The store is located in the historic Madison Train Depot, which sits at the corner of Washington Ave...and you guessed it, the train tracks! Space is gorgeous and has a lot of the original and historic charm left. The main space is a large sprawling open room with floor to ceiling windows flanked by multiple rows of bicycles. There is a smaller space through a step down that features more bikes lining the walls. In addition to the actual bicycles, they offer a wide variety of accessories, tools, kits, tires, tubes, etc...and even a few other outdoor sports for those who go beyond bikes. Service was super friendly. While we were not after a bicycle that day, the staff was very welcoming, helpful and enjoyed chatting up about bicycles...as we had questions! Overall, solid spot in a beautiful location! My pal, which lives in Madison, has since purchased a bicycle from here, so our trip in was well worth it!

Jeff and the mechanic working that day took care of my kiddo's tire blow-out and provided solid advice on keeping it together so that he could race again the next day at a cyclocross series. They have a great selection of gear that I pursued while we were there and Jeff pointed me in the direction of a quality tire gauge to help get a more precise tire pressure. Super grateful! I don' leave many Yelp reviews and I hesitate at leaving bad ones. Especially because I found the…read moreguys at Revolution to be friendly and believe each truly wants to provide good service. The problem is there is no coordination between them which I have come to believe is due to poor management. In July I sent my Trico bike case to the shop and later, Chris confirmed by phone it was there. But when I ended 10 days of Wisconsin bikepacking there, I was unsettled for a few minutes as they couldn't locate my case. I could tell they started doubting they ever had it. Fortunately I could quote Chris's name and he happened to be present. He found the case. So no biggie. But a potential red flag? Let's move on. I left my bike to be packed up and sent home in the Trico case...along with a new spare tire, lent to me by a friend for the trip. The last thing I remember is the tire on my handle bars in front of the check-out desk and being reassured there was no need to tie it to the bike. When I received the bike, it arrived in a CARDBOARD BOX, not my Trico case. And...the tire was missing. And...a part of the front axle was missing. (which I didn't realize until after riding a week or so when my mechanic freaked out bc the fork was compressed a little) I want to be clear, there was no shipping damage to the bike; cardboard boxes are fine, but i spent $300 on a hard case and I wanted it back. I also wanted my friend's new tire back. I called Jeff, the manager, immediately after unpacking my bike. Within 24 hours, he was able to find the missing Trico case but not the tire. I could tell he doubted I had left the tire, but I sent him a picture of the tire on the bike. He offered me a used tire as replacement which I refused bc we're talking my friend's tire here. Jeff refused to send me an equal replacement. I received my case (empty), but I'm out $65 for a replacement tire I bought for my friend. Bringing up the missing axle piece would have been futile a week into this mess, so it didnt come up. MORAL: If your equipment is being handled by more than one person at Revolution Cycles, monitor that equipment. Get names. Take pictures. Ask for receipts. Keep watch. Or you may find yourself writing way too long reviews.

Throughout the experience, the staff where informative and helpful. They steered me to just the bike I needed (and incidentally, not the most expensive one of its type). They took time to help me get the perfect fit (one size up from what I expected ending up perfect for me), and even provided extra advice about how to maximize the use of gear combinations (with this bike having more gears than my old ones). After helping me choose the right accessories, despite my saying there wasn't a rush, they got everything installed on the same afternoon before closing, and I was able to enjoy the bike right away. I am 5'2" in height and was able to find two great hybrids and a road bike to try riding for my summer stay in Madison. I *immediately* fell in love with the one I eventually bought, in my very first ride on it. It's a Georgina Terry bike, and it's so thoughtfully made; my hands aren't flat when biking, but incline down, and that makes a huge difference to the comfort level. The bike's tires are also different sizes (!), which also allows for a smaller frame for shorter people like myself. But really, besides the great selection, what I loved about the store is the exceptional staff. Riley was immensely patient with me, pulling the seat up and pushing it down *multiple times* as I needed it, so I could try it; and she did this with me for three hours (not even exaggerating) before I (finally) made my decision; I cannot believe she had the patience to put up with my nitpicking for that long! She also helped me find a solid (and cute) helmet. Nick tuned up the bike really well for me and was very thoughtful in suggesting that I buy a U-lock (and not a cable lock) and get it fixed in the frame - and he did that for me! Thank you, Riley and Nick. I LOVED biking back home from the store, and that bike ride totally changed my opinion of the city itself, now that I could move about without feeling grumpy, like I was in the buses here. Overall, I loved the people working here and the vibe they have. If you are in Madison and looking to get a bike, this is the place you should go to.
