Amanda and I were given a recommendation by a bartender from another bar. So we decided we wanted a good dinner with a great atmosphere and a dress up for our last night on vacation. When we arrived we were greeted by valet. We were on our way and didn't bring any cash with us so be aware to bring some cash with you to tip the valet. We did not make reservations as it was off-season and a Wednesday night. This was a mistake as we should've made reservations the concierge met us and told us it was a 30 minute wait. Not the most friendly at the front door. We asked if we could be seated at the bar and were told that the bar is completely separate from the restaurant for seating they have their own waitlist, so we stayed with the waitlist for the restaurant and attempted to go to the bar which was full and see if we could get on their waitlist. As the bar was completely full, I attempted to try to find a place to get to speak to a bartender. I found a location that was empty to at least speak to a bartender, she was rude and told me to go to the order here area of the bar and another bartender would take my name our first 5 to 10 minutes at the restaurant did not bode well for customer service. We did get on the waitlist for the bar, which was five couples deep. We sat in the waiting area for 10 to 15 minutes and we're called that our table was ready in the restaurant, I went to the bar to take my name off the list, and again was given a bit of an attitude, and no thank you or pleasantries. We were seated at a two person table just inside the restaurant, Amanda made the comment that it seemed we are at the kids table. This is where the restaurant shined. Our waitress was extremely nice and helpful. She was complementary and providing us with information about the restaurant and the specials we could not have asked for a better waitress or server Amanda ordered the seafood fuccilli and I ordered the crabcakes. For an appetizer I ordered the seafood chowder. The food was amazing. This was by far our best dinner on our vacation. The meal was a little pricey, although the food and atmosphere were pretty amazing. This would be a five star review if not, for the 30 minute experience that we encountered when we arrived. Would we come back is always the question that we ask and when I asked Amanda the same question, she explained that she would be back knowing of our experience when we arrived and know what to expect. My dining partner had the pork tenderloin, two slices, served with mashed potatoes, brussel sprouts with a balsamic demi glace, she enjoyed it. I opted for a bowl of their spicy seafood chowder - it is spicy, full of a variety of seafood, $4. I also ordered the mussels in a very delightful broth, $6. Middle Grounds Grill was everything I hoped it would be for some very fresh fish. We didn't get appetizers and they forgot the bread so we got right to it. I had the catch of the day which was a choice of 3 different fish that were literally caught that day. I chose the grouper and added a lobster tail. I also ordered a glass of white wine. We asked for the bread and it came with some nice oil and herb mixture which we really liked. My fish was very good, I asked for it grilled, I think it could have been cooked more but that was personal preference. The lobster tail was ok. I was expecting better but it did come with fancy butter with a candle under it to keep it warm. There was also rice and string beans, the rice was ok but I loved the stringbeans. Very fresh and not over cooked. My daughter had a fish that was crusted with nuts and not sure what else but I tasted it and it was delicious. My other daughter had the vegetable pasta because she doesn't eat meat or fish. She did not like it but it was the only reasonable thing on the menu that she could eat. Bummer for her. They should have a few vegetarian items for people to choose from. All in all it was a good experience. The inside of the restaurant was nice and clean. It was nice to catch one of our favorite dinner spots on a semi-slow night. Our adult kids joined us for a birthday and early anniversary dinner, and it could not have been a nicer evening. Really enjoyed Middle Grounds Grill's take on seafood. We tried the chefs special, Mahi Mahi Oscar with wild rice and a pecan crusted snapper with sweet potato mash. I hate being one to have a part in bringing their overall 4 stars but our experience was less than stellar. Of I was working again in the area and on our last night there we wanted a nice dinner. This area has a lot of "Seafood Shacks" which I love but Middle Grounds" is more in line with finer dining. So with no reservation we try walking in and get seated immediately. Our waitress Kirsten, I think, reportedly wears the crown of "Best Waitress Ever", and although there were issues with our meal, she still wears the crown in my opinion. So the problem. I ordered the scallops which were good. My wife orders the Filet, with medium temp. Comes well done. Without hesitation Kirsten takes it back for a new one. I already have my meal so unless I want it to go cold while waiting I have to start eating while waiting for my wife's new steak. Finally comes out but this time very rare. Unacceptable. It took so long I had no choice but to finish eating. The manager comes over to apologize but the damage is beyond repair. She just sends it back and they take it off the bill. They comped desert which I guess was the boy right thing to do. As for Kirsten, she was outwardly horrified by this chain of events. I guess these things happen but twice with the same meal is totally unacceptable. I probably won't be in that area soon but I'll have to pass if I am there. Sorry. Lovely restaurant very close to Treasure Island Municipal Beach. My partner and I decided to stop by to have some appetizers, before heading to a bar. A young, blonde hostess wasn't very pleasant when we arrived. If the ladies welcoming people into your establishment aren't very inviting or helpful, it really doesn't set a good tone for the rest of one's dining experience, I would like to thank Kevin for his service, it was really was wonderful. He was knowledgeable about local beer and the menu, and he made very helpful suggestions. I am glad we were able to sit at the bar to dine and drink. We enjoyed the food tremendously. It was extremely fresh, well seasoned and beautifully presented. I particularly enjoyed the fried calamari, which can sometimes be a hit or miss because of over-seasoning or being drenched in oil, but the calamari was delicious. Great seafood!! Great service! I got the Gulf catch, which was grouper. It was grilled and delicious. My husband got the filet with Oscar topping. Omg best thing we've ever ate! Kirsten was out server she was awesome!! We ordered two apps because we couldn't pick just one and she staggered everything so we didn't have a bunch of food at once. It was perfect. The crab cake was awesome and the blue crab stuffed portabella was much bigger than expected. Can't wait to visit again. I do believe sitting at the bar is my personal favorite. But it can be a little louder. And the restaurant is fairly small, with a closed footprint. I suggest getting a little specific with table requests when making reservations. Especially if you're booking out a couple of weeks in advance. The seafood is the star of the evening. This is a very busy restaurant, the wait was 60 months for a table so we opted for bar seating. The service in the bar was almost instant, so we felt that was a great. We ordered the herb crusted pork and we were not disappointed. It was unbelievably good! The live music on the bar area was a bonus. This night they had two guts with guitars singing songs from the 70's. Nice background, not too loud, so we could still carry on conversation. Came here on the Monday before Christmas. Figured there would be a good size crowd so we made a reservation. Two of the four of us arrived a bit early so as to have a seat at the bar and have a drink or two. We also ordered the fish spread at the bar as an appetizer. The presentation of the fish spread was amazing. Hopefully the photos do it justice. As for the flavor, it was out of this world amazing! Perhaps one of the best fish spreads I have ever had. Our other friends soon joined and we were seated at our table ahead of our reservation time. We began with a few more coctails and then some of their delicious warm bread and seasoned oil. Also started off with a Caesar salad which was really good. Their specials that evening sounded really great and I believe three of us ordered three different specials. I went with the grilled swordfish which was accompanied by asparagus and a rice medley. Really great flavor and cooked to perfection. Everyone was super pleased with their meals. One of my friends comes here often and for me this was a first. I will definitely return. Really great atmosphere. Parking wasn't a problem especially since we took two separate cars.
