Poppyseed bagel, with scallion cream cheese, tomato, cucumber, and bacon.

My Mom grew up in the area, and this bagel joint has been delicious since then. We stopped by for bagels while in town for a reunion. We ordered a bunch of bagels with different toppings and they were all delicious. I've heard the donuts are worth the visit as well - with my friend often making a long journey just to grab some! I highly recommend grabbing a bagel sandwich, and taking a walk around town. Maybe even stopping in to the amazing co-op next door!

First time trying. Cute shop, great decor! Friendly staff, and being a bagel snob, the bagels were great! Soft on inside, with a great crust. Loved my plain with olive cream cheese. Only issue was checkout was a little confusing and jumbled. Wasn't sure if I had to wait for food, or where the line ended to pay.

I have loved this place for years and coming back after a decade and it's still just as amazing! This was the place that I had my first vanilla cream filled donut and I have been in love ever sense.... But I was super bummed they did not have them today. I will survive, I think. Fortunately their other offerings are yummy also! I enjoyed a bacon egg and cheddar bagel sandwich and my niece was extremely impressed by the cinnamon and sugar bagel with cream cheese! We hope to be back in the near future!

This place is amazing. If you're going through Middlebury don't miss it. I would consider this a must stop. Only heard of it through word of mouth and missed the signage walking to it. This place needs more online traction. I'm from NJ and have been wanting a decent bagel so bad since my time in Vermont. This absolutely delivered.

Tried and True Our favorite breakfast spot in VT! ++. Ambiance is a good balance of Local vibe, college students and city folks. Always busy and lines for order and cashier. Most people do take outs. They do have a small DR but has a high ceiling so it feels airy. ++. Food is bagels, donuts and breakfast. Their donuts and bagels are sold at many local general stores as well. Bagels and blueberry buckwheat pancakes are loved by my family. Their full order of pancake is two huge pancakes so order a 1/2 order if you are a normal human. They serve Green Mountain coffee too. ++. Price is reasonable +++. Service is friendly and super accommodating. On a visit this season, they ran out of blueberries so they stopped serving blueberry pancakes for the day by the time we got here. Since we didn't have any more days in Middlebury on this trip, we bought organic blueberries from the Co-op next door and Justin, the chef made us our blueberry buckwheat pancakes :-)). +. Parking is limited street and a shared lot with the Co-op. They close early and often run out of popular bagels and donuts, so go early!

The staff were nice and it's a really cozy place! The coffee is good and so is the bagel egger. The bagel was something I would come back for but when it comes to the pancake.... I have to say it wasn't the best though decent enough for a fulfilling breakfast to start a slow day! Beware the pancakes were very big (which is a relatively good thing) so I couldn't finish the pancake after eating half of the bagel. Maybe just try to pancake on its own with a cup of coffee. Cool place though and I definitely recommend it :)

    bagel with lox

When I was here I got donuts, bagel, and a chocolate chip cookie that is bigger than my face!! The sweet are alright but the bagel was absolutely fantastic! I only went into grab food and went out but the service I got was good.

Yummy! Warm sesame bagel with lox and tomatoes. :)

Charm: 6 stars. Comestibles: 3 stars…read more We took the "back way" home from VT this winter break, a strategy that avoided interstate traffic, but also occasionally situated us behind slow-moving tractors and trucks on one-lane country roads. Overall, we enjoyed the way's meandering charm, especially when we stumbled upon places like Sandy's Books and Bakery in Rochester, VT (which made me immediately think of you, Mercedes). Per the headline, Sandy's is a used bookstore with original, classic, 1960's and 70's era finds from Agatha Chrystie, Isaac Asimov, etc... newer books about foraging, mysticism, and other fun things; locally made candles, soaps, walking sticks, crocheted hats; and locally made food products in / adjoining the cafe. There are numerous rooms on two floors where you can take your time to slow down and enjoy a book. (Fiction, science fiction, horror and mystery are upstairs!) Cafe tables are set up in many of these semi-private reading rooms so you can enjoy a coffee or pastry alongside a good read. Places like this make me swoon and had we not been on the clock, I would've loved to browse for hours and hours. The setup certainly invites that, as do the friendly local patrons. Sadly, we had to peel our children away from smelling each and every homemade soap and candle, and from trying to fence with the beautiful, polished, natural wood walking sticks (pickaxes, our 8 year old called them), and get our food order to go so we could make our an appointment (for race ski sharpening ) in time. What we tried: - Broccoli and potato quiche, made with a gluten free tortilla crust -- delicious and homemade, with tender, custardy egg -- but undersalted by our standards and made with very little cheese. The eggs had an interesting and unexpected faint whiff of vanilla. - Roasted carrot and lentil soup -- soup made with small green lentils was conceptually great, but overly sweet and served with what could've been a wonderful bread roll, but one that was microwaved and inedibly rubbery as a result. We would've enjoyed diced carrots that had been cut smaller than these 2" slices, but that's a preference. - Apple cider donuts -- I'm sure these would've been amazing fresh out of the fryer, but sadly, these spheroids (not rings) of fried dough were dense, oily, and well past peak freshness (two or three days old?) on our Friday morning visit. - Morning glory muffin -- moist, not overly sweet, very good - Cafe au lait -- you're told to fill a mug with pre-made coffee from the dispenser and to come to the counter for the steamed / frothed milk, which was unexpected for me. The coffee on our visit was watery. Baked goods (including cookies of all sorts), looked so lavish and amazing that I'd come again to try other items, but really, it's the overall experience that charms. Food and drink may not be the winning components, but perhaps I don't mind when a bookstore is so darn welcoming and charming. Bookmarking for a return visit.

As soon as I walked in I could tell I had stumbled upon a great spot! The ambiance is very quirky cute, and the space is well kept and well organized. The line was long but moving quickly- staff seem great at keeping orders moving while still being friendly and not making folks feel rushed. Prices were reasonable enough to make me do a double take. I'd expect to be paying more for food of this quality, but I'm certainly not complaining! I also bought more because everything was well priced and delicious. The first time I stopped in, I got the non typical turkey (not pictured here but equally photogenic and mouth watering) and bought some of the bagels to take home. The sandwich was outrageously yummy, and my kids devoured the bag of bagels in two days. Welp, that sandwich was living rent free in my head for the whole next month... so you know the next time I was driving by, I had to swing through with my two boys. This time I got the islander on a honey sriracha cheddar bagel that was out of this world. I've yet to try any of the sweet bakery treats but I'm eyeing those next. This is definitely the best food spot I've found for my 4.5 hour trek between NH & NY. Sandwiches pair perfectly with a coffee, a podcast, open windows and some nice sunny weather. I'll be back soon!

Homies behind the country run a smooth operation. No matter if you get a bag of bagels and in-house made cream cheese to go, or you get one of their steak and egg sandwiches all dressed up... you will be blessed. The overpriced artwork for sale on the wall is too niche for me if your into that they have it. Wooden atmosphere, friendly staff, and the tasty smell from the kitchen earn this place a 4/5. Much love, stay clean.
