I think I'd visited once before many years ago, but had forgotten about this place, and was happy to rediscover it. The service was very good and notably friendly. The interior courtyard was pleasant. Most importantly, the sushi was excellent. Everyone in my party ordered the chef's choice nigiri platter, which also came with miso soup and salad. The miso soup was just right. The salad was pretty standard, but very good. And the nigiri was excellent; no piece disappointed, and most were outstanding. The real wasabi was a nice touch. We ate here last night after receiving plenty of recs from other cyclists (who aren't Asian). **Disclousure - I did not consult with the staff on my picks below, should you have a food allergy - do ask the staff and address any concerns. This place was good. I'm allergic to soy (sadness, I know) and so I picked out to rolls that didn't have any sauces or soy items and landed on the Hawiian roll - tuna, macademia nut, and avocado and a Nigiri Tobiko roll. Totes recommend the Hawiian roll. I believe my boyfried got the Tekka Don - the fish was good. The spicy wasabi sauce on top caught him off guard . All good. It has been a few years since we have ate at Mika Sushi. I had heard they were under new ownership, so I was hoping the good experiences we have had previously would still be the case today. Service: We were greeted upon entering Mika's breezeway and seated in their outdoor space. It's an open, high volume covered space that enhances your dining experience. This is an absolute plus that Mika gets to utilize this area for dining. Chloe was our server. She was friendly and checked on us throughout our meal. Sushi: we ordered the hamachi carpaccio and two rolls, spicy lover and the crunchy dragon roll. All 3 dishes were great, but the hamachi carpaccio was the standout. It was so good, we ordered a 2nd dish. This carpaccio dish is fairly common at sushi restaurants. Mika makes one of our favorite versions. I was reminded today of how lucky we are to have a very good sushi restaurant in Carmel Valley. Since we live here full time now, we are going to make Mika a regular occurrence. read more

I came in for dinner, ordered Combination Tempura Dinner, and a Rainbow Roll. The service was attentive and atmosphere was pretty good. Sadly, the tempura was doughy in the center of the broccoli, and it was nothing special. I pointed it out to the server and he said: "sorry". Also the server rested the water pitcher on the edge of the water glass, which is a vector for sickness and transmission. I won't go back there. read more

I came here on 4/17 and had such a great experience! I ordered the combo tempura, the Sweetheart Roll, and the Santana Roll. Everything was super delicious, but the Sweetheart Roll was definitely my favorite. The staff were all so incredibly sweet and attentive, which made the meal even better. Although I'm a local, I have to admit that this was my first time at this restaurant. I ordered a Hamachi Don and it really stood out as so fresh, with delicious herbs on the rice and on the Hamachi. My husband had a churashi don and had the same thoughts. I look forward to coming back again. The restaurant will go on our list of regular places to frequent. I'm a small eater. I ordered a Bento box from the kids menu because it was smaller than the regular box. No problem from the server. Owner canceled my order and said I had to order the larger more expensive box. I explained that I liked small portions, she argued with me, told me to order a small roll which I didn't want. One of the best sushi restaurants I've been to in a while. I've been more than a handful of times in the last few weeks while I was visiting and I can say that I will truly miss Mika while I'm gone. Owners are so sweet, always come up to the tables and talk to the guests. The servers are amazing too, amazing service and always so happy to be at work. Very knowledgeable of the menu and have amazing recommendations for Sake. The Chefs honestly deserve their own review, not once have I not completely enjoyed what I ordered. I can say that I've had the best piece of sashimi I've ever had (second picture). Restaurant is always clean and inviting, it's really nice having inside and outside seating areas. Inside lighting is very intimate and inviting, outside is bright and pretty with all of the plants and flowers. We ordered for pickup on their website and it wasn't ready at pickup due to part of our order being accidentally misplaced in someone else's bag. We didn't mind waiting and the servers insisted everything was correct only for us to arrive to our hotel to find the items were still missing. We immediately called the restaurant asking for a refund, and they were very unclear on if they would be able to issue one.
