Celebrated an anniversary with my girlfriend with dinner here! The staff was super accommodating, helpful, and friendly despite us being underdressed after a day of exploring Raleigh (oops). Pretty cool incorporating high end Chinese food, and the atmosphere was fancy but cozy. Don't forget to look around, they have lots of cool decorations! As for food, I was a bit underwhelmed. We started with the salt and pepper calamari which had a great balance of mala spice. It was delicious and set high expectations for the rest of the meal. We mainly came for the Peking duck which was honestly just ok, especially considering the price. I thought it'd come with more meat, most of the duck was skin which also seemed to be sweeter? than usual. We also got the century egg Napa cabbage which seemed very overpriced and under flavored. Our waitress mentioned it was a new item, so it may be refined in the future. Giving 4 stars for the experience. Missed our waitress' name, but she was great and made the experience even better. Chinese and luxury restaurant don't often go together in US historically. I was pleasantly surprised and delighted at the experience. The menu seemed pricey but the ambiance and food quality more than deserves. It is nice tranquil environment. The service is quick and respectful and they are not shy in guiding. I had eggplant dish, which I have had at multiple chinese restaurants before, but haven't seen this style of creation. It looked and tasted awesome. I wish they had more vegeterian items on the menu especially for the dinner and that has held us back from visiting. They had nice chinese jazz music playing. I enjoyed the experience and will definitely visit again. I asked the server for vegeterian options during dinner, he said they are willing to accomodate e.g. fish with tofu. My husband has been wanting to try G.58 so I took him for his birthday dinner. We went for an early dinner and there were several family with children as well as couples like us. There were so many things we wanted to try and our server ended up helping us narrow down our list. We got the lobster fried wontons, salt and pepper calamari, glass noodles clay pot, kung pao Chilean sea bass, and screw pepper pork belly. My favorite dish was the glass noodle clay pot. The service at G.58 was exceptional even during lunch service. Particularly appreciated our server, Gabrielle, as she provided recommendations, was attentive, and friendly. Out of all the dishes the seasonal glass noodle dish was the best with the most flavor and aroma. The black pepper beef was not traditional in flavor but was good in quality. The fish dish was a little salty. The duck spring rolls were solid. The duck soup was special off the menu order but the portion was not worth the price. Overall it was a great experience and I loved going during the lunch service to experience the natural light and color of the restaurant. My family ventured over to Cary this past weekend to try G.58. The decor inside is upscale and modern, but fun, from wooden structural light fixtures to little army men climbing up a wooden wall at the entrance. We were worried it would be a bit too upscale to bring our 1 year old daughter, and they didn't notify us they don't have high chairs, but this allowed us to come prepared. The staff was incredibly accommodating and our daughter had a wonderful time. We started off with the lobster fried wontons and duck spring rolls. The lobster wontons surprised me - I expected a mousse inside, but was pleasantly surprised when I bit into a juicy lobster tail. The spring rolls were pretty classic but with a peppery punch, perfectly crunchy and delicious. For entrees, we split the glass noodle clay pot and lantern pepper short ribs. The short ribs were cooked incredibly well, however there was a really strong clove flavor that slightly overtook the dish. The glass noodle clay pot was a big hit, especially with my daughter. The noodles had that classic soy and sesame flavor, and all the seafood was seasoned and cooked nicely. What a great spot for modern Chinese cuisine! Randomly came across this place while looking for food near our hotel. This was the upscale, delicious choice that we didn't know we needed! Food came out so fast, maybe in like 10 mins?! I ordered the Szechuan pan seared steak and was amazed by the flavor profile. They used green peppercorn that added the perfect amount of tingling spice. TL;DR - 5 stars for creativity, service and overall experience. Took off 1 star for mediocre yet overpriced Peking Duck. I haven't been in a few years but I remembered that you have to pre-order the peking duck so I called ahead. They no longer allow you to order a half duck, so I had to commit to a $95 whole duck which kind of limits how much else you can order when there are only 2 people. As mentioned above, the peking duck was mediocre - dry and lacking that yummy duck fat taste, although the skin was perfectly crispy. The short rib soup dumplings were very good, as were the seafood glass noodles. The lobster fried wontons were exactly as described - poached lobster tail bites inside a deep fried wonton - so I can't take off points for them even though they really needed more ingredients to make them the elevated dish they advertise it as. Overall G.58 is a great experience, especially if you like white tablecloth dining and you like chinese food. But save your money on the duck and try some other entrees and you'll feel better about the $$$$$ price tag. read more

My parents took me out for lunch here for my birthday since my favorite dish is Peking duck. They don't allow you to order 1/2 duck so you have to get a full one, and it's quite pricey ($95). Normally at a restaurant a full duck will yield a couple plates of meat but here you get just a small plate, not sure where the rest of the meat goes. Taste wise, the duck was good, but maybe a bit overcooked because it was kind of dry. Ambiance of the restaurant is very nice and upscale, seems popular for business meetings. I absolutely loved G.58! This is a wonderful upscale restaurant. While it is on the pricier side, I would say that it's truly the perfect treat yourself place for a meal. I came here for a celebratory meal after my engagement. The interior is modern, clean and truly beautiful. There's really not a great comparable restaurant here in the triangle. The menu is heightened Chinese dishes with an emphasis on fine dining. While they are best known for their Peking Duck, I truly enjoyed their fish dishes. The Szechuan style fish was so tender and flavorful. Similarly, we were also impressed by the portion sizing and the artful plating of our dishes. Lastly, I really enjoyed the hot tea that I ordered to drink with my meal. I have no complaints other than I'm not able to come here more often. read more

Went for my daughter sweet 16 dinner and it was absolutely amazing and beautiful. They accommodated a party of 13 and the waitress was amazing. We didn't wait long for our food or drinks and everything was perfect. Frank's good and strong and food absolutely delicious. Highly recommend the dancing lamb! Food: we had Peking duck (whole), home made fried, steam soup dumpling, soup and fried buns for 3 people and it was plenty. Peking duck was amazing, juicy meat and crunchy skin with exceptional sides. Dumpling was great too, full flavor. Soup dumpling wasn't so soupy. The chicken broth with the ball - little bland (salt) but it was a great clean flavored broth. Fried bun wa good but honestly, I've had better. I've had two really wonderful dinners at G58. The ambiance here is definitely upscale, so I would dress up accordingly. The service has been spot on, super friendly, and helpful. On my most recent visit I went with a larger group so we were able to try a great variety. First off the Peking duck is delicious. You have to call them or note you your reservation that you would like the duck. The skin was so crispy and I loved the fresh pancakes and elevated sauces. Dipping the crispy skin in sugar was not something I've tried before. Our server helped us navigate the menu a bit. We ended up getting their filet and two types of fishes to share to share for entrees. The fish that they boil in hot oil was amazing. It didn't have a super enticing description on the menu, but our server let us know that it wasn't crazy spicy and was perfect for sharing. It held true to his promises! The filet also melted in your mouth and the table loved the beef dumplings as appetizers. I also love that they bring out a little red velvet cake with a candle if you are there for a celebration. I came here to try the Peking duck and I found that many other dishes were also notable. We started with the egg rolls, but they are pretty standard. The Szechuan fried fish was kind of like a hot pot, but so much more tender. It was unreal. The pork belly was perfectly done, with a sweet and salty glaze. And the Peking duck was generous enough for four, along with 12 rice wraps and a variety of condiments. What stood out the most was how knowledgeable the wait staff was, being able to describe the preparation and other aspects of the dishes. It made the meal that much more enjoyable. I like it that they do change their menu every once in a while so you can always try something now. Again loved all dishes. Black pepper beef is our fav - beef is very tender and flavorful. Pork belly would be the immediate next - melts in your mouth and it's not greasy with the sweetness of dates and chestnut. My son lives the buns - he can eat that for his meal. But he also like the beef and pork. Kong pao is not bad but nothing to waw about. I ordered food to go for lunch on a weekday, and it was a fairly seamless process. I called with my order, and it was ready within 15 minutes of my call, which I was impressed with. When I arrived to pick it up, I had to wait about 5 minutes before anyone came to greet me, but I guess they were busy or understaffed at the moment - it wasn't too long of a wait, though. Here is what I ordered, listed in order of what I liked most to what I liked least: -Szechuan Spice Chicken - This was roughly half-inch cubes of chicken with spicy chilis, onions, peppers, and scallions. It was definitely spicy, which I appreciated. The spice didn't overpower the overall flavor of the dish, though - so it was the right amount for me. The chicken was tender and fried, so I enjoyed the contrast in texture. This was my favorite dish of the ones I tried, mainly because of the spice level. -Shanghai Soup Buns - I got 4 steamed buns that were pan-seared on the bottom. Each bun was filled with pork, and the pork was moist and flavorful. I thought they did a good job with the quality and flavoring of the pork, and I just like buns in general, so they didn't mess this up. -Shacha Short Rib Hot Pot - This was short rib with a shacha sauce, along with red and green peppers, broccoli, and onions. Shacha sauce is a savory and sweet sauce made with oil, shallots, garlic, and usually some kind of dried seafood (fish or shrimp). I'm not 100% sure if they used any seafood in their sauce, but the shacha was still tasty and didn't overpower the dish. The sauce had more tomato base than I anticipated, which I guess added to the sweetness of the dish, but I kind of wish it was less tomato-y. The meat was still very tender in spite of being served in larger 2-inch strips. -Black Pepper Beef - This dish was skirt steak with black pepper sauce and bell peppers. Honestly, the flavors were fairly standard - just black pepper with beef. Nothing really stood out except that the beef quality was good - it was pretty tender and cut to the right thickness. -Peking Duck Soup - This was a creamy soup made from duck bones and included cabbage, small dried shrimp, tofu, ginger, and green onions. I wouldn't recommend it. I didn't appreciate the creaminess of the soup, and the meat was too chewy to eat. The soup had depth of flavor, and the duck came through in the soup well, but I just wasn't a fan of the consistency of the soup. -Duck Spring Rolls - These were spring rolls with duck, cabbage, mushroom, carrots, onions, and sweet chili sauce on side. I'm not sure why I decided to order this, but I wouldn't recommend it. There was nothing special about this spring roll in terms of flavor, texture, or ingredients, in my opinion. Overall, it was a good meal - I appreciated the different takes on dishes and the quality of the ingredients. The lunch menu seems more reasonable from a price standpoint compared to the dinner menu, even though I expect you get less food during lunch. I'm just not sure I would personally want to spend dinner prices. Lunch is doable, though. I was glad to have tried a variety of dishes, some of which I really enjoyed. My family's favorite restaurant in North Carolina. We come here anytime we are visiting. Pros - amazing food. We always get the Peking duck (have to call in advance), lions head soup, ribs, pork belly, and pan-seared dumplings. The pan seared dumplings is so juicy and delicious. The pork belly is rich and needs to be eaten with rice. The duck is their quintessential dish and they can use the bones to cook a nice soup for you as well. Cons - very pricey, but worth it.
