Get your AC from these guys. Trust me. I've had experience with other heating and air places and I've NEVER had customer service like at Canoga Park. They installed a new central air unit in my condo. It's a good unit, but it's had this little nagging problem ever since it was installed -- nothing BAD, just sort of annoying (the "AquaGuard" kept getting triggered/setting off the unit rather frequently when it was really hot). I was really upset about it -- we paid a lot of money for that AC unit and yet it shut off every couple of hours??... But whenever I would call the repair guys, they couldn't find anything "wrong" with the AC, so it was a really tough problem to solve. Let me tell you, the guys over at Canoga Park stuck in with me and kept coming back to my condo -- time and again, all without charge -- until they got the problem solved 100%. They listened me (even though they could not see any real problem with the unit whenever they showed up), trusted me that there was a genuine issue, and eventually did enough research to solve the problem (it needed a P-Trap installed). Now, my unit runs perfectly... I was so grateful to have a company who listened to my problem, took me seriously, and solved that problem without charging me for all those extra repair visits. This is a company that has been servicing my home for 20+ years. They have not only installed the first 2 ac units for my home, but we're the ones to replace to new ones when it was time. They have done regular service the entire time. This past week, they have had a complete meltdown with communication. I have been trying to schedule a repair and they have been pushing me away for the past 3 days. They will no longer answer their phone when I call. I am simply trying to schedule an appointment. The owner came to my house in January, 2013, and sold me the furnace he said was best for me. For 6 years I have had problems. The technicians have been wonderful, but were not able to solve help. I finally got a second opinion and the technician told the trouble is that the furnace is too big for my house. He said I should contact Canoga Park Heating and AC and have them replace the unit. I have been using Canoga Park Heating & Air for over 12 years to service my system when I bought my condo, so naturally when my AC died after 30 years I got a quote from them and Costco. The Costco price was thousands higher even with all the perks they offer. The installation was fast and on time. We had a really bad experience. Our air conditioning was working fine but we were due for service so we called this company. They came out to do the service and everything seemed fine. A week later our air conditioning went out. They came back and told us we needed a dual capacitor after we just had maintenance. The guy who serviced my air conditions was so rude - had an attitude and could not be bothered at all! Last time I use this company.

There's a reason CPHA gets either a 5 or a 1 rating. In my case, they committed fraud, in its' legal definition, (Fraud is a broad term that refers to a variety of offenses involving dishonesty or "fraudulent acts". In essence, fraud is the intentional deception of a person or entity by another made for monetary or personal gain) specifically Doug Ogilvie committed fraud, and the whole company, except the first repairman who told me I needed a new logic board for my furnace, colluded, and continued to lie as you can read below if you want details. Along with committing fraud they violated the trust of both my friend, who swore by them, and mine, as well, placing a stress on me that is both financial and personal. I was very busy at the time, and violated my own rule about getting estimates because I was cold, and just wanted my heater fixed. Using a company trusted by my friend of over 30 years, seemed reasonable. The last time the truth came out of anyone's mouth at CPHA was Nov.11, 2015, the day the repairman said I needed a new logic board for older, but top of the line Amana system, and the office would call me. I made the mistake of telling them that my friend so highly recommended them that I would use them to do my repair; not get other estimates. Instead of being honored by this, they went right into high gear to deceive me because that trust made me vulnerable. Bottom line: CPHA, via Doug Ogilivie, removed a system that needed a $200 part, I later found out, from my home with a 96%+ efficient heater and 14+ AFUE air conditioner (the highest available at the time, the top of the line Amana, the number one rated by Consumer Reports magazine), replaced it with a system, at first that wasn't even Energy Star rated, and an air coil I didn't need that Doug represented would change my system from Freon to Puron, which wasn't true. By doing so, this negated the efficiency rating of my air condenser. CPHA replaced this with another system that was supposed to be the Carrier equivalent of what I had...except it is far inferior--my Gas Co. bill doubled in one month from $90 to over $188. I have discovered that Carrier is a brand to avoid, and HVAC companies love, since they refuse to provide direct customer service, or answer questions about their equipment on the phone, referring you to a local HVAC provider instead). At the same time he was "making it up to me," Bob Wiseman, owner of this "family-owned local company" tried to sell me a new condenser, thus completely replacing my whole system. With the new furnace, I am either so cold, I shiver, or so hot, I have to open windows. The finer details: Doug Ogilvie, took advantage of my trust in this company via a recommendation from a friend, came over to my house less than 12 hours after the repairman left, pretending to be a representative "discussing my repair," rather than a salesperson. Since Denise at the office never called me with a price, likely on purpose, I assumed Doug was providing the excellent customer service my friend spoke of. Doug told me the repair was so expensive ($1,000 difference between that and a new heater), that I should get a new heater with a new warranty. I'm not surprised other people found him helpful. They either hadn't done their research, or just didn't know they were getting screwed (I read the five star review of another person who had an older heater who Doug had talked into getting a new system. He's that good--smooth talker; no scruples) He misrepresented the price of the "best system for me;" misrepresenting it as Energy Star, while telling me that I should change my air coil --that way I would go from Freon to Puron (this is not the case. I found out later. This material is in the condenser itself). He said $4400. The final bill was over $5000. He said the first price didn't include the thermostat or the air coil. The truth is that the only thing I really needed was a thermostat and a logic board for the furnace I had. Priced through another company after the fact, a $200 part plus labor. I was also told my heater would have lasted 25-30 years, or more, with the part. It was made when equipment was built to last, and Consumer Reports ratings had meaning. I had never had a service call, except regular maintenance from my recently retired HVAC professional. He had also created diverters/dampers in the ducting to cure uneven heat distribution, which have somehow disappeared with the new furnace, creating uneven heat flow with this new heater. Also,CPHA readjusted all the vents, reinforcing the uneven heating that has me opening windows in some rooms; wearing blankets in others, and just hating myself for being duped. My advice, again, is don't give them any business on principle! I have reported them to the licensing board. I am attempting to get the equipment removed, but they haven't returned my calls for over three weeks now. When I call, they place me on hold and don't pick up. read more

These people sold me a ridiculously expensive Carrier a/c unit with the promise that it wouldn't be noisy at all. The sales guy neglected to notice that our return was adjacent to the furnace, so the noise of the furnace running was even louder than our old unit. They did make attempts to mitigate the noise but none worked and I had to pay for the labor. The digital thermostat (that's no longer made) died and they replaced it within the warranty period. The second thermostat worked as poorly as the first and we paid hundreds of dollars for them to come out to look at it on multiple occasions without any solutions. Forward ten years and ongoing issues that meant we basically had to manually turn the thing on and off to be comfortable, and the blower breaks down. Then I come to know from 3 other contractors that the ducting in the attic was old, leaking air, and too small for the size unit they installed and was creating pressure build up, which is probably why the thing broke down. They never did anything with the ducting in the attic when they installed the new unit. Don't use these people. They only care about the bottom line and will tell you anything to sell you the most expensive unit possible. Their service charge is higher than most and you get nothing for it. Every time I think of how much money we threw away on useless service calls, I want to puke. Oh, and we wrote to Carrier and got referred back to the dealer - very poor customer service all the way around. We finally replaced the entire system using a super nice contractor, Mark Zivney, who listened to what we wanted and gave us that as well. read more

Long story short - They came in the winter and installed a air scrubber and the heater worked fine. When I first turned on the a/c this summer and it just blew warm air. I had another company diagnose the problem and it turned out because of the loose wiring. I had no problem with the a/c last summer so likely it's the technician from CPHAC who didn't do a thorough job to ensure both a/c and heater work fine after the installation. I tried to contact them by phone, via their website, and email with all the documentations over 2 months and received no response. They just simply ignore my complain. Both workmanship and Customer Service failed. Please do not risk your money on these guys. read more

They installed the nest system for both of my ac/heating units. They checked my a/c in February and it seemed to work for the five minutes that it was on. I used my a/ c for the first time in July and it was on for a few hours straight. It was never like that before. Before, It would turn off after about 10 minutes when it reached my desired temperature and then turn back on for 5 minutes when the temperature rose again. When I called on Saturday I was told back they would call me back on Monday to set up an appointment. To make a long story short after about 20 calls they were supposed to show up between 11 to 1 on Friday. On Friday when they didn't show up by 1:30 I called and I was told that I cancelled my appointment. What? I had been waiting all week in the 110 degree heat wave. Why would I cancel? So finally I was told that they are working in area and technician will come to me next. At 5:00 Jose, who had installed the nest system shows up and he says I have a duct problem and capacitor problem. I never had any problems before and I had been using my heater during the winter. Not only did Jose not want to take responsibility for all the wiring screw ups he had made he said he doesn't like my attitude because I didn't want to pay him to change the capacitor. I told him to just change back from the nest system he had installed. He stormed out of the house and somehow my thermostat is on off and my heater is on in in this heat. Of course the office is closed since he showed up at 5p.m and I am now stuck without any recourse. Do not use this company and don't let Jose near your house. I just got my new air condition unit installed. It's feels like the polar bear country in my palace! I'm soooo ready for this summer. Doug Ogilvie rocks! Canoga park heating & air prices are super affordable!! I was shocked with quotes around town from other companies, they were ridiculously over priced. So far ...so good with my unit. Doug super friendly-customer service phone gal could be better with her attitude. However the technicians who installed were respectful and courteous. So I still give them 4 stars. Would of been 5 stars but they need a friendlier and courteous replacement for customer service phone person. Otherwise I think they're still great!! read more

This is a pretty good company. I dealt with Bob Wiseman, who was quite helpful and explained the different options to me as we decided what sort of system to put in. I was having three systems replaced, so it was a fairly big job. I was a bit disappointed that they couldn't start the job when Bob originally told me they could; a few weeks before they were to start, neither he nor the installation supervisor could make the date we agreed upon. However, part of the job started at the stated time anyway, since it was relatively small and wouldn't need any significant supervision. The main job involved two systems and took four days to complete. It started late because the main installer was sick on Monday. The work was fairly involved and there were some issues with the duct work that concerned me, but Ross, the installation supervisor, discussed it with me at length. At the end of it, we made no changes to the ducting, but Ross and I agreed it was suboptimal because of other constraints that could not be changed. The workmen generally showed up on time, except for one day when they had training (and forgot to tell me that they would be late). I called Bob to find out why they were late but got no answer. The men generally left around 3:30 or so, although they stayed late on Friday, the last day, to get the system working; I was not about to do without air conditioning over the weekend (with a heat wave at the time), and they resolved the last issue at about 5:30. Kudos to them. Overall, the work seemed well done. I ended labeling the wiring (the previous installer didn't conform to the standard colors, so it was a bit confusing), something I thought the installer should have done, but that is the only complaint I have (and it's not really a complaint). They had to put new thermostats in, but the kind they used were not auto changeover, so I requested better thermostats. They sold me some for a reasonable price; new thermostats were not included in the contract and I feel they did right by me there. Overall, I would recommend this company. Canoga Park HAC just replaced the furnace and a/c in my house. I got estimates from 3 different companies and CP was right in the middle. They were actually providing a brand and models that were a step above what the higher priced company was offering but they weren't trying to sell me more than I needed. They came right on time, finished in one day, and were so neat and tidy that when they left you wouldn't even know they were there. I love that Doug is so responsive and even followed up with me after the install to make sure everything was okay. It's been more than 5 years now since they installed my two systems in our attic, each with high end variable speed blowers, etc. I have used them to check the units about once every one-two years and will now have them check them every year since they are older. No major issues. Once the AC was not responding to the thermostat, but they easily found and resolved a minor electrical issue. read more

I can't say enough great things about Dave. Dave is amazing !! He even arrived 30 minutes before the scheduled time, so I could get back to work sooner. The whole process was seamless. When I told Dave we had to move out and into a hotel because of the LADWP taking 12 hours to fix the power outage during the heat wave, Dave was on top of it making calls, and scheduling appointments to get us back home as quickly as possible. He took the time to assess our old unit explaining in detail what was going on, he went over the different types of thermostats, and how long it would take, etc. Dave even ordered the crane to hoist it onto my condo roof. I didn't have to do anything. Dave handled everything! He made it so easy for us. We had such peace as Dave has been in the business for many years. The unit was so new, and quiet that I thought it wasn't working, but a quick call to Dave and he was at my doorstep in less than 20 minutes to teach me the proper way to cool a home, and to instruct me on how to use my new WiFi thermostat. Even during this heatwave, he and his associate, Grace were COOL. They weren't stressed or exacerbated from the heat. They had such a calming effect on us. It was an outstanding experience ! I have used this company for years and trusted them. I was wrong to trust them. They installed an air conditioner In a condo unit we have and it never worked properly. Every year we called them with the same complaint and they said there was nothing wrong, it was the filter, etc. this went on for years. Because I had used them in my home and business and because they installed it, I trusted them. I thought my tenant was a complainer. After they moved out I saw for myself how it didn't cool. This time I called two different companies for an opinion. They both said there was no way it could work because the unit was too big for the space it was in. It would freeze up immediately. There was no way for it to vent. Instead of the 3 ton it had before, they put in a 4 ton that was not made for a condo. So for years they must have know this and let me pay for unnecessary repairs. Now I have to replace the units even though they work, because they are the wrong kind. This is going to cost me a great deal that I can't afford. I will never use them again for any of my places. Surely they knew what was wrong every time they came out and never owned up to it. read more

I am a great supporter of our local small businesses, but I was terribly disappointed with CPHAC's big business prices. We are all entitled to make a profit, but to mark up a part 900%, I find hard to swallow. When I called to question the $212 charge for a capacitor ($13.99 on Amazon) and labor, I was told that it included labor/time for 1.2hrs. But the serviceman was at my house for only 45 mins, not 1.2hrs. I was told the difference is "travel time". That was never disclosed upfront. I don't believe padding the labor charge with travel time is an honest practice. Would you be happy to pay for travel time from Orange County? Let the customer decide first please. So, the true cost of 45 mins labor at $125/hr is $94. Deduct that from the $212 charged, and the $13.99 part is being sold for $128. Yes, we pay for the convenience to have a professional do the job and provide a warranty, and for that I'm fully prepared to pay a fair price. But if you want the community to support you, then show them respect with greater transparency of your charges. Your customers will appreciate that disclosure, because after all, retaining loyal customers is a lot easier than trying to win unhappy ones back! read more
