Had okay time at this bar and pizza place in Yorkville with great drinks and okay food. It has some good things about it. Mike & Denise's is one of several restaurants the owners have around town it seems. For certain this location is the best known. The prices can be kind of high on some things, okay for others. A kind of haphazard setup once you get inside. It's got the entrance where you can choose two ways to go, whether it's eating inside or for pickup. The inside dining area is also kind of hard to get through. Has a patio. There's a good amount of seating. Most people seem to get beers. Pretty expected with these going great with pizzas. It's about $9 for one of their seasonal cocktails. We got a couple including the Lucky Charm. A classic. This is made with coconut, Malibu coconut rum, orange juice, and pineapple juice. It's about $12 to get a personal pizza with a few toppings of your choosing. We got the build your own option. A great option is giardiniera because it's like a few toppings in one to be honest. The pizza has a pretty crispy crust and is great for sharing. Crazy busy because it's one of the best known places in town to go. It's located on Veterans Parkway in the one plaza. They have half off pizzas on Tuesdays. read more

I'm back, more than a decade later, to update, and its great news! 5 stars, for sure. The pizza here is the best in town. The other food options they have are tasty as well (try the Philly quesadilla, seriously). LOTS of beer to choose from, and creative cocktails that match the season or holiday. My favorite thing about it though is the atmosphere - it's always a party, but family friendly. The owners are great, they hire lots of local students and support local sports and organizations, and when the Bears pulled off that win over the Packers in the wild card, they were out of town but bought a round for the whole bar! We all came as a group for lunch from a few different states for a celebration of life, we were recommended this restaurant from people who reside here. The ambiance, is solid, love all the big screens! All the games! Perfect! The service we received from Jess was below average. The customer service was not friendly or welcoming, we had to ask for refills on iced tea, soda and waters. We felt like a bother to her. She ended up bringing a pitcher of water to the table. I really don't understand why this place has such a low review. They have been around forever and continuously are busy on the weekends. they are known for their pizza, but I highly recommend getting something besides that off the menu. They have amazing sandwiches, great seafood, and delicious chicken options. There is something on this menu for everyone. Even with it being busy, the wait isn't usually long. The best thing about this place is their daily specials which seem to draw a lot of attention. every single night they have something unique has a cheaper option with value. Can't wait to revisit again, constantly am hearing word by mouth positive things about this place and it definitely was up to par. Our first experience was not bad. We ordered carry out. I got the Denise's signature pasta with a side house salad. The portion size of the pasta was huge. Took me 4 days to finish it. Our second try we decided to go in. The one thing I always dislike about a restaurant/bar combo is when the whole place smells like old beer. The service on the restaurant side was awful. There was 1 waitress and she spent most of her time talking to the guy sitting at the table behind us. I ordered the burger in a bowl. It was literally lettuce, tomatoes, the burger and cheese stuff in a very small bowl. No seasoning, no dressing or sauce and definitely no flavor. I asked her for sauce and she just looked at me like I wasn't speaking English. It should have came with a thousand islands dressing. She offered no assistance. I asked for ketchup and mayo tried to make my own sauce so I could choke it down. I was over it. She kept asking me if I needed a box...it wasn't edible enough to bother with. If you're trying to book a private room at Mike and Denise's.. DON'T. Horrible experience. Ordered 6 specific pizzas for the party and planned this several month's in advance with the restaurant. They brought us 5 pizzas and didn't give us the pizzas we ordered. Jill, the "manager" was unbelievably rude. Told us that we didn't have a choice when it came to pizzas for a private party. This wasn't the case when we booked months ago in advance and called a few weeks before the set date to confirm.. Jill clearly didn't care and had no intention to make things right. This place was absolutely horrible!! Service was SUPER slow. Took over 1/2 hour just for them to take our order. Half the waitresses dressed very sleezy! Floors were super sticky, like where your feet literally stuck to the floor sticky. Food was just as bad! Ordered their "Hangover Burger", egg came out well done as well as the burger itself.​ The burger tasted like the meat was spoiled. 3 burgers ordered medium and all came out well done. On Saturday, May 24th, 2025, we held my grandmother's funeral luncheon at Mike and Denise's. I regret to say that our experience was deeply disappointing and added unnecessary stress on what was already one of the most difficult days of our lives. From my mom's very first interaction with Denise during the booking process, she was met with a level of rudeness and dismissiveness that should have served as a warning. When she inquired whether the space could accommodate 55-60 guests if more people than expected arrived (while expressing her willingness to pay for any additional guests), she was met with a curt, "If you say 45, you're paying for 45." Only after she clarified her intent to pay for extra guests did Denise's demeanor shift, presumably because more guests meant more revenue. My mother also asked whether the deposit would be refundable should we decide not to move forward. Denise's response was a firm and unpleasant, "No, you DON'T get it back." We then requested a scheduled time to view the space in person, as she wanted to discuss everything with my grandfather before committing. Denise responded in an irritated tone, saying, "Well, we're busy, you can just come look yourself." Her attitude throughout the process was consistently unprofessional, dismissive, and frankly, disrespectful. Despite these red flags, we booked the space because we needed a venue and were assured it could accommodate our expected group. However, when we arrived at 5 PM, not even 45 seats were prepared. This led to a confrontation between our party and the manager, escalating into an argument, on the day of my grandmother's funeral. The food was not ready on time. The pasta was burnt, the pizza was excessively greasy, and the service was unacceptably slow. The space was completely inadequate. It could reasonably accommodate around 25 people, far less than promised, leaving guests scattered across outdoor seating and into the main dining area among unrelated diners. As a result of this disorganization, many members of our party were not seated in the reserved area and were not aware of the food that had already been paid for. Several of them ended up ordering and paying for their meals separately, completely defeating the purpose of organizing a pre-paid luncheon and further adding to the confusion and frustration. The only positive aspect of our experience was the wait staff, who remained kind and patient throughout, doing their best under the circumstances. We are grateful for their efforts. However, given the owner's unprofessional behavior, the failure to provide the agreed upon accommodations, the poor food quality, the disorganized execution, and the added financial burden placed on our guests, I cannot in good conscience recommend hosting any kind of gathering at Mike and Denise's. Our family deserved better, especially on such an emotionally significant day. read more

Okay, so we've had takeout pizza from here before and it was good. Not our favorite in the area, though. This was our first visit to the restaurant and it was fine. Our main high points are that the server was very nice and accommodating, food was tasty, and our experience wasn't rushed. Atmosphere was about what you expect for a pizza/bar type restaurant. Portions were very big (for us, at least)--we each left with roughly half our food in takeaway boxes, so two meals per order. Pretty good value. The chill service level could be a problem for some--if you're looking for prompt, attentive service or a somewhat quick turnaround, you might get frustrated. We were fine because we were up for a more relaxed pace and our server didn't seem to be, like, rude or purposefully ignoring us. I did feel like I had to go find her twice, though (and I truly can't remember the last time I've ever done that). Also, the kitchen did mess up our order involving a food sensitivity (not an allergy). The server made it right and seemed genuinely apologetic so it's all fine, but I would recommend being very clear if you have serious allergies or health considerations with your food. Ultimately, I wouldn't be opposed to returning but I don't know that it would make my top 10. read more

Service was ok but my family and I stopped in for the crab leg special. 2 of us got the normal 1 lbs but one of us got the unlimited. After my family member ate BOTH plates from the unlimited and we got the bill... $300?? We were charged an extra $45 (service fee of the whole bill not just the crab legs) for his plate when there was no reason for it? No sharing, no taking his leftovers home. And it was a member's birthday, we told the waitress 3 times and she acknowledged it all 3 times. But nothing was done? If you don't do anything for birthdays then speak up about it. It was an absolute blast for lunch for 2! We had a Italian beef and giardiniera pizza that Mike and Denise's absolutely knocked out out of the park! The food was really bad. And one of the employees was yelling at a customer, making everyone in the place feel uncomfortable. It was disappointing for an employee to behave like that in front of guests. Although, they seemed pretty young and clearly didn't know how to handle the situation calmly. Someone later mentioned he was the owner's son, which would explain a few things. He could definitely use some training on how to treat people with respect--and lose the privileged, entitled attitude. Otherwise, this restaurant may not have much of a future. read more

My wife and I made another stop at M&D's. They are a few doors from where my wife gets her nails done so we coordinate a sit down or pickup with her visits. I really have a problem reconciling a 3-star rating with our experience. We first got acquainted with the menu through my brother-in-law. (This was way back during Covid.) First off we do stop normally during off hours (2-4 PM) Haven't had any issues with seating or service as a result. My food choices vary but have yet to be disappointed. The same can be said for my wife. On days we do a pickup it is normally for pizza. My wife loves the Hawaiian pizza and I am a purest from the (really) old school. By the way, we live in Oswego so we not without pizza choices. So, excellent food, good service, and acceptable noise level, thus for us a 5-star rating. read more

I have been coming her on and off for 17 years. Food is okay, depending on the day, depending on the chef and the waitresses. Unfortunately there is no consistency which is one of the most important factors for repeat business. I prefer to not dine at a location that is a crap shoot every time. The two most recent times I have dined was in the evening when everything opened back up most recently! I do not blame the staff on timing at all there was some sort of fight on and they had unlimited crab or something like that! But the second time we came we were having lunch after an early movie, the dining room was mostly empty our server was disengaged, barely checked on us and constantly disappeared, and could care less that we were there. My daughter ordered the grilled cheese for kids. Anywhere you go restaurants use white bread and American cheese, kids are picky and the list of what they eat shrinks by the day. Why would you make a grilled cheese with sourdough bread? We ordered burgers they were plain and didn't have much flavor. Unfortunately. My daughters and their families took my wife and I out for my birthday and decided to try this location. We had been to the one in Aurora and liked it so thought it would be good. Ordered several of the $10 specials and waited and waited. The food finally arrived and the majority of it was cold, even the pizzas. There were two wraps a burger and 3 kid's meals. Waitress dropped the food and never checked back to make sure things were ok. Finally, she brought the bill and going over it found she had charged for an extra drink. After pointing that out to her she grudgingly corrected it, we paid and left. As we were walking out my one daughter heard her comment to the hostess that we were very rude correcting her drink count and through the meal. She should at least know as a server not to complain about her customers where they could hear her. Will not go back again primarily because the cold food, a safety item in my eyes! read more

A bit loud at times, however that is the sports bar vibe, so no surprise there and that is to be expected. Mike and Denise is a very simple pub. No big expectations or anything like that...just simple and a good place for good food and a relaxing dinner. Plus is a great local spot for those in or near Yorkville. I have been there a few times. Location is easy to find. It is a little small inside but they maximize the space with tables and seats without being too cramped. Parking is plentiful especially in the back. You enter the front door. If you pick the left door, you enter the open seating bar. However, should you pick right, you enter the restaurant part with a hostess to get you a table. I came here on a Saturday night for All-you-can-eat-crab legs. This location was pretty busy for a 530pm dinner, but I was lucky to get the last table without having to wait. The menu was pretty big with plenty of selections. Even the pickiest eaters should have no issues finding food. The food came out fairly quick and it was delicious. Even my refills of crab came fairly quickly Although my table had no silverware, we stopped someone quickly and they were quick to fix the issue. Otherwise, the staff is very nice and friendly. Even tho it was pretty much a packed out, all the servers were working hard. However, this location also has a very nice bar area with plenty of seats and TV for game night. Ive only been there for two games and it was kinda busy especially if there is party going on. However, no big issues with them. Location is clean and the food is good. It is nice to have a good local spot to support instead of a chain. Overall, I am a fan and will return in the near future. read more
