    Sour fish soup

Spicy House could be our new neighborhood gem when it comes to Asian / sichuan resto. They offer specialty dishes that we don't typically find in a typical Chinese restaurant ( I won't name names). There are so many dishes we wanted to try but today, half of the family didn't feel too well and I was craving for spicy and sour fish soup so we opted for a hearty braised pork trotter soup and the Sour snakehead Fish Soup. Spicy house did not disappoint. Got to meet the kind owner and her daughter when we dined here today. Very kind snd hard working family. The owner says the Braised Trotter soup is cooked for 4+ hours and you can really tell. It was hearty and flavorful and not at all oily! My sick son and husband enjoyed it very much and really helped them feel better after. I really enjoyed the sour fish soup. Has good amount of spice in a sour-y soup broth, generous fish slices and a bunch of veggies including mushrooms and clear potato noodles on the bottom of the huge bowl. Served with rice as well. I'm really satisfied with this dish and happy I don't need do my drive to Austin when I crave for Sichuan Mala spicy food anymore.

This might be my new favorite sichuan restaurant in Austin! We ordered the mapo tofu, twice cooked pork, lazi chicken, and spicy boiled fish, the classic options. The depth of flavors really impressed me.

This was my fourth visit to Spicy House, and at this point it's safe to say they've never missed. Every dish we ordered tonight was consistently flavorful, fresh, and exactly what I expect from good Sichuan cooking. The Mapo Tofu was silky and spicy, it does need a little more flavor. The Chengdu Hot Spicy Beef came out tender and soaked in a rich, aromatic broth layered with spices, garlic, and herbs. The Salt and Pepper Shrimp was crisp, fragrant, and perfectly seasoned -- light batter, great texture. The Pork with Bamboo was simple in the best way: tender slices of pork, crunchy bamboo shoots. After four visits, Spicy House continues to deliver reliable, delicious dishes every time. It's become one of my go‑to spots in Austin for satisfying Sichuan food, and I'll definitely be back again to keep exploring the menu.

New Chinese restaurant. I ordered shredded pork chili, wonton, spicy wontons, lettuce and Woodear. My favorite is spicy wontons and shredded pork chili. Both are full of flavors and other two taste pretty light.

This was an amazing find! Absolutely delicious food, great service, fast ordering. I miss Chinese food, and Austin doesn't have a lot. I'm glad this place exists bc it has authentic Sichuan flavors.

Good food and spacious restaurant, in the old Nagoya steak and sushi location. It's spacious inside with booths and large tables available. Food service was quick and efficient and prices were reasonable.

Excellent. Everything was delicious and fresh. They don't OD on MSG like some other places, I won't say no names (bamboo house). If you're craving spice- they definitely got you and if you can't handle spice (myself) they got you as well.

Nice food~ love it. Authentic Chinese food. I'm surprised that they have chopped lettuce stem.. it tastes really nice, just hard to chop.

Tables for families and low seats for a group hang. I got a red bean and curry fix while also making sure I had some fall apart, moist brisket. And the wonton chips and dip has a great kick that puts a great twist on chips and salsa that you didn't know could be twisted. Brussel sprouts were cooked and flavored perfectly. The rice bowl was okay, salmon was pretty basic and the fish sauce it was served with was a little too fishy for my liking, however the rice and veggies in the bowl were great, I wish there was hot oil/chili oil or a whole spice traY on the table because standing on like for 5-10 minutes anytime you need/ want something makes the experience not so great. Drink menu is extensive and everything we had from frozen to fresh made cocktails were delish! Decor is cute, modern and welcoming. Vegatarian menu without tofu is very limited . Would come back and try something else or even just for drinks! Staff was working quickly to get orders in, and clean tables when appropriate.

They are in a "soft opening" phase currently, and we got to meet the owner who was very enthusiastic about his business, the community, and garnering any feedback we had. The food is - in one word, impeccable. We went in for a snack and ended up ordered 4x as much as we meant to because everything was so darn delicious. The menu consists of baos, sushi, hand rolls, adorable pearl shaped nigiri, bento, and more - they are all customizable with yummy sauces (miso butter - mmm!), and many types of protein (seriously like all the protein options you can find at a premium sushi bar). Everything is served with house made sauces so if you are a condiment gal/guy like me this is your place! Food - I had the escolar, unagi, and scallop hand rolls (all under $5 each) and was so surprised by the quality / freshness of the protein and the portions given. The escolar was so soft and buttery. I then ordered the shrimp fresh roll (also under $5, it was HUGE) and the chicken katsu baos (around $6-7) - they were amazing. The chicken tenders are panko crusted and fried crispy. BF tried the steak baos and LOVED them too. Okay also did I mention the PRICES?! You can't get quality food like that for a greater deal. Drinks are all $8 and hit the spot :) The interior is not completely redone / set up yet but I can't to come back when it is! The phone / QR code system makes it so easy to order. It is pretty cheap, but the serving sizes match the price, not really filling you up. The baos were pretty good. The char siu pork belly didn't look the most appealing. But it smelled and tasted pretty decent. They give you a good amount of meat too. The turmeric chicken was pretty good too, I really liked the seasoning on this one. The sushi was ok though. The presentations was super cute, with the little sushi balls! But the fish itself didn't taste as fresh as I would have liked. The workers were all really friendly though. You can practically see inside the whole kitchen when you walk in, so it's a little unsettling walking in and seeing all the workers like standing there waiting for you to put your order in online, but interacting with them, they were really friendly.

The prices are certainly not on the "all you can eat" sushi restaurant scale, but you are paying premium for premium. On this visit, we arrived during their happy hour. Do check out their HH menu; it is more than generous. I'm not going to bore you with our selections, but the sushi is so tender and fresh that you are insulting the chef and the fish by adding soy sauce and wasabi! One highlight was the Spicy Tuna Katsu Maki; this entrée is wrapped in a seaweed cone with asparagus, avocado, wasabi mayo, and eel sauce. Another was Uni from their imported from Japan menu. As we walked in, we were immediately greeted with a friendly voice from the front desk. They asked how many people were in our party, then seated us right away. They noticed that the table where we sat was a little wobbly, so they fixed it right away. We ordered a glass of red wine, a hot and sour soup, sesame chicken, beef kate-kare, a diet coke, leche flan and halo-halo. I was a bit hesitant about ordering the wine. I asked for a sample, and found out that it was decent, so I ordered a full glass. My partner, Stuart, loved the hot and sour soup. He said that it was better than Qi's hot and sour soup. He really enjoyed the sesame chicken with the broccoli being a little crispy. As for my beef kare-kare, it was a new experience for me. I've only had this dish with oxtail. It is served with a lovely side of bagaoon for a burst of flavor. The leche flan was too eggy for my friend, but a nice reminder of home for me. I love when halo-halo has bits of flan on it. Today, it did, so extra flan always makes my day. Altogether, the food, cleanliness and attentive service give this restaurant 5 stars!

Coming from California, and after having tried a few Filipino places in Texas, Kapatad really gives others a run for their money. Two thumbs up from a fellow Kapampangan! Service: Great! NO more fried rice-always my grandson's favorite. Although I was disappointed when it was time to order, I chose the Mixed Protein Bun. I requested shrimp and eggrolls. It is a bowl filled with rice noodles, shredded lettuce, cucumbers, shredded carrots, and your choice of protein. It also comes with a generous portion of fish sauce. After one bite, I knew that the old chef must have left. My food was so bland. To start with, I don't think it was salted at all..... which quite often affects the flavors negatively. There were no other spices or sauce or anything tasty in my bowl. I was very disappointed. I didn't even eat a quarter of the Bun. I didn't take the rest to go and I won't be returning, unless I see that they have returned to their former style of cooking. So I'll definitely be watching the reviews.
