    Large cheese pizza
    Jerry P.

I thought realized how fortunate I am when it comes to local pizza places, but I was wrong. I mean, I can walk to both Papa's Tomato Pies AND DeLorenzo's, so my opinion may be a bit skewed. I didn't think I was a pizza snob, but my goodness, I don't know what to say. The large cheese pizza was covered in industrial style shredded mozzarella-type product over the tell-tale perfectly uniform and unnaturally sweet straight from a giant can sauce. The crust seemed to be what a pan pizza from Chuck E. Cheese would resemble. This pizza made Sbarro's seem authentic. The wings were equally bad. Terribly fatty and seemingly straight from a freezer bag into the fryer, then tossed in plain old Frank's Red Hot Sauce. The food was honestly 1 star, but the girl on the phone and the delivery driver were both exceptionally nice. The driver even delivered straight to the room instead of waiting in the lobby and joked around with my son while I got my wallet. The food arrived ahead of schedule and was hot. These factors earned a second star. Again, if this is what passes as even acceptable pizza in New England then you can keep your misbegotten Super Bowls, it isn't even close to being worth the trade.

Pizza was good. The owner needs to turn on the heat in the building. Maybe he does this to encourage patrons to take orders out

Thanks Lacey! Nestled on the outskirts of the downtown area. Small town charm inside. Felt like a typical New England breakfast place (the layout.) We went with the potato pie and the buffalo blue (of course laced and well done) Let me tell you- THE CRISP and flavor they get on their crust is what bad bar pie's dream to be! (Even as leftover's the crisp is where it's at.) Now I wish I had tried a traditional pie but I guess that's why we visit places we like twice! They serve hearty pies. Thick, filling. The potato pie... I like what's happening here but I feel like it needs some garlic in those potatoes and need to be mashed more. Kind of chunky. And a little cream helps. The Buffalo blue- this had to the best buffalo pizza I have ever had. Hear me out: I am not a huge buffalo sauce fan. Sometimes it can be too much for me. This was the perfect marriage of cheese to buffalo sauce that it's not overwhelming. Pro tip- dunk it in a little of their blue cheese.

For decades my husband and his family were loyal patrons of Middleboro's, most popular pizza…read morerestaurant, Central Cafe. However, for the past 2 to 3 years, whenever we've visited my husband's hometown, Central Cafe has not lived up to those glorious memories of family dining. In the past year on at least five separate occasions, we have had one bad experience after another ordering from Central Cafe. We've experienced burnt pizzas, stale sub sandwich bread, Caesar salad with NO Caesar dressing available (???), and now the latest order with French fries that tasted as if they'd been sitting in the car for a week!! On top of the downhill trajectory of Central Cafe's food quality, in the past 5 years, their prices have skyrocketed, with some menu items, like their "Meat Lovers" pizza increasing more than 50% in price! On top of the price changes, for more than a year, with their new menu prices in full effect, Central Cafe refused to supply menus to customers that requested them. When my husband asked for a new menu, he was told that they only had the laminated ones available to those ordering from inside the restaurant. On this last occasion, my husband planned to take a picture of the menu when he went to pick up our order, but he was told that "so many people complained that [they] brought [the paper menus] back". As if the doubly-priced subpar food wasn't enough of an insult to its legacy, Central Cafe charges an additional $3.00 "takeout fee", a hidden fee added to all takeout orders that nobody mentions until you question why your total is so high. And if you order "plain chicken fingers", an employee will kindly ask "mild or hot?" in reference to the buffalo sauce (that you did not order) that they charge an extra 75¢ for. For a burnt meatball sub in stale bread comes with soggy fries, an order of chicken fingers, and 2 orders of soggy sweet potato fries, the total of our takeout order was $55 and some change. After calling to confirm the order was correct, that is when we were able to take the 75¢ sauce off of the order, and I decided that $9.00 was just too much for sweet potato fries, especially once we realized they were stale and l most ikely reheated in a microwave. Needless to say, today's visit to Central Cafe is our last. Our previous visit would have been our last, but because of our last visit's lousy food, we were given a gift certificate for the next. In the end, the food we received today wasn't worth the money we paid even with the $25 gift certificate reduction off the total. Longtime patrons of Central Cafe are aging and I would be surprised if they are gaining any new ones. It's time to make a change or they are doomed to fail.

Whenever I come home to visit, stopping by isn't just an option--it is an absolute requirement. Even though I'm usually only home for about four days at a time, I end up eating there at least twice every single trip. It might sound like a lot, but once you taste it, you completely understand. The combination of their incredible, perfectly seasoned sauce and high-quality cheese creates a flavor profile that no one else can match. Couple that with their fire oven, which churns out an impeccably crispy, perfectly charred crust every single time, and you get pure perfection. They've been consistently serving up unbelievable food since I was a kid, and decades later, they still haven't missed a beat. If you haven't been, you're missing out!

One ordered the Reuben which got great marks. One ordered the fried clams which also got great marks. My son ordered the lobster roll which was lobster salad, not big pieces of fresh lobster but probably from a can. He enjoyed it anyway. I got the surf and turf and the steak tips were overdone and tough. The four shrimp I believe were already breaded frozen not fresh. Our waitress Amanda was very efficient and friendly without buzzing over the table. We also had nachos and stuffed potato skins and the bill for four was only 260. Will be a little bit more careful with the menu exploring different dishes next time but we will be back. Thank you John and Amanda
