chicken vs. slices from the delicious schwarma wheel. Also not JUICY. This pains me. It's still a good sized schwarma wrap. The guys on staff are still attentive and charming. The ambiance is the same, clean and bright dining area. But................................what happened!? This wonderful café is adjoining a popular grocery store where you can get delicious fresh falafel, and gyro plate plates for a reasonable price . Local restaurant/grocery store with a wide variety of premade food and ingredients. I come here commonly for the hand pies ($3 for one) and they are beyond worth the price. They have so many different kinds - lamb and potato, lentils, spinach and feta, triple cheese, artichoke and cheese and potato to name some of my favorites. They are densely packed with flavor, they are soy/sesame/peanut free and a good portion for the price. A few makes a great snack or lunch. The grocery store has many high quality ingredients - fresh cheeses, all types of dry bulk grains and beans, olive oils, canned goods, fresh nuts and dry fruit and more. The prices are reasonable for the goods too. The staff is helpful and friendly. I can't speak for the restaurant food but i intend on eating here sometime. Ordered from here for pickup. They were pretty fast despite being busy when I got there to pick it up. The place was bigger than I expected, and a very casual sort of place. It seemed like most people just ordered at the counter and grabbed a table or took it to go. A few people were working on their laptops. It was an interesting vibe. I ordered the falafel plate, a piece of baklava, and the kufta wrap. The baklava was very sweet, but it was quite small so it wasn't overwhelming. My husband and I split it and it was a nice little treat to end the meal. My husband didn't really like the kufta wrap, though when I tried it I thought it was ok. A bit of a "fishy" flavor to it which I couldn't really identify as it was supposed to be beef and lamb, but not terrible. I did like the falafel plate. The portion size was good. Probably more than I needed for myself for a single meal, but not enough to save leftovers. The falafel itself had nice flavor and didn't suffer from being too dry like a lot of places' falafel. For the price it was a good deal, though we usually try to get takeout that can work for 2 meals. I would definitely go back and try some of their other items in the future. read more

Good quality middle eastern food at reasonable prices. It gave more grab-and-go than eat-in kind of vibes but there were a good amount of tables available. Service was not the friendliest but efficient and the food came out quickly. I ordered the veggie wrap, which consists of roasted eggplant, roasted cauliflower, lettuce, and tomato in a lavash-style toasted wrap. The texture of the wrap was lovely because it was a bit crisp on the outside. I enjoyed the filling too but I'm deducting a star because it was so incredibly greasy. I was so impressed with the sweets section. We got baklava and namoura. The refrigerated dips and sauces were my absolute favorite part of the store. They had a habanero garlic sauce that is amazing if you like spicy food. We also got spicy hummus, the red pepper sauce, and a marinated eggplant (not baba ghanouj). Middle East Market is a place to get something to eat later, or if you would rather not wait, then order up front in the cafe and eat here. Has lots of favorites. The service is okay usually. After making it up Clark to Andersonville, we came in. It wasn't that busy but there was a line. They're kind of more like a market. Dining area is kind of cramped. Even so, try to get a few containers of things. It's about $5 for an item. We got the Falafel Wrap. Loaded with tons of stuff on it. There was garlic, Jerusalem salad, onions, pickles, and tahini. Also looking around the market, we found big bags of candy. There's also treats like halva. Good place for looking around and sampling Middle Eastern. It has some hard to find groceries. I've passed by this place a few times and just had something random and large from the Brown elephant down the street (today it was an air popcorn popper) but wow I had no idea about the supermarket. I grew up in a neighborhood with a large Mediterranean and Middle Eastern, so when I walked back I found the spices intoxicating. Then they have some cheeses I love that I used to use daily but haven't seen honestly in a decade. Pretty cool. We headed to the front to place our order, a veggie combo and a Beef/lamb shawarma. They have a open kitchen and counter service. We took a table near the counter. It's great to see the plated dishes come out fresh and smell the aromatics in the air. Our food came out in a decent ten minutes. The meat was slice to a perfect thickness and cooked to give a nice gradation of doneness with nice caramelization. The hummus was tasty and fresh with herbs, I honestly didn't take note of the ingredients but dug in. Had a nice tanginess. Everything was delicious well portioned and reasonable priced. Service was great. Explained all the veggie options pulled out examples. I mean I definitely going back especially to the shop in the back. I mean they're really stocked well. I am a regular customer but tonight will be my last time coming. The wraps are HALF the size they were last year for the same price. I usually cannot finish my gyros wrap. Walked into this place initially on the corner where the grill side is - didn't get much of any acknowledgement from the 6-7 workers behind the counter here, and so then I decided to walk over to the grocery market side of things (this place is pretty long and has two separate spaces that are connected). The market had a lot of options and what not, but what caught my eye was the area with the pies. I'm not familiar with the name of these pies (they might be Turkish?), but we ordered several of them... one being an artichoke and cheese which was my favorite. They sweet man behind the counter asked if I wanted them heated up, which I did... and honestly it was the perfect lighter lunch that I needed as I walked around Andersonville towards Uptown during my lunch on a cold spring day. Coworker brought in some food from here and it was very good. I love that they list all their ingredients on the container stickers. Having food sensitivities makes me very appreciative when places actually list their ingredients. Might go here on my own since the food was quiet pleasant. The food at Middle East Bakery & Grocery isn't great and the disorganization in their kitchen operations led to waiting for almost two hours for a beef shawarma wrap. I had high hopes as I visited this eatery to quickly grab a shawarma wrap on a Wednesday night. No other customers were inside as I went straight to the register to order, which took minutes. Eventually more people came in and ordered. Little did I know, I (and everyone else) would be sitting at the tables for almost two hours waiting for our food. I checked in on the order multiple times and the the man attending the register was calm as he checked my order and said it was not ready yet. When I did get my order, the beef was cold and the flavor was gamey. Needless to say, I did not finish the wrap. Unfortunately, I will not be back. Across the street is a lovely Lebanese spot that I recommend called Taste of Lebanon --it has quick service and tasty food at great prices. Try Taste of Lebanon instead! read more

Very comfortable and well priced restaurant. Lots of options for middle eastern food, including big group/catering platters. A single sandwich or wrap will set you back ~$10, which is very reasonable in my opinion. The restaurant also made a very comfortable place to sit and chat.
