I am happy to report that this business has reopened. The sign now reads "Shawarma Kabob Falafel Hummus." Same management, same great food. They still sell bananas and local Middle Eastern cookies from Chicago bakeries for desesrt. The menu might have changed slightly, but fans of Pita X-Press will probably find their favorites. We ordered a vegetarian platter, which had baba ghanouj, hummus, two kinds of cucumber salad, four falafels, and a generous, freshly warmed pita. It was enough food for a light lunch for two. We enjoyed watching the cars pass under the Belvidere Oasis as we ate our food. So glad that this business is back. read more

Now this is a real OASIS ! While coming back from Janesville, we stopped by this oasis to get something from Panda Express. The moment we walked in, the plane of Panda Express went down the drain as the first food stall was Pita X-press. Full fledge Mediterranean menu with onsite fresh shawarma, pita wraps, falafel were just irresistible. I went for #4 gyro with rice and salad. My friend had chicken, gyro and rice. They were happy to offer a range of sauces and add extra meat for free. It tasted fresh and delicious. The best part was enjoying the food on the benches right on the top of I-90, the real oasis experience. Courteous staff. Great food. Cheap gas lol. It may sound like guilty pleasure to go to an oasis in wilderness to enjoy Mediterranean food, but I am definitely going there again. read more

Extremely solid Mediterranean. Thrilled to have a unique vendor like this running their business at the Belvidere Oasis. Chicken Schwarma plate was great. Food looked and tasted fresh. Schwarma had a nice unique hint of just a little crispiness on some of the charring - really nice quality. Great value too. I'm guessing it was the owner that was serving, and his son running the cash register. Both were very nice. Give the local business a try! read more

You have got to be freaking kidding me... Real food - real good food at an oasis on the Illinois tollway. Fresh scratch made on premises shawarma. It's good, it's solid. The plate comes with rice, cucumber salad and roasted vegetables. We also had a Mediterranean platter, which included falafel, hummus, two kinds of cucumber salad and baba ghanoush. Freaking good baba ghanoush at the oasis, on the tollway. We topped it off with some outstanding balaclava. Oh and there is more - this place has a fresh juice bar... Made right there in front of you. The service was also outstanding and accommodating. Skip the fast food joints, the national chains... Eat here. I'm actually excited about my next Belvedere Oasis stop on the Illinois tollway. read more

Our favorite stop on the way to Chicago from Wisconsin. We always get their chicken schwarma wrap. Very juicy chicken with tasty veggies and sauce. We have gone to many places in Chicago and this is the best schwarma for us. The owner is very nice too! read more

Excellent. Its not a Middle eastern establishment, but the Meditarranean food is as good as it gets. I had the chicken shawarma in a bowl of hummus which came with tahini and pita bread; the pita was grilled and warm as it should be (not micro-waved from a packet as in some establishments in the loop), and the hummus was just right too. One strange thing was that it was totally empty; I don't know if they mainly do delivery, but there was nobody else despite a nice enough seating area. Totally didn't expect to have a good lunch at a tollway oasis, but it turns out that the chicken schwarma wrap here is very yummy! Tender chicken wrapped in a warm pita really hit the spot today. Oh yeah! I was planning on trying some more Indian food since I'm new to this area and while walking down Devon passed this place and kept walking. On further thought I decided I really wanted to try this place so I did an abrupt 180 and went back to indulge in what I hoped would be at least good food. They exceeded my expectations. I took the easy choice and went with a shawarma beef combo plate and everything on it was very good. I really can't think of one thing to complain about. Upon entering I noticed the restaurant was nice and clean and I was immediately greeted with a smile and really felt welcome there. They get strong kudos for making such a good first impression on the customer service side of things. I even asked a question that some people might have considered a fairly dumb one and the young man who answered it did so with warmth and no hint that he thought it was wasting his time. Since this place is near where I now live I'm sure I'll be stopping in on a pretty regular basis. Stop in and check this place out. Not a bad stop for a quick meal. I would rate the food 4 out of 5 but the massive portion in $10.99 combination surely earns an extra star. Over all good option if your craving some meditaranian food especially if your in the neighborhood as all other options are limited to indian/Pakistani cuisine. read more

I give this resturant zero (0) stars, if I had a choice I would give negative. I went to this resturant yesterday and the guy, who was slower than a tortoise, took my order. I ordered lunch soeals, nothing big, he told me 1/2 hr, I was surprised, I mean its lunch specials, so why 1/2 hr. I asked him and he informed he is making fresh rice. I said ok fine. I waited for 45 minutes and went to get my order and he said his rice was still being cooked. I was extremely upset and I told him thats what he told me 45 mins ago. He said 10 more mins. After 10 mins later he told me the same thing, fresh rice is being cooked. It got my frustrated and I told him to give me my money back. He gave me my money back and told him, this was the worst customer service. He didn't care. If you are willing to spend a day or more just for food, then feel free to visit this place, otherwise please friends go else where! Worse customer service and they don't care. read more

Had the chicken shwarma wrap and falafel. The wrap was ok sauce tasted alittle off. The falafel was overcooked and hard. I frequent many Mediterranean restaurants and this is pretty average. The falafel being inedible lost them a whole star. read more

Service: I was placing my order and decided to go with the chicken shawarma. Then I order a pineapple juice since everyone seems to rave about how the juice are freshly squeezed. Embarrassingly enough, I had to ask the worker what he was saying because I couldn't understand him for the life of me. Next to him was someone who was a bit more proficient in English so you would've thought he'd jump in. However that wasn't the case and when I finally figured it out, he was saying the juicer is broken. Then I said okay how about a smoothie? At which point the worker starts rambling off in his native tongue and by the way he glared at me, I could only assume he was cursing at me. Finally it's time to pay and move on with my day and the cashier says the machine is down so we're only taking cash. I said "what the hell, I only have credit card" and he shoots back "dont cuss at me". I said "okay first off I didn't cuss at you, secondly I don't have any cash". He said "to me you were". So at that point I was done and as I was leaving, he said okay fine you can swipe your card. Really?!?! All of a sudden your square credit reader works? What a joke. The staff here are just absolutely horrible. Food: The flavor of the chicken was delicious but it was extremely dry. I had to keep sipping that smoothie otherwise it wouldn't have gone down. Conclusion: I'll just stick to Panda Express next time. At least I can trust a large chain will have properly train their staff on basic etiquette and quality control. read more

Incredibly rude people. Very few times I wished there was a zero-star option. I'm standing in line and they tell me they are closed. They will take the people in front of me and they are done. I pointed out that Yelp says 11 pm. A young guy with a beard at the cash register tells me that they are supposed to close at 8 (it's 7:40 pm) and that he doesn't care "whatever I pull" (not even sure what that means) and that if I want I can call the owner, and goes "How about that? Huh? How about that?" in a most threatening way. Considering the age, gender, and size difference, this is downright appalling and felt borderline dangerous. read more

Easily the best Middle eastern place in the north side , Their Lamb Shank is amazing and so is the Beef Shawarma sandwich. They also deliver through grub hub for an extra $5 though . Was here more than half a dozen times and most of it was good experience . I hope they keep on the good quality... read more

Delicious FRESH food among a sea of unhealthy choices! Ordered the fresh garden salad with chicken. The 'salad' consists of chopped cucumber, tomato, parsley and lemon dressed in Tziziki sauce topped with shaved chicken! Yum! We will stop here again! read more

I stopped to get gas at the Belvedere oasis on I-90 headed back home to Chicago area. Kids were hungry so we went in, browsed the oasis for best pick, decided here. OMG, this place needs to have a location off the expressway! I asked about the falafel, the gentleman offered one to try to us, then even went over the top and added sauce on top. Yum! I ordered pita with hummus, an order of falafel, and a side of shawarma. My daughter and I are both in agreement this place is awesome! Please consider a place a place off the tollway and closer to Naperville. This place is so much better than Naf Naf!! read more

I drive under the oasis on my commute every night, so I thought I'd give this a try. I got the salad with chicken, and a combo plate for my partner. I also got a small box of baklava. The ingredients were fresh, and the meal was very tasty! I wasn't expecting a lot for a toll road oasis eatery, but this was delicious, and at a really good price as well!
