Perhaps, it is because I am not from Katy but I am just not a huge Midway fan. As far as BBQ in the Katy area, I'm just as likely to eat as Spring Creek as I am Midway. The best item I have ever had there is the chopped beef baked potato. I had my first one a few days ago and it made me regret all my previous Midway orders. I've had the sliced beef, chopped beef, chicken, and turkey. All were decent. The sauce is not my favorite. I prefer a sweet, thick sauce which I know is not the flavor in this part of the US. This sauce has that vinegary tang and watery consistency that you see so much in this area. As I said, most Katy natives will direct you to Midway for lunch but I wouldn't seek this place out. If its convenient, you could do a lot worse than Midway, especially in old Katy. read more

Food was good. We had brisket, sausage, potato salad, pinto beans. Ordered fries an okra with one meal an they never brought it out. Other tables got theirs an looked same as most we were so full we decided not to bother asking what happened to ours. Potato salad is out of a bucket an pintos were bland. The sauce is good an plenty on the table so you can kick up your own beans. The brisket melted in your mouth an the reason they get five stars. Love good brisket. We will visit again. I love Midway! It rivals some of the "best BBQ" places around central Texas, for sure. I always get the chopped beef BBQ baked potato. You get a huge helping of BBQ and usually a pretty large potato. I have tried the brisket on the potato, but it wasn't as good. Maybe I'm just used to how sloppy the chopped beef is, but it's delicious. Service is pretty good. On a busy night, it'll take about 15 minutes from start to finish. I have been when they've run out of potatoes on a busy Saturday night towards closing...I don't know if it was a fluke or what, but kind of annoying when they run out of a main menu item. There are usually tons of kids around, and on weekends they have live music, so it can get pretty loud. Great family place, good for lunch especially. They close at 8, which is weirdly early I feel, but it is in Old Katy, so I guess that's the norm for the area. Went last Friday while visiting houses in Katy, and found their brisket to be very good. You can smell the wood smoking the meat about 1/2 mile from the restaurant and was not disappointed about the brisket. The pork was tasty, but nothing like Carolina BBQ. Don't get these people bitching about potatoes; focus on the main meal not cheap side dishes people. read more

I would give it a 1/2 of a star if possible. A simple sliced brisket sandwich with rice. The meat was horribly over-smoked and tasted bad. I finished half and that was all it took. Up all night and sick the next day. It was my first experience and most likely my last. Rudys BBQ will be my only destination for BBQ this holiday weekend. read more

If I have the option of giving no stars I would but I can't, so they get 1 star. Ummmm I have no idea what is up with this place. We were told by many people you have to eat a Midway BBQ so we checked it out. We were confused where to walk in because the store/meat market is attached. We finally found the correct place inside and was kind of thrown off. It looks like a shack inside and out. We looked at the menu and it was very limited. My husband had to use the restroom and within 10 sec he come back and said we are leaving. He said the bathroom is horrible and the smells coming from this place made him almost get sick. Kind of a neat place, and I have been here several times. I don't get all the rave reviews, but it is decent. There is kind of a lodge feel here. The service is simple, give them your order and you get food. Which is fine. On several visits I have had ribs, brisket, sausage, baked beans, and mac n cheese. We ate here when they first moved and weren't impressed. However, we just left after needing a quick lunch, and we left happy and full. My chief complaint before was the sides. Today they had a great selection of sides and the two we had were really good! The green beans were tasty with little bits of potato. The pintos were super flavorful. I had the half chicken and it was tender and juicy. So, I've completely changed my mind and grant them the coveted 5 star! Way to go Midway! P.S. The place is OK, nothing special. The pecan smoked meats are VERY smoky, almost too smoky. The sides need a lot of work, nothing really spectacular. The big issue is their bar b q sauce is more sour, I prefer a sweeter sauce. It is not terrible, but not great either - nothing you would crave to go back to. read more

This place is locally famous for BBQ and with good reason. Also try the stuffed baked potatoes...I always get the one with brisket and love love love it. It is not generally speaking "inexpensive," but not crazy. One thing, my kids think all the taxidermied animals are a hoot, but if you're not into that, this place will wig you out. Wonderful BBQ! We were so excited to find an authentic and delicious BBQ place in town. This place is a great local place that has the great small town feel that I love. There are lots of hunting trophies and animals around, which are really neat to look at. You can tell the owners, friends and family are avid hunters. Decent BBQ. The sides are pretty good too. They have trophy heads hanging all over the place, from all over the place, so if you like food to watch you eat, while you eat it, it's awesome. The bad thing about this place is the people that work there. I am convinced that they are either indentured servants or just hate the decisions that they have made in their lives. I've tried to be open minded to local BBQ joints as each has its own interpretation of how to make their product. This place however has been consistently lack luster. The brisket and ribs have always been just OK and the sides are nothing to rave about. If you're in the mood for quick bbq this may be a good place but if you're looking for fall of the bone meats you may want to look else where. read more

The food was ok - brisket was decent, but my husband didn't like the sausage, potato salad or beans. Not a fan of the sauce, but that tends to be different no matter where you go. My big problem was when I went to the bathroom. Oh it was clean, but an employee followed me in and promptly got on the phone with someone complaining about how unfair it was. That would have been understandable - every company has employee issues. But then another employee comes in and starts yelling profanities at the first one. Something about a chocolate cake that better be baked, frosted and cut before the first one left. The f word must be common because I don't think the first employee even cared. As the conversation continued, I realized the profanity was coming from a Manager. Wow! So finally I flushed and left my stall. Did the manager apologize? Nope! She said, "oh great, a customer was in here. You didn't hear any of that did you?" I didn't bother to answer. So, no I don't recommend eating here. Would give no stars if possible. I went to pick up a to go order and they forgot to include the 1lb of brisket that I ordered. When I called to let them know, they said they couldn't refund my money, they could only credit me for next time. I told them I wouldn't be coming back. As for the rest of the food, the sausage is dry, turkey is dry, green beans out of a can and Mac n cheese is better at any other restaurant. Someone in our group was told this place was the BOMB.... It was more like a dud to me. Ordinary and not up to what I'm am used to. The ribs were so-so. Fatty Brisket was good but the lean brisket was too lean and dry. The sampler plate for $40 x 3 people was too pricey but i wasn't paying so I cannot be too critical. I won't pay for that. read more

Very disappointed, never given such a low rating. We have sponsored multiple bbq cookoff teams over the past 20 years or so and grew up on Texas bbq. Absolutely the worst bbq either my husband or I can ever remember having. I had the loaded baked potato with chopped beef. Potato was good size, not giant, not small, but the chopped beef was absolutely disgusting - it is certainly NOT chopped beef, the texture is slop - I think I know where all their fat and gristle trimmings go and the flavor was just off. My husband had the two meat plate - chicken thigh and sausage. The chicken was dry (hard to do with dark meat chicken). Sausage was ok - just not much flavor other than pepper. Sides were cole slaw (okay) and dirty rice was very poorly seasoned and lumpy. This meal did not sit well either. read more

Went there on a Saturday night with my wife. We were a little early (5:30) but was suspicious when there were no other customers. Should have turned around. The place was kind of creepy. Lots of taxidermy and the toughest brisket I have ever encountered. Bland sauce and served on the thinest styrofoam plates and plastic utensils. We won't be back. read more

Midway was much better when they were by the store. In the new restaurant and the food went down hill. They are now using gas fired smokers. These are to make where less wood is used and the meat does not dry out, however for some reason the meet at midway has an after taste. Many restaurant use the smoke pits and have no problems so it is not the equipment. Being raised in Katy it is hard for me to down someone that been there most of my life, however I have had a lot better and will go back every so often in hope that they will get things right read more
