I figured I'd try writing my reviews for service a little bit different by rating each stage of the service process. So this would be stage 1. Initial contact and communication. I found Midtown Autoworks as they are sponsors of the Sacramento Region Porsche Club of America (PCA). I called their shop and was politely answered and directed to Nico for my questions about replacing a clutch. He was very knowledgeable on the topic and allowed me to voice my thoughts and opinions before voicing his. He did not try and 'up sell' anything and is a 'matter of fact' kind of guy. (To me, it's a good sign of an honest mechanic who wants repeat business versus trying to make a quick buck.) The phone conversation was quick and to the point and even included some great advice from Nico. I will update it if I do decide to move forward with their services. read more

I happened upon this shop today when I was in need of someone to adjust my tire pressure. I had actually called another shop and mistakenly entered the wrong name into my navi, ultimately leading me here. Imagine Niko's surprise when I rolled up in a Chevy Equinox telling him I just talked to him on the phone and that he told me to come right in. After telling me that he works exclusively on German cars, Niko handled it like a champ, took my car right in and adjusted the pressure in my tires, all the while being very pleasant and not showing any annoyance that I had just showed up unannounced asking him for help with my American car! After he did his thing, he chatted for a few minutes and even took the time to tell me about a great shop he knows in the area. I don't have much experience with auto shops, but I can definitely say that my experience today was not what I would expect. Niko's customer service was exemplary and the 5 star reviews on here certainly attest to that. Unfortunately I don't have a German car to bring to him, but if I did Midtown Autoworks would definitely be my go to for service and repairs. They did a PPI for me on a car and did a very thorough job. The owner was able to accommodate me with an appointment to inspect the car within the same week of calling. Very prompt and responsive whenever I called and took the time to go through every single detail and information about the car after the inspection. Highly recommended. There are a lot of repair shops which I have dealt with that I found to be crooks but this is not the place. These are honest people who charges fairly for the work that is done. With that said - here is my full review. I called to schedule an appointment yesterday and was told to come in early in the morning because that was their most available time frame (as they are usually very busy in the afternoons. I arrived first thing in the morning with Niko there immediately to greet me. The place is a typical repair shop, not super big/not super small. You pull in, Niko greets you and takes your keys to inspect thoroughly. After the inspection, he will give you a rough estimate before he proceeds with the service. Once you give him the green light, he will proceed and as soon as he is finished he will review the car's health with you first prior to giving you the itemized cost breakdown. I came here for a b2 service or a "service b" for my Mercedes Benz CLA 250 as well as a review of my tire pressure notification in my dash that would just not go away. Upon review of my vehicle he quoted me at 400 + tax = ~415 I thought it was pretty reasonable compared to what the dealer would have asked. I found Niko to be straight forward, knowledgeable and honest. This is a family owned company, and it makes me feel better that I am supporting a local business rather than a big box chain or the dealership. Please note, they are closed for 3 weeks every July of each year for a family vacation. Call ahead to make sure you get your service in time. After being serviced, I tried to give them a tip, though he refused many times - I pretty much forced in on him. All in all good service and good people's. I inspected my car as well, the annoying tire notification is finally gone and everything looks in shape. He even made sure to let me know what I need to look out for in terms of my next auto repair (In my case it was my front tires) and he also cleaned out the windshield of all the leaves and fallen debris. I first went to Niko because all of the reviews on Yelp were so positive. That made me trust him. He did good work on my Benz the first couple of times but then i had an accident that caused expensive damage to my front end suspension.My insurance company paid close to $7,000 to fix it. A day or two after picking my car up it dawned on me that he had-not replaced the front struts, which was part of the repair cost the insurance already paid for. Then in a years time my Rack and Pinion sprung a bad power steering leak from the seals. He said I needed a new power steering pump. Which wasn't true. After that my transmission slipped once or twice an he said i needed a rebuilt tranny for $5000. I left, my tranny drove good until i sold it 5 yrs later. I never went back to Nikos shop. read more

I purchased a used Audi and I called Midtown Autoworks to see if they could perform the needed service. I also asked if he would look at the vehicle to see if it was in good condition. He agreed to look at the vehicle and ensure it was in good condition before doing any kind of service. And he even agreed to call the place that I purchased the vehicle from to see if they would pay for any of the service. He was incredibly honest and very genuine to deal with. I would highly recommend him if you have a German car. I believe he mostly works on Porsches and Mercedes. And yet he also worked on my Audi and did a great job. read more

I requested a quote from Midtown Autoworks for a PPI on a flooded Porsche. The owner responded promptly with a pretty high quote compared to others after I responded with the links to the car for sales and carfax info. The owner urged me to schedule an appointment as soon as possible. This Porsche is expensive even with a salvage title. I figure I should use the 'best independent Porsche mechanics in town' to do this at a higher price for such a high risk car. It is almost near what a dealer would charge. I also ask the owner if he can make some recommendations on purchasing this car after the PPI. After that email, all communication stopped. The Porsche was sold shortly after. Niko is the highest integrity shop I've ever dealt with. Based on other Yelp reviews I went to get my 06 Cayman inspected (just bought it). Explained a few things I was seeing as potentially wrong. Dropped car off at 9am. He said he'd call. He actually did! And then he explained all the little things he found and the cost to fix. He then said, ehh - most of them you don't need to worry about unless you really want to. Then when I came by to pick up the car and pay, he said "Don't worry about it. I'll see you when your car needs servicing". Amazing! Haven't received customer service like this in many industries and none in the auto industry. Niko is a high class act. P.S. I have a Mercedes E class and took it in for a battery check. The dealership quoted me a ridiculous price so I contacted Midtown Autoworks for a quote. Niko was super nice and was able to squeeze me in with no appointment the very next day. I ended up getting a new battery with him and the total cost was significantly less than what the dealership quoted me and was also done within an hour and a half. He then proceeded to tell me what everything would cost and I just got a weird vibe from him. That's what led me to call midtown auto works. Niko was super nice. He told me how much he would charge if he did what the dealer recommend. His prices were great...50% less than the dealer to be exact. I ended up picking up my car and bringing it straight to Nikos shop. I really wish I would have brought my cars to him sooner because the service I got today was excellent! Took awhile for me to write this review but Niko (the owner) really knows his Porsches!! Took my 07 Cayman in for an oil change for the first time since I bought it and he not only provided a great service with a competitive price, he also checked my brake fluid and asked me if I want to change it since it was dirty. Then recently my Cayman's check engine light came on. I spoke with him about it and told me to bring it in. Without charging me, he looked up the code and ordered me a Porsche fuel cap. Once I arrived, he attended to my problem even though he was working on another car. He quickly resolved the issue and explained to me why the check engine light was on. Now my Cayman has been running strong and I appreciate his time and caring. I will definite come back whenever I need any service done to my Cayman. read more

I came to Midtown Autoworks because I have gone to two other local Porsche 'specialists' who could not troubleshoot a leak. One shop even had my car for over a month, which included 3 return trips. That was frustrating to say the least. Niko and his team fixed my leak - permanently. To make the situation more unique and complex, this was a known issue from Porsche, but did not have any manuals, or replacement parts since it was not a Porsche manufactured component. Niko went out to research the problem, how to fix it, found replacement parts from a specialty shop and performed the repair based on his 10+ years of factory training and experience. Needless the say, Midtown Autoworks is the only shop in Sacramento I would trust and recommend that have your Porsche serviced - whether it be regular service or unique problem. Here's the icing on the cake for me. I have been to many shops from many different manufacturers. When Niko says he will call you back on a certain date with an update, or a quote - he does! I have been to countless shops where they never do what they say they will. I always have to call them back or chase them down just for an update. This is a great example of how customer service should be. So with the technical expertise to fix your problem (or perform regular maintenance) with factory training and many years of experience, great customer service, and reasonable pricing, is there any reason to go anywhere else? I don't usually write reviews on Yelp and try not to write bad ones. But my experience with Nico at Midtown Autoworks has been so overwhelmingly positive I had to take the time to thank him. I have a Mercedes Sprinter van and the battery died on me. It's my work van so I can't really be without it. I contacted the Mercedes dealer in Arden and they told me that there was a National shortage of the battery I needed and they would get back to me when they came in stock. I asked if there were any after market batteries and was told they'd look into it. Anyway, I ended up having to rent a van for the week while waiting for this battery. Stupid move on my part. I should have called Nico right away. After a week I did and he found me a Bosch battery he said was more expensive, but would work perfect. Turns out I paid the same as I would have for a lesser battery at the dealer. After 90 minutes it was installed. Nico also changed the brake light that had the wrong bulb in it and cleared all of the panel lights. Two weeks later and my van starts up beautifully. I will be using Midtown Autoworks for everything that I don't have to use the dealer for from now on. Ps- The Mercedes dealer still hasn't contacted me about the battery. read more

I had read reviews about Nico and his service so I stopped by his shop to see if he could help me out. I had just purchased a 2005 Porsche 997.1 C2 and it had a strange rattle while under load. I couldn't find anything loose and it was driving me crazy. Nico took it for a quick test drive, put it up on a lift and found the issue - a loose transmission mount! 2 minute fix. Since it was already on the lift, had the oil changed as well. Nico did a quick inspection, checked the brakes, fluids, etc. and explained to me the "real" services that are needed. Highly recommend.
