I have been in search of a good pho spot in North Carolina for a while and I think I have finally found it. This restaurant is authentic and the broth here really hit the spot for me. The also has all the side condiments you would want to go with your pho which is hard to find around here. Second visit. First time, slow service but good food. We gave grace. This time? A reminder that aesthetic does not equal execution. The space is lively and well-designed. It photographs beautifully. Unfortunately, restaurants aren't judged on lighting. We ordered everything upfront: Banh Xeo (explicitly no shrimp due to a shellfish allergy), Cha Gio, Pho Tai, and the Chef Special. Somehow, not everything was entered correctly. The Banh Xeo arrived covered in shrimp. Allergy clearly stated. It was sent back immediately. We were told they could remake it, but it would "take a while because it takes a long time to make." Banh Xeo takes under 10 minutes in a properly run kitchen. We declined and assumed the rest of our meal would arrive promptly. It didn't. The egg rolls weren't just fried, they were fully baptized in oil. One bite and it felt like chewing on a sponge that lost a fight with the fryer. Then we watched tables seated at least 15 minutes after us receive their food before we did. When we asked about the remainder of our order, we were told it had "just been added" and would take a while. Pho taking 35+ minutes in a Vietnamese restaurant isn't high volume. It's disorganization. The Chef Special was decent. The pho, which should be the backbone of the menu, was underwhelming. Several tables around us had incorrect orders or long delays. The owner circulated, but instead of urgency or accountability, the energy felt inconvenienced. Here's the reality: great atmosphere can draw people in once. Food and leadership bring them back. I had to comeback and try their pho, and it didn't disappoint. I got the pho with sliced rare beef and it was delicious. The broth was rich and herby (if cilantro isn't your style tell them before hand but it was the perfect amount for me) the beef was thin not fatty and a large portion of noodles. I was able to add chili paste to my preference without the broth getting salty. this is definitely going to be my pho spot. This place is very popular. I've been here a couple times now and there is always a line of people waiting. It's a small venue, a bit cramped, but the food is tasty. They've got your typical Vietnamese dishes, but since it's called "Midtown Pho," I, of course, had to order their pho. The broth was fantastic, and I did not feel super thirsty after the meal so it is not super heavy on the MSG. Good portion sizes too. This is hands-down my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in the triangle area. They have a great story that's plastered on the restaurant wall and are so accommodating toward vegetarian/vegan customers. I always go for the tofu summer rolls and vermicelli noodle tofu dish - so delicious and never disappoints! Their vegan pho broth is mild and not my favorite so would not recommend that unless you put your own sauce mixture into it. My friend said the beef broth was quite tasty though. I did not have good experiences here the last two times I visited . Once they were crowded and they put me at the counter facing the parking lot, which was fine. Except they left me there for 10 minutes. No menus, no water, clearly they had their staffing assignments messed up. When I got up to leave, I told them quietly that I was leaving and would come back when they weren't so busy. They just shrugged at me, nobody said sorry or offered to take my order. I have only been back there once since then, with friends who wanted to go. They served me a Coke, but when I asked for a refill, the wait staff said that the machine was empty and would be refilled shortly. Five minutes later, they said they were still waiting. 10 minutes after that they said that they were too busy to fill it. They didn't offer me water or iced tea or anything else as an alternative. And they still charged me four dollars for the one glass of soda. I think they are too busy for their own good an don't have adequate staff. Most of the staff look like teenagers. I was searching for Banh cuon and was disappointed it wasn't in the menu. The server steered me towards Banh Xeo, a large vegetable-laden pancake. I selected the shrimp version. Absolutely loved taking some minty Thai basil leaves, a piece of the pancake, wrapping it with lettuce with my chopsticks (sometimes dropping it!) and then dipping it into the sauce. Came here during the lunch hour, around noon and it was pretty busy. I was able to get a seat at the bar with no problem. I ordered the spicy pho and it was very good. The spice wasn't terrible, they could have added more, but I understand everyone has a different tolerance. I also ordered a Thai tea that was delicious as well. The food was pretty decent but probably not over the moon for it. We were sat at the bar by the host because the inside was full but weren't given any menus or silverware or anything and when the server came up after awhile asked if we were ready but we said we didn't have menus. Same with the food once it came out, we had to ask for silverware. When we paid it took a really long time to pay and leave and I had to walk up and ask if we could pay. I don't know how service is at the tables but at the bar it wasn't very good. I got the pork chop plate and the pieces of meat were very thin and not much of a pork chop. It didn't taste bad but wasn't much there and it was okay. My friend I went with seemed to get pretty sick afterwards as well, so I'm not sure if something there made her sick but it was a little bit after we left. read more

Been here a few times. Prices have gone up but it seems pho and banh mi's quality have gone down. Pho soup seemed to be off the from spice and depth perspective. Banh mi seemed one dimensional sweet. However the bun itself is one of the better ones in Raleigh. $10 for a mediocre sandwich is pretty steep. $16 for pho. Eating out is getting very expensive! I found a 4.5 star average review on Yelp at this local Vietnamese restaurant in the heart of Raleigh, NC. For that reason, I definitely decided to check it out upon arrival. It was a rainy Thursday September 2024 evening when I arrived in Raleigh, NC at RDU. Took an uber to the restaurant where I met up with my friend. I arrived closed to 8pm and waited outside for my friend for a few minutes before heading inside. The restaurant itself was small but could hold maybe 50 people at any given time. The ambiance was nice and quiet and definitely a place to be to have dinner. Since I was gearing up for a 24 hr endurance event, I decided to get the combination Pho with summer rolls. I also wanted a strawberry margarita, so that was that. It was an enjoyable meal with my friend who was local to the area. We spent about 45 minutes here chatting, catching up, and eating. The restaurant itself was clean and the service was good albeit average but friendly. For the most part though, the experience here at the Midtown Pho Raleigh, it was a nice quiet meal with a friend that was quite good and definitely place to check out if you're in the area. I mean they have 4 1/2 hours on yelp, that's got to mean something and it attracted me here to dry out. Too bad that I didn't take photos but I'm sure it was amazing as it looked! I even asked my friend during the dinner that if she could drop me off at my hotel before going home, and she did. And so, if you like authentic Vietnamese cuisine and are in the area, consider coming on by and having a bowl of delicious beef noodle soup and your alcoholic drink of choice. They also have a bar that is seemingly well stocked for any occasion that you may have.
