We had our company party at Back Creek last night and it was great!!! 5 stars for sure . Jen is the event coordinator and so great to work with ! The best!!Did beautiful job decorating and the food was so delicious ! Our workplace is in Dover and we usually do country clubs there or Dover Downs - but this topped them for sure ! Everyone loved the food - especially crab cakes . Craig and Kevin did great job as usual bartending and started us off with mini espresso martinis upon arrival . Dj Bug was also the best . 2 stars bc our server was excellent. Thin guy, long salt and pepper hair, was covering the bar, tables, patio and answering the phone. Somehow, he managed to stay attentive. We ordered the crab dip. It wasn't what I expected, but despite other reviews, it was loaded with crab. I'd give it a 2/5. We didn't eat half of it. I ordered a burger, and it came out burnt. Like, inedible, and the bacon was limp. Although there was a good amount of it. Nevertheless, I sent it all back. Fries were not freshly cut, likely frozen, and barely salted. Hubs ordered the steak and said that it was flavorless. He said it tasted like it was boiled, no salt, no pepper, nothing. I tasted his sweet potato mash and that tasted like baby food. Anyway, the manager comes out and apologizes for my meal and offers to comp me something. I say no thank you, but he insists. So, I asked for a dessert. Now, both him and the server come back to the table to let us know that the dessert order is in. We wait about 15-20 minutes. The server brings by the bill and my husband pays. Not a minute after the card is swiped, the manager comes over to say that he was just told that there is no more dessert. Interesting. read more

We have been Dining Club members for over a year and really enjoyed our meals and staff. During the spring things started to change. I spoke to the manager and dropped our membership. The manager seemed more defensive than taking the time to listen. We thought, after 4 months to give them a try. Well it was even worse. We discovered it was Trivia Night. In a restaurant we are playing games? In the main dining area no one was playing yet they were blasting music and asking questions through mounted speakers like we were in a huge auditorium . It was horrible. We were not alone . Everyone was complaining. The meals were delicious but my primary choice was unfortunately not available Well we tried. Never again will we go back unless we hear that they have changed their ways. We will miss the great bartenders and staff but the management has to decide if they are operating a restaurant or a game/ music hall. We were hoping to report a positive account for Back Creek but to spend the amount you would for a meal with a horrible loud atmosphere is very disappointing. read more

Update: Since I wasn't feeling well on Tuesday, my partner brought home a crab cake for me to enjoy. This morning I dug into it and the first thing I bit into was a giant piece of hard plastic (not shell)! I proceeded to try and eat parts of the crab cake but every bite involved some form of shell. I wouldn't pay a cent for such a poorly made crab cake. Totally not enjoyable! I am so very disappointed in my family's recent visit here. I made reservations via Open Table and informed them that my in-laws are celebrating their 35th anniversary! I sadly got sick today so I couldn't join them. But the story of their celebratory meal made my heart drop. Service was lacking from the start. My mother-in-law said it went from "we're barely there" to "we're invisible" when a large group appeared. Appetizers came out and were a flop. Barely any crab in the crab dip and more peppers and onions in the calamari than calamari. Also my mother-in-law was delivered a "on the cold side of warm" seafood soup. The kicker of the whole night was when the server appeared with my father-in-law's rib eye. The server admitted that it sat under a heat lamp for 20 minutes. Obviously the piece of meat was overcooked and my super sweet in-laws sat in silence trying to get through their meal. The ribs were overly sauced and my mother-in-law was picking out shells whilst trying to eat her crab cake. The chef did kindly come by to wish them a happy anniversary but at that point there was nothing more to celebrate at Back Creek Grill. They told me "never again". So I'm sick at home hearing this and now I'm trying to find a way to make it up to them after my partner spent over $100 on an abysmal meal. read more

Back Creek review: In my opinion the shrimp cocktail could have had a bit less horseradish sauce in it. We got a glass of red wine and the serving size was generous. I got the crab cake sandwich. In my opinion, the crab cake was bland. It needed some old bay seasoning or something. The lettuce and tomato was pale, but it's winter so maybe that's to be expected. I like that it came with skinny fries, rather than the steak fries that they used to serve. My husband got the sirloin steak. He said it was good, but he's got a bit appetite and he wished the steak had been a bit larger of a portion. Service was good. We had a reservation and we got seated immediately. read more

Well, don't think we will be back. Sat down as a family of 6 at a very nice table in the corner. Rather high noise level, but nothing that would send us away. Server seemed attentive, and brought waters for all and took our app order and meals for the kids to be brought out as soon as possible. As we sat, we noticed numerous bug lights. I assumed for just flies in the summer. Apps came out and we ordered entrees. Took a few minutes longer than expected, but no worries. No kids meals yet. About 15 minutes later, we had to ask about the kids meals. 5 minutes after that, we noticed a cockroach crawling across the wall. Called over a server who was obviously afraid of bugs, not her fault, and she went to get someone else. By the time they got there, bug had crawled into another hole. Now over a half hour after ordering kids meals, still nothing, but a new cockroach emerges from the wall. I'm sure it was new, because it came from a different hole. Called the second server over again who smushed the bug, leaving a bit of goo on the wall. Kids meals come out with rest of entrees. Goo still on wall. Ask to see if someone can wipe it up as a third bug appears. No one really has an appetite any more. We asked for the check with only a bit of the kids meals eaten. A manager did come over and apologize for the bugs, and said they "never have that issue". Doubtful. read more

This place is extremely frustrating. The facility is nice, the outside seating is nice, and the food is great. The problem? The service averages from mediocre to outright awful. There's literally staff everywhere all the time, but drinks aren't filled until your cup is empty and even then.....dry. The best asset of this place is Chef Miguel, he turns out some great food. The least they could do is give him the service his food deserves. I look forward to eating the food, loathe the service. Every. We have been going to Back Creek for years. Tonight was the worst experience ever. The food is very limited due to a new chef. I did enjoy the scallops but my husband's quesadilla was very poor. They don't do ribs anymore, so we were going to bring chicken tenders back for our son instead -- but they ran out of chicken tenders. My husband ordered a second drink that never came. Service was poor but our server was apologetic . We used to try to come here every 4 to 6 weeks but it was so bad we won't be back anytime soon. read more

This place is yummy. The cab cake was really good and the salads are great and 1/2 salad is even huge! Soup was ok. It had a lot of flavor put was puréed. Good menu, especially for fish. I had a grilled yellowtail salad that was excellent. There were many good choices, from pub fare to more elegant. The only issue is the noise; the tables are strewn in among the bar, where golfers gather to celebrate or lament their latest foray on the links. So it's loud. If you can eat outside on the patio, you'll enjoy it more. It was almost too loud to talk at our table because of the groups of drinkers. But the food was just fine and it's a pretty place. read more

We've never had any issues at all with the service, though I will admit that we sit at the bar 90% of the time and Jenny is wonderful. When we do sit at a table, service is friendly and not slow. I can't speak to the other reviews but I haven't experienced bad service here! Drinks are strong and delicious, and Chef Miguel is incredible! We love the rotating weekly specials and monthly drink offers. The burrito was the best we've ever had. We went on "fajitas and ritas" night during the winter and shared a $10 pitcher of margarita... let's just say it's a good thing we live close because we could barely walk out of there! Our experience at the Backcreek was far from good. The restaurant was very dirty, walls showed splatters and needed to be repainted. our table was near the fireplace, and soon after being seated 2 couples with 6 small children took the noise level of an adventure to Chucky Cheese. Our server was quite pleasant however slower than a snail and times over whelmed, when the entres arrived he needed to ask another server what was what. We arrived at 5 pm and finished at 8 pm ( 3 hours of hell with the screaming children next to us yelling and running around.) The food although sounding fantastic, could have been, if it come out of the kitchen hot. A lobster coconut appetizer as well as pot stickers were very much over cooked and very touch to chew. Then the highlighted deserts described an Italian orange cream filled donut, these solid little nuggets tasted like fish, obvious the chef used the same deep fryer from the lobster a to fry the donuts. Went here with a party of 8. We had reservations thankfully because it was busy! When I made the reservations I told them we had 3 people in party that were vegan and asked if chef could accommodate and I was told yes. Also, when I arrived I asked again and they told me no problem. Waitress did not speak English very well. I believe she was doing the best she could but it was not good. They were out of all the beers that we wanted. On a Friday night I would think you would be well stocked. She didn't know which ones were available so she had to keep checking. She never offered to take an appetizer order. She did not understand about our vegan request and had to check with chef. Our dishes came out with cheese on them so whatever. Getting refills on drinks was impossible. Then suddenly a bunch of people must have left because it finally got quiet. Then the waitress tells us it's too bad we are not ordering now because now the chef has time to make us really good food. Great. We came home and ate because we were totally hungry. Our friends got these massive portions and we got a few noodles drenched in olive oil with a bit of spinach and a bit of tomato and cheese. I bet the noodles had eggs in them too. And then when she was collecting our checks she scoured the table looking for the third pen. She was lifting up our napkins, etc. It's a pen! Move on! Not sure what is going on at Back Creek. The last few times we have been there the food was subpar (e.g. nachos with shredded cheese not the least bit melted, cold fries, burnt grilled cheese, etc.) and the service was very slow. Even had golf carts stored on the patio next to the seating area. Not really what i want to look at while i am eating. Used to be our favorite restaurant in M-town by far. We love this place. We love their food but tonight they had a championship golf thing and there were at least six people smoking cigars outside and it was miserable! I couldn't breathe and I could not enjoy my food. It was loud and so awful. I wish someone had warned me when we made the reservation. read more

Love the grill. Drinks are great. We've liked almost everything we haven ordered here. My daughter loves their Caesar salad. Their chicken nachos are awesome and my boyfriend loves their Reuben. TERRIBLE restuarant!!! Went here for the first time after doing some online research. We made reservations on a Saturday night and when we arrived we were seated directly in front of the live music. We knew instantly this table would be too loud for us to sit and talk, so we asked to be moved. While one server insisted "it won't be loud," another insisted "its REALLY loud." Already I got a bad feeling. After moving us to another table, our service went downhill. A big sign declared behind us "new menu coming soon!" so I knew we really were doomed. Our server was very rude - I don't know if she was put off we had asked to be moved or not, but we received very poor service for the next hour and half. When the food arrived I was very underwhelmed. It was the worst I've had in Middletown so far. The calamari was over-fried and tasted like oil. Four half shell tiny oysters smothered in bbq sauce looked very unappetizing, and the crab dip was a block of cream cheese nuked in the microwave with no crab to be seen. Onto the entrees: a very raw steak, $17 spaghetti and meatballs (not homemade), dry flavorless ribs, and a few fried shrimp. I've had better food at my grandparents retirement home! Avoid. read more

Great menu -- varied to accomodate many tastes. Food was very good. The setting is lovely, overlooking the golf course. Our drinks were poorly made and way overpriced. Cosmo was $10.75 and consisted of a shot of vodka and the pre-mix stuff from a bottle!! Our table of four was seated next to the bar and when the golfers came in from their round (unfortunately around the time we were served our entrees), we couldn't hear one another due to the loud (I mean loud) conversations taking place. We had a horrible experience. Had a trainee waitress, and a lead waitress who came by once but never placed our dinner order until 50 minutes after we were seated. (We ultimately learned this from the manager) Drinks (beers) took over 20 minutes to arrive. Aside from the bad service it was one of the loudest restaurants we have been in. When I asked the server the status of the order she responded she thought they had just come out of the kitchen. 10 minutes later the diner next to me, who ordered a burger 30 minutes after I placed my order, gets her food. I asked the server how that was possible? 10 minutes later out comes my order, fish tacos with beans and rice, only minus the beans and rice. Apparently a side of tortilla chips is an equivalent! Just attended a social event here, and it was fantastic. There were 60 of us, and service was friendly and efficient. We requested a variety of menu items for our buffet, from bruschetta to pulled pork sliders, and each item was delicious. Kudos to the chef. I have been to this restaurant many times and have been disappointed more than I have been satisfied. The restaurant itself is nice on the inside, the service is just horrible. It takes forever to get our food sometimes. Most times when we go it's not too busy so that shouldn't be an excuse. The only reason we still go is because a family member has the half off restaurant food membership. They like to go on prime rib night, I haven't ordered it but have been told it is delicious. They only time I enjoy my meal is when I order the salmon, it is very good. The French onion soup and salads are all very good as well. Every time I have tried something different it is just not good. My husband and I tried out their taco night once. NEVER AGAIN. Not only was the service horrendous but the tacos were the worst excuse for tacos I have ever seen. The chips and salsa were supposed to be complimentary but halfway through the meal we had to ask the waiter whether or not we were getting any. He wasn't going to give us any. As for the tacos, this was mainly my fault for not reading the menu correctly but I ordered what I thought was a basic pulled pork taco. What I was served was a tiny soft taco filled with pork rinds and lettuce. What? They were of course hard as hell, not exactly sure how anyone is supposed to eat a soft taco filled with hard pork rinds. The fish taco was okay but you only got two and they were so small! Been to Backcreek about six times.Always a great meal. Very generous portions . My server was Tabetha and she was great! Food was fresh and definitely home made including the cole slaw. The fish was soft and tender and the Chef said it comes from a local supplier.The crab cake was one of the best I ever had and apparently has won a few cooking competitions.The menu also has a number of specials that change daily. I was there on Friday night and they had nice live acoustic guitar music. Not too loud but just right. Was voted best new restaurant New Castle County by local press! We went here for dinner one night since we live right around the corner. The blonde teenager-ish hostess rolled her eyes when she had to stop texting to seat us. It took no less than 15 minutes for someone to come to our table to get us drinks. Since we had plenty of time to sit around and chat, I noticed that this restaurant has THE most disgustingly dirty carpet I have ever seen. It wouldn't be nearly as horrifying if you couldn't see around the edges what color it was actually supposed to be. There were a ton of flies in the restaurant which made eating our meals very unappealing having to swat bugs away from it. I couldn't blame them for trying, the food was actually delicious. I had the salmon and I can't remember what my husband got, but he said it was very good. It took over 30 minutes for it to come out though, and it was a Thursday night, so it really wasn't busy in there. As good as the food was, we won't be back because the rest of our experience was pretty crappy overall. Plus around 8pm all of the retired men get off the golf course and start getting loud and hanging all over each other like a bunch of teenage lovers. I had a HORRIBLE experience dining in. I am a frequent customer and dining club member. When I went in last week not only was I given a hard time about using my membership, but I was questioned on who lives in my household. I have never had an issue before this and was not informed of any new rules and regulations on their dining club membership. Nothing is listed on the website and I have not received any updating emails. Not only was I given a hard time about the membership it took an hour to get our food. The manager was completely unprofessional, and did not apologize for the extremely poor service. Besides all of that our waitress poured the bottom of one beer into a new beer that was just brought out. By the end of our meal, 2.5 hours after we arrived, our check was completely wrong and I had to stay an extra 30 minutes. I am extremely disappointed with the service that has recently taken over and will be hesitant to go back. read more
