I found a 4.5 star average review on Yelp at this local Vietnamese restaurant in the heart of Raleigh, NC. For that reason, I definitely decided to check it out upon arrival. It was a rainy Thursday September 2024 evening when I arrived in Raleigh, NC at RDU. Took an uber to the restaurant where I met up with my friend. I arrived closed to 8pm and waited outside for my friend for a few minutes before heading inside. The restaurant itself was small but could hold maybe 50 people at any given time. The ambiance was nice and quiet and definitely a place to be to have dinner. Since I was gearing up for a 24 hr endurance event, I decided to get the combination Pho with summer rolls. I also wanted a strawberry margarita, so that was that. It was an enjoyable meal with my friend who was local to the area. We spent about 45 minutes here chatting, catching up, and eating. The restaurant itself was clean and the service was good albeit average but friendly. For the most part though, the experience here at the Midtown Pho Raleigh, it was a nice quiet meal with a friend that was quite good and definitely place to check out if you're in the area. I mean they have 4 1/2 hours on yelp, that's got to mean something and it attracted me here to dry out. Too bad that I didn't take photos but I'm sure it was amazing as it looked! Have been here several times now and been very pleased each time. Quality and quantity of food is terrific. Most recent visit was two of us for lunch. Hostess sat us at a table and a Server quickly took our order. Food came out nice and hot and so good! I tried the Spicy Lemongrass Chicken and this is a veggie-lovers dream come true. I swear there was a whole head of broccoli plus other veggies including baby bok choy. I ate about half and got another lunch out of it the next day. I didn't find it to be spicy at all. Just had good flavor. Sis has gotten the pork noodles several times now and loves them. She would have liked extra sauce and I would have liked a knife to cut the al dente veggies but we never saw our busy Server again. My mom just moved to Raleigh from Florida and said she hasn't been able to find a good banh mi here. I went to Yelp, and found this place had good reviews and I see why now. When we walked in we were greeted and helped right away. It's a small location maybe 10 tables, but they also have a full bar with chairs. The place has beautiful decorations and wall hangings. First delicious bite is the Fresh Grilled Pork Summer Roll which has lettuce, cucumber, beansprout, and basil wrapped in rice paper and served with peanut sauce. Awesome app to start today's meal off .. the grilled pork inside is yummy .. Next up is the Banh Xeo aka vietnamese pancake .. it has shrimp and pork, onion, beansprout, mungbean inside a delicate pancake almost like an omelet and served with mint, basil, and sweet fish sauce, best and traditional way to eat this is to take pieces of the pancake and fold it with veggies inside a lettuce leaf and make it into a one biter wrap and dip it in the fish sauce ... might be a lil messy but it's the traditional way... or you can just enjoy it as is and scope it up with your utensils. Remember it's a delicate dish so it will fall apart on you .. This dish is exactly how my mom made it and still does. So brings me a lil piece of home in the Carolinas.. Back in my hometown! It is cold outside and nothing feel more soothing than having some good Pho to warm me up! I wanted to feel like a tourist in the city so I placed my order through Chow Now and walked down the street. I ordered a Sliced Rare Beef Pho. It was a 15 minute walk so by the time I arrived, it was ready in no time! I decided to eat in to warm up a bit and while I'm sitting here, I can honestly say it is a nice establishment. We rarely find ourselves on this side of town so we were excited to see that there was a highly rated Viet place nearby. We were greeted by a lovely employee who was very friendly and personable. We got the nem nuong for an appetizer which was pretty good. I loved the peanut sauce that came with it. For our entrees, I got the pork vermicelli and my mom got the pho. My pork was just okay. It was a little too sweet and I was missing that grilled smokey flavor that thit nuong should really have. My mom's pho on the other hand was really delicious! It was PACKED on this weekday evening, so opted to sit at one of 3 sidewalk tables outside. Given proximity to cars idling waiting for takeout, don't know that I'd do that again. Service is OK. It seemed as if they were short-handed, as the wait to have order taken and to have food served was on the long side. I suspect that service is more coherent for those seated in the dining room. Started with steamed dumplings. Five dumplings to the serving, these are succulent with pork stuffing and tangy dipping sauce. A great start. Next up, a tempura platter. Carrots, sweet potato, onion, zucchini are battered and deep fried golden brown. Tempura sauce is creamy and tangy. A nice selection of veggies. Yum! Also tried banh mi with tofu. Tofu seasoned beautifully, very flavorful. Served on a fresh baguette with mayo, cukes, cilantro and a couple of jalaenos. Lastly, combo pho. It's the classic prep - beef broth, steak, brisket, sliced meatball over a knot of thin noodles. Their version has plenty of sliced onion, green onion and cilantro in the mix. I was disappointed with the unfriendly attitude when I said good morning but no response was delivered back to me. The waitress was very polite when she took my order. The beef pho was not tasty at all especially the noodles were not fresh. I ordered two banh mi sandwiches to go and it was a waste of money. The baguettes on both were stale and the meats were not tasty. The only thing I can suggest is when a customer is still eating, it is best to not rush the customer with the bill. This is officially the "BEST" bowl of Pho in the Triangle -- in my honest opinion. The spices, sweetness, saltiness blends so well with the beefy broth, creating a soup flavor like no other I've tasted in the Triangle. When I think of Pho, this is exactly what I have in mind! A perfect bowl of Pho is about balance, from the amount of noodles to the meat; can't have too much or less of either or it ruins the soup. The temperature must also stay warm until you finish everything within the bowl -- that's what this bowl of Pho was all about! I was quite impressed by the first sip of the broth to the very last drip. A special shout out to the "beef brisket", that was freaken amazing! It just melts in your mouth and is well-flavored, almost like a kick of fish sauce. I live about 30-minutes away from Midtown Pho but don't mind making the commute to devour another bowl. If I'm spending $12-15, I want the best, and Midtown Pho is the best. I look forward to trying other items on the menu in the near future. read more

I think Midtown Pho is an awesome addition to this side of town! I love that they are a local business in this plaza and not just another chain. I've been around four times now since it's right down the street from my house. I have dined outside each time (they have a few tables on the sidewalk), but I did notice that they did an awesome job with the interior. I've mostly stuff with a variation of beef pho every time I've been in. Each time I've been super happy with it. It's not my absolute favorite pho in the Triangle, but it is quite delicious. I've also tried their Vietnamese pancake, Vietnamese coffee, filet beef dish, and lychee tea. The only thing I wouldn't order again was the lychee tea, it was way too sweet, I couldn't drink it. The filet beef dish was good, but not my favorite with so many other great options on the menu. The service is always spot on and super friendly. Another yelper posted such an intriguing picture of a Vietnamese pancake that we had to order it. Great idea! It was a LOT bigger than we thought--almost half the size of a dinner plate. It was stuffed with shrimp and pork, with lettuce, Thai basil and fish sauce on the side. My shrimp pho had a rich broth with about nine or ten medium-sized shrimp and was so big I had to take half home. My friend loved his spicy beef pho (with beef and sausage) and said it was just spicy enough, without being overwhelming. He finished the whole thing! Our server was extremely helpful and friendly, and he was very excited about the restaurant and the food. He even patiently showed us how to eat the Vietnamese pancake. Located in a quiet spot on Six Forks Road, you could easily pass by Midtown Pho but that would be a mistake! This new Vietnamese eatery is owned by the same family that runs Pho Far East, a favorite in the area. But Midtown Pho does things a lot differently. High ceilings, mod decor and a sun-lit dining room make for an entire different dining experience. Sit at the bar and grab a beer or wine as a solo diner or you can get a small table. The menu covers all the basics: com, bun (vermicelli), pho and banh mi. Their grilled pork is nicely charred with a lot of caramelized flavor. Their fresh summer rolls are excellent, served with a strong peanut sauce. And the specialty banh mi was on good bread and full of flavor. Overall it's an excellent menu with some more unique items like banh xeo (VN pancake). Overall I like the fact they are doing slightly fancier Vietnamese that's still authentic and full of flavor. With the more upscale experience, you'll pay a bit more but Midtown Pho is still very worthwhile.
