Unfortunately, the service was pretty disorganized. Throughout dinner, food meant for the table next to us was brought to our table multiple times. At one point, the table next to us was accidentally given two edamame appetizers. When they pointed out the mistake, they gave the extra one to our table, which we thought was a nice gesture considering all of the mix-ups. Then our bill came and we had been charged for the edamame we never ordered and were specifically given because of their mistake. We had to point it out and ask for the charge to be removed. Mistakes happen, especially during a busy event like Restaurant Week, and I completely understand that. But charging a table for an item they didn't order after your staff specifically gave it to them because of an ordering mistake was pretty frustrating. Overall, the experience just felt much more disorganized than it should have been and took away from the tasty sushi.

I had never heard of the place before, but I thought the whole concept was SO cool. The omakase itself is incredibly intimate with only a handful of seats, which makes the entire experience feel really personal. Chef and his small team are all so warm and welcoming, and one of my favorite parts was that they actually encourage everyone to get to know each other throughout the meal. It ended up feeling like one big group dinner rather than everyone quietly eating their own meal. My friend and I were even watching the Super Bowl with everyone during our seating, which made the night even more fun! The fish was, of course, phenomenal. Every piece was prepared with so much care and precision, and you could really tell how passionate Chef is about his craft. I'd say the menu falls somewhere in the middle between a super traditional Edomae omakase and a more modern, creative one, which I personally loved. Everything felt incredibly thoughtful without being overly experimental. I also have to give a shoutout to their cocktail program because every drink we had was AMAZING! I don't even think there's a traditional drink menu. Instead, their bartender just asked each of us what kinds of flavors we usually like and created custom cocktails based on our preferences. Every single drink she made for my friends and me was SO good and paired perfectly with the meal. One thing to keep in mind is that each seating is pretty long--we were there for close to three hours! It definitely felt like an experience rather than just dinner, but honestly, the time flew by because everyone was chatting, eating, and having such a great time. It is definitely on the expensive side, but for the quality of the fish, the hospitality, and the overall experience, I thought it was absolutely worth it. One of my favorite little details was that the room is filled with Chef's personal belongings, books, and little collectibles, which makes the space feel so cozy and lived in. He genuinely welcomes guests to ask him about anything in the room, and you can tell he's just such a well-rounded and passionate person. More than anything, this was just such a FUN omakase experience!! If you're looking for something that's intimate, interactive, and a little different from your typical omakase, I can't recommend Toshokan enough!

The food itself was delicious, beautifully crafted, and felt customized in a way that made the night feel unique to us. It's the kind of omakase that doesn't take itself too seriously while still delivering seriously good dishes. I also highly recommend the sake and cocktail pairing. The bartender customizes it based on your preferences. I told her my favorite drink is an espresso martini and she made this really fun espresso, strawberry latte concoction. There is also a special house sake with an homage to the owner's cat. I love those personal details. It's always a great time at Toshokan, and I'll definitely be back again. All of the food proved satisfying. The spicy tuna gyoza (with guacamole and Thai chili sauce) might have been better as a cold dish, but we had no regrets trying it warm. Finding a favorite among the sushi rolls was a challenge as all three brought something different: fresh flavors from the Warehouse, a satisfying crunch and a bit of sweetness from the Hawaii, and some smoky and spicy notes from the Tiger Eye. The rolls are normally in the upper teens though thankfully, happy hour pricing shaved a few dollars off that cost. With so many other dining options nearby, Maiko is easy to overlook. I'm glad that we didn't, however, as it made for an excellent meal.

I have no idea what the people rating this place above 2 stars are thinking. This place is TERRIBAD. It looks like a typical sushi place when you walk in and has cool private booths you can sit at, but everything else about this place is a joke. We ordered 2 plates of sashimi and a couple rolls. When we ordered, we asked the waitress if she got that we wanted 2xSashimi plates + 2 rolls, and she assured us she understood our order. I also ordered a beer and my girlfriend ordered a glass of white wine. The food came out and sure enough, only 1 plate of sashimi. We had just driven in from Houston and really just wanted to eat some good food, so didn't even care that we would have to wait for it, we just wanted to get some more food on the table. We asked our waitress if there was another plate coming out and she whipped out her order notebook in a panicked manner and pointed at our order stating "you no order!! you no order!! yo only order THIS!" I should have tried to food before ordering more, because if I had know how bad it was I wouldn't have bothered. Besides being cut way too thick, the sashimi was FROZEN inside! Not completely frozen, but there were definitely ice crystals inside my food. Fail. We ordered a couple rolls as well and both were soggy with no texture and covered in eel sauce that tasted like it was about to go bad. I guess we scared the waitress off when we ordered more food (????) because we never saw her again. The next time I saw someone was when I flagged another passing waiter down for the check. No refills on water, no refills on my beer or my girlfriend's wine. Frozen sushi. Soggy rolls. No one ever checked on us at all. Terrible service. read more

My first experience at Midori was on my 2nd date with my now husband almost 4 years ago! For the next year we ate at Midori every weekend until, sadly we had to move away from Austin. Now we live in Dallas and we come back to Austin at least once a year specifically for Midori Sushi! We cannot get enough! Every time we are there we BEG them to open up a 2nd restaurant (or just move this one) to Dallas! Even though it's in a strip mall with an abandoned Albertson's, once inside you are transported to the wonderful world of delicious sushi and wonderful atmosphere. You will forget that it's located in a strip mall once inside. The Midori Boca Raton roll and the Texas Roll are literally the #1 and #2 things I have EVER eaten. This is not only the best sushi in Austin, but it would have to be some of the best sushi in Texas if not America. We have tried for the past 2.5 years to find a place that is as good in Dallas, but we cannot do it. Midori has no competition, I have not eaten anything (sushi or anything else) that comes close to the deliciousness of this place. Everyone is so friendly, and I love the intimacy that is created inside. I LOVE THIS PLACE. It is worth the drive no matter where you are. And, if you think you don't like sushi, go to Midori and order the Midori Boca Raton, Texas Roll, Ryan Roll, and Caterpillar Roll. You will be a sushi convert! read more

Usually.....Awesome sushi at a good price! However, today was the worst experience I have ever had at a sushi restaurant. My boyfriend ordered a sushi burrito. His came out, and I am not exaggerating, 15 minutes before mine. I ordered a roll I have ordered over 10 times from here. It contains cucumber. Whatever was in this, was not cucumber and if it was is had gone bad (it was yellow). After eating a single piece of sushi, I expressed my concern to the waiter and she said "I think it's shrimp tempura" (wth?! That is not even an ingredient in this roll and looked nothing like it). Then she took my plate to go "ask the chef. She brought back the plate and said "yeah it's cucumber". I told her that it tasted bad and she proceeded to go get a plate of fresh sliced cucumber and said "this is what we use for the rolls". (Keep in mind the crap in my sushi was yellow and this new cucumber looked normal) I showed her side by side the cucumber vs the other crap and she did nothing but walk away. There was no way I was going to eat the rest of the roll when the first piece tasted that bad. I literally ate one piece of sushi. Waste of $15. Be careful is you get anything with "cucumber" in it. read more

I am having a wonderful lunch at this cute little restaurant three minutes from my house. I am trading my seven-year-old granddaughter to a Wonderful and amazing $14 Bento Box lunch. What A bargain. Grocery store sushi cost almost the same price and certainly Doesn't he have the variety of this wonderful feast. I try to eat here at least once a week and usually it's what I do times a week. It is my pleasure is my treat to myself. It is the A Bento box call has five compartments each with a different treat. It's really pretty cool to look at. So mine includes gone: of tempura dhrimp, sushi, salmon roll, California rolls, PLUS, they also serve you miso soup and a Wonderful vinegar/Sweet salad. Are usually have to carry a take-home box. In summer It is in a perfect location, at 183 and Anderson Mill Road - - right next to the big golds gym. Tons of parking. In summary this is one of my favorite restaurants on. Some people might criticize me for getting "stuck "ordering only this particular tempura Bento box when there are hundreds of other items and options, but I am a creature of delicious habits. Updated Review I'm a reasonable person so I'm going to update this review. Chris did eventually refund my money and asked me to update my review. The bottom line is that the reviews on the place are bought and therefore skewed. This is not high quality sushi. If you're looking for that this would not be my recommendation. I can not in good conscious recommend this place to anyone. If you're looking for sub par sushi that's slightly over priced then go here. I just can't get behind misrepresentation. I know owning a restaurant is not easy, but if you're not passionate about it then do something else...... Midori if you want to win at the sushi game done try to out smart your customer. Provide them quality food at a fair price. Initial Review: They give 10% off for people to review them. Uni, EBI, octopus all bad. They buy their reviews and it's not an accurate depiction of their product. If you read beyond the fake reviews you'll see more reviews inline with what I'm saying! The first time a friend invited me to go out for sushi I was a little bit wary. We went to Midori Shushi and I've become a regular. There is a common misconception that all sushi is raw. This is not the case. Many of the items are cooked. One day I got adventurous and tried one of their specials of the day, live scallops, well almost live. They sliced 'em up just before they serve them. Mmmm good. What is really cool is when you sit at the sushi bar. They recognize you and even give you some special samples. Last Christmas my wife and I got some fancy chop sticks as a gift. We keep leaving them at home in our china cabinet. I think we need to move them to the glove box now. If someone in your party does not want to be so adventurous they can still get some regular Chinese food. I've tried many sushi bars around town, in Hawaii and on a cruise ship. This is a gem. The waiters are fully bilingual natural English. The place is decorated really nicely. I appreciate the easy list menu w full descriptions of each roll and price. The main menu is a paper place matt so you have time to look over it. Their covid regulations definitely are in place. The music is young and hip. To go order of a dragon roll served w an orchid. My girlfriend and I like to go here a lot. She always gets the teriyaki chicken and it is cooked to perfection. I mostly stick to the cooked sushi as I am not a big fan of sashimi (raw sushi). The server always makes sure that I get what I want whether I do not like cucumbers or avocado. The chefs and everyone always greet us when we come in and it makes for a very warm environment. Price-wise, it is a sushi restaurant so of course it is a little pricey but I would say you get what you pay for here. read more

Definitely a hole-in-the-wall restaurant, I can't believe I've never noticed this place! I ordered the sushi combo and it was very fresh and tasty even though it was only an hour before close! Tempura appetizer plate was flavorful and perfectly fried, and the yakisoba platter was amazing as well. Even though our waitress forgot some things like chopsticks & soy sauce (both kinda crucial to the sushi eating experience), she was extremely friendly and otherwise attentive. Fantastic way to start the week! The ambience is inviting with beautiful 3D artwork decorating the walls. The semi-enclosed seating is comfy and intimate. Our server, Brian, introduced himself and was very welcoming. Servers just don't do that anymore! He helped us decide what sashimi to order and was quick to serve our misos. So I am originally from the Bay area of San Fran. I have been many places outside of California and am always skeptical about it. TX? Having this good of sushi...Yes!! This is the place. Been here for a very short time and this blew my mind. Service is pretty good, but the food is really really good. plus they give you complimentary soup which most sushi restaurants never do. Just a small place in strip center, but excellent food and service. When each person walks in, every person working verbally welcomes them. When anyone leaves, everyone thanks k them for coming. Sushi is BIG servings of fish and very fresh. I had Superman Burrito (actuallgy orders 2 other rolls too and waiter said, "Too much food." Ha. I'm glad! That things was awesome and huge. The rolls are very nice here. Just a salmon or tuna roll is always a pleasure. I am eating here for dinner for the first time. Usually I am here for the lunch deals. Dinner prices are around 15 to 20 dollars a plate. Be ready for that. This time I tried pork bugolgi. There is a generous amount of meat. You will get your money's worth if you want a simple meal of meat and rice. Pretty excited to try something else. read more

Excited to come dine in here after reading so many positive reviews and I can tell you, no one was lying! The atmosphere is great and I love the warm welcome they give you when you walk in the door. Our server was really sweet and you could tell she cares for her job. Excellent presentation, sushi was absolutely out of this world! You NEED to try the Spider Roll! Fantastic sushi! The place is really low-key and has a mellow environment, but when I'm out eating after a long day it's exactly what I'm looking for. I personally like the Lonestar Roll the best, but all of their rolls are delicious. Service wise they are very prompt and visit you regularly but not the annoying excessive amount. Overall great place to eat and at a great price. read more

I absolutely love this place! It's my favorite sushi place. The waitstaff are very attentive and the atmosphere is wonderful. Being welcomed when you enter and thanked when you leave by the staff in Japanese makes the experience even more authentic. Went in for a casual date night, and was not disappointed! The atmosphere is very cool and you are greeted upon entry. We ordered 3 rolls with the highlighted by the Young's Favorite Roll. Midori is the greatest! We absolutely love this place. It is very reasonable on the price and the sushi is extremely good. The prices are certainly not on the "all you can eat" sushi restaurant scale, but you are paying premium for premium. On this visit, we arrived during their happy hour. Do check out their HH menu; it is more than generous. I'm not going to bore you with our selections, but the sushi is so tender and fresh that you are insulting the chef and the fish by adding soy sauce and wasabi! One highlight was the Spicy Tuna Katsu Maki; this entrée is wrapped in a seaweed cone with asparagus, avocado, wasabi mayo, and eel sauce. Another was Uni from their imported from Japan menu. My oh my, it was so fresh and creamy! If you do not want to break the bank, their HH and lunch specials will do you right. Do make reservations if you wish to sit at the sushi bar. Speaking of bars, they have a full bar and their martinis are perfectly made. You can expect 5-star service at this 5-star restaurant. The server was incompetent though, from the initial conversation you can tell he had no idea what he was doing. He would wait for me to ask him for an item. Served me sashimi with no napkins, no soy sauce, no wasabi, was painful having to look around for him when I needed something. Another patron was next to me and he was more vocal, asking for management and I could hear the server state that it was a small company and wouldn't introduce him to management. And getting a Kirin Light, it came back with half foam so he opened the beer and poured it straight up without tilting to the side. I ordered another just so I could see it again and same thing, total head. Now I do have to say the sashimi I got was great, big pieces of both salmon and yellowfin but it was pricey. $80 for two beers and two pieces of fish. Try it out for yourself and hopefully you don't get the tall server that I had to experience...just proceed with caution.
