I don't know why I waited so long to try this place!! I've been twice now and everything has been amazing. My husband usually goes with a two meat plate with two sides. The portions are extremely generous for the price especially with tons of bbq places out here to compete. I went with the bbq potato and it was again generous and delicious. Not really sure what people see in this place. We went for the first time and were completely under-whelmed. The quality of the food is really sub-par and everything was served at room temp or colder. We also watched the owner lady berate employees right in front of us...not cool. The ambience is...well, let's just say if you're into eating surrounded by dead animals, and lots of pictures of dead animals, then I guess this place is for you. I LOVE this BBQ over all BBQ places I been since moving here. I think they have the best top to bottom taste of the BBQ I have tried so far. Some of it is the atmosphere and the type of place it is, and you can go to the market and get some great sausage. Likes: Ribs, Brisket, Sausage, good smoke and flavor Dislikes: I would prefer they either get better bread or go traditional and do loaf of wonder bread or white bread. This place is really hit and miss. I have visited multiple times and have had some meals that are home-runs (excellent juicy brisket, great chicken, and awesome sides), other times the food comes across as cold, dry, and uninspired. A real roll of the dice... The staff is friendly and the restaurant is quite large. Ambience is interesting....myriad of stuffed wild game. They provide live country music from time to time on weekends, which is nice. read more

We moved out to Waller county several months ago and discovered midway. First bite, AMAZING. Since we've moved over here, we've ate here at least twice a month. As of recently though, every.single.order.wrong. Pay extra for a vaca do on a burger, no avocado. Pay extra for added sausage on a baked potato, no sausage. Order Mac and cheese with a kids meal, no Mac and cheese. We always order 2-3 meals so you would think, "hmm this many people, they need bbq sauce" NO BBQ SAUCE ANYWHERE. They always pack bbq sauce in the bag, not the last two times. May need to find another bbq place after several consecutive botched orders. read more

Very good BBQ in Katy. My wife and I both had a sliced beef sandwich which we both enjoyed.

I had ordered my food using there online portal for pickup. Walked in and let the Cashiers in the front know that I was waiting for my order they came back and said that the order was taking a little longer to prep but it was almost ready. Wait other 15 minutes and still nothing asked them to check again and they never got back to me. The manager was around making her rounds and ignored my the table I was waiting at so I finally called her over and asked what the eta what would be she quickly checked the table and found my order and handed to me. I had seen that bag setting at the table for over 20 minutes and was quick annoyed of why I would have to eat cold bbq after asking for my order several times she tired to pass off the blame to a worker that was running the orders but I quickly stopped her saying half the restaurant staff was aware of my order and no one took the time to look for my food. A generic apology was issued and the whole cooking staff thought it was a great idea to jeer me on the way out which is cool but I did not have anymore time to address that. The food tasted good a little cold but the bbq it's self tasted fine better than spring creek down the street. I got the family meal and it was enough for everyone. read more

The food here is pretty good. I just have to complain about how they do their orders with Uber Eats. I have ordered from this place twice from Uber Eats and both times they forgot to add a side of fried okra to a brisket plate. Also, the bag that the food came in was not closed. The fries were coming out the box and the bag was completely opened which it shouldn't, they should make sure the bag is closed. I won't be returning to this restaurant anymore. read more

I've eaten here a ton, they catered our wedding reception actually. They do really well with catering FYI, it's affordable, quality food. All you need to know about Midway is that the jerky is the BEST you will ever have - it's the only jerky I will eat. Absolutely fantastic and worth every penny. My only reason for not giving the place 5 stars is that it's a little high for BBQ in my opinion and I'm not huge on looking at taxidermy while I eat. We had dinner tonight and the service was lacking! Our food was cold by the time we sat down and it wasn't crowded. Then they started stacking chairs at 7:30 with customers in the restaurant and sitting next to the tables. We go here frequently ... it's even become something of a tradition in our family to go to Midway BBQ before Katy football games! We are gluten-free due to allergies and they were very accommodating, working closely with us to determine what items were safe and what items were not. It turns out that almost everything is gluten-free! Staff changes gloves and handles our items with care to prevent any cross-contamination. The staff is very friendly and it definitely has that small-town "charm" ... they get to know the regulars and, with us, change gloves as soon as they see us. The food is also excellent ... their loaded baked potatoes are overloaded with fixings and they are generous with meat portions on the plates. read more

I'm done giving BBQ places passes because I don't go at the optimal time. 2pm on a Saturday, don't stay open if you can't handle it. Especially since the pit was going the entire time I was there, and there was a steady stream of customers at the counter. Secondly, I came here solely because of the write-up by Robb Walsh of the HP. I'm not sure that we even went to the same place. If you read my BBQ reviews, you might see that I always get the same thing: 3 meat plate, usually 2 sides - three if I can get away with it. In order of importance I rank a joint on: 1. Brisket 2. Ribs 3. Sausage; Sides: 1. Beans 2. Potato Salad 3. Cole Slaw; Sauce is last. The location: this is my favorite kind of BBQ joint. Old meat market, no frills, pit easily visible. The ceiling is cloaked in burlap sacks, the walls are bare wood, and there are a 1/2 dozen little tables situated in an "L" around the serving area. By the front door is the smokehouse w/ a huge barrel style pit that runs solely on pecan. Next door is a small grocery store w/ a healthy butcher department that makes their own sausages. There's also a deer processing component out back. The brisket was solely from the fatty or deckle end and was crazy tender. I mean: fall apart tender. It had a nice, sweet, dark bark, but little smoke ring. It had a hint of smoke flavor and was tasty. The problem is that this is overcooked brisket. Yes there is such a thing. It tastes good, but it's pot roast consistency. The ribs were dry and chewy. Not over cooked, but had clearly been in the counter side warming ovens for far too long. They had a pretty tan exterior and an almost milky white meat. Once again, a very faint smoke ring and gentle smoke flavor. Robb's comments that these tasting like candy had no relevance to my experience. Me thinks age may be overtaking his taste buds, where sweet starts to become the more dominant part of the palate. Many rubs have brown sugar as an ingredient. The sausage was great. A mild beef/pork mixture, the meat was well seasoned w/ a crisp casing. Here's another part that I totally disagree w/ Robb on. These don't resemble the coarsely ground Hill Country links in anyway. They don't even make a link that resembles that type. Nor is it black and sooty from the pecan. They do cut it on a bias though. Anyway -yum on the sausage. And the best part is you can buy it next door raw to cook later. The sides: sweet baked beans. Hate this kind of beans. Potato salad wasn't bad. Classic chunky potato salad w/ mayo, mustard, and relish. Better that most commercial and grocery store brands. The sauce: hauntingly familiar. Served warm on the side, it's a thick red style w/ a nice, bitter twang to it. I had to ask if they made their own because you don't find this kind around here often. 'Kinda" was the answer that I laughed out loud to. We use the exact same sauce as it turns out. Cattleman's. They doctor theirs up a little bit, primarily w/ jalapeno. Cattleman's used to be available solely to the restaurant industry, since it's become available to the buying public it's become my sauce of choice. I too doctor it a bit, but that's my secret. What kills me though is that Robb called this "toothache-sweet." Huh? I like the vinegar sauces too, but not the exclusion of all others. Go buy some and mix it w/ pickled jalapenos. Doubt that "toothache-sweet" will be your thought. I know in my heart of hearts that this place is capable of some great 'cue. It was not great on this visit. I promise another visit soon. read more

I just stumbled into this place while moving my son down to Katy, TX. I had no idea what kinda place i was walking in to. What a treat! I ALWAYS ASK what's good, or the signature dish...well, the guy behind the counter surprised me in this BBQ place to say, the fish..or catfish. I made up my own platter by adding some very tasty chunks of brisket, bread, and a generous side of beans, onions & pickles. Really good catfish and brisket as well. BBQ sauce was good but I like mine just a bit sweeter. Only suggestion I would make here would be to add a second option with a sweeter, smokey sauce. Meat was smoked just right and delicious. Catfish was white, fresh, and crisp. YUM! The atmosphere of the new location, for the hunter of fisherman, is HEAVEN! Unbelievable amount of taxidermist wildlife...probably at least 10 elk, several bear, deer, full body mounted arctic wolf, grizzly, walrus teeth, huge fish of all kinds, and a replica of a huge wooly mammoth! Come on! Where else can you get great BBQ & catfish and eat it under the trunk of a wooly mammoth! All the workers were very friendly and humorous. Definitely, 5 STARS! read more

The people taking our order barely spoke English and weren't friendly at all (acted annoyed). And the live band had dogs howling 3 blocks away. We won't be back. We came to Midway Bar-B-Que for Sunday lunch for the first time. The inside is nice and spacious with hunting trophies adorning the interior walls. I ordered the pork sandwich with fried okra and green beans. My wife got a sliced beef sandwich with potato salad and mac and cheese. The pork was very good with a nice smoky flavor. No sauce was necessary. The sides were all tasty and accompanied the sandwich nicely. Will definitely be coming back! read more

I went with a group at 11:15, expecting great things. People all over Katy told me how good this place is. The lady who rang me up was very sweet and personable. She was the reason for the second star. I ordered the sliced beef sandwich with sweet potato fries and mac n' cheese. The macaroni was the best part of the meal. It was flavorful and tender. The sweet potato fries didn't seem hand cut, but looked and felt like they were frozen from a bag. Now to the draw: the BBQ. It was dry and bland. At 11:15, you wouldn't expect the meat to be overcooked, but sure enough, there it was. It kind of tasted like those pre cooked briskest you can find at Walmart. I added sauce and that seemed to help some. The sauce was more watery than I'd like, but that's purely a personal preference. read more

Excellent barbecue from a down-home, mom-and-pop establishment. I thought their style of making ribs left them a little too dry and chewy, but every other meat I've gotten here is excellent. I wish the bread they gave you wasn't just plain white Wonderbread, but you can't have everything. The ambiance is exactly what you'd expect from an authentic barbecue place. Don't go unless you're comfortable with having the lifeless, accusing eyes of a hundred taxidermy animals watching you as you dine on their kin. Also, the TV is always turned to Fox News, which adds to the authenticity of the place, but beware that Bill O'Reilly is always on at dinner time. All of this is to say the place has definite character, which I appreciate. There's not an artificial bone in its body, or on your plate. read more

We had such a great experience here. My mom came in town from Pennsylvania and she wanted some barbecue. I looked up on Yelp and found midway and can honestly say this place is amazing. The customer service was wonderful too! I had the 2 meat plate and so did my fiancé and my mom had the chopped beef sandwich. All were wonderful. Stopped here from san antonio to galveston. Quick good service, great staff, very helpful. Told staff is never been here, they were sure to provide a sample of the beef they're 'known for' (amazing taste). Food was amazing, ambiance of massive animal heads on the wall kept my two young boys interested while they ate. Prices matched quality of food. Well worth the stop. read more
