Bought a house and the chimney was in disrepair. They suggested I put a sleeve in the chimney stack instead of repairing / replacing the bricks that could allow embers to gain access to other parts of the house. Could be a huge issue if the house were to burn right? The sleeve was inserted, but now the smoke from the fireplace would fill the room. When I asked for them to come and fix it, they just told me that I would have to start the fire directly in the middle of the fireplace. That didn't work, so I stopped using the fireplace for a bit of time. Later, I went to a different company. They did an inspection and noted several issues with the sleeve installed by Goodrich. Once you see the photos below, it makes complete sense why the smoke was coming back into the house! Why didn't they cut the excess length off the sleeve and allow the smoke to draft completely. Even so, the diameter of the sleeve was also questionable - so everything they did was just money down the drain. I absolutely cannot recommend this company and wish I had read Yelp before hiring them.

Accessing the top of the chimney was a tricky job. All work was completed in a satisfactory manner.

When I contacted this company to point out that I didn't need to be charged for an outlet and separate line to be installed for my electric fireplace since it was already present, the office doubled down claiming that I did not have an outlet installed. They did not believe me at all until I sent a picture of a very obvious electrical outlet. I ordered an electric fireplace that I wanted and they said they were willing to "install" the electric fireplace that I wanted for an increased labor fee, which I initially really appreciated. I then came to find out their installation involved simply leveling the unit, it was not fixed into place in any way, and actually almost fell out of the fireplace when my dog bumped into it. Because they didn't fix it into place, it makes a horrible sound during heating because it vibrates unevenly. Apparently this "leveling" is all that installation involves, for over $1000. I was told that the face plate for the fireplace would come and would be installed within 1.5 weeks of this leveling, possibly sooner. I paid for this all up front upon the leveling of the unit. Three weeks later, I called the office to ask why they hadn't contacted me yet, and they said they forgot to tell me that their supplier for the face plate had broken production equipment leading to a delay. So now it's weeks later and I just got the plate installed today. Meaning for 3 weeks my electric fireplace could have just fallen out. The end result is also poor. The faceplate that was installed is uneven and bows out a ton. I can fit my pinky finger into it. If you push on the fireplace the gap can be closed but slowly comes back. TLDR- triple check your quotes from this company and don't trust the timelines they give you, and the end result is probably not worth the price tag. There are certain things I would recommend having them do, like insulating a flue. But I would never recommend this company for electric fireplace installation. I really regret not just doing the work myself because it really is as easy as installing any other appliance.

I'm glad they caught it, as I never would have known. The following time I had them take out my cast iron insert so we could use the full fireplace. Which they did and sealed up any cracks, along with putting a flue on the top and getting me all set. The last time he came out was to install a front to my fireplace. Every time he's been out, he's been helpful with his knowledge, offers recommendations, he's friendly. I'm not sure what average prices are for the things I've requested, (I mean how much is it to take out a cast iron fireplace?), but I'm happy with the work he's provided me with. And for just the regular cleaning of the chimney, I believe the cost to be fair. He's not just cleaning the chimney, he's also looking for potential issues. I'll have him back for regular cleanings.

Do Not Hire - Disrespect, Poor Workmanship, and Broken Promises…read more We hired Fireplace Solutions and Services for a $37,000 fireplace remodel, and the experience was extremely disappointing. Although, in general, the fireplace does look good from afar, as you get closer anyone will notice the inconsistency and lack of workmanship. Especially for a project at this price point. Note: We did use very large format tile (4'x9') but this was communicated to their whole team multiple times. The project finished on time (2 weeks) but was clearly rushed. Our biggest complaint was about the hearth installation. It was the last thing to get done and was rushed leaving uneven and chipped tiles, untooled caulk between the floor and tile, grout haze, and some other minor items. Also, I raised concerns about the original thermostat placement three different times and was told it wouldn't be an issue. It now reads 16 degrees higher than the rest of the room. Although it was moved when they came back that day - see below - it has left a drywall patch that I now need to take care of. The owner (Steve) initially seemed helpful and agreed that all the issues needed fixing. A crew came back but spent just 2 hours doing cosmetic cover-ups. They left a bad drywall patch, didn't recaulk, and left even more grout hazed than the first time. When I followed up, the owner (Steve) completely changed his tone. On the phone, he told me "All you guys do is keep b***hing" and called my wife and I ungrateful. Since then, he's ignored all my calls and texts. I've only asked for partial reimbursement for the bad drywall patch and damaged hardwood floor -- and have heard nothing back. (They damaged the floor by dropping a tile). Now I am left covering these costs and possibly redoing the entire hearth at my own cost. This company showed total disrespect, dishonesty, and poor workmanship for us as clients. Despite some of the negative reviews I read about Breathe Fresh, I decided to hire them because most of the bad reviews were not that recent. I spoke with Bobby on the phone and he gave me a quote to clean our air ducts, fireplace and chimney. The next day I texted him to schedule the service and at the end he asked me to text him the address and the price he quoted me. I thought that was strange. Even more strange is that I was asked again the day of by Jon, who actually did the service, as he didn't know what the quoted price was either. Furthermore, Jon also had to ask me what service was being performed. Jon was great! He explained everything as he was doing it and showed me some before and after photos. The one knock on the actual service is that Jon left all of our vents closed, which I did not discover until a couple days later when I realized that the heater was running more often and for longer than usual. I didn't expect this because he ran the fan for almost 20 minutes before leaving to "get the air circulating." Not sure much was circulating though given the closed vents, but that's not the reason for the 2-star review. Keep reading... The first fire I burned in the fireplace after the cleaning resulted in a smokey odor in the house the next day. It was fine while the fire was burning, and I'm certain the damper was open, so I don't believe this to be an error on my part. Wed 12/13 @ 5:49 pm: Bobby calls and leaves a voicemail, apologizes for missing my call earlier, and says to call him back or text for a faster response. He suggested that I plan to save $6000 to $7000 for a new one this fall. In November I met with a Walrath salesperson who evaluated where the furnace was located in my crawl space and advised that the price would be $8000. Two days later his written proposal came in at $10,000. When I asked him about the difference, he said that he had forgotten to add in how labor intensive my particular installation would be. He was certain it would go into a second day. I took him at his word. It took the workmen less than 6 hours to complete the job. The salesman and head of the company - now called Walrath Mechanical - refuse to talk to me about the $2000 extra I was charged for labor that was not required. This is a scam. I have since noted on Yelp that I am not the only reviewer of Walrath who trusted a grossly inflated bid. These guys are crooks. Homeowners like me and managers of commercial properties may have once appreciated this small company. Don't be fooled - they no longer care about you.
