Fatimot is the TRUTHHHHH, this was my first time getting my hair done by her and not only was she incredibly friendly and timely but she made an effort to make sure I was comfortable throughout getting my silk press. I could not believe how soft my hair was after she did a hot oil treatment, it was raining the day I got my hair done and my hair was able to last all night. I'd had it with salons where there were 1500 people waiting on some enormous assembly line to be seen by the stylist they were trying to get to in the first place like 3 hours later and then only get them for like 10 minutes. From the minute you walk in the door, Fatimot takes special care of you -SHE washes your hair, SHE deep conditions, SHE sets your hair, SHE styles. You get personal one on one treatment which actually makes the whole thing go faster. Gone are the days of going to the salon for 17 hours on a hot Saturday. I love best that she knows how to deal with NATURAL african american hair. A lot of salons claim to know what to do and end up just floofing around in there doing nothing. She can break down the anatomy of your hair down to the follicle and explain exactly what you need to be doing and give great recommendations for products and care regimens. I started coming to Salon-Otiti because of a Lifebooker loot I bought 3 years ago for a Chi Enviro American Smoothing Treatment and it was the best thing I ever did! I have been coming to her ever since for the same treatment at regular price. My hair has never been so long and healthy and I have never received so many compliments on it. For my wedding she was invaluable! She recommended a place in Washington Heights to get my extensions and walked me through the process, spoke with them on the phone for me, sewed the clips into the wefts, AND measured them to my head and cut the wefts to fit my head properly. She recommended products that my wedding stylist could use on the actual day so I didn't look greasy (my hair is very oily). If I could have flown her to Miami to have done my hair on my wedding day I would have! Fatimot herself makes the time spent at the salon extremely enjoyable. I've been to many salons in NYC trying to find one that works for me, including pricey ones to ones around the corner, but this has been the best one I've found. Fatimot was HONEST with me, and I cannot stress how important this was. She looked at the condition of my hair, told me what I should do for it, and followed up with concrete recommendations on how I should fix it. Every salon I've been to always ooh's and aah's that my hair is so long (which it is), but never helps me figure out how to keep it that way. The treatment itself was awesome and my hair looks great. It's black, pretty wavy, well past my shoulders, and frizzy like no other. After I washed it post treatment, it dried into soft waves, which is exactly what I wanted. I originally found Fatimot through Yelp after consistently failing to find a stylist in NY the was reliable and consistent with doing a good job with my natural hair. I have been getting it pressed for years after being natural my whole life but finding someone in the city that does my hair to my liking has been a struggle. I scheduled an appointment well in advance to get on her schedule since as other reviews say its a little difficult to get that after work/weekend slot. Fatimot confirmed with me the day before and notified me that she had moved (which was NBD) and everything was set. My appointment was at 5:30 and a few hours before she texted me to inform me she had a migraine and that she was going home and that I could come in on Saturday. I was leaving for a trip Saturday so that wouldn't work for me. Though irritated, once I stressed this Fatimot moved clients around I was able to come in Friday without issue. I really liked her and the way she did my hair, so although she cancelled last minute, I was impressed with her willingness to be flexible and fit me in and the job she did on my hair. I scheduled another appointment for three weeks later. Fast forward to Friday of my appointment (it had been confirmed the day before), and I receive a text saying that she, again, has a migraine and is not coming in but she would reschedule. Considering this is only my second appointment and the second time it has been cancelled, I'm now very annoyed because this is no longer a one time instance. I tell her okay and am waiting for times to reschedule but don't hear from her by Monday. So I follow up, no response. I follow up again Tuesday and she gives me times for the next week either in the middle of the weekday (which I can't make because I work 9-5) or the next Saturday, which would now be two weeks after my original appointment. I generally try to give people the benefit of the doubt and once I find someone I like I tend to stick with them. As much as I enjoyed Fatimot, I could not deal with the utter disregard to my schedule and because of that I am on the lookout for a new stylist. read more

When visiting my girls while they lived In the City, I followed both of of them to her salon after seeing how wonderful their hair looked whether for color, a weave or just maintenance. My first visit was more than 15 years ago and although my daughters have relocated, each one of us STILL makes the trip to NYC from upstate NY whenever we need or want a special, perfect do. To say the least, her service and experience was incredible! I've recommended her to all the females in my family! (Both my sister and mother have gone to her and loved her service!) I went to see her about 6 weeks ago to do the chi keratin treatment again. I only have positive things to say about her: I have very long and thick hair so she was very patient with the long process and gentle with my hair. I am too old to deal with the foolishnes found in "Beauty Shop" type salons If you want a knowledgeable, no-nonsense salon experience, this is the place to go. When you book your appointment, as you walk in, the previous client is leaving and Fatimot is ready to take you. As others have said before, Fatimot works alone and does everything for you from washing your hair to the final styling. I purchased the Chi Enviro American Smoothing Treatment at Salon Otiti via Lifebooker. The treatment is supposedly safer than the Brazilian keratin treatments and Salon Otiti is one of the few offering this newer treatment. The salon is no frills, a room within an office type building in midtown., a few salon chairs, etc. However, Fatimot was very personal and friendly, and the treatment is great. Fatimot provided me useful information about the treatment that I had not read previously in my research (such as that it will lighten your highlights or hair color by one shade) before I sat down for the treatment. I have medium textured long hair and a lot of it - the treatment took about 2.5 hours. I walked out with straight perfect hair. After washing my hair, 24 hours later, my hair dried with a looser wave than before and without frizz... in other words, AMAZING. I definitely plan to return to Salon Otiti and definitely will get this treatment again. I highly recommend giving Salon Otiti a visit. read more
