I recently stopped at the MIF Deli for a late lunch. I had cabbage rolls and stuffed grape leaves. To be honest this was the worst meal I've had anywhere in a long time. Both were dried out and almost tasteless. They don't come close to the wonderful cabbage rolls served on Thursdays at LaGalette on west Douglas. I will not eat at MIF Deli anytime soon as there are much better places to order those same items and other middle Eastern dishes. read more

I ordered a Meat & cheese pot pie. They say that is what I received. They said the cheese is in with the hambuger & that's why I couldn't see it. I could not taste it though. Seemed like there were no spices. It tasted like crumbled hamburger with nothing else. It tasted nothing like the original MIF Pot Pie -- I was told it was the original pot pie. I'm torn about coming back. There are days my taste buds are off or not working. It might of tasted like the original. They.migjt of messes up sicing (subtle). Awesome little locally owned restaurant in a strip mall off Central & Edgemoore close to the mcdees. Wonderful staff with great service every time. I can tell from my many visits that the owner/chef is super friendly and remembers the regulars! All of their food is great. My favorite is the lamb gyro and Greek salad! I CRAVE that delicious Greek salad often!!! I like to try the specials because it's always unique and awesome. I always just ask and the servers are happy to tell you what it is, what it's like etc. (It's always marked on the board by the kitchen/cash register). There are lots of really awesome desserts. Really awesome, home made, and quality food! They have some classics like meat or potato pie and bierocks. Anyone can find something on the menu, and it's always great. Been eating here for like 40 years, through a couple of different owners, but MIF continues to make some great Mediterranean food at reasonable prices. The greek pita, tabouli, fatouch salad, tomato soup and hummus are all favorites of mine. Always freshly prepared and delicious. MIF Deli has taunted me for months, if only because by removing that "MIF" is so easy to remove an "I", or add an "L", and entirely change the meaning of that deli. Wordplay aside, it turns out they serve pretty good food, too, so it's a win-win for me. Like other places in the city, it's not really a deli so much as it is a Mediterranean restaurant, but the MIF is a bit unique in that it tends to focus on the pastry aspects of the cuisine, so things like grape leaves, baklava, and pies are prevalent (don't worry - they have your hummus and Fattoush salads, too). The pies seem to be the most interesting thing, and what I tried during my lunch. It was a potato pie that was on special - a regular menu item that contained an impossible amount of thinly-sliced potatoes, leeks, and sour cream inside a filo-like dough that was very moist and a deep golden brown in color. It was a very homey dish, and it confirmed my suspicions that everything is better in pie form. To accompany my potato pie, I got a cup of a soup special - the four pepper chicken soup, named as such because it contained a trio of bell peppers, along with a healthy amount of peppercorns. Also, it contained chicken. The sweet pepper element was very evident amongst the creamy texture of the soup base, and the whole peppercorns provided a lot of spice when you found one. Dozens of times Ive driven by the large lettered M.I.F. sign on a section of a strip mall, oblivious to its contents. Ooooh, MIF Deli...hmm, so they serve sandwiches? Surprise! No. Turns out the nearly naughty acronym stands for Mediterranean & International Foods. While I was bewildered to be having Mediterranean this evening, the cashier was pleasant and kindly went through some recommendations and their specials. I settled on a lamb gyro and mixed bean soup with sausage, and a "homemade lemonade". The gyro, soup, & even the lemonade was fresh, well balanced, hearty but also light, all in all delicious. My single compliant but more like something to ponder, "Would this gyro taste even better with pieces/chunks of lamb as opposed to the meat being minced?" Maybe.. I have several favorites that I tend to stick with, tomato soup (of course), smoked turkey delight, and M.I.F. Fattoush salad! I'm excited to try the salmon sandwich as I have just become a fan of salmon. We are always greeted as though we are their friends and the service is fast! Review: M.I.F. Deli stopped by for a quick bite while running errands in East ICT. Started off with the gruff greeting upon arrival, having never visited this location before when I walked in there were several people already seated and some standing at the counter. Walked up to the counter to place an order and was told that if we wanted to order to pick a table.At that time a server came to our table and I ordered the kibbeh balls as an appetizer. The appetizer was delivered about five minutes later steaming hot. Hot food usually means fresh food right? Not at this restaurant hot means fresh out of the microwave and when I say microwave I mean microwaved to death! Kibbeh balls had so much bulgur wheat in them that you could not taste the beef at all.At this point I realized that the bierock that we had also ordered was in the microwave back behind the counter so my son went up to cancel our order because microwave food to me is not fresh. We were abruptly told by the woman behind the counter that that would not be possible because the food was almost done and we would have to pay for it anyway. Then our server came back to our table and said that we were going to have to pay for both items. I then asked do you not have some sort of customer satisfaction you serve unsatisfactory items and expect people to pay full price for them? He then went back behind the counter and consulted with another server and a woman who I can only assume was possibly the manager? After overhearing them say that we were just "weird" he came back and said that he would compromise with me and only have to pay for the kibbeh balls. In my opinion the food here is beyond subpar and the service and the waythey treat customers is completely unacceptable. I would not recommend going to this place unless you like the above-mentioned food and treatment. read more

Their pizza and baba ganoush are excellent and reasonably priced. The shawarmas are pretty basic and nothing to write home about. The only thing unforgivable on their menu is the chicken pot pie. It's an extremely small portion of bland, under seasoned, soupy chicken with a soggy pastry for a ridiculous price. I've ate there periodically over the years because of their excellent fattoush salad and hummus. It's a pretty small place so it can get crowded but the size just adds to it's charm. It is definitely worth a visit if you are into supporting local businesses and great owners. read more

Wow! It's one of my favorite lunch spots. MIF has a wide variety of Mediterranean dishes ranging from gyros to hummus to grape leaves to shawarma. My personal favorite is the hummus shawarma with chicken. It is a good-size portion with expertly-flavored, diced chicken breast served with pita bread. The servers are all so adorable...well-dressed and very polite. The owner, who I believe operates the kitchen by himself, does an excellent job. I recommend MIF to everyone. Not many places offer such an affordable range of drinks, appetizers, lunch and dinner items and desserts. Bravo. read more

MIF has been gathering loyal fans for years in Wichita. I dunno what the fuss is from one of the previous reviewers about it not being a NY style deli. Geesh, get over it. It's Mediterranean and it's wonderful! MIF's owner, Ali, gets in early EVERY morning and makes most everything from scratch each day. The meat pies are flavorful and savory, the tomato soup is easily the best in town, the curry wraps are one of a kind and not at all like most curry. I think the secret may be lemon. I'm not sure but on their own they'll make you a loyal customer. We are lucky in Wichita to have so many options for hummus in town with all the Lebanese and Mediterranean haunts, but MIF's hummus is a real standout, and if you want to kick it up a notch ask for the baba ganoush, which is like hummus but eggplant based. It's lighter, but still creamy, a little bit more exotic tasting with a slightly smoky flavor, and my personal favorite on the menu. MIF has been a monthly (at least) staple for my family for years now and we still discover new delights. Try their lemon cake or key lime pie as a finisher and you will not be disappointed. I spoke to one patron who drives in regularly from Eureka KS on Wednesdays to dine on Ali's chicken puff pastry, which is absolutely addictive. It's so light and creamy and delightful it almost floats off the plate into your mouth. MIF is a family affair. Ali, his wife LaDonna, and their sons all work there. Whether you have the time to get to know them or not, they will treat you like family. MIF is cozy, and its painted murals keep the place airy and bright. The moment you open the door for the first time the aromas will lift your spirits and very soon after, the food will win you over. Don't take my word for it. Tried the M.I.F. Deli out last week. I tried the Hummus Schwarma plate. It was exactly what the menu said, but I was still surprised to find that it was grilled, sliced chicken on a pool of hummus with a few tomatoes mixed in. It was excellent hummus! My boyfriend got the Smoked Turkey Delight, which he said was very good. He also got the Meat Pie, without cheese, and was underwhelmed by it. read more

First visit here w family member who has visited this deli numerous times. This is now my favorite Wichita lunch restaurant! I ordered the veggie shwarma (spelling?)--a platter of dreamy creamy hummus covered by crisp Persian cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, feta, toasted sliced almonds, and briny black olives, accompanied by a stack of thin flavorful pita bread. If you love N&J as much as me but need an occasional change, MIF deli is a safe bet. Slightly more expensive and more limited seating, this menu can take one into more European territory over what N&J offer. Located in a strip mall just south of Edgemoore park, you can find that easily misread sign between a dry cleaners and a fast food joint. Friendly staff and a rotating display of specials, my go to is the chicken pot pie with a fattoush salad. Not crispy but a gentle flakey crust, there's no going wrong if your a pot pie lover like myself. The fattoush is served with black olives. Not a fan of olives, it's worth picking through to enjoy the remainder of the salad. read more

I have been going to MIF Deli for many years.. 25 years ago my mom used to take my brother and I there for their meat pies. In all that time the place hasn't moved one inch from their quiet corner in a small strip mall. I remember the food fondly, especially the baklava. Unfortunately it is a shadow of its former self. I try it a few times a year hoping for a miracle and I have yet to get one. The food is blander than I remember and the hummus seems to come from a can. I don't want to get down on them too bad, because I just can't admit they have changed.. For a meat pie and some hummus (or tabbouleh) expect to pay around 8 bucks. I think it is definitely overpriced now as well. It is definitely worth checking out if nothing else to have a good comparison.
