I came to Midtown Retreat with my husband for a quick mani/pedi when we came to Houston for business. While I am very picky about my nails, because of the overwhelmingly positive Yelp reviews we decided to check it out. We had no problem getting appointments, which was great. When we arrived, the front desk lady was polite but not overly friendly. The young lady who did my husband's pedicure took advantage of the fact that he was watching football and left 2 of the services off his pedicure (the callous removal and scrub and the extended massage). She also did a horrible job cleaning his cuticles - by horrible I mean she didn't push them back and didn't clip them. When we walked out I noticed pieces of cuticle hanging off his feet. He complained of his feet still feeling rough and I had her do the callous removal which she complained about. The hot stones were not hot - more like lukewarm - and she only massaged him for 5 minutes. Now my pedicure was OK. The woman who did them wasn't aggressive enough with the cuticles (again) and left pieces on. I said something to her (and she pretended she didn't understand me) and she ended up going over them 3 times to correct it. My manicure was even worse: the polish was applied unevenly and it doesn't even look like I had my nails done. They are well shaped, but the woman who did them left tons of dry skin and cuticle behind. Even with me saying stuff to her. For my husband's manicure he had the same experience (without the polish) but by the time we were done - 2 and a half hours later for what we were told was a 1 hour experience - we were ready to go and hated having to breathe down the technician's necks for poor results. we both felt taken advantage of for the service and results. It was so bad I changed the amount of my tip on my receipt. They charged us $65 each for our experiences and I honestly feel like this was done by amateurs. I wouldn't have paid more than $20 for these services had I known how horrible the outcome would be. They also didn't tell us of the 5% off special on Yelp. Scam. Beware or spend your money elsewhere. read more

My daughters treated me to a Spa Day at Elan's and it was the very best. The ambiance is regal and the service was befitting a Queen for A Day. I loved the experience and we will all be returning. Heidi, Sandra and the other ladies were exceptional. read more

Absolutley love this place. I have only been there twice now but both times have been phenomenal. They don't rush and they value quality. Usually, my shellac lasts two weeks at a MAX but from there, almost THREE weeks. Also, it's always great to have a class of wine while at a salon! read more

This salon is ok; the prices are reasonable. It's not a very friendly place : my stylist churlishly washed and blow dried my hair. They have a limited product selection; no blue shampoo or conditioner for light hair. I would not go back! read more

I started a new job around the corner and needed a nail place close due to my schedule. I've been disappointed with my gel and powdered manis lately. I made a same day appointment and they finished before my lunch hour was complete on both a chrome mani and regular pedi! Not only were they efficient but they were very detailed in their work and very genuine in serving your needs. Very small but quaint place that offers great prices for excellent service and top quality products in the industry. I even had compliments back at work and my coworker came the very next day for her manicure ! I booked an immediate consult for my hair and met with Scarlett - she was honest and upfront about what we could do with what I wanted. Great staff! I came in with my 9 month old who was getting cranky and one of the ladies that work there took the time to cheer him up and held him and walked him around while I was getting pampered. My baby loved the attention. They weren't busy so she decided to do that... Great customer service and the girls working on my mani and pedi were funny and sweet!!! Great place in Midtown for nails. Ask for Timmie (female) she's awesome! I moved to Houston and went through 6 nail techs before I found Timmie. She pays attention to details and will do you nails just as you like. Her pedicures are also wonderful. Can't comment on hair or massage. Have never had those services there. read more

I love this place! I have been going to Timmie for 8 months for pedicures and acrylics and she is WONDERFUL! I always get compliments on my nails! The atmosphere here is relaxing complete with massage chairs and you can even get a glass of wine while you're being pampered! I would highly recommend them! read more

Had a Bio-ionic treatment done yesterday, and I can only say good things about it. Since the time I scheduled the appointment until the time I left the place everything went great. The person that does the treatment is a perfectionist and makes sure your hair will look amazing. My hair is now so shiny and smooth, I am very thankful. I got a full set of nails done today by Tee. It was the best experience I have ever had getting my nails done. I tried the dipping method which their website said is the healthiest ones to get and they are beautiful. Tee was friendly and gave me the best hand massage when she was finished. I recently brought a bachelorette party to Midtown. I made reservations in advance for pedicures for a group of 12. The reservation process was very easy and since I'm not from Texas nor do I live there, I was VERY pleasantly surprised at how nice the place was. The staff were very welcoming and did an excellent job. They have 5 pedicure chairs and the "regular" pedicures lasted about 30 minutes each. The quality was excellent. My only complaint is that some of the staff did some things that others didn't (like pressure points and longer massages) which was nice but left a few sorta sad they missed out. No real complaints here though. When only 7 people showed up instead of 12, they weren't very happy but didn't try to charge for more and just simply went about their day. Not coming back again for sure! Decided to come in after a long week to relax...Came in for a pedi/mani. Pedicure was done good, although the water was very cold, even after I asked to make it warmer. However my experience was completely ruined by the lady doing my manicure. She was telling me a story how she hurt a guy during his pedicure, and how bad she felt. She went on and on, and would not stop. I tried to comfort her, however she would not stop. The owner even told her to be quiet. She was loud and did an awful job on my solar nails... Awful form., and two nails broke in two days...She also yanked my hand several times, after I said that the color looks fine. The price this salon is charging is not comparative to the service. I thought this was a spa... And I wanted to come there to relax and de-stress. Instead I came out aggravated and full of negative energy. They really need to work on their customer service! I went to Midtown Spa because I had read some good reviews. I really wanted to like this place because it is close to my apt. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!! Just the basic pedicure is $30 and they don't even use a hot towel after the painful massage. Instead they use a dry/hard towel to dry off the lotion. The solar set was just ok...the lady cut my cuticle with the spinning filer and then said it was my fault because I would not relax. I came here to relax and that is the last thing I did. I had to be worried about the lady cutting the skin on top of my cuticle the whole time. On top of her talking to her coworker about my nails and whatever else she was saying next to my ear. She filed my nails in a weird non round-non squared shape EVEN after I said I wanted SQUARED. I finally decided to file my own nails and once again she started talking loudly to her coworker pointing to my nails. Needless to say, I will not come here again. It is overpriced and the service is mediocre. read more

I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this place! I first went to Midtown Salon about 6 months ago and was looking for a great cut and highlights. I also needed a salon that helps clients who have trichotillomania (a hair pulling disorder). At first, I emailed them and got ahold of the manager, Tee. She was very nice and professional about helping me and made sure that when I got there I felt comfortable. When I finally arrived, I met her and a stylist named Victor who cut and highlighted my hair. Not only did I feel 100% comfortable, but Victor also made me look like a million bucks! I am a blonde so it's important for me to find someone that really knows how to make my hair look natural. Even though the process of getting it done takes quite a while (3-4 hours), it's worth all the time and money! I just went back today (6 months later) and can't believe I was able to go that long without it looking crazy. Some places just throw a bunch of bleach on your hair and call it a day, but Victor takes his time and works so that when your hair grows out, you don't have ultra-noticable roots. I recommend Midtown Salon to anyone who is a blonde, a trichotillomania sufferer, or just someone looking for a fabulous place to get their hair done. I am SO glad I went and am more than happy to give them my business. :D read more

My first time at Midtown Retreat was a little over a week ago. I was looking for a nail salon in the area and booked mani and pedi appointments for my best girlfriend and I for her birthday. I called the morning of and was able to get both of us in that afternoon (a Thursday). They have a large selection of different types of polish and colors. The ladies were sweet and very kind. My girlfriend and I were very pleased. I had read many great reviews about Midtown Retreat and am glad that I chose it for our pampering. While my nails were drying, I got the chance to watch Victor work on a lady's hair. He has gotten many raves from other reviewers and I thought I'd make an appointment for my mom who hasn't had the best of luck with haircuts. Victor worked on her hair today and performed his magic on what she had left of a very recent bad cut. He couldn't be more sweeter of a person and she left the salon feeling confident again. Thank you, Victor, for accomplishing my goal. That was part of her Mothers' Day gift :) We will definitely be repeat customers. read more

I didn't see many reviews for extensions but this place was one of the only I found while researching for micro bead extensions in Houston. I decided to go for it and am SO glad that I did! I have extremely thin hair and a previous bad experience with fusion extensions so I was very nervous to go through with this, not to mention some uneven highlights that were quite grown out. They dyed my hair back to my natural color and it immediately looked healthier. Then Tee took over to do the extensions. She was extremely gentle and fast- definitely knew what she was doing. Once they were done I could hardly even feel them and they looked beautiful! The staff here was friendly and answered all my questions and I felt incredibly comfortable. I did take before and after pictures that I will have to upload! But just to anyone who is considering extensions- go here! I have received so many compliments on my hair and no one can tell!!! read more
